REVIEWS OF St. Luke's Des Peres Hospital IN Missouri

This is the friendliest hospital I have ever been to. I believe it was Pam who picked us up up stairs to every nurse. I’ve been here 8 hours while my mom has surgery and everyone has been great.

They have changed their food policy. You get what you get and it’s inedible. Nurses and techs do not listen to what you have to say. They just want a paycheck. I tried for three days to get my meds for heartburn. I finally gave up. I was left in bed for an hour waiting for help to the restroom but they were no help even when they finally came I love my doctor but I will find a new one just to avoid this hospital.

Dr. Rush/Rutz in ER refused to do a simple blood test to rule out a serious fatal issue (disseminated candida) that I am certain I have, the result of multiple infected abdominal surgeries, a mesh repair, including one at Des Peres, the reason for my return. I'm at Barnes now because he refused to listen, even telling me "You dont look sick" before even drawing my blood, and they are taking my condition very seriously. I'll update when I've determined that he sent me off to literally die. I wouldn't bring my dog here.

Visited their emergency room hoping for a short wait time and an answer to the pain I was having. The doctor was very mean and told me "well you're talking yourself into a lumbar puncture, I hope that's what you want!" And went on to tell me about how the team of people who usually do those were gone for the day and if they had to do it they would be "going in blind". The doctor did blood work and didn't find anything. Told me I probably had a virus and discharged me with a perscription for Vicodin. I ended up back in the ER two days later at a different hospital and after a urine analysis found out I have a kidney infection.

The ER staff was so kind, compationate, and profesional. My father passed away and I am assured they're considerations helped me thru the absolute worst day of my life !!!!

This hospital killed my mother n law this past Tuesday they should have the option to do zero stars!!! Actually they have been killing her slowly over 2 years!!!!!

Their emergency room was very quick and Dr guy was very nice. Don't wanna go back but if I had to I'd wanna go here.

Very fast to get in and seen less than 15min get in and xrayed and into a room. My only thing was I had a wrist injury and they didn't have a wrist splint in my size and wanted me to take one that was too small and charge my insurance for it and make up the size difference by using a ace bandage. That didn't make a lot of since to me so I told them no. I will be seeing a sports med doc for one.

Last night I visited Des Peres ER for a second opinion on some urology issues I was having. The reviews online were pretty good and it's very close to home so I decided to give them a try and I am so glad that I did! I told them I had been to a different ER the Monday before however I was still having the same symptoms/troubles and growing a bit concerned after one week and no solution, just a bunch of time waiting for my PCP to make the next move. The doctor and nurses were all so friendly and knowledgable. They started a clean slate and quickly got me into a bed and gown. Full workup: urine sample, bloodwork, CT scan. Very clean and thorough. I was in and out in a matter of a couple/three hours with a new antibiotic and a referral to see a urologist. I felt comfortable the entire time and I would recommend them to all my family and friends. Thanks again for giving me the answers I was looking for and moving forward!

BEWARE!! I recently had surgery ( July 2016) and had a three day stay at DP hospital. It was my first experience and although the admitting folks, the pre-op folks and my surgeon were very nice, my stay was far from nice. I have never been as worried about being mishandled and dying in a hospital as I was here. My first night after surgery; I was on a morphine pump & with my asthma, the alarms kept going off. NO ONE would come for almost an hour ( I video taped it and even text my family because I was scared). Finally a nurse came & turned off the alarm & then totally disconnected the alarms! When I asked for my asthma rescue inhalers; I was told that "let us see if you get one". What?! Then the same nurse came in with one that she couldn't open and so I asked her to just get my purse and get mine out from home ( big no no but didn't know what to do at this point) and she did! Then when I kept having issues breathing, I was told respiratory was coming. THEY NEVER DID. I finally asked to be taken off the morphine pump.. I'd rather have pain. Then a nurse came in two hours later and gave me Norco which my doctor never prescribed (he told me later). Then my first day after surgery, I had my vitals taken at 7:39am AND THEN NEVER AGAIN until I asked that night and they came in and said "you had them at 10am". Total lie. The night shift came in & looked it up on the machines and said that someone falsified my records because the vital machine on the wall doesn't lie and it shows 7:39am. She then checked my vitals all night and was very nice. The next morning, morning shift nurse came back on and came in and said "let's let bygone be bygones". What?? You give me meds that my doctor gets upset about because he didn't order them, ignore me all day, you do not follow protocol, someone puts notes in that are not true and you want to "Let bygones be bygones"? I told my doctor that I wanted to go home. I honestly felt safer at home. To follow up- I have called the hospital several times and left voicemails but NO ONE HAS CALLED ME BACK. I even told the survey folks who call from another state to check on my visit! They said to call the local number again. BEWARE AND MAKE SURE FAMILY STAYS WITH YOU IF YOU HAVE TO GO TO THIS HOSPITAL!!

Good hospital

I can't comment about the care, BUT, the insurance staff REALLY sucks. WE were told that, if we paid the medicaid premium to Des Peres that medicaid would be in effect for the month. NOT TRUE, the pharmacy would not fill prescriptions, even though they took $487.00 What a scam.

Micheal Moore

Had a total right knee in April. Dr. Ritchie and the hospital staff were the best and friendlyest.

DON'T EVER GO TO THIS HOSPITAL! I was taken there by ambulance in a non-responsive state. When I came to and found out where I was, I demanded to be released immediately. I was afraid because the Post had recently reported that Des Peres Hospital had the highest rate of hospital-acquired infection in the entire region. MY MEDICATION WAS STOLEN WHILE IN POSSESSION OF THE ER! When I arrived, the bottle of PERCOCET in my purse was inventoried in and when my purse was returned to me my tablets were gone. No one could explain where my meds had gone. Not the person who processed me out and not the disheveled, wild-eyed doctor on duty. I was instructed to call a nurse in ER in the morning. I did so and was met by a rude, insolent woman who was of no help at all. Some time later the Post reported that Des Peres Hospital had continued the employment of a doctor who was known to be a drug addict. I do not know whether this was the doctor on duty when my narcotics were stolen or not. I should have called the media and a lawyer but I was in too much pain to manage that. I am in pain management and no meds are replaced regardless of the reason you are without them. So I just had to suffer until my next appointment. My apologies to the general public for not being up to warning them.

Ginger Martin

I love des peres hospital. Dr Scott is awesome.

I would recomend good hospital, istayed two day,s after surgrey through out every dept. Staff profesional and frienldy thankyou

Jon Hessel

From start to finish, everyone at the surgery center was fantastic! This was my first experience with this hospital/surgery center and I could not have been more pleased!

Tracey Schowalter

My dad was brought here with barely a pulse after collapsing and going into cardiac arrest. The staff here has been the most attentive and caring staff I've ever encountered. I recommend it over any of the larger hospitals. They look at issues from all angles and try to make sure they give the best care and solutions possible.

Dr. Kevin Rutz... and staff are the best

Cynthia Drakeford

I had to have back surgery! I could not even walk let alone put my own pants on! I saw Dr Rutzs and he and his team have been excellent

Cameron Snowman

They were fast in the ER. Got my blood drawn right away and got me an emergency refill in and out in 3 hours. Friendly staff.

NEVER go to Des Peres Hospital for an emergency (if you had more choices), they charged too much. Here is the example. My 7-year-old son fell on the ground and cut the skin under his chin last month and went to the emergency room of Des Peres Hospital. Four stitches, done in half an hour (I appreciate that), but they charged me about $3200. ($3200/half hr., about $100/min., this is the most expensive service I have experienced). As a comparison, last year, my son (the same one) fell on a coffee table and cut the skin around his eye, we went to Mercy Hospital St. Louis emergency room, the injury was even worse, 7 stitches, done in one hour, finally I was charged $537. What a difference? I appreciate both hospitals and I am not saying Des Peres Hospital is bad. I just don't understand what difference in service makes such a hug difference in price (under the same HSA insurance plan), and want to share my confusion with you ^_^. I called the hospital. The answer is that different hospitals charge differently. I asked if there is any place (like a web page) where I can check (roughly) a service price (like $2000 for only half-hour emergency room fee, they told me that among $3200, $2000 is room fee, not treatment fee) before stepping in, the answer is no. Does that mean you go, then pay whatever they charge (or want to charge)?

I've been to this hospital twice now for surgery and in both occasions I have had nothing but the best treatment. The staff was extremely friendly and made sure I was comfortable at all times. I would recommend this hospital to all of my family and friends. Thank you to the staff and my doctor for making it easy. VERY GRATEFUL!!!

LA Williams

ZERO communication between ER and admitted to room; all the info given in ER magically disappeared when being admitted to a room on another floor. Geriatric patient with Dementia signed informed consent form for surgery; even though he kept asking where am I?! No communication from and between physicians, nurses to family members. "I will be right back with the test results", really meant "I am leaving for the day and have no intention of returning"!!! 6 hours in ER for blood test, and urinalysis.

juan chevalier

I got my bariatric surgery performed at this Hospital, by Dr Howard Lederer from the Newstar program at this Hospital. The people at this place are very kind and friendly. God put the right people on my way, specially , DR Lederer. This is a hidden Gem in the St Louis area

Richard Miller

My experience was NOT good within their ICU unit after surgery on my Heart and although my Doctors were great , the attitude and care of their nurses SUCKED! I will NEVER use Des Peres Hosp again even if it means I have to change Doctors unless they will utilize a different care facility.

Katie Stute

They left me in a room in horrible pain for over an hour. Not one person came to check on me and when I left they made me sign an AMA even though I hadn't seen anyone except the nurse who put me in my room. If there's more than one person need medical help DO NOT GO! You will wait forever!

Unfair treatment realizes that interfering with another's civil rights is a violation that creates an action for injury, but before you can protect your civil rights, you must recognize and know what they are. However, articulating an exact definition of civil rights can be difficult to pinpoint because it is a very broad set of laws. Absolute garbage hospital. Set an appt 2 days ago. Drove 70 miles to be told they don't take my particular type of insurance. All this AFTER I had given them my insurance details when I set up the appt. Absolute garbage hospital. Do not go if you value being alive. Place will set you up and kick you down. Garbage. Would give 0 stars if I could.

Love this hospital they take care of my mother each time, both the doctors and nurse are pretty nice

James Rector

Very nice place and the nurses and doctors are very nice.

Cheryl Cantrell

The staff was awesome! Even my husband said a nurse named Annie I believe was so tender and understand ing. They accommodated me in ways that were great. I suffer from PTSD depression and I had a trigger. She was there for me. Thank you Dr. Judd for your patience. Overall experience was really good. Thank you

I went in with extremely high blood pressure and came home with high blood pressure 3 days later. I was given a EKG, Echo and Stress test even though I told them I had just had them done a couple of months prier. They sent me home with paperwork as to what they thought may be wrong. Really?? If you thought that was the problem... Why not run that test instead of the ones that I didn't need and will have to pay for again! I won't be going back there!!!

I had a Heart Attack (Age 48) and was taken by ambulance to Des Peres Hospital. ER Staff was great. Unfortunately, that's where the quality of care disappeared. Arrived at 7PM (Shift Change) and Des Peres Hospital didn't bother to have its Cardiac Cath Lab staffed with a single Cardiologist. Endured 12 hours of an untreated Heart Attack (No Angioplasty, No Stent Insertion) and almost died after developing Ventricular Fibrilation (V Tac). Cardiologist on call preferred his sleep over answering/returning his pager alerts and it almost cost me my life. Nurse fed me a whole Domino's Pizza during my Heart Attack even though I was listed as "NPO" No Liquids/No Food. This place is void of a SOUL and is under/inadequately staffed and unless you or a loved one want to leave in a body bag I would recommend you point the ambulance to a competent urgent care hospital.

Fred MILLER

its a bad hospital, visit their emergency room , its always empty . That should tell you something!

Baba Ali

This hospital is amazing very good experience and very happy that I came here in ER

Danielle Wieners

I went in on 2/19/2017 with pain in my chest while breathing and had another great experience here, it was eventually diagnosed as pleurisy. They took me right back to a room, the nurse was extremely attentive and kind, even though they were overwhelmed with patients and shorthanded. The doctor's were very nice and even took time to show me an application on my phone that would help find me the cheapest prescription prices to make sure that I could afford the medication he had prescribed. I always have received the best care at this hospital, I go out of my way if possible to get my healthcare here and I recommend it to everyone.

Susan Cottrell

I was a patient here for 4 days with a severe case of pneumonia. I cannot compliment the staff enough at this hospital. My care was excellent. The doctors, nurses, tech people were extremely kind and professional. Never have I been so impressed by a hospital.

Jeff Favignano

Had surgery recently, I have never been treated so well by any hospital staff in my life. They actually care about their patients. Gold stars all around!!!! Couldnt be more thankful!

Husband had throat surgery for cancer. Have been back to hospital 3 times in 2.5 months. Everybody was great! Allowed me to park our small motorhome in parking lot and ran a power cord to me. I stayed in motorhome a total of 25 days which made our stay so much easier on me. Can't say enough nice things about everybody. Security gave me meal tickets, landscaper would stop by to see if I needed anything, nurses would stop me in hallways to ask how hubby was doing. Waiting now to be released and Debbie from Patient Safety just stopped by to wish us well and give us a hug! Would recommend this small caring hospital to everyone.

Debbie Sullivan

Extortionists! I walked into the emergency room because I thought my wrist may be broken...with my OWN XRAY. They took my blood pressure for some strange reason and then had me wait only to be told to go see a doctor! For this they tried to charge me almost $400 and have now hit my credit report THREE TIMES!! I REFUSE to be held up by this disgrace and poor excuse for a medical facility. Disgusting!

Mehwish Khan

I took my daughter after a fall when she injured her nose and my biggest concern was to rule out fracture. I had a worse visit. Nurses are very kind but the doctor literally did not do anything and told me to wait and watch. I mean if I have to wait and watch, why I brought her to the ER??? They did not do any X Rays. My advise is that if your child have any trauma or injury, NEVER take the child to Desperes and instead take them to MO BAP or Mercy and I will be doing the same. I wasted my $200 in co-payment

Lori Nobbe

5 stars for Des Peres Hospital. I too was in cardiac arrest when admitted. It's a small facility, so the nurses are abundant, attentive and only a click of a button away. The doctors all work together if you have several issues going on. Everyone on staff works well together so there is no confusion about your condition. Even the food is pretty good.

Fred 1975

Dr. Ritchie and the staff at the office, as well as Hospital staff, were all A+ in my book.

Raché J.

You can feel God here through so many of these sweet people. They make you feel calm and safe and it is such a relieving feeling. I was having some chest pain and sob; they got me in right away and immediately did an Ekg and X-ray. It turned out to be Bronchitis, but they were prepared for whatever and were very prompt in helping me and easing my nerves as I also have potentional anxiety associated with not being able to breathe/asthma. I recommend to anyone and I truly hope you receive the same care I did.

Whitney Rickard

Excellent patient care and attention to detail. I had no wait time, was immediately taken care of and saw the doctor 15 minutes after arrival. He sat in the room and spoke to me about my condition very thoroughly. He was very knowledgeable, answered all of my questions and didn't try to rush through the exam. Great experience.

I had back surgery and stayed at Des Pere hospital for 2 nights. It was small but clean and I wasn't kept waiting. I received excellent care from the nurses and staff and want to Thank Martha, Amy and Tamara for assisting me in the best way possible. I have had 6 surgeries at different hospitals in the St Louis and Belleville areas and I can honestly say, Des Pere gave me the best friendiest care!

Linda Koerber

About two weeks ago I went to the emergency room with all of the symptoms of a heart attack. My primary physician's office contacted a cardiologist affiliated with the hospital and contacted the emergency room while I was on the way. In less than 5 minutes after arriving I was in one of the ER rooms and about 4 or 5 people were involved in hooking up monitors and getting me comfortable. The cardiologist came in the see me right after his office hours ended and he was an awesome to talk to and get answers from. I was in a room in less than two hours after arrival. I was admitted and a cardiac cath scheduled for the following day. I was given excellent treatment from everyone involved in my care and I was discharged after the allotted time passed from the cath. IT WAS AN AWESOME PLACE TO BE AND THE CARE IS EXCELLENT! Linda Koerber

Check in fast, staff is very nice and friendly. But wait time for doctor to come see you is extremely bad. I mean you are in ER. And if wait time is 1 hour plus to see doctor, than its ridiculous. Specially when its not that busy. We pay crazy money for ER because you get urgent care and treatment. But if you waiting this long than i guess its not ER. But again staff is great.

To Des Peres hospital/Dougherty Emergency physicians, Thank you for your response to my issue. For potential patients, please call your insurance company to make sure you are covered, document the call as well as ask the hospital what entities will be billing you and convey that information to make sure you are covered.
