(this is Amy, tony's daughter posting) on 8SW there was an awful lack of communication between shifts and amongst caregivers.!! i posted signs about my mother's full on dementia and some very simple but VITAL measures that had to be taken with her. (like wrapping her ivs so she can't pick a t them, tucking the blanket under her arms so she can't get to her colostomy, prompting her to swallow pills or she will chipmunk them, SIMPLE things) nurse after nurse came on shift and said they heard she was a little forgetful, or they heard nothing at all. i posted more signs, they weren't read. there were shifts where nobody came in at all, not even an aid. i had to call a nurse to come check her oxygen level. it was 77. and she didn't assess her. i found myself stalking staff and reporting to charge nurses over and over... COMMUNICATE!!! WHEN THE FAMILY LEAVES A NOTE, READ IT! AND TELL THE NEXT SHIFT ABOUT IT!! UNACCEPTABLE!

Came in through the ER and ended up having surgery the following day. All the staff involved in my care (including the valet parking guy, registrar, nurses, xray tech, MRI tech) were all kind, efficient, and caring throughout!

Waiting for admit for MRI, we get put in a closet for paperwork, are you serious! Then in another closet to wait for lab, can't wait to go to radiology....way outdated mess! Maybe the should put up more walls so u can feel more confined. WOW! what a fricking mess!

Terrible service , my husbands bandage was bleeding through, and needed stitches which was quite clear, we also told them we thought it might be broken , which it was , yet they did not ask about pain , and he was in a lot of pain, we waited in lobby for almost an hour , you could see nurses standing around, we told them we would go to St. Luke’s, they didn’t care at all, so we went to St. Luke’s and they immediately took care of my husband, they truly show compassion for their patients unlike Mercy.

Terrible experience. Admitted to ER 3 different nurses failed to get a catheter in me. Was charged nearly 500.00 dollars for seeing the ER doctor ( he stuck his head in the door and left) and he did absolutely nothing for me. Finally admitted for surgery in the smallest room the size of a closet. Do not want to ever go to Mercy again.

Do not go here the staff is rude and there are crazy people walking around in there they al have attitudes to I was there last night for diabetic issues and they put me in a room a lot alone in the dark after giving me some medication in my iv that made me pass out and I only seen my nurse 1 time the whole 5 hours I was there DO NOT GO HERE GO TO ST LUKES INSTEAD

Doctor was in and out like flash. On my report he only listed one of the 5 symptoms I am having. Told me to follow up with my primary care physician and booted me out the Door. Alot of the other staff were amazing. However the doctor I seen, which I don't even know his name as I'm positive he never provided it to me seemed like he could care less about me as a patient. I felt like a number and i will never be returning here again. Cost me 250 dollars to still be in the dark.

This is the worst hospital ever. My bf works as a roofer and 2 months ago he fell off and cut half of his chin off. All they cared about was insurance. He was there for over a hour with no pain meds and took 5 hours to get x-ray of his foot that was broken. I asked them if it was and the only answer I got was I don't know. After I left to go home to take care of our kids and went back up they said o yeah his foot is broke. If they would have gave him surgery within the first hour they could have saved his teeth but he had to wait for 10 hours to get surgery done on his face so he lost three of his teeth because of that hospital. 10 hours waiting for surgery and only gave pain meds 2x. If u love your family don't go to this hospital. And if your skin color is brown don't go to this hospital.

Horrific Horror

I wouldn't even give this place one star. My fiance is committed in the behavioral ward and staff there make the stay for paitents quite dreery. They have set times for things which is fine, but he's a recovering meth addict and coffee there is the only thing that helps him there and they keep denying him things that he needs to keep his own sanity in there. Staff is rude, need to retaught how to deal with the mentally ill. I would not recommend sending your loved ones to be committed. You'll regret your decision.

Currently starving in the er. Have been here for 2 and a half hours and all they have done was taken blood tests. I asked for iv or even a gelatin and all they said was we’ll be there right away. I am pregnant and my stomach is aching from how much hunger I have. Asked someone if they knew if the doctor would be with me soon, she replied very rudely “I’m not a doctor or a nurse I wouldn’t know those answers”. If you want to go to a place where they take almost 3 hours to give you the help you need and want to be “helped” by rude, inpatient staff then this is the place to be. Next time, I will go to st Luke’s instead.

Took my son in who's under 2 years old for his 105 fever and all they did was day to keep giving him water, although I asked them to take an influenza test 3 times and the Dr refused. I had to take my son back to a different E.R. st the end if the night because his fever didn't giveaway and found out he has influenza a. I will never return to mercy again after this. I filed a complaint and received one call where the woman on the phone asked questions as if she was interrogating ME and then I never heard from anyone again. They did not care about my concerns. They only called to see if I was going to do anything about it

Don't have any plans or work the day you have an appointment. I have heard of hurry up and wait but at the rate this place goes, you could be a teenager when you get there and apply for social security before you leave.

Having a baby at Mercy was the right decision. The Mercy nurses did their job perfectly and they allowed us family time. And a huge room.

This "medical center" is an absolute joke. The staff is worried more about their breaks and personal conversations than the actual patient. Never mind the priests that come to the room more than a nurse or even a doctor in this forsaken building. The staff is absolutely dismissive, and the most popular answer is "I don't know". Well, if you're looking to come to this particular "medical facility" I strongly suggest you weigh your options.

VERY UNHAPPY! My Mom went in a little over a week ago. For 8 full days my sister and/or I stayed in the hospital (even overnights) with her. On day 5 my sister asked if we could speak with a social worker because someday we expect to take her home or to a long term facility and we wanted to know what her options are. She told us not to worry about it, she is going to be here a while, and we would talk about it later. Two days ago the oncologist stated that she would be in the hospital at least another week. We both work...today is the first day that neither of us is there to talk to them in person and I get a phone call from a social worker saying that she needs to go somewhere else and she wants me to decide right then what we are going to do. This is a bunch of crap! We live 1 1/2 and 3 hours away so running over there isn't possible. Why couldn't they have taken the time to talk to us when we were there asking for help?????!!

Got here before 5 with orders saying to be admitted for an abscess. 3.5 hours later still sitting in the ER. They must charge you by the hour for these rooms.

Pretty much made sure I was in agony the whole time after surgery and then sent me home with pain killers equivalent to aspirin. Since the surgery was in Friday, then I had to spend the whole weekend in agony. I bet Monday I will be denied a reasonable painkiller... If I were you I would find some real pain killers before going to this place for surgery. Not a good experience in the least. Absolutely infuriating! Unless you like pain!!

It's a shame how people are treated. If you look " normal" you get a different level of care. In my current profession, I've witnessed hundreds, of incidents involving these experiences. I was with a friend, just in the past week. He doesn't fit the bill and it was noted how differently he was treated. If it was me, I would of been treated differently. He went to the ER, 2 days in a row, only to be kicked to the curb. The next day I took him to Unity, where he should of went in the first place. As expected, the treatment was like it's supposed to be. He was admitted and they are addressing his condition, that was not diagnosed previously. Really sad.....

I have never had such a horrible experience in a medical facility. I went to the hospital with chest pain and shortness of breath. I spent 36 hours lying on a cart in the ER. It was 4 days before my cardiologist was contacted. I was given the wrong medication numerous times. Finally got a heart cath. and 2 stents. Feel lucky to have survived this hospital.

The patient financial services department is horrible to work with. Don't expect to get any discounts on your medical bills and to be jerked around for way too long. After going back and forth with them for months, I was finally given an amount to pay that would take care of my bill. I paid that amount and then a couple of weeks later received another email stating that I still owed more. I would not recommend this hospital to anyone and will be going to St. Luke's from now on.

The Emergency dept. is not a pleasant place to be. Have to wait way to long for care and the admitting dept is not the cleanest. The differences between St. Luke's and Mercy is not helping the Community as a whole for care.

The worst place i have ever gone to. I took a 2 years old baby with high fever level and all they did was took us to the room and close the door. I stayed in the room for three hours with a very sick baby without even being asked a single question.

IF U HAVE ANOTHER OPTION USE IT.. I went in with pneumonia barely able to walk..after an hour freezing in a hospital gown for no reason was discharged with no iv no medication just a script. To top it off while waiting on my Uber I laid on a couch in the lobby... security asked me to leave because laying down made people think I was " a bum"...WORST EXPERIENCE.

The PA that saw me in the ER was rude and unethical and the wait is unreasonable! I was treated with no compassion and insignificant. It was almost like she thought my injuries were not serious enough to seek medical attention and she thought I was seeking pain meds! I did not ask for anything, nor did I want anything! I fell down a flight of stairs and she didn't even want to do x-rays! I will never put me or my loved ones under care of their staff again!

we have had several stays here, this last one was wonderful because we got a room closer to the nurses station so there was someone there all the time. it makes up for the last few times that weren't as pleasant.

Previous hospital stays have been above satisfactory. However, I was admitted from ER on November 24, Thursday, thru November 29, Wednesday, 2018, to Room 6202 for bronchitis. 24 hours from dismissal, I felt I was treated with disregard due to pending dismissal. Rude staff, disregard for continued treatment, waited 5 hours to have my 5th blown IV removed, several hours passed of being checked on as to status or needs. It was like: "Get your ass up. And get out of here all ready". Needless to say, two days have passed. And I'm still upset. Call me a snow flake. My accolades however to outstanding nurse "Tyler" who consistently days and nights (5) went wayyy above and beyond the call of duty. He was my salvation. Thank you, dear Tyler!

I was at Mercy overnight for breast cancer surgery and reconstruction, and I was taken care of very well throughout my overnight stay. Medical professionals were all compassionate and caring. The other rival hospital in Sioux City’s name was mentioned as a suitable alternative by those whose response was negative, however, because of that hospital’s strong arm rules, my mother was forced to go to that hospital because her dr is on the board of directors and so all his patients have to go to that other hospital regardless of a patient’s wishes. The staff there was efficient but there was no compassion, and Dr. refused to respond to my mother’s needs. Then, they brought in entire nursing students groups without asking our permission. She was finally discharged, with no medical reason for having to have been admitted! In comparison, My whole family has been treated by Mercy for years with compassion and smiles and stopping to answer our questions. They were SO compassionate and attentive to me, it made all the difference to help me through the difficult reason I was there.

Had a drs appointment for my Mother. It’s 2 hours for me to get her there. We wait 2 hours before we are told the Dr. had an emergency !!!! They didn’t call us they had time we wasted our day ! I understand an emergency I really do, but call to cancel please .. we will go elsewhere for her care

I wouldn't recommend this hospital to ANYONE!!! My sister is here with a smashed left leg. Has been for 5 days. Nothing has been done to fix it. Her wounds are not being tended to at all. We've seen the dieticians more than any nurses and doctors combined!!! We're trying to be transferred immediately! But the hospital is fighting us. DO NOT GO HERE!!!
