It is going on 15 hours I'm waiting on MRI with no Food or water. This is pure torture. If they don't have the staff or enough equipment than let us know. This is making me more sick. I am absolutely miserable and the hospital is making it worse. I understand waiting for tests but its 1:01am and prob will be waiting all day tomorrow.

To the owner or Director of Barnes- Jewish Hospital. It is essential that hospitals be immaculately clean. Take note..... your housekeeping department are not doing their job. FYI,. many parts of the country, specifically Los Angeles, have been serving patients delicious and sometimes gourmet food since 2000 and earlier. What is your problem! You have nasty gross food! I will not be coming to this hospital. Washington University Hospital has 5.0 stars. You and other hospitals in St Louis and Kansas City and Springfield, Branson Hospitals, don't meet high standards. I will have to be flown by life flight from Mountain Home, North Central Arkansas to Washington University Hospital in St Louis just to get 5.0 star care!! That's sad.

My mom has suffered in this hospital. She had shortness of breath and the staff kept looking at their monitors and stated she is just having panic attacks and we literally had to beg for them to put oxygen on her. They finally sent for the respiratory therapist 20 min later in which she brings in the machine that is inoperable and takes another 5-10 minutes to find another. The RT and nurse was laughing as the rt was slowly getting the o2 machine hooked up. To top it off, this was in ICU. The nurse told my dad and I that we were having panic attacks also. Wouldn't a normal person get panicked if they seen their loved having breathing issues? When talking to one of the doctors regarding my mom, he told my dad and I that we took 15 minutes of his time and that basically he did not have time for us. We were told from one nurse that she could do more for my mom but that she was not allowed. We did NOT sign a DNR and informed her to do what she needed to do in which case she told us we would have to talk to the doctor who in turn told us that we stated and told them per my mom that she did not want life support. However, to revive her by CPR. He acted as if their CPR consisted of the life support machine. Everytime I asked what are my moms options, basically she did not have any. They took out her balloon pump after I begged them not to as she seemed to be improving. So I asked, "If she begins to go downhill, can it be put back in?" Without reasoning they said, once out it does not go back in. When I would ask about the LVAD, they told us when she did have some energy to her that it is only for patients who are in worse conditions than my mom. Then when my mom got worse, they said she was to weak for the procedure. They sent in a chaplain to pray with us as if she had already died instead of for my moms healing. I am very dissatisfied with their care and feel like my mom would still be alive had we went to the mayo clinic. I honestly believe the reason of BJC being one of the top in the nation is because they paid to be listed as such rather than actually being. My mom has seen a cardiologist from BJC for approximately 3 years and you would have thought they could have done tests and done something regarding this instead of letting it go this far. When my mom went into cardiac arrest, another patient in less than a minute down the hall did the same thing. I guess their motto is, "Getting rid of 1 patient at a time." I am very dissatisfied with BJC and want to let everyone know, you may reconsider taking your loved one there. I would NOT even recommend taking my worst enemy there. You can honestly say you have been pre warned. Now I have to live without my mom for the rest of my life. Dont let this happen to you.

My friend accidentally cut his wrist at work and hit a vein. He’s been waiting for 2+ hours to have it stitched.. unacceptable.

Just had a hysterectomy at Barnes yesterday. I hope I never have to visit this hospital again in my life. My surgeon was wonderful, that’s the best I can say. I was told the Parkview Tower was newly constructed and the rooms were private and very nice. Absolutely disgusting. Not sure what they were comparing the rooms to My surgery ended at 5:00 and didn’t get into a room until 9:00 I’m diabetic and because of surgery my blood sugars were very high which leads to frequent urination I could not get anyone to help me get up because the nurse call button was broken My bed was apparently “locked” so, I couldn’t move it up or down. The nurse unlocked it and it locked again. I had to wait until my husband came back the next morning to fix it. Honestly, there are so many other issues I had while I was there that it would take all day to explain.

This was once a great hospital to which I financially supported as well felt pride. It has fallen quickly. There are some great docs and nurses, but increasingly few. The nurses are probably overworked and underpaid. But for whatever reason, they are often distracted from the kind of patient care one finds elsewhere. Basic patient needs, supported by hospitalists, were often ignored. A number of other patients told me they only came to Barnes as a last resort. Personally, I had the worst experience with techs--drips that never worked, draws that missed veins after six attempts (for me, its usually one) and left significant hematoma. Dispensing medication was a chronic problem.Drugs came at the wrong time, or not at all even though ordered. Barnes may remain a great choice for highly specialized medicine. For the usual reasons that people end up in a hospital, there are almost certainly better options. Dr. Henry Greenspan

Had a muscle biopsy done at Vanderbilt. Came back abnormal. Barnes got remaining sample and said normal. So Barnes done skin biopsy and drew blood. Xrays and nerve conduction test. Wverything came back normal except skin biopsy. Diagnosed small fiber neuropathy. Only thing to do was take Lyrica. After 3 months couldn't tell i was taking. Then had a local mri. Went to pain management and injections in back. Perfect fix. Barnes said nothing could be done. Biggest complaint is Barnes used me for "research" as I call it and ran up over 10,000.00 in charges. Its like they get blood etc while your at appt and then when you're not there its a free for all on tests. Doctor was not pleasant nor was the initial male nurse that came in before doc. Communication on phone is horrible when getting update. Whole thing was a waste of time and now I'm making payments on 2600 dollars after insurance for damn nothing. Beware and ask questions about what their plans are as far as tests.

I work here but it's one of the best places to be if you are really sick or hurt. Some of the best medicines and technology in the country

Best experience I’ve ever had at a hospital hands down. I had at least 6 doctors come in and check in on me in less than 24 hours. They found me a bed in the hospital in record time and made sure that I was informed and comfortable. Shoutout to my amazing nurses Rebecca and Megan in the ER and Sarah and Danny on the 14th floor for taking such good care of me ❤️ Very talented and sweet people.

These people saved my life and I am grateful .The care I received here was the best. They were professional and friendly during my stay and return visits. I gladly pay for the parking when I get the best possible care I could get anywhere . God bless Barnes Jewish Hospital

I haven’t been to a hospital yet where the staff has been so wonderful and compassionate. My loved one was flown here for emergency neurosurgery. When the surgeon Dr. Albert Kim came and briefed us on the surgery we could tell that he was extremely invested in his work. This man was so brilliant and so humble. We couldn’t have wished for a better person to do this job. I cannot stress how amazing and this man was. The rest of the staff were upbeat, helpful, and compassionate. We trusted them completely with the care of our loved one. I’ve been to this hospital a few times and my experience has always been five stars.

This occurred a few years back however following an earlier spinal fusion I was losing feeling in my legs and found increased difficulty walking. I went to Barnes. The physician ordered an x-ray and said "the hardware is in place...". The next day I returned as it was becoming too much. This time a MRI was performed at which time I was told the same thing. I left and was taken to St Luke's. This time a CT Myelogram was performed showing the damage and nerves being pinched. I was in surgery the next day. This was something which may have caused permanent nerve damage and an x-ray was run? It is easily understood that the issue of repairing a prior surgery is not what most Dr's prefer but to take the time to help is important.

Horrble service. Got here at 11pm and it's now 3am and they told us it's another 3-4 hour wait! That's a guess because they are just now seeing people that got there at 6pm. If your dieing don't come here cause they will make you wait just to die! I will never ever come back here and I drove an hour cause I heard this place was the best. Never ever coming back.

My mother in law was flown to Barnes Jewish hospital, when she arrived there they had her under a completely different patient. Her arm band was even a different person than who she was! If we would have not realized that they would have treated her for something completely irrelevant to what she has! We ended up being moved to the cancer portion of the hospital, after 3 HOURS of waiting. When we got to the room, it was disgusting. There was actually BLOOD and water on the ground in her room from someone before her! She had 2 pales of pee on the floor because no one came in to change it, at all. When they would changer her IV fluid they would leave all the trash on the ground. For being a newer hospital, it was terrible. Absolutely disgusting! We got better service and treatment down in the country where we are from! This place is nasty!

If I could give this place 0 stars I would. This is the most racist company I’ve worked for. I was fired at 6 months pregnant no warning no verbal action. Just fired.

My family and I cannot say enough about this amazing hospital and the nurses and doctors who make it so special. They have literally saved our dad. He was written off by another local hospital and thankfully made his way to Barnes where they have literally given him a second chance at life. The nurses there are top of the line. They go way above and beyond to make him happy, calm, and educated on what is happening to him. Our dad nearly lost his life several times this year, so when his 60th birthday rolled around yesterday we really wanted it to be special and celebrated. The nurses on 2100 allowed us to use their personal conference room to throw our dad a well deserved birthday bash! It was exactly what all of us needed and for them to make us feel so at home was truly a gift we cannot put a value you on. He has gotten so strong since arriving at Barnes and we are incredibly blessed that we have these amazing people working on my dad's team. Best hospital hands down.

My mother was here several times from 1996-1997 for cancer treatment. All I'm gonna say is I really wish that I would have taken her somewhere else! Her nurses were all rude except for the nurse she had in the ICU after her 10 hour surgery where they mutilated her! She fell out of her bed one night and when I went to see her the next morning her roommate told me that after my mother fell out of bed she called for the nurse and no one came until hours later! I called the admin.office and wad given the run around! I should have sued this place big time for all the stuff they did to my mom but I'm not the suing kind. What goes around comes around for all...in one way or another!

Took my mother to the ER on two separate days, spaced 4 days apart. My mother has epilepsy and her seizures have been getting more frequent. She presented new symptoms and we were advised by her neurologist (from Barnes) go to ER. She was scheduled to be admitted a week later for video EEG monitoring but we were advised not to wait that long based on the new symptoms. First night at ER, sat in the waiting room for over 3 hours and had not even been called up to be registered. Had children with me, could not wait any longer, so I left. Second trip, 3 hours and counting. I guess she needs to be on the floor having a seizure for it to be serious. I came here because the neurologist operates here and obviously if I had taken her to a different hospital, she wouldn't be able to have the video EEG next week at Barnes. I also came here because I was told they are the best. I have not seen anything good yet. Horrible!

Melanie Hercik

Before 2010 this was a wonderful hospital. Over the past 6 years the hospitals customer service has dropped considerably. Doctors don't listen, the nurses are inconvenienced and everyone knows better than the patient. There is no help at this hospital if you have a serious issue.

Joanna Vamplew

Truly terrible. Scheduled a procedure that required extensive prep. Appointment was set and received confirmation letter with instructions and arrival time. Spent money on the prep which I started so medication taken without a purpose, couldn’t eat for a day, changed my work schedule, my driver had to loose work time. I’m an oncology patient and has to change an oncology appointment for this procedure. The day prior at 3:15 I receive a phone call reminder of appointment and they changed my tine so due to oncology appointment I can no longer have the procedure. Sarcastically asked if I’d like to reschedule despite having their confirmation paper in my hand. Money, time, stress and physical discomfort because either they screwed up or deliberately changed the time because it worked better for them. I will not now or in the future ever reschedule this procedure. Purely shameful.

This hospital was ok. My boyfriend was admitted and he stayed for a total of 4 days. When I first got there to visit him, they told me the location of his room and when I got there he was gone and none of the nurses knew where he was. I waited for about 45 minutes until a nurse could tell me where his room was. I wanted to stay with my boyfriend through the night as it was already late when I arrived I was told that I could stay in the family waiting room but not in my husband's room. All the lights were on the staff was very loud as this waiting room was an open room with a small hallway that let out to the main desk. And there was only chaos to sleep im with no reclining option. I did not get any sleep. When I was finally was told by one of the nurses that I could go back in his waiting room, when I arrived in there and sat and laid next to him in his hospital bed, he different nurse came in and said that I was not allowed to be in there even though when I asked another nurse they said that it would be fine to be in there. That happened 2 more times after that throughout the night. I was very annoyed and frustrated to say the least.

Barnes is known for certain specialties and quality of care may depend on what you are there for. My experience with Barnes has been excellent. I can't recommend the CR surgery and CR floor enough. From pre-op to post-op and everything in between I was treated with kindness, understanding, and respect. I was there for multiple stays within a 12 month period and every time my quality of care was consistent. The CR nurses at Barnes are some of the best!

Jennie Walter

6+ hours waiting to get seen for chest pain and shortness of breath. 4 hours in finally got insurance checked. good thing we all bow to the technology gods and don't actually take care of our patients. still waiting...pain getting worse. worst er in the area. highly recommend St Mary's for all.

san-chan watashi

er had there security have me leave when I asked for a er on call dentist because I am having tooth pain in multiple teeth. Didn't receive no care. They have a policy if your a trauma patiance ever they don't believe you need anything else. The docs name is Sabina a braithwaithe MD. I'm gonna sue this hospital for male practice. They have a dentist on a different floor and kept lying from we don't have on call dentist to your condition don't look that bad when I have a abscess that's not going away. Any and every time I come here they don't treat me right or with respect. The money spend on it was wasted! They treated multiple other patients like this to. Then run there insurance to cover cost they don't do. I'm also contacting my insurance company medicaid to make them pay back all money taken and fraud for taking money without treating. PS yes there is on call dentist two family members of mine went here for dental treatment with same insurance and my family said they'd give them her name to see the treatments and they denied me er emergency dental. One had same issue if not mines worse is going threw my gums, chin and cheek is whollen. An patients relations never do a damn thing. So ill be suing instead. And starting a position to shut this place down or get all docs and nurses in er section replaced for more officiant workers.

I took my son to Barnes and Jewish Hospital for an emergency procedure and had a very professional experience. From Security Staff, Registration staffing, Emergency Room staff , Operation Room Nurses, Recovery Floor staff and Nurses Technicians. The Comunication I got from all staff was amazing while son had surgery. From Drs and Nurses. Thank for the staff on 6th Floor. If I needed medical attention i would come back. Thank you again God blessed you all FOR CARING❤️

My mom and I went in to the emergency room here for her. She was losing sight in her eye by basically the hour. They said they made us a priority 2 which would be a couple of hours. After waiting for five hours we finally decided to just give up because when asked how much longer the lady at the desk said “there are a few people ahead of you and one person who’s been here for longer” which means their priority listings are inaccurate or a lie. While waiting there were zero updates and the waiting room was filthy. One person we were sitting near said that he comes in often and the average wait time is normally around 10 hours. This emergency room NEEDS more doctors if their wait time is a 10 hour average. When we called ahead the staff said it would be “a couple of hours wait” when in reality if we stayed it would have probably been around 8-9 hours. Of course it would take longer if traumas came in that had to be seen immediately but after 5 hours we saw a total of two. The cherry on top of everything was we had to park across the street instead of in emergency parking because they said the driver had to be the patient (even if the patient was in the car we couldn’t park there) and their kiosks for leaving the parking lot are broken. I went to another hospital about 10 minutes away and three minutes after getting there we got to an exam room and almost immediately they started taking care of us. NEVER going back to Barnes Jewish.

I been going here since I was a teenager...the hospital is great..the ER wait time is absolutely horrible.. ridiculous..ER staff is not too great..I got asthma, been waiting for 5 hrs and counting..I had to walk to my car in the garage get my own breathing machine out..go to the bathroom and use it...just to get some kinda relief. It's best going to a Urgent Care than to sit through that.

Romana Muller

This hospital saved my mom's life. She had a perforated colon and had to have emergency surgery. Dr. Wise and his team did a fantastic job. Also the ICU nurses and staff are amazing. Our family will be forever grateful to them for giving us more time with our mom.

Silver Lonewolf

A very well maintained public hospital. Been there several times for emergency needs and they were skilled and on top of it. Because this hospital is in the city, I understand that waiting times can be long. They even saved my life when I had a life threatening condition (Appendicitis.) I am forever grateful for them and hope they continue becoming better and better.

Do not deliver your baby here! I delivered my daughter here and it was truly terrifying. I was induced, and my nurse was awesome! Then when it came time to deliver her about 15 people ran into the room. I am assuming some were students or doing some kind of training. I was not asked ahead of time if this was okay, I was not told this was going to happen. They all stood back and watched me deliver my baby. They ended up having to use forceps because her heart rate was dropping, I was terrified. No one tried to calm me down or reassure me. I wanted a very private delivery, I did not invite any friends or family to the hospital because I did not feel comfortable with several people seeing me exposed. If it were medically necessary to have that many people in the room I would have been more than understanding. This was my first child, so I don’t know how deliveries usually go, but this definitely did not feel normal. It was beyond terrifying to have a room of strangers all standing around me while I was delivering. It gives me nightmares, and is terrifying to think about. I dilated to 10 cm very fast, so maybe they needed this many people in the room, or called too many people in at once, but this just did not feel right. I have heard so many delivery stories and watched so many videos, and have never once seen or heard of this many people being in a room while someone was delivering before. Overall, every nurse and doctor I talked to was very friendly and informative. This was just a major event in my life I was very excited for, and I cannot look back on it without cringing. I just feel that my feelings were not considered when they decided to have that many people in the room. My boyfriend also mentioned to the staff several times that his other daughter was born with a heart murmur that indicated another underlying problem when she was born. Then, right before being discharged my nurse asked me about my daughter’s heart murmur, which she had said was detected in the previous evening, and no one had ever mentioned to us. At her following pediatrician appointment after leaving the hospital the doctor told me the heart murmur was gone, but it was not mentioned on her chart from the hospital.

Lakeysha Baker

The wait time for the ER is unacceptable. We've been waiting for 5 hours to b seen. They could surely find a much better way to execute the long wait times n their ER. I cant believe how very unprofessional their running the ER. In a city this size they need more er Docters b/c this is utterly ridiculous. I will never bring my child back here again. 5 hours is way too long to b waiting to b seen in ER. They take more ppl than they have enough staff for. Doesn't make any good since at all.

Caitlin Johnson

A family member was admitted for kidney and heart problems. He was there several days in a shared room. The ER was spotless, but the floor he was taken to was filthy (for three days we walked by a plastic covering that had been thrown on the floor and hadn’t yet been picked up). The hospital bed didn’t work, the food was surprisingly unhealthy, everything seemed outdated and unclean, the air was stale, in general, the condition of the building is really alarming. The doctors were wonderful. I appreciate them so much, but no one should be forced to choose between good doctors and a good facility.

Sandy Crabtree

I had a total abdominal hysterectomy on Thursday and was released today. I can't say enough good things about my care. Every nurse was so kind and compassionate to myself and my fiancee. Dr. Mutch is truly a fantastic Dr. I was extremely nervous, but the pain management team consoled me with an epidural. Even housekeeping and dietary were super friendly Best care I've ever received from a hospital. Thank you . Sandra Crabtree

Cristel Santiago

My visit to the ER was painful. I was in physical pain yes, but the compassion fatigue and overall malaise of the staff was worse. Kindness and empathy are something you can not teach. The only kind person was an old beautiful African American nurse that discharged me. Medical emergency, not the place to go during the day.

Gabby Johnson

Outstanding hospital with easy and affordable parking, amazing staff, and spectacular care. The hospital is so beautiful and is a great place to be at, whether you are a patient, employee, or a visitor. Amazing views from rooms. The only thing to complain about is the poor communication between nurses/doctors/staff members. Seemed that they weren't very communicative with each other.

Ben Dickmann

This is one of the finest hospitals in the world. The affiliation with Washington University Physicians and the WU Medical School is a relationship designed to save lives and it is successful despite the many severe challenges sent to them by other medical facilities. I have been a patient in the system and have several physicians with Barnes-Jewish privileges. I've NEVER been treated like a "number" (a complete misunderstanding by those who have never been a patient). Instead, I have been respected as an individual with individual problems while receiving very personal and compassionate care by extremely competent people. Ben Dickmann

Kim Cash

Worst emergency room attendants in the entire world. Avoid at all cost. There has to be a veterinary hospital closer to you that would provide more competent service. Absolutely ridiculous.

Turner Renee

There's this thing called COMMUNICATION and it needs to be practiced. It's very needed and critical when a loved one is ill and receiving medical care. There's also the matter of COMPASSION. These are two issues I've experienced this last week from "some" of the staff.

tommy lee

I was just there 4/7/18 on the 12th floor room 12102a, the nurses were some of the kindest and most caring I have ever dealt with. I was in for what seamed like routine and non-emergency. They treated me like I was the only patient on the floor. I had dealt with the team of doctors and along with individual specialist they all exceeded my expectations and once again treated me like I was the only patient there. Lastly, even the secretary checked in on me to make sure I was ok. I will always be happy to go back in the future.

Our daughter just had surgery last Friday with Dr. Gillanders. We cannot express how thankful we are that we had the very BEST surgeon and outcome for our daughter. There were some scary scenarios given to us before the surgery, by the anesthesia department, and they were prepared for some potential issues. We are happy to report that not one of those possible problems occurred and our daughter came through the surgery just fine. We believe this was because of the incredible amount of prayer that was being sent on her behalf and because of the excellent staff that cared for her. Dr. Gillanders is TOP-NOTCH in our book! We will recommend him to anyone who asks where to go if they face the same sort of issues. His skill was apparent and his calm and confident nature gave us reassurance during a pretty stressful time for us as parents. From the registration process, patient transport to nursing staff and anyone we came in contact with us, we continually commented how friendly and helpful every single person was! We came from Rolla and were a bit overwhelmed by the idea of a giant hospital system - it did not feel like that at all. It felt like we were in home territory and it was family taking care of our daughter! THANK YOU, Dr. Gillander, Barnes and all your amazing staff!!

Cody Clem

Great technical skills, horrible people skills. Couldn't have made a better pick for my surgery, but after they found an antibiotic that I was no longer prescribed in my backpack (I had some still in there for the infection I was being treated for) I was forced to have my room strip searched and a sitter placed in my room. I don't even want to use the restroom because I cannot without someone staring at me. Absolutely horrible patient treatment.

We have grave concerns with the work ethic, and diversity practices of the discharge planning teams. Mother needed rehab and the dc planner recommended lifecare(grand/chateau) stating they had excellent reviews... I am inclined to believe that this is a dumping ground for BJCs AA population. Ive raised concerns as to the lack of diversity and why this place was chosen for my mom and other minorities versus where they send other ethnicities..... I was meet with defensiveness and resistance of the planner to see another perspective - how this conclusion might be drawn Additionally, messages left with the case manager were never returned.

Sarah Rhodes

I had a left gonadal vein embolization done here, and received near-criminal care. The only thing they did right was the actual procedure (thank God). I could’ve died from the way the booted me out of the hospital and gave very vague discharge instructions. I was still very much out of it and in a great deal of pain when they discharged me. 1. My medication list was wrong. It said I take medications that I don’t and that I take more of the medications that I am prescribed to than I do. 2. They accidentally admitted me before the procedure. They told me their mistake, and said I could just recover there instead of a recovery room. 3. I wasn’t put out for the procedure, but was sedated. I wish they would’ve knocked me out. My sister, who lives in TN had this same procedure, and they put her out, so I know it’s possible. As they were wheeling me out of the operating room, the doctor told me I was free to go! I was taken to my admissions room to be discharged. 4. Nurse Rachet in admissions was very cold towards me. My mom took me, and her and I had an argument (in the future, my husband will take me to any medical appointments where I need a driver). My mom and I are close but frequently don’t see eye to eye. My mom spoke with this nurse, and I don’t know what was said, but that nurse couldn’t get rid of me fast enough...really unfair seeing as how I was pumped full of drugs that majorly affected my judgment and the Dr. told me I was free to go. I had asked my mom to get my purse out of her car. She refused but she said she was going to the cafeteria to eat. I, then, walked down to the cafeteria looking for her. That wouldn’t have happened if I were out, in a recovery room, or told that I was free to go. I could’ve bled out. 5. I tried to tell Nurse Ratchet what happened, but she didn’t care what I had to say. She just gave me a paper to sign and sent me on my way...as if I had any idea what I was signing. 6. When I got up to leave, I had severe abdominal pain. I asked the nurse for a wheelchair. She gave me one. I asked my mom to push me. My mom said, “isn’t someone supposed to push her?” Thinking my mom wasn’t going to help, I began to wheel myself out of there until finally my mom pushed me. Hospital staff is absolutely supposed to push the wheelchair. Again, I could’ve bled out. *Before the procedure, I told them that I’ve had adverse reactions to morphine at hospitals in the past. I get intense abdominal pain. They substituted Dilaudid for morphine. I’ve come to learn that Dilaudid is stronger and shorter-acting than morphine. That might explain the horrendous pain I felt upon discharge. 7. I live 1 hour from Barnes. On the ride home, my pain became intolerable! My mom sped to get me to an ER and got pulled over. the police called an ambulance. I knew the EMT driver who seemed disappointed in me. Since I was completely intoxicated by the drugs from the procedure, I gave them my discharge papers (didn’t realize Barnes screwed that up at the time). Barnes painted me as a big druggie! So embarrassing. 8. I chose to go to the community hospital near my house. I grew up with the ER nurse who knows I’m not a junky. She gave me an IV of Toradol (an NSAID) which made me feel so much better (Red Bud Regional is awesome)! I had a CT scan done that showed everything was as expected following my particular procedure (thank God). The ER doctor was concerned about my elevated liver enzymes. I’ve never had liver problems. I believe Barnes gave me something via IV that caused this. 9. My Discharge Instructions left me wondering how to care for myself post op. I didn’t know when I could remove my bandage. I should’ve had weightlifting limits but didn’t. There was NO FOLLOW-UP PLAN FROM THE DR. They literally, performed the procedure, and kicked me out with no written plan for after care! I pay good $ for insurance, BTW.

This location needs to be shut down for good.. I’m upset you have to leave a star just to leave a review. Er and the staff is THE MOST HORRIFIC. Those people literally get away murder. Why have people on your payroll who obviously don’t like doing their job.

Hospital care here is minimal and sanitation seriously lacking in the general hospital.. Doctors are great.. If you have to go to Barnes Hospital, the only places you want to be in are ICU and the OR. If I ever have to go in this hospital again, I will have an aide with me 24 hours a day. .

Shar Tami

Believe me, I could not make an appointment because they are racist when I was trying to make an appointment they were laughing at my pronunciation and they were acting like they couldn't understand me the worst hospital ever

Sonya Thaning

Cannot say enough good about the staff and the care. If I could give 10 stars, I would. They diagnosed my husband with Guillain Barre Syndrome and quickly took action. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Tonya Carson

Everyone from every department is friendly and knowledgeable . They truly care for their patients. I will forever be grateful.

In and out fast professional and no more pain

Rachel Halo

My mother has cancer and no way would I be taking her any where else for treatment. When diagnosed she was given 6 weeks to live. It now has been 7 years. While she still has cancer the doctor's and staff have always tried their best to help us through this difficult time.

Veronica Eastabrook

I visited the emergency department last night and opon ariving the security people were friendly enough then the people who are sitting there in the waiting room taking youur names were friendly ,how ever from that point on getting into a room the staff and people that work there in passing we're all hateful not any of them were friendly .. then leaving just walking through the hospital staff or anyone who had work badges on was not friendly no one would help point you to the right direction everyone ignored you as if you didn't even exist...I would not recommend this hospital to anyone... Sadly it was my first time visiting . Wow what a lasting horrible first impression!!! This world going to hell in a hand basket .. people don't actually give two craps about you in that hospital ... !!!

Hannah Brittain

My boyfriend just had hip surgery here this last week. The surgical team was absolutely amazing! The communication was wonderful! The facility is clean and spacious. All of the staff was friendly and very willing to answer each and every questions. The doctors and nurses are very thorough and they take their patients seriously. They are very caring and understanding. Love this hospital and I thank them for all they have done!

Kathy W

I've spend the night in only a few hospitals in my life, but I can say with absolute certainty that this one stands out above all others! The staff was friendly and attentive, the food was actually good, and the hospital was clean and easy to navigate. If I have to spend another overnight in a hospital in St. Louis, it will be Barnes-Jewish! I couldn't have asked for a better hospital experience.

Onyedikachi Ibeji

This is the place I entered this world. I was born on April 8, 1982 here at Barnes. My certifying doctor was Dr Laura Hulbert. I wonder if she is still around. God Bless this hospital. Going to visit one day

sheryl tomlin

I was dissatisfied with the way we're treat by the administration my husband had surgery on Tuesday and spent two night in icu you on Thursday 8/2 he was moved to room 7569 then on Friday 8/3 a new patient was put in his room and they didn't like the idea of a roommate so they requested a private room so instead of moving the new patient in another room they move my husband instead even though my husband was in the room first I realized that the new patients parents paid extra for the private room and that's fine but I heard a nurse and doctor told them it maybe the next day before that could happen but then all of a sudden my husband was moved to the room next door we asked if we could pay extra for a private room too and was told they didn't have one but yet I see empty room on the floor if I'd of known we were going to get kicked out of our room for the new patient then I would of gladly paid the money out first I just didn't know that you could and that would happen to us so now I'm disappointed with the way it happened I thought we would be treated better then that and not only that it happened at 9:00 pm when my husband was sleeping even his nurse thought that wasn't right but I know it wasn't up to her she was only doing her job I guess it's not about the patient but the all might dollar I never thought Barnes would be like that !

Chad Armstrong

The staff at Barnes-Jewish Hospital is second to none. They are very caring and very professional. I received the gift of a liver transplant at Barnes and was in and out of the hospital in five days. The transplant team especially Dr Doyle, and my transplant coordinator Mellisa are truly miracle workers.

Anh Pham

I could feel a big change in the service and the quality of care between 2013 and 2015. My doctor and his nurses have been wonderful, thoughtful and very caring but the issues lay upon the in-patient care of other nurses and staffs. I had a surgery in September 2013, the nurses and other staffs were all very caring and wonderful. My second surgery was in July 2015, I noticed nurses could be stubborn, did not listen to the patients and made mistake without saying sorry. Sometimes the staffs were not very nice. However, there was one or two nurses who was very experienced and great at their jobs. I think I had 5 or 6 different nurses taking care of me while staying in the hospital after my surgery. They changed shifts and rotated the patients,I'm not sure.

DrunkenMoose Corp.

While i was there (befor and after my brain surgery) the staff was great and had a sence of humor. i was woke up every two hours for blood and vitals and the nurses handled everything professionally. The nurses checked in on me alot even when i wasn't able to move and half asleep i could still hear the footsteps when they came in to check on me. the sence of humor helped out alot because i was afraid and in alot of pain. The food was not seasoned so it was very bland so i asked for just fruit. I they brought just fruit without any trouble. I later just asked for grapes and that got me some teasing in a funny way. When i was getting better the doctors had me try to walk which i looked like i was learning to walk for the first time but the doctors were very patient with me. Im very glad i came here because i believe the doctors and the nurse staff saved my life.

DO NOT I REPEAT DO NOT COME TO THIS HOSPITAL THEY ARE ABSOLUTELY DISRESPECTFUL THE MALE SECURITY GUARDS TALK TO PEOPLE WITH NO RESPECT 1 of the guards disrespected a female so badly & he almost seemed like he wanted to fight her. Then the staff period will literally let u die someone was here bleeding out on the floor & the staff just took their slow time. They all take their slow time seeing u. DO NOT COME HERE PLEASE

Trev Jones

They saved my grandfather's life. He was on a vent and was out of conscience for 3 months but they did everything they could and they were very kind and 5 years later he is well and alive at age 83. Thank you all!

Best heart care in the world. Beat doc's. Dr Ewald. Is the best ..unit unit 2100. The best live them all .I am waiting on transplant .And you are like family there . food is ok. But I can b better

Cathy Seguin

Been waiting since 5:40pm and it is 1:15 am. Got IV and no room how is this sanitary. Poor service they don't give you answer on how long. My brother is sick and they don't care

OFFICIAL MANDA Amanda Riley

This hospital and staff are awesome! The doctors and nurses are wonderful. My sisters surgery was a success. The only issue is that it's 6 pm and still no dinner for my sister. We were told the dinner would be here at 5:30 pm. Overall, the experience is positive, but there needs to be more individualized care. She needs to eat since she had to refrain from eating for over 24 hours before surgery.

Angel Kopp

This is truly one me of the best hospitals I have ever been to. Our mother just received a heart transplant and the care she has received has been amazing! Through this whole process every Nurse, every Doctor and many other staff members have been great. Not only has our mom received the best care but they are all kind and caring. Our mom has been through different areas of the hospital....each unit from Cardiac floor, ICU, ICU/recovery after surgery has been amazing. The hospital is also so clean and Nice. I can venture to say I know why they are the #5 hospital in the Nation for transplants because of the quality in care they give.

Mary Jo Schroeder

The surgeons originally possibly saved my life during exasperation from crohns dis, though no one will say who actually did the surgery. The resident constantly changed my doctors Med orders taking away pain medicine from me and my roommate. Students and nurses could not keep iv going so stuck me multiple times a day every day. They finally left me in trauma center alone for 8 hours until a young man found me and struggled to get me back. They sent me to icu after getting me stabilized. I now have ptsd from the experience. Won’t go back unless absolutely necessary. I won’t send my dog there on purpose.

Linda Cordes

I’ve got to say NEVER I MEAN NEVER GO TO BARNES ER. 6 hours. 6 HOURS. Hadn’t seen doc. Did manage to get lab drawn. Guy PUT in iv needle. When lab being drawn. Hubby came back out. I told him that iv needle NOT IN VEIN. I’m a nurse I know what a good IV site looks like U could tell the guy flushed needle with a small amt of saline and it puffed right up. Which means it was NEVER in the correct place. Later we told a nurse she flushed and said nope not in a vein. So what guy did was he knew he had to put one in He just didn’t care it wasn’t in a vein. Wow. Really professional. They told us at least another hour. We said 6 hours long enough. So when leaving to get car. Went up to 2 big security guards behind the desk said Need my parking ticket validated they said need discharge paper. I said we don’t have them. He says forget it. AT which time I got pretty loud and said we were here 6 hours that’s long enough. Now picture this. The third big security guy jumped right up to join the other two big guys to face me. ARE YOU KIDDING ME Told them we’d never coming back there they said “good” lol. I’m sure they got that response from a class on how to deal with the public in a professional way. LOSERS the whole problem is the triage We did the right thing we went to our primary who told us to go there she did not have direct admit privileges or he would have been a direct admit He had been hospitalized 2 times in last couple months for sepsis with no answers so primary thought Barnes could figure Out For those patients with an acute problem who have tried office visit should be put on the list first before 99% of the patient who use ER for office visits we were there short time saw triage nurse then it took over 2 hours to get registered Then another hour before the guy took him back to be labs and put in the bad IV and leave it in In those 2 hours saw only 3 people called back for labs This is a big hospital can not figure out y they don’t staff enough ER docs to handle these patients From the reviews this is an every day experience AGAIN WILL NEVER GO THERE they r chasing away patients who have insurance Not good business

Diane P. Snow

I am NOT a financial instrument, I am a patient. Return to your st live, medicine. Take responsibility for abandoning the core people of STL and the sick condition of St. Louis. Arrogance and pride are your Gods. You destroyed my life and I did trust you once.

Sue Wright

Majority of staff very kind and compassionate. Excellent care,

Destany Dawn

I drove all the way from Branson MO to have a D&C done. I lost my baby at 17 weeks. Of course you’re very scared/nervous/etc and all I have to say is wow. What an amazing group of people. The nurses were so nice and comforting through this whole process. The doctors were absolutely amazing and they were so good about constantly checking in with me. Also, the food was amazing! Thank you Barnes for being such an excellent hospital!

T Racquel

If I could give 0 stars I would. I had the worst emergency visit ever. First off, I was registered and saw the triage nurse swiftly. I then waited for 2 hours to be called in to a patient waiting area until a room became available. I was pretreated and prepped for an IV meaning the nurse secured the needle in my arm to prevent me from needing to be stuck again (which was fine by me), vitals where taken, and my blood was drawn for various tests including an hiv test in which I had op-ed for, also I peed in a cup. My urine was very loud, thick like honey and just as dark. After being pretreated, I was instructed to wait in the small patient waiting area (that would comfortably suit 4 patients) for a room. While waiting in the small area, more patients were brought in until it became crowded like a damn FEMA camp, uncomfortable, and hazardous with a couple of patients being brought in with regurgitation buckets that smelled horrible. I waited an additional 9 hours while out of 8 waiting patients, only 2 were taken to rooms. While waiting some waiting patients just left. Only upon asking if they realized that I was still there after 11 hours, I was finally taken to a room. Now mind you, I said my urine was thick like honey, I was never given an IV, never got any labs back, and wasn't given the results to my hiv test. I didn't question why then, because I was so mentally frustrated, disappointed, and ready to go home. The next day when I went to the pharmacy, I just so happened to ask the pharmacist what the medication that I was given for a severe headache was, and she informed me that if was nausea medicine. 12 hours for nausea medicine?

Chemyra Fields

Currently in their emergency department and its the worst I got here about 9:40 ish this morning didn't get pulled to the back until about 12 everytime I. Ask a question regarding my care they don't know the answer it is now 5:24 and I literally don't know what they will be doing next they keep saying they will be giving me a blood transfusion but wont tell me why my bleeding continues to do this just keep giving me blood transfusions wont tell me if they are admitting me or not I asked for something to drink at 2 pm finally got it at 5 pm

justin gallamore

I totally d.shameful considering the great things that have been accomplished here. Such a rich history of accomplishment being played upon by a current staff that has no intention of keeping up with tradition.i totally recind my review I had a procedure today and the care and attention that was given was great!my nurses and Drs were outstanding today! Living up to their outstanding history!

marlena leigh

I wish I could give this hospital MORE STARS!! FABULOUS DOCTORS, NURSES AND STAFF!!!! I was sent here from 5 hours away nervous and scared. The entire staff made me feel secure and in good hands from the time I arrived until the moment I left! AND THAT CARE HAS CONTINUED EVEN UPON CHECKUP APPOINTMENTS !! WILL RECOMMEND TO EVERYONE!

Orhan Erginoglu

I had a back spasm yesterday called an ambulance to take me there( this is the 3rd time having this problem) finally I made it to ER told them I can't sit nor stand have to lay down the lady at the front desk told me I had to wait so I stud up about and hour after an argument they finally gave me a bed, and the staff they don't even care why you are there after another hour I could get some pillows to support my back the only person I appreciate was that physical therapy doctor other than that this place is a disgrace don't ever go there keep this in mind you are not a patient but a CUSTOMER to this hospital..

Georgia Doolittle

I have been monitored for over 15 yrs while on the transplant waiting list. Throughout these many years, I have found every employee from the doctors to the parking attendants to be the most professional & caring people one could want. I highly recommend them for anyone battling a debillitating disease to seek treatment there! I live in a neighboring state and drive or fly to get there. They are THAT GOOD!

John Doe

I visited with my wife for extreme migraine n waited a total of 12 hours. We were called to the back to wait in a 2nd itty bitty waiting room with hazardous waiters that seemed ibola-ish with buckets of throw up. Some waiters left due to the wait and I'm sure the uncomfortability. For some reason they didn't know we were still there. Didn't get a much needed iv, no ct scan, no labs, no nothing back.12 hours in to leave with a bigger migraine then we went in with. I thought it only happens like this in movies.

Ms. X

Horrible experience with Angie who is the nurse of the Gastro department. I understand that you must be billed for any visit but don't make me feel bad because I don't have insurance. She said got to primary care physician but they are still not a gastroenterologist so that was why I was making the appointment. If you don't want to help then don't and if I placed the call as urgent return call I had to call back to be spoken to rudely. When I had insurance they were still rude but now it's ridiculous. We are worried about money but not about saving lives.

Hannah Gmeinder

Not a good experience. My sister had a shattered knee cap. The head triage nurse was absolutely awful. Wouldn't even help my sister go to the bathroom, I had to, knowing it was a liability. Took almost two hours and our release for her to finally dress and disinfect her abrasions that were on several parts of my sister's body. Adjusted my sister's crutches incorrectly and I asked if they could go higher, cuz my sister was hunching way too low to compensate for the poor adjustment-the nurse yelled at me, a concerned family member, saying she's done this job for 22 years. And she directly let my sister have crutches that were hurting, cuz she was so mean and neglectful. They also lied and said they couldn't get Neosporin for my abrased knee, cuz quote "there is a national shortage crisis on Neosporin and they are not allowed to dispense it". They were absolutely awful

Kathleen Lawler

Ambulance ride was quick. Men onboard were nice. Hospital took a minute to get me in a room, but then everyone hustled around to get me comportable.

P Rob

Staff is terrible. Spouse had to ask for nausea medication 3 times over an hour before it was finally given. Then sitting in waiting room waiting for surgery that was supposed to be at 2:40 and was finally taken back at 4pm. Family pagers are worthless and don't work! Help desk staff is rude? Will be asking Dr if he goes to another hospital for next procedure or will be going to another Dr. To think we drove 250 miles to be treated like we were is appalling!

Trisha Robinson

My husband came here for cancer treatments for 5 years. We was always treated wonderful from everyone that worked in this hospital. I would definitely recommend this hospital to anyone. Thank you Barnes-Jewish Hospital for taking such care of my husband and I.

Wesley Kemple

Lost my sister in the system!! Nobody at the hospital knows where she went after they moved her from ICU! Says she is not there!! I was just there before she moved! Was constantly hung up on, heard them calling me names in the background! That place sucks! Her nurse was high or something because she kept coming in the room talking 100mph and would not let us get a word in to my sister!! I f'ing HATE this place! She is getting limbs amputated and I cannot find her!! Told her I would be there when she got out of surgery!

Jenn H

The hospital saved a young man's life 12 years ago. I'm very fond of him and of the hospital ❤

Jennifer Daugherty

I’d give it zero stars if I could. What a joke of a hospital. Go anywhere else.

Kimberly Brenner

I had surgery today at Barnes and, despite the situation I’m in, my experience was wonderful. The doctors, nursing staff, and techs were all very kind. I haven’t ever had a bad experience at Barnes. Their staff are top notch and I definitely feel I made a great decision when choosing them to treat me. Thank you to my team of doctors, nurses, and techs! Side note, Dr. Aleem, who is my surgeon, is phenomenal at what he does. I have been blessed with a doctor who truly cares about my health. It’s easy to get an appointment to see him and he’s very thourough when examining you and explaining things. I’m extremely impressed and recommend anyone whose dealing with shoulder problems to see him.

luhhaffdead

Came here because a family friend who works for BJC recommended it, but if you know what’s good for you or your loved ones you’ll stay as far away from this dumpster fire as possible. I came to the ER because I was feeling fatigued and had a lot of random bruises. Everything was fine at first. Went through triage, no problem, but it was downhill from here on out. I had to wait 2 hours before getting lab work done to determine what was wrong with me. From here I had to wait another 4 hours just to get admitted. Then I had to wait another 3 hours just to be stuck in a room with a schizophrenic roommate who wouldn’t leave me alone. Nevermind I’m in immense pain and just want to get some rest. After being transferred to a second room and having an equally problematic roommate I’ve broken down and written this post. They didn’t even warn me about this. I just want rest. Why would you not tell your patients upfront that they can’t expect privacy or even a chance at rest. This is easily the worst hospital I’ve ever been admitted to by a long shot. I don’t care how nice or experienced every other staff member is, the whole room system is unfair and wrong. Just go to Mercy instead.

M P

The best doctors available when diagnosed with a serious illness. Such better treatment for my MIL than SLU!

Jamie McPhail

The ethical business practices and communication from the business department staff are deplorable and truly need to receive attention from legal entities and possible media coverage. We receieved a bill for services rendered over a year later. We have requested to speak to a supervisor and was never called back from financial aid. I have tried multiple attempts to set up a payment plan and continue to receieve full balance statements with threats of a collection agency. We never recieve statements reflecting the paypent plan agreed upon, and when I call literally weekly, I am told (oh, we don't see you set up a payment plan with us in our notes and repeat the same action with current CSR to again set up another payment plan and to again receive a threat to pay full balance a week later.) It is virtually maddening that your department lacks proper communication with patients. I have recorded every conversation to have for my own notes and protection due to the constsnt miscommunication on behalf of the business department. (I was now recently told today by a Dante in the business office that they will no longer speak to me if I record, yet they record me and other patients attempts to pay a debt. It seems a little dehumanizing that you can record me, but I can't record the conversations for my records.) This lack of professionalism, ethics and communication has turned me off so much that I have chosen to take my daughter to a specialist here in our city, KC. That's right- I would drive over 3 hours to send her to what I thought was a world class hospital system, but I have since changed my disposition and we will go to Children's Mercy next time. (Also- here is one example. I spoke to Dante in the business office on 10/16/19 at 9:20 am who agreed to set up a paymemt plan starting the 31st. I called back at a later time and the CS said it was nowhere in her notes, but this has been our experience for the past month where the communication is incredibly poor. We can't get a payment plan set up no matter how many times we call lol) I am to the point where I would almost rather deal with a collection agency!

Stacy Schuepbach

This starts out negative but ends very positive! We had a long wait in the ER. I brought my sister in for withdrawals from Alcoholism. We waited 9 hrs in which was a blessing, she was well into her withdrawals and they say first hand on what we see. The people there treated her with such compassion and respect it was amazing!!!! She was embarrassed and “felt” everyone was judging her, but they weren’t. Everyone made her feel as if she was the most important patient there. I thank you for that! From the bottom of my heart. All of you there. Its a thankless job. I saw how some of the patients talked and treated the nurses. Believe me it takes special people to do what you all do! Sincerely forever thankful! Stacy Schuebpach

Amazingly great service. Very nice, polite, and caring care taker's "Nurse's". family friendly environment. and just all around great service and care! very Happy & Satisfied with Barnes Jewish Hospital located in St. Louis Mo, *****5***** all day long! :) ~

Jayme Meridith

We where in barns for over 100 days straight and visited many floors and many doctors and had many many procedures done.. the facility and the staff as a whole where really good for the most part the nurses on all floors but one where AMAZING and caring and we loved the thyerpy people they where great .. the only problem with the doctors was the lack on communication they all would say different things and where never on the same page like they never talked to each other ... if that was all my rating would be way high but that is not what is the problem....after your surgery is done and after you get infection and have to have other surgery's and after your body has been threw hell and trust me when I say over 100 day in bed takes a toll on you after all that the rehab starts they all act like they will get you better but none of them TELL THE TRUTH.. the TRUTH is that as long as you can rehab in 2 or 3 weeks you will be fine but if you need more time then that they will toss you to the side like garbage.. no matter that you want to get better are willing to work and push your self that does not matter.if you can not jump back from 100 day in a hospital bed in a few weeks then they cut there losses and throw you in a nursing home to die.. that's my problem it is like the hospital only cares about the slice and dice and not getting you back to life back to your family.. and they dont tell you that part the part that matters the actually getting better part .. what good is extending your life if that life is toss to the side like it doesn't matter ..become to us it matters...why does my father have to pay for the infection you got from the hospital become of the complications of these infections he had to stay in the hospital longer and it made him weaker and now because of this he one gets a few weeks of rehab and then kicked out maybe if the infection didnt happen he would have healed better and would ha e a better chance to rehab in a few weeks but now he gets toss away it's not his fault he got those infections it's not his fault his heart failed it's not his fault that it takes time to make up all the loss of strength for being bed ridden for month but he has to be punished by the rehabilitation institute of st louis cause he doesn't get to be rehab he get a taste of rehab then tossed out.. why did you all fix him extend his life to what to be tossed out of rehab to not be able to walk or to be able to go to the bathroom or to set up in bed that is the life you gave him cause you give no choice to get better.. he has the will and want to get better just no place to actually work with him to rehab him for more then a few weeks

david rohrbach

This is one really great hospital...

I wish I could give you no stars because the level of service is below poor. My father had to come to the ER tonight due to his diabetes. No one checked his sugar once he got here and we had to ask for it to be checked while we waited. We got here around 6:30 it is now 1:30 and he has still not been seen or given insulin. I understand how people die in ERs now because your staff puts less than half an effort into checking on people....do better!

Fred Zacher

Ranked 11th national for hospitals.

Ronda Thomas

I have IPF so I am waiting for a lung transplant. Everytime we go there for a check I meet great people. No matter how busy they are I always feel they have taken proper time with me and my family.

T Lodehc

I came back for severe pain, The charge nurse Sam was rude and combative when I asked why the nurse last at the desk did not look up my name when I asked had I been called. Turns out I had been called and me asking twice was irrelevant. He became combative and stepped to my face when I asked to speak with someone above him he told me no you're speaking to me now. This hospitals hygiene was as bad as Sam and Maggie's attitudes. Perhaps Sam is overworked and should not be working with people. Every time I come to Barnes I see blacks being mistreated and disregarded for this tall white man to step to my face without any conflict I didn't cuss at him disrespect him or anyone he thinks to jump up and disrespect me my space my time my life. Things need to change this was a horrible experience because at this point the only person that cares or not if my cancer came back is me. And as far as their concerned I could just go and die with it.

N P

HORRIBLE hospital for kidney transplant! They often look for reasons to DENY you just to be MEAN! SLU is awful too. Best to go out of state for kidney transplant.

Gina Stone

Had Ct scan. Yearly check!! Wish me well. I spent quite a bit of time a couple years ago there, with many visits. Every one the staff. And. Doctors. Are the best, couldn't ask for any Better.

Michelle Butler

Yea, they get 5 stars for the worst department in the BJC network. The (BJH)EVS (Housekeeping) department is horrible, unethical work environment and personal-politic culture Over the last twenty years they been unable to successful attain staff. And o''course management is the number one problem. Currently, they have individuals ( Weaver. Laprade, Bou)l from an old management with old mentality of how to conduct business . Poor customer-service skills, interacting communication skills, management and training. A dead combination for failure. BJC needs to get a new professional staff of management in this department. . The evening shift manager is horrible. as well as the operation and senior managers I was really disturbed when the operation manager- Weaver stated "Can you believe it , as old as I am they got me going back to training! And when the senior manager in a interview stated "We have a very high turn-over rate!" If you don't believe me check their track record, it speaks for it self. Or even better ask the staff they will tell you. So, if management is a mess then you know the service is a mess. The Question that comes to mind is: "Why isn't BJC/BJH trying to solve this problem?" BJH needs to change their whole outlook on Cleanliness. it starts with-in. This group of managers does not have any idea on how their behavior is affecting the growth of BJH organization. A professional image means everything.

Utanda Frost Tabor

Been sitting here 7hours in the er and still havent been seen...

Brian McElraft

Amazing in its hit or miss. The place can only be as good as its worst doctor. I have a chronic medical condition so I've seen a lot of them there and this place has some stinkers. No idea about irrelevant nonsense like the gift shop or cafeteria.

Ebony Jenkins

I'm appalled by the behavior of your staff! My mother came to the ER in tears (uncontrollably) with a ripped bowel and they refused to help her only giving her tylenol which did NOTHING for this level of pain. Then she came back for her pillow she brought with her and the nurse retrieved it from the trash can and handed it to her and walked off! This is why you stay in court...and if anything happens to her you will be there again!

MaryJane Millner

Overall I would rate the care my husband recently received at BJC - City as very good, especially the floor care on 11300,11400 & 11500. The Chief Resident in Neurology was also very good. & spent time explaining what was happening and answering our questions. My husband had two admissions in a week thru the ER and the first one was much better than the 2nd one. What I am surmising is that the Nurse Practitioner , who told me she was in charge of my husband, was new and out of her element. As a patient advocate for my husband I have no Problem speaking up but every patient needs a strong “patient advocate” at every medical facility and I’ve been to a lot of them from the Mayo Clinic, Duke and MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston.

Susan Baker

Dr Chamberlain and all of his office staff are very friendly and efficient! I recommend Dr Chamberlain for shoulder surgery! The best surgeon for shoulder joint replacement!

Kimberly Hicks

My husband has been going to Barnes Jewish for 3 years now to Interventional. They deal with the clotting issues in his veins. Dr. Vedantham is the best there is.in the world! So is his Nurse Neitters, whom we couldnt survive without, literally. Have her on speed dial since we live 3 hours away. By far the best and most knowledgeable place I know and we have been all over for my husband. Don't know much about other staff over the Hospital but I'm willing to bet they also go above and beyond for their patients! Give this Hospital a 5 star Rating for sure! They are literally saving my husband's life...God Bless and Make Beautiful Memories!

I took my disabled brother to the clinic here to try to get qualified for Medicaid because his knees are badly damaged. I was told on the phone that, because he has no income or insurance, that his bill would be little or nothing. In the twenty minutes that we were with the doctor, he would not sign the form we needed and didn't even look at his knees, but did order a blood test (to feed their system I suppose). My brother soon received a bill for more than $1000.00 for the use of their facility, and is being told that he will soon receive yet another bill for the doctor's services. We waited an hour to see the doctor, only to be sent away empty-handed and over charged.

The people at this hospital genuinely care to comfort both the patient and their caregivers. They offer financial assistance to those who need it so that nobody is turned away or left behind. This hospital is an example of an ideal being real, where words and deeds go hand in hand, everyone's life matters, and we all get a fighting chance.

Doctor awesome nurses on 8 floor awful don't listen and never check on patient just awful

E.R very slow. My husband went in at 4am.It was very slow. Staff seemed to busy giggling and talking about their weekends and gossip to take care of patience. We didnt see a doctor until after 630 am. Barnes has a reputation of being terrible and definitely was a terrible experience with uncaring staff!!! We were released at 10am with my husbands condition no better than when we arrived. Too bad insurance changed and we are forced to use BJC. Hope we both stay healthy because this place for sure will let you die!

Great Hospital. I've been taking friends down here for years. The only problem is... It's so darn big. I get lost all the time here, but, there's always a friendly staff member or even another visitor willing to show you the way. There's also a mail that you can get from the information desk. Keep up the great job on having one of the most friendly and compassionate staff of any hospital that I've been to.

My husband has been an in patient multiple times; 2002, Lymphoma, 2012 Lymphoma relapse, 2018 AML - 3 times since diagnosis. He has received superlative care.

Worst waiting hospital ever been waiting 8 hours since I got off work left and came right back and still have people in front of me after 6 hours ago I was told it will be like only 2 hours now it’s daylight and associates walking pass asking how you doing like how you think like why would I come to the ER tf I’m so irritated and give me that one star back Barnes-Jewish Hospital don’t deserve it and my doctor bill better not be high and I’m making sure I’m questioning every hour God please.

This hospital has serious shortcomings when it comes to safety!!! We were not given vistors passes or asked if we had them, and watched many others walk straight into different areas including the 16300 icu type area we were without any security personnel or measures visable. Then, there was an incident in the main lobby restroom. The restroom to the right after you get in the main lobby from the plaza garage footbridge across from the information desk, specifically. I went into the ladies restroom and three women were blocking the path to all the stalls. One woman was crying, another holding her face, and another in a white zip-up hoodie leaning on a stall. I couldn't get past to the restroom, and as soon as I realized what was happening and that they weren't going to let me pass, the one in the white hoodie stood up and told me to "get the f*** out or else." and walked towards me. I turned around and left without arguing, and the girl in the hoodie walked out after me and stood in front of the bathroom door to not let anyone else in. I started hearing wailing from inside the restroom. My boyfriend heard the crying and screaming and told the lady at the surgery desk near by what happened, she said call security - it wasn't her problem. We talked to the front information desk guy and he called security. "Erica" answered and was frankly unconcerned. She even said "if it even happened" after she was given a summary of events. I understand that this is a hospital. Serious and unfortunate things are happening here. I was here to see my dad today who just had major surgery due to stage 4 cancer and is in icu - but you can't hold a public restroom hostage, and you can't threaten other people. I would be more understanding if the situation had not been so hostile - or I hadn't been threatened for simply entering a restroom. Furthermore, the blatant disregard and lack of care by the staff - ESPECIALLY security, is utterly disgraceful and frankly, scary. Security is literally supposed to be there for these types of situations. This was NOT okay. I should not feel unsafe in a public restroom at a hospital, or have security question if it even happened before coming and checking the area. If there are cameras it can clearly be seen happening!!! Im so sorry for whatever that persons situation was, but the wailing could be heard by the fountain from the bathroom - that alone should have triggered an inquiry. The entry was blocked off, someone was threatening to anyone that entered - and security didn't care. Totally unacceptable!!!

Bad experience! I drove my husband 2 1/2 hours because I heard Barnes was a good professional place to get help. Our hometown did not have the services to help my husband that is why we made this trip to Barnes Hospital ER. The ER was very small and smelled like wet dog. I was very disappointed in the way the personnel treated us and the services was not professional at all. The gentleman that was checking my husband in kept his back towards us while asking questions. Very rude. My husband was having problems walking and in extruciating pain and we waited over four hours and never was called back to see a doctor. Never got the help my husband badly needed. I will never recommend this hospital to anyone.

Worst communication system I have ever encountered, many staff were helpful but gave me phone numbers that did not work. All I needed was a person to verify my Doctor's fax for blood work. Called every department nobody knew where my fax went.

I have stayed in this hospital twice this year for over week at a time. At Barnes I had four surgeries (in patient), both times being admitted through the ED. I was promptly seen, stabilized, and then admitted. Without a doubt, I can say they saved my life! Barnes is patient driven and focused, which is evident in how every one from doctors, nurses, techs, food and nutrition to transport treated my family and me! My family and I we're kept informed, and doctors took time to explain and educate us; they taught us medical terms so we understood what was going on. I cannot express my gratitude to housekeepers like Shelia and the food and nutrition gentleman who went out of their way to brighten my day! I am thankful for the nursing staff and assistants on floor 10, the hospitalists, doctors, surgeons, and specialists working together to treat me in the best way possible, with respect, with understanding, and with compassion. This is a remarkable hospital!

This was the most unsanitary hospital I have ever been in! I don't know how they keep from being shut down. They keep forgetting to continue my son's orders from day to day. That was very important considering he has a high grade level 4 malignant glioblastoma brain tumor! He had to have continuous steriod and anti seizure meds and we had to keep inquiring why he didn't get his dose day after day! Not impressed! One a positive note, I want to acknowledge the "SUPPERSTARS" at Barnes in the Neurology Unit also. There were 2 very exceptional nurses that we had during our stay at Barnes. We were in the Neuro Unit on the 11th floor. Ryan and Shannon were AMAZING. Ryan would come in SEVERAL times daily even when she wasn't my son's nurse and stay and help with anything I needed. On our last day she came in and left a very sweet note for us on a Post It note for my son. Loved her! Shannon was another nurse that went above and beyond for my son. She was the one that noticed that the Doctors notes were not updated with his medicine list on it and got it taken care of so he wouldn't get miss any doses. She was very nice and compassionate. We nicknamed her Shae- Shae. We also had a nurse that was, I think, a charge nurse. I can not remember her name but she has twins of her own. She went above and beyond for my son at probably the MOST stressful trying time during our stay at Barnes. These nurses deserve recognition because they are the direction Barnes Jewish needs to be taking! The House Keeping Department definately needs work!

The NICU staff is amazing. Thank you for all you did for our family through a most difficult time.

I have endometriosis and have been waiting for surgery since August of last year. I also habe blackouts and had contested heart failure back in 2005 with my 1st pregnancy...just this February 2018 I was schudgle in for surgery for endometriosis they gave me a date .. made me do follow up appointments then less than a week before my surgery they cancelled because they wanted me to be seen by neroligy.. so 2 weeks later I was seen by neroligy and again assigned a date for surgery... not even a week later I was called again this time they called and blamed the anesthesiologist and said he wanted a echo of the heart so I wanted a month and got that done. They again gave me a date for surgery once again sermons health called not my nurse and instead of saying hey surgery was put off she said I quote so when would u like to come in for cardiology apointment. I told her I was unaware I needed one! Then 3 days later my doc informed me I needed one. Also I can not take birth control because of blackouts, indo, and migraines, I can not do iud because it travels 3× almost killing me so I refused the iud. I'm trying to get my ssi because of my health.. My nurse wanted me to get my tubes tided, a hysterectomy, or iud I told her no because in the future I wanted 1 more kid, she said about how soon I said maybe 3 years. I told her I wanted the surgery for info before march.. she put in my paperwork for ssi that I wanted a baby by March and I refused meds and doctors recommendations

Nurses made fun of our last name. Other nurses were chewing gum. Third nurse had a mohawk. Let us wait for three hours before surgery before they mocked my name. Not what I expect from medical "professionals." Difficult to get in and out. Staff is very unhelpful.

Barnes is the hospital that saved my moms life! She was sent to the ICU from Herrin, IL. She had to be put on ECMO. She had really bad pneumonia. The Doctors and Nurses are so kind and reassuring and answer any questions you have! Special thank you to Huda in the 84 ICU. Moms first nurse and she’s checked on us ever since and checks on moms progress! Love this hospital

My mother was transported here from 2.5 hours away. Because we couldn't be there every minute we trusted the hospital to keep us informed. They did not! Not with updates, not with test results, not when they applied restraints (without consent), not when she hit milestones, tore out her IV or had the drain removed from her brain, not when she was transferred to other units, nothing. If we weren't there in person or initiating calls(which usually required leaving a message and often didn't result in a return call) , we heard NOTHING. Scans, procedures and tests were ordered (and pre-registered for) then when we inquired about the results we were told that they hadn't been done after all...with little or no explanation. We found later that some had actually truly been done but we were misinformed. Different doctors and nurses would give conflicting medical explanations and "opinions". My mother suffers great confusion due to a brain injury...one of the nurses told her to "stop with the silliness". We reminded her that it wasn't silliness, nor was it deliberate. Their pharmacy didn't stock a medication that she took daily so we were asked to provide it (and it's costly). We were happy to do so. When she was transported from Barnes to a rehab hospital, we reminded the hospital to send her medication with her. They did not. When we called to inquire they initially stated that she used all of it while she was there...then reminded us that it's very important that she stay on it. Upon being advised that it was impossible that she used it all they "did further checking" and stated that it had expired while she was there and they threw it away....again stressing the importance of her to stay on the medication. No one could explain why we weren't contacted that the medication was being thrown away nor were we contacted to provide more medication...especially since they had continued to stress the importance for her to stay on it. Going without the medication is more acceptable than calling the family to provide more? A family that was there on a regular basis and was willing to continue to provide it and even make a special trip if necessary. Examples of this type are endless. We, as a family, are horribly disappointed in the hospitals lack of communication, care and respect for patients and their families. We used to think so highly of Barnes. By the way, would anyone like to see the picture we have of the ICU nurse sleeping at the desk for the majority of the morning? I WENT BACK TO VIEW MY POST AFTER COMPLETION AND AFTER GIVING IT A 1 STAR THE SITE SHOWS THAT I RATED IT A 2.9 STAR AND EDITING WOULD NOT REFLECT THE ACCURATE RATING.
