My sister was admitted with sepsis 2 days ago. Staph oozing from her legs and from an old incision in her side. She has been vomiting and her sugar has been bottoming out. She has been on strong antibiotics by iv and can barely move. Has not been gotten up to walk yet and was told this evening she was being discharged! I don’t know how this hospital has received awards for care but they sure aren’t caring for her! If I knew where to report them, I would. I’m praying she will somehow get the care she needs!

Starra Cooper

Emergency room front desk is rude and unprofessional

Want in to get blood pregnancy test.. They refused they told me to go to the health dpt well the health dpt don't do blood work and I don't have insursnce bc with out written paper work they can't get me on Medicare so they where not nice at all and don't care about the patients or the well-being of a potichal child

Grace Divine

I had surgery at the Center for Women a few days ago. Dr. W. Wolfe did an excellent job and the floor nurses Fran, Karin, Brooke and Lizzy gave me incredible care. Oh yeah and the man that collected the blood work I think his name is Mr. Wood was gentle and kind. Thanks Baptist for making my surgery a pleasant experience!

Chasity Kiger

Extremely unorganized and inconsiderate. Got here at 12:45 and it is now 8:56 and we are still here. Giving them 2 stars because the nurse is kind and has apologized profusely.

My husband was in the Baptist Hospital for 3 weeks and was discharged before we felt he was ready. The case manager continually pressured his surgeon to discharge him. We filed a Medicare appeal but lost. My husband threw up the day we got home and continued until I had to readmit him to University Medical Center with a high fever and white count by ambulance on the 7th day after his Baptist discharge. He will never go back to Baptist. Go anywhere but Baptist.

Unprofessional. Long hours of waiting . I was in my room waiting to be seen from 10 am didn’t leave until 3 pm for an allergic reaction from a bee sting ..all the doc said was “oh the stinger would eventually come out “ & wrote me a prescription for sum nasal spray ...really ?? Then while I was there my kid had to use the restroom so I took her & I asked one nurse who was close to my door “ had I been seen yet while I was out .”.he said “don’t know “ & didn’t even make eye contact with me .. if you listen closely you can hear them laughing and making fun of other patients . Just sad ...they’re only in it for a check . That’s the worse kind of doctors & nurses to see . So if it’s really an emergency..wrong hospital to go to

Lorraine Palmer

The right hand doesn't know what the left hand is doing!!!!! Umc hands down the best. They treat patient as well as the family with upmost respect. Baptist need to learn from Umc.

I had a bill sent to collections that I never even knew about, I never received a bill then all of a sudden I get a collections bill??!?!? Something shady is going on in their billing department and I’m going to get to the bottom of it even if I have to get a lawyer involved this is WRONG!!!

It is one of the larger Jackson hospitals. They have some great doctors and services here, but it has the same problems that any large hospital would

The hospital culture I experienced as a patient was wonderfully patient-focused, whether it was in the emergency room, in the surgery suite, or on the floor where I was cared for overnight. Every level of staff, from doctors to the person pushing my gurney, showed kindness, compassion, and support over the 48 hours I was there. I am proud of our Baptist Hospital and thankful to have this quality of patient care available to us here in MS.

The worst experience I have experienced as a patient.

Customer service is worst in JACKSON. Gestapo tactics to force payment for services prior to anything being done. All patients seemed to be lumped into one category...deadbeats who don’t pay their bills. Sad day at BAPTIST...

First off this place is a pig sty. It was more like a hospital in rural India than one in the US. You only see housekeeping cleaning continuously in the lobby and common areas. They are more interested in appearance of cleanliness, not actual cleanliness. Now there are some really great people at this hospital. They are few and far between however. It has been my experience that like begets like. I fault the administration. One of their staff told me very frankly that I had to remember than MBMC was a business first and foremost. She even suggested that they intentionally ignored certain things not only to save money but to possibly get another hospital visit. This ideology is so firmly ensconced that even the staff recognizes it. I am thinking the good guys that COULD leave, have done so. That is what happened with my family member. A medical issue was mentioned in her first stay. It was ignored. She returned just two days after discharge. That issue was then addressed. This was the worst experience of my life. A surgery that should take a couple of weeks from which to recover gave way to an issue that will take months possibly. While there were a few nurses that were exemplary, most were just not too smart, rude, incredibly unprofessional and in some cases overtly mean. There were a handful of really great physicians. The staff Drs. were again, not too smart, rude, condescending, unprofessional, insulting and very cavalier. I know people that have had wonderful experiences at this hospital in the past. That is the past. Apparently there is a new business model which does not include concern for patient care or cleanliness or excellence in hiring the best. They probably can't get the best. You know there is something profoundly wrong when you are afraid to leave your family member alone with the hospital staff. My advise is to go elsewhere for medical care. My family member had two stays within a week. The first was only marginal. The second was a horrific nightmare. You decide if it is worth it. As for me, I will never again set foot on the property of this business, ever. O , by the way, my family member was treated for a nosocomial infection the second time in. No surprise when the filth of this place is taken into consideration.

I will start off by saying that I received good care in the Emergency Department on 06/26/2019. From the time I walked in the door until I was called into triage was about 30 minutes. I waited in the waiting room after leaving triage for about an hour before being called back to the acute side of the ER. I went in for right upper quadrant pain and pain between my shoulder blades. Nurse Practitioner Clint and all nurses were very caring. I was given IV fluids and had a CT Scan. I was told that I needed an Ultrasound of my Gallbladder which I had friday and I am waiting on my results. The only reason why I am giving them four stars is because it took the radiology staff almost four hours to just come and get me for the CT Scan and that is not including the time it took the radiologist to read the CT and get the results back to the doctor. Nevertheless, I was released around 2:30am. If you are wanting fast service , you may want to try another hospital; however , you do get really good care at this hospital .

Due to a torn tendon in my right bicep my PCP referred me to the emergency room at the Baptist Medical Center in Jackson for imaging that they were unable to do at the Baptist Clinic in Clinton. Please note that I have degenerative disk disease, scoliosis and am recovering from a compression fracture. I am also being treated for vasculitis of the feet and need crutches to walk which in turn caused the damage to my right bicep. Therefore, I am unable to drive and am dependent on Medical Transport to get me back and forth to my appointments. Now for my problem, after being transported to the Emergency Room in Jackson where I was seen, diagnosed and referred to Sports Medicine for a ruptured tendon . I was released from the E.R. at 3:28 p.m. at which time my wife called the Transport Co. for a return ride home. After numerous conversations with the transportation co. they finally called us at 6:05 p.m. to tell us that they would be unable to provided transportation for us. At that point we asked the ladies at the intake desk if they knew of any alternatives that we might be able to pursue as we live in Edwards, ms and could not afford to pay for a taxi ride home. They did offer us a voucher, however, the voucher was only good as far as Clinton and you had to have an address in Clinton to go to. Having just moved here from Arizona we do not even know anyone in Clinton let alone have an address to go to. At that point I wheeled myself outside to think for a minute & a minute later my wife joined me, in tears, and told me that she had been informed that we were to leave the property immediately and within seconds a security officer appeared and asked us to leave. I tried to explain to the officer that we had been stranded and due to my physical condition that it would be very difficult for me to leave. His response was and I quote, "I really don't care, you have run out of options and you have to leave now." He then asked me to get out of the wheelchair, handed me my crutches and told my wife & I to "GO". I am a 67 year old man that is handicapped by numerous injuries and illnesses that have been diagnosed by, and treated by, Baptist Health Systems. I have been told by Doctors, Nurses and staff not to worry that they would take good care of me, that I would receive the best of care and that they would do their best to make me well and I believed them. Yet what they did was to throw me out of their hospital, force me to walk for blocks on crutches in excruciating pain and caused me to further injure my ruptured tendon. And that's not all, they threw us out onto a street in an area that has the highest crime rate in the state; where only a few weeks earlier a young girl was murdered while sitting in her car at a stop light. My wife and I were forced to walk up to and cross the street at that very same light, and for what - nothing. We caused no problems, never even raised our voices and when asked to "Go" we left without a word.We left stunned, hurt, humiliated, scared to death and in tears. Thank you, Baptist Medical Center, for showing us your true care & concern for your patients. Steven L. Lent

My mom left confused about what was her diagnosis. Some of the nurses seems as though they don't care. We didn't feel comfortable there. There is an empty bag of whatever my mom was hooked up to been sitting here since Monday. I came in today and my mom wasn't hooked up to her oxygen. I asked her why she said that she couldn't reach it. She is being discharged we ask could we get her food ( since the brought it) in a to go plate they said yes. Haven't made it yet.

Natasha Zinda

Front desk is rude. My mom had a broken hip we waited for and hour no help . Triage nurses were rude. Awful all the way around

Emmy Ballard

The doctors and nurses here have NO interest in keeping families up to date on what is going on with their loved ones. In a span of 4 days, my family saw the doctor twice, and one time was only because they begged every nurse they could to speak with him. They changed her diagnosis 3 times in 3 days, without every telling us. We just happened to ask a nurse for updates. This hospital staff is sub par, and they are not willing to help families understand what’s going on.

Lakita Glenn

My mother was transferred to this hospital. Since she arrived, the staff has made her comfortable. The doctors and nurses have been very helpful and informative.

Went in with excruciating abdominal pain and uncontrollable vomiting. They tried to discharge me with a UTI without running any tests on me. I stayed and demanded more tests being done and turned out I had appendicitis and had to have emergency surgery, because it was on the verge of rupturing. Worst experience I've had at a hospital.

azurequincy

Came to the er at 8 pm it is currently 3am and the dang doctor hasn't showed I just watch a kid sit here for 5 hours puking blood and God knows what else and His parents eventually got for fed up and said they were taking him to ummc. I watched several others leave since then and this is just utterly pathetic for a hospital. If I could give this place zero stars tonight I would. Let's play the when do we eventually see a doctor game. Edit:Left after 4:30 went to ummc I was in and out of triage in 5 mins and now we are in a room with a doctor. Baptist i use to be your biggest fan not anymore. Entire family and I are switching to ummc.

Their oncology department is second to none. Extremely helpful staff that has the patient’s overall care and wellness in focus.

I went there to have my daughter's X-ray done. It was after 5 so I was told I had to go to the emergency room to have them did. I waited in line and when I explained to the lady at the check in desk what I needed done and she glanced at my paper. She told me they couldn't do it. I know you can have x-rays did in the hospital and not have to see the er doctor. She looked again at looked at the time and said you're just getting here. I told her yes because we had other dr appointments and I had car problems. If my dr didn't have a problem with it why should she. Then she told me I would have to talk to the nurse and started complaining about the Clinic that sent me there. Then she wanted to see the paper again and said I would have go to the other building where they do them and told me that have stopped as if I didn't know that they were. Then she said I would have to talk to the nurse. She started back complaining. While I was standing there my daughter and nephew was standing next to me and it was a man at the desk working with her and I hadn't noticed that nobody came up behind me and instead of this man saying anything for them to move over he just did a hand gesture for them to move. Im like really. What type of ppl do you have there working for. Those two workers are very nasty and I thank God that I didn't act stupid and stayed polite. I try this be an example for my kids. She could have simply said ma'am let me go ask the nurse or someone else because I don't know instead of all the mess she was talking about and the ugly looks they gave to us. There was a time when my family would only go to Baptist hospital but as of lately no way. I know I won't be going back. You can't work in the public or over the phone with the public and you don't have no type of sense,no compassion,no morals and no love for what you do. Maybe oneday Baptist will be the hospital again the I use to love.

Amanda Beth Jarvis

I was admitted yesterday to this hospital... I'll be the first to say don't trust the low stars n negative reviews this hospital has been given by others they have been absolutely amazing with me and taking care of me and making me feel like I'm family they are taking of.. All the way to er doctor n nurses to 5th floor nurses.. The only negative thing I can say is rude er front desk lady that checks you in but once ur passed her ur truly in good hands hear.....

I went to your clinic on Friday March 17th for a meds check to have my prescriptions renewed. My beloved Dr. Diane Ferguson retired. I have no insurance but excellent credit. While filling out paperwork the receptionist looked up from her computer screen and asked me my maiden name. After I told her she informed me that I would have to pay $100. deposit BEFORE I saw the nurse practitioner. That was a first for me! I was insulted and confused but I paid it and saw the np. Afterwards I had to pay $10. more. Thinking it over I decided to call them and find out more about why I WAS asked to prepay. I was told that ALL new patients had to prepay. I KNOW THAT NOT TO BE TRUE because I took my friend from Atlanta there last summer and he paid after his visit. Here's what I do know... I owe Merit health under $200. for tests run on me that I did not authorize. I had been going there, Ridgeland Family, Dr. Ferguson for over 20 years and never had anyone charge me for unessasry tests. A flu and strep tests. Your receptionist saw this on her computer screen. I know you guys lie and say that you are not privy to that info, but I know for sure that is what happened. I will NEVER RETURN THERE AND FEEL QUITE SURE THAT IT'S ILLEGAL.

The Emergency Department at Baptist is poorly managed to the EXTREME. Apparent lack of basic triage skills. Extremely poor patient care experience. This facility should be shut down immediately for evaluation.

Lisa Harris

Poor emergency services for renal patients. They do not offer emergency dialysis and will turn patients away. Do not go to this hospital if you suspect you made such services. I was appalled by their lack of emergency services.

Evelyn Smith

meany grumpface

Worst ER in town. Don't come here. It's nasty. YOU WILL NOT BE SEEN FOR HOURS. IF YOU ARE DYING STILL DONT COME HERE. GO TO UMMC OR MERIT. THE ER AND THE HOSPITAL ARE COMPLETELY DIFFERENT. The hospital and surgery and outpatient is nice but the ER will take you 39 years back in time.

David Read

Very poor service by the nurse Reed. The Doctor was good. But by the poor service given. I'll never go back to that hospital. He said to me your being discharged, get out. You gotta go. I have insurance. I didn't ask for a single prescription drug. I don't drink or do drugs. So I have no idea why I was treated like that. The other thing to. I explained I was new in Town and they did not even give me a referral to a doctor or anything. I was hoping they would atleast referred me to an allergist. Nothing at all. If they treat people like this with insurance, I'd hate to see how they treat people with out it. Good luck if you choose this hospital

Sylita Wesley

I had my last 2 children here and also had home health clients that were admitted to Baptist. The staff are so accommodating and pleasant. I refuse to go anywhere else except the University medical center just because they have the children's hospital. Baptist is the best hands down!

The ICU staff is incredible. Thank you so much

It is a great hospital but must be mindful of the staff it employs. My first few emergency runs were done to the best care possible, great doctors and nurses. On my last and final emergency run, the nurses seem to be out of it. If I was not coherent enough for myself, I would have been on my last life line. The nurse during that time was about give me medicine that I am severely allergic to that could result in possibly death itself. It was asked, written down, and already on file of the medicines that I cannot take. I also did not understand as to why that particular medicine was even issued to me, for that problem that I had at that time. Other than that, the hospital overall is great.

Dennis Williams

The staff are respectful show they care listen and I would recommend this hospital to everyone

Lee Gore

If you use Baptist check your bills. They have double and triple charged me for the same service. We paid it three times not realizing it. And they kept blowing up my phone saying it was not paid. When we explained it to them, they said they would review it. Here it is two months later and they say it is still under review and in the meantime they put it in collections.

Beth Ann Deadmond

Dismissive, unhelpful and dirty emergency room. Was in Jackson from out of town and had an emergency. There were only two others in the waiting room when we arrived and it took hours to be seen, and then only saw an RN the entire time even though we were in for a potential head injury. They said nothing looked wrong but if we were really seeking something it could be sinus pain, even though there were no signs of any sinus issues, and then offered antibiotics - for a head injury.... When we asked for other alternatives or something else we could do she ROLLED HER EYES at us!! Finally did a CT scan and meanwhile, waiting over an hour for results or feedback, the person I was with was writhing in pain. The RN told him to take Tylenol and then slid over some discharge papers, without explaining what they were, and just said "sign..." There was broken glass on the ground, holes in the walls, dirt and dust all over, and that was in our room!! After all was said and done we found out that he was having severe dental issues which should have been recognized and addressed at the ER!!

I never felt so out of place then today! Smart ass attitude and all! Had I not been sick somebody would have got cursed out! If u are a nurse or doctor and u don’t wanna work with sick people then quit! Made me think I was at umc! This definitely was a visit to remember! Stop judging people on they appearance and thinking everybody is on drugs! Dr. Dirk H Danielson that comment u made when u left the room was not funny!

Spent a few hours in the ER with my husband. All of the staff were prompt, friendly and knowledgeable. They were very busy but my husband was well cared by all of the staff assigned to him . Thank you Baptist Hospital.

A. Kristin Chapman

I walked into the ER and was called to triage almost immediately. I love that I didn't have to wait for hours to be seen. The staff was very professional, helpful, and friendly. I was very well cared for while in ER and my discharge instructions were detailed and very informative. I will definitely return to Baptist Hospital should I need emergency care again.

If I could give the ER a zero I would. One star is too much. I won’t go into details, but if you need ER Services do not waste your time or money here.

Baptist is only good for having good care when pregnant other than that the hospital is straight trash. They have been know for being the racist hospital in JACKSON. LET ME NOT FORGET DR. BRUNO IS A COMPLETE ASS AND HE DOES NOT HAVE A PASSION FOR WHAT HE DO. DONT LET ME FORGET THE EMERGENCY ROOM , THEY WILL HAVE YOU THERE FOR HOURS WITH ONLY 3 PATIENTS IN THE ROOM WHAT THE WORKERS BE DOING BACK THERE CAUSE OBVIOUS THEY'RE NOT DOING THEIR JOBS. BUT WHO THE HECK KNOWS?? IM CLUELESS

Shirley Tobias

Well from my experience, they treated my brother real terrific, the staff was great and each Dr explain and took time to rectify the situation, it's up to each person to have their own feelings and free to express their own thoughts about it,not from these reviews, until you been in their hospital to experience the treatment.

Dr. Glass was beligerant, demeaning, condensending, did not know how to do a basic orthopedic exam, caused more pain than when we came in. They said he's a "floater doctor". What is that??? Probably learned some of his bad doctor ways from another ER doctor at Baptist - Dr. Scott Johnson. UMC is turning out some terrible doctors these days.

Good doctors

Dr. Almand, Dr. Leduff and their team did a great job with my husband’s surgery. Shout out to the 6th floor nursing and OT/PT staff for incredible aftercare.

My wife was in your Hospital today and you guys treated her as if she is nothing. She had to stay in one of your rooms for 11am to 8pm and they didn't even give her no solution or attended to her as if she was human.. What kind of Lazy Professional and so called unprofessional are you guys... You not Professional at all. You guys are just unprofessional kids that were packed in that hospital... You don't know what Emagency is. It's so unfair.. You called yourself doctors but you can detect what was wrong with my wife.. This is so crazy and unprofessional.

I was pricked with a needle SEVEN times. If you can not do your job properly, find someone who can. Nurse practitioner was VERY rude. I just ripped the IV out of my arm and left. I will never trust these incompetent fools with my life again.

I originally deleted a post I started about radiology tech Kyle Thomas and his racist ways with an employee at Donut Palace because I saw that the hospital fired him from this. However, looking down the many years of reviews here I noticed a history of racism towards their patients. Go elsewhere, do not support racist businesses and organizations! Make them suffer until they learn that EVERYONE is equal

Wanda Eady

Dr. Johnson did not do an examination - only blood work and lied and said it looked fine. Sent my daughter home and later we had to go to a real hospital for treatment and accurate diagnosis. Nurse Lacy, you were totally worthless. Thanks for nothing. Absolutely nothing.

kelly gerber

What do I like about it? None! Because the Triage Nurse is rude, keep huffing and puffing when she ask questions! And after they put me in the examine room Im in severe pain waited AN and HALF for a Doctor! And now I'm still in here for another hour waiting for my medicine.. Bottom line is this is not an emergency it's a lounge and The NURSES? Very rude! Don't know how to smile and make us feel comfortable Oh LAWD!

Linda Hollingsworth

We spent 2 weeks here with my Dad from ER through hospice. Exceptional and caring Doctors, nursing staff and breathing therapists provided wonderful care.

UPDATE: A representative from Baptist Hospital Outpatient Radiology reached out to me today to clarify and apologize. In an effort to be fair, I am therefore deleting my review. He did say it was their policy to move a visually contagious person out of the Radiology Waiting Area. It is also important to note, you may be told your appointment is say "1:30PM" by your referring physicians office, when actually that's the time you're expected to sign in at Radiology for a "2:00PM" appointment. You're always asked to be there 30 minutes early.

Sarah Milversted

The worst hospital and most unpleasant experience I have ever had. This is more with dealing with the back end when it comes to them filing the claim and bill to my insurance. For some reason a dummy entered my member ID incorrectly. We have called the billing department 3 TIMES trying to get this resolved they put a 9 instead of the number being a 7. Each time we call to correct that number they still bill the insurance with a 9 and wrong ID number. The representatives told me that this would not be sent to collections until Resolved well I know just got sent to collections. I have NEVER been sent to collections ever. Also representative are very very RUDE and try not to help you. IF you ask for a supervisor they hang up. WHAT TYPE OF PATIENT CARE IS THIS!!!!! Horrible. I'm sure there are others that have experienced my same level of frustration.

Devonte Stewart

This is the slowest emergency room I’ve ever been to. I sat in there 6 1/2 hours. NEVER AGAIN! I would not recommend this hospital

I was left with a raging tobacco habit for more than 24 hours. And when my patience was worn out because my doctor was to lazy to sign a piece of paper I went outside to the curb in my hospital gown and had a cigarette or to. The next morning he approved my patch and then refused to see me as a patient because I smoked a cigarette. Totally unprofessional and they didn’t even treat me for what I was in the hospital for!

The hospital is one of the best facilities around. It has a nice easy to navigate campus in the heart of Jackson that houses a caring staff of professionals ready to serve all who come into it's halls.

They don't answer their phones!!! Their billing system is messed up. I was sent to a collection agency and never received a bill from them!

Worse hospital I have ever been too...Dr george is the worst Dr I've ever delt with...to me he is not even a real Dr.

My uncle received poor treatment by the nurse he was assigned. His nurse Nikki, on the 3rd floor, did not show any concern when I informed her that my uncle's stomach was swollen. This is something she should have noticed on her own with him being of small stature. She pretended as if she would scan his stomach to see if his bladder was emptying but she never came back. Another nurse came in to do the scan and found that the content in his bladder was above what the machine could measure. She inserted a catheter which relieved some of his discomfort. I was really thankful to the 2nd nurse but his nurse should have been the one to take care of him. This is very disturbing and poor care. We will go to UMC next time!
