It took me an entire year to get a primary care provider. During that year I hurt one of my ribs so badly that I could move, and needed to be brought into the ER in a wheelchair. The ER turned me away and said they couldn’t do anything. A staff member felt bad, because I was crying and in severe pain so he told me I could go to UMMC, and the VA would pay for it. The VA won’t pay for it, and I now owe $2,300 that I don’t have. Yesterday my tibia dislocated from my knee and I have probably torn several ligaments. The VA ER Doctor said someone would call me in the morning to schedule me an MRI, because it looked like I tore my PCL and my meniscus. Nobody called today so I called them. Turns out the doctor didn’t even put the consult in, and then they told me that I can’t even get an MRI for 2 weeks! My knee is so swollen, and black and blue that I can’t even walk. I’m starting to feel like the Veteran’s Affairs want Veterans to die instead of giving us the medical care that we deserve.

Need to revamp a lot of clinics and hire people who care about people more than a check.

Worst employees ever. Some don't have clue as to what they are doing. The Affirmative Action Plan at its worst for hiring inept and incompetent personnel!

The worst place anyone could go to

Great care for veterans. Friendly professionals treating vets

I really understand that the intention is to always try to improve things for Veterans but I don't really feel like these ideas are given the "what affect does it have on the veteran test". Why someone decided to prevent the veteran to be able to talk to the clinic that services their medical needs is beyond me. When I call for medical help, I do not want to talk to someone that is not familiar with me and my care. I want to talk to the clinic that knows me and who I am. Your updated phone system is not user friendly and is more frustrating than it was before. I understand why you have the portion on the front end of the call about hurting yourself. Access to care is still an issue and only appears to be getting worse rather than better. Oh, by the way, this Tri-west local care does a veteran no good if their doctor will not accept them.

More attention given to door security than patient care. AND being a retired Hospital Corpsman I know patient care

What the? Confusion, Confusion, Confusion and, oh yeah GROSSLY INEFFICIENT. If you are in need of true specialty care....BEWARE. This facility definitely foster's the VA's currently negative public perception, which is apparently an accurate one.

These people are completely incompetent '. Every member of the staff tries purposely to avoid ,not help or intimidate the patience for just asking questions. This place needs to be close down immediately. It's a discredit to servicemen and a embarrassment for the state of Mississippi.

If I could I would give NO stars. The Veterans Affairs system nationwide is there only to provide jobs. Everywhere nationwide it is no different than a poorly managed airport. The bull i go through here makes me want to commit suicide, its like they want you to give up or to stop trying. Every veteran I know HATES the VA and HATES going there to deal with the Bureaucracy. The wait times are disastrous, and its guaranteed unless you have connections within, you get DENIED benefits you rate. SOME cant speak for all, of the providers do not care. They see you as a number, they have policies they have to work around especially with medication. I have been prescribed every type of antipsychotic and antidepressant for guess what Anxiety! Just prescribe the damn anxiety medication. Im a young veteran and I get stereotyped These institutions are not there to support Veterans, its a huge pony show. We need someone or some gov agency to ENFORCE the policies instead of allowing these guys to I am one tired ass veteran

Went into Emerg with spider or insect bite visible with redness and very pronounced accumulation of fluid which was not only in that leg but was bad enough to have also caused the other leg to accumulate some but not as much...have history of SEVERE alergic reaction to bees, wasps, and fire ants...no heart distress...no lung problems...all I needed was prednisone pack...was given large dose of diuretic to start the fluid coming off. Within two hours had gotten about half the fluid off...given script to continue at home but never addressee the real problem!!#=;**€/% DOCTOR told me she thought I was just reacting to traveling following vacation---more activity than nomal and richer diet...WHAT A SHAME! This is the care you get in emergency???

Today was my first and LAST time going to this location. I've had less of a waiting time and more professional care in a civilian hospital. I will be transferring my records to the Tuscaloosa location

Went into the E.R with severe breathing issues after a training inncident. Waited, with one of my friends, for 8.5 hours. Got calledback to the room. Only to wait another 2.5 hours before the doctor even came to check on me. Guess who had 3 fractured ribs and a punctured lung. This guy. Guess who ignored me when I told them I couldn't breath. The techs. Very unprofessional. Ghetto, huge hooped earings with long multicolored fingernails and snobby attitudes. Talking about patients when they aren't around and ignoring them when they need something. Have torn my calf muscle, severely burned my hands, broken my knuckles and the cartilage in my right knee is deteriorating. I still refuse to go there. Now, as far as the rest of the place goes. If you have any psychological issues, it can take from 3 months to a year to see someone. They called me 2 days ago to schedule me an appointment with my primary care doctor....In July.

Rheumatologist clinic will not help you unless you have positive blood results. They do not know that you can have auto immune diseases with negative blood work especially if it runs in your family or you have all of the symptoms as such. Never gave me any advice or tips on what to do or why the other symptoms are there or how to help it. They told me I was crazy and making it up. The people in the I’d place made me wait 20 minutes because they were laughing and playing with co workers. And then was offended because I was mad. Do not come here unless you don’t want results ornto be treated like you are garbage.

MS Queen

Would not give it one star but only able to enter comment with it. This facility should video tape employees. Tricare West was instated to speed up veteran's appointment to seek medical help outside the VA. This is impossible when the VA does nothing to approve outside appointments. They are either incompetent or waiting for veterans to die. If I was incapable of doing my job, I would be fired. I don't understand how these people keep their jobs.

Richard Lancaster

The medical staff here treat you real good the doctors and nurses are great however I hate staying in the hospital the food is terrible and when you get it it's cold taste bad the surgical center is excellent they have the most up-to-date equipment other than having to stay in the hospital it's a great place

Best veteran care in town

The Challenge Girls

I have never seen a place that is supposed to be taking care of pts be so rude on the telephone. The Audiology Dept employee was the only one out of five different transfers to give me her name when answering the phone. Both the Operator and Patient Advocate answered the phone without acknowledging who they were. As a healthcare provider myself and a 33 year veteran, I would think that these people could be a little more professional on the phone. I was trying to get my Health Records which could not be downloaded on myVet and was unsuccessful in getting anyone to answer the phone in that dept. The operator said my best bet would be to come in and talk to them. Really?? How bout having staff available to answer the phone!!! I can truly see now why the VA gets a bad rap. If this is the type of service you get who would want to get treated at their

Melissa95336

Good people, still a government facility but they do things well. They take good care of sick folks.

Ken More

The only hospital I have ever seen with its own police force. If you go there you will understand why. Rude, disrespect and abuse to veterans abounds. Like many others, I have been deprived of my benefits by their system. Yes I could go there and have, but I would rather die than subject myself to the insulting abuse of their personal. This is NOT health care, it is a bureaucratic, nepotistic, gravy train, and most of the staff has never served a day.

There is definitely room for improvement hence the 3 stars, but don't let this deter you. There are truly caring and compassionate workers here, and some amazing veterans behind these walls who Credit this place with saving their lives! I know many veterans who come here just for social visits they feel they receive great care here. Unfortunately, unfavorable experiences will speak more voluminous (as my own have in my past). But I try to be fair. I hope future reviews will be more reflective of the quality of this institution as a rather than an experience with particular person in a particular department. My experience wasn't flawless but as a veteran I'd definitely seek care here.

The Staff on 4C is outstanding here. The Nurses, CNA's etc... are superb... So are the Doctors , Nurse Practitioners, Social Workers..And they have treated my husband and I very well. They are very attentive to your needs. I really appreciate the care that my husband is receiving. And no matter where you go in the hospital if you seem lost(which most of the time I was) some staff will stop and ask what are you looking for and some would even take you where you need to be. I just want to say thank you for your kindness during this difficult time....

Lewis Lee

Dear Veteran, You'll need to make sure that you keep on top of the staff. Especially, if you bring in outside medical records. They're easily lost and sometimes not put into the system until a much later date. The 2 ladies at the front desk are great people to talk to. There are good people here and a few apathetic ones too. Personally, I think that the quality of care has dropped a great deal in the past 5 years. Hopefully things will get better for us in the future.

Lane Cole

Doctors and nurses are real good, but administration staff is stupid idiots and don't give a flying s_ _t about you, operators or information doesn't have a clue. You're a bother to them and they just want you to leave them alone and die!

Jeffery Turnage

Would not recommend in consideration of any other alternatives

Keith Turnage

Lots of caring nurses...very compassionate people taking care of our nation's heros!

Soli

Horrid. They don't care. Moved to Ms from out of state. In 1 mo they have changed or stopped 5 of my meds, long term- been on them for yrs, meds. No one cared or asked my opinion about these changes. My previous VA records don't matter and they are making me do things from scratch. I was told my arthritis pain is simply psychological. And no hurry to treat bc it's just chronic... not emergent. Glad I'm important! But if i complain, then im just a drug seeker. They argued over all my meds.... that I was doing great on. Stopped them cold turkey.... not a great idea. Just rude, they'll only do what they want, doesn't matter what you as a person wants or needs. Wasted 7 hrs for 2 appts. I am not pleased with VA services in this state.

Craig Jackson

O different than any other hospital, the wait is long, ppl facial expressions are of monotony and resting $itch face. Yet another reason I try to avoid these places as much as posible .

Great place to go if you want them to do absolutely nothing for your loved one and then try to drain you dry of money once they're dead. My dad was basically experimented on until he died. He chose to stay at home just to avoid this place.

Irving Johnson

Without whom they call "nurse advocates?," Sonny Montgomery VA would not rate one star. Somehow they seem the most sensible in that whole outfit. They save hours of time and nerves, and I hope to count on their still saving my skin far into the future. What VA calls "health care providers" hide behind a firewall of hostility, first hit at Operator #9, who immediately phisches for your SSI# so then nothing much happens after that. Unless you are gadfly insistent, you will not penetrate a hodge podge of run-around, to even getting pot luck, generally short-shrift medical attention. With hard fought battles sometimes settled, I remain healthy enough, in spite of them. Our Jackson VA Medical Center staff collectively harbors sickly headstrong, stubbornly negative attitude, which like that telephone switchboard barrier, however, can be gotten past. Individually you have to feel sorry for those who carry the weight of what meager doses of medical attention, variable all the way from nil to adequate, might happen. If you are both determined and persistent, VA medicine sometimes might match care civilian doctors easily dispense.

Lefty Guns

Repeatedly the absolute worst hospital experiences I have ever had. From the rude police shaking us down at the front gate to the rude and incompetent doctors this entire facility needs some professionals to go over it with a fine toothed comb. I have had to go to the E.R. because they would not refill my meds properly, been treated very poorly by the doctors and been given a medication that initiated diabetic ketoacidosis resulting in a week long stay in the I.C.U. after being told I could not get an appointment for months in advance to find out what was wrong. Excessively long waits for appointments then bad care when we can finally get in. It is a shame that anyone has to receive this terrible quality of care, especially people who served our country.

Patton Womble

Dale Lucia

It is a training facility so it is going to have its issues.

William Glover

My Dad is 93 and has prostate cancer that has now spread to his bones. At age 19 he was landing Marines on Japanese occupied islands under heavy gunfire. He then would be part of a boat pool that would ferry supplies to the Marines. They had to camp on the beach at night and put up with being regularly bombed and strafed. He did this for three years. In spite of his service, we have been trying since last summer to get the VA to pay for his caregiver. I practiced law for 22 years and even I had great difficulty in filling out the necessary forms. I am going to wait a little longer and if the VA continues to drag their feet, I am going to court and get a writ of mandamus. This is a court order to a governmental agency forcing the agency to do what the law requires. I am willing to spend the rest of my life suing the VA if they continue to deny benefits to which my Dad is entitled. Congress won't do anything; Maybe the courts will.
