Pathetic. Come in thru er, no parking within walking distance and forced to use valet? Does it get anymore shady? But as the gentleman at the valet desk so kindly said, they get you every direction and hes got to get paid too. Classic

My mom is screaming in pain and the bills are high but all the doctors are just recommending Tylenol and Ibuprofen. This hospital sucks.

My wife had surgery and care was excellent, staff efficient and friendly.

This is our second visit here and we were hoping it would go better. In March 2019 my husband underwent a heart surgery, and ended up having a stroke during the procedure. They didn't find it for TWO DAYS. Then we got roomed with a very loud and obnoxious roommate during recovery. I told the nurses many times that my husband needed a room to himself to recover...as he went through two huge operations and the roommate was there for something minor and it was not planned well. Now we come up here again for a follow-up procedure, and my vehicle got STOLEN FROM THE VALET PARKING STRUCTURE. I am at a complete and total loss. We drove over 4 hours to come here and will never be coming back. Communication between departments is horrible. Thankfully for us, most of the individual people are great, but something has to be done about security and communication.

I can’t really comment on the care here as I haven’t been admitted but the parking is ridiculously expensive. The ramp is 2 blocks away and you’re not getting your car for less than $8. Since you don’t go to a hospital because you want to, this is pretty unfair. Taking the train or Lyft or Uber if you live close is probably cheaper.

UMMC IS A DEATH HOSPITAL. THE DOCTORS DEVALUE PEOPLE OF COLOR AT THIS HOSPITAL AS WELL AS THE NURSES, PATIENT RELATIONS, ICU MANAGERS, AND OVERALL HEAD OF THE HOSPITAL. NOT TO MENTION THEY DO NOT VALUE HUMAN LIFE PERIOD AT THIS HOSPITAL. THE FLOOR MY LOVED ONE WAS ON WAS THE DEATH FLOOR AND NO ONE LEFT THAT FLOOR AT LEAST NOT ALIVE. THE SAD THING IS IF THE STAFF KNOWS YOU HAVE A TERMINAL ILLNESS THEY TREAT YOU LIKE YOUR NOT HUMAN, LIKE YOU DON’T LIKE THEY PRETTY MUCH DON’T HAVE TO TEND TO YOU ANYMORE OR ACKNOWLEDGE EVEN IF YOU NEED HELP OR NEED TO BE CHANGE.THERE ARE MANY ILLEGAL PRACTICES GOING ON AT UMMC ONE IMPORTANT BEING THEY WILL NOT REVIVE A PATIENT THAT HAS IN THEIR FILE THEY WANT TO BE REVIVED NO MATTER WHAT. I KNOW FOR A FACT THEY DO NOT ABIDE BY LEGAL DOCUMENTS OR THE REQUESTS FROM A PATIENT. THEY ALSO TRY TO SNEAK UNNECESSARY PROCEDURES OR MEDS BEHIND THE LOVED ONES BACKS. THEY TRY TO GET SICK PATIENTS TO DO SURGERIES THEY DON’T NEED, BUT REFUSE TO THE SURGERIES THAT THEY DO NEED. THEY LIE TO THE PATIENTS AND FAMILY MEMBERS AND EVEN TRY TO BULLY THEM INTO DOING PROCEDURES OR APPROVING NEW MEDS WITHOUT GIVING INFO ON THEM. THEY STEAL AT THIS HOSPITAL MY LOVED ONE HAD SEVERAL THINGS GO MISSING IN HIS ROOM IN THE COURSE OF HIS HOSPITAL STAY, I ALSO HAD AN ITEM GO MISSING AS WELL.THEY SLACK AT WASHING PATIENTS UP AND CHANGING PATIENTS, AND IF YOU REPORT THE NURSES THEY SIMPLY LIE, THE NURSES TOLD AN OUTRAGEOUS LIE CLAIMING WE DIDN’T WANT HIM TO BE CHANGED. ALSO THE NURSES AND DOCTORS SEDATE PATIENTS SO THEY DON'T HAVE TO DEAL WITH THEM. MY LOVED ONE, TOLD US HE WAS BEING TREATED LIKE HE WAS NOTHING, THE PLACE FELT LIKE A PRISON AND THAT HE DIDN’T FEEL SAFE AND WANTED US TO CALL THE COPS. WE TRIED TO GET HIM TRANSFERRED AND UMMC LIED CLAIMED THAT THE OTHER HOSPITALS TURNED HIM DOWN, BUT AFTER THE FACT WE DISCOVERED THEY NEVER CONTACTED OTHER HOSPITALS. ON TOP OF THAT THEY TRY TO BULLY AND THREATEN MY LOVED THAT WAS TRYING TO FIGHT FOR MY SICK LOVED ONE'S RIGHTS, MAKING FALSE CLAIMS AGAINST THEM SAYING THEY WERE BEING AGGRESSIVE AND ANGRY PRETTY MUCH THROWING OUT RACIAL STEREOTYPES, LIKE I SAID THIS PLACE IS RACIST, AND TRY TO THREATEN THEM, BECAUSE THEY WERE TRYING TO PROTECT MY SICK LOVED ONE FROM BAD NURSES AND DOCTORS. THE HEAD OF THE HOSPITAL, THE ICU MANAGER AND THE HOSPITAL STAND BY AND BEHIND EVIL ACTS, ILLEGAL ACTS, MALPRACTICE, ETC. AND THAT GOES FOR PATIENT RELATIONS BECAUSE THE REPORTS WERE MADE THROUGH THEM. DO NOT TRUST THIS HOSPITAL ESPECIALLY IF YOU ARE A PERSON OF COLOR, THEY ARE RACIST AND INTENTIONALLY WON’T OFFER THE BEST CARE, MY LOVED ONE HAD ORGAN ISSUES AND THEY NEVER OFFERED TRANSPLANT OPTIONS OR ANYTHING, THEY LIED ABOUT WHAT CAUSED CERTAIN ORGAN ISSUES, AND EVEN TRIED TO KEEP INFECTIONS THAT HE GOT FROM US. NOT TO MENTION HE DIDN’T FEEL SAFE, HE WAS SICK AND VULNERABLE, HE HAD AN ISSUE BREATHING AND THEY WERE ALL AWARE OF IT, ON ONE OCCASSION HE WAS HAVING TROUBLING BREATHING HE HAD TO USE EVERYTHING HE HAD IN HIM TO SCREAM FOR HELP AND HE WAS SCREAMING FOR LIKE 15MINS, THE NURSE WAS INCOMPETENT, NO DOCTOR CAME DOWN TO CHECK ON HIM AND BY THE TIME SOMEONE CAME DOWN TO DO AN X-RAY HE PASSED OUT FROM NOT BEING ABLE TO BREATH AND CODED, HE SURVIVED THAT ORDEAL, UMMC PUT HIM THROUGH THE SAME ORDEAL TIME AND TIME AGAIN. HE HAD A HISTORY OF CODES AND THEY STUCK IN A ROOM THAT WAS TUCKED AWAY IN THE CORNER, WITH TWO DOORS, YOU HAD TO WALK THROUGH TWO DOORS TO GET INTO HIS ROOM. THESE PEOPLE DIDN’T CARE.THEY CLAIMED THEY DIDN’T KNOW WHAT WAS WRONG AND WHY HE KEPT HAVING TROUBLE BREATHING, BUT IT WASN’T UNTIL IT WAS TOO LATE THEY SAY ITS IS LUNGS WHICH THEY KNEW IT ALL ALONG BECAUSE THEY WERE LOOKING AT HIS LUNGS EVERY OTHER DAY. HE COULD GOTTEN A TRANSPLANT PLUS THERE WAS MEDICATION THAT COULD HAVE IMPROVED HIS ISSUE.THEY WERE PUNISHING HIM BECAUSE WE COMPLAINED ABOUT THERE NURSES AND DOCTORS. HE ULTIMATELY PAID THE PRICE. THEY DIDN’T EVEN TRIED TO CALL LOVED ONES WHEN HE WAS GETTING WORSE, THEY SIMPLY CALLED AFTER HE PASSED, AND THERE’S NO EXCUSE BECAUSE THEY DIDN’T EVEN TRY TO REVIVE HIM.

It's the most unfamily friendly place I have ever been. Parking is unbelievably expensive especially when you have to come everyday. And the construction just compounds all the stress.

Hanna Brolander

I have been sitting here for two hours. Not only have they let other people go before me who are in CONSIDERABLY better shape than I, they haven't let me know anything about when I might be seen. I will NEVER come back here again.

Waited over 3 hours to actually get pain medication. Terrible emergency room experience

If you want the best, this hospital is for you. My experience with the doctors, nurses, right on down to housekeeping was first rate. Everyone was helpful, friendly, and kind. The professionals of the cardiology department most likely saved my life for which I will always be grateful.

What happened to my husband on 8/14/2018 is appalling to say the least. He was transferred from the V.A. on 8/8/2018 had surgery on the 9th. Did okay, but was bleeding from his catheter. Told the nurse, who said it was from being straight cathed 5 times. I knew better than that. But whatever, had an ultrasound on Monday, not ONE doctor came in to explain anything to us the whole day. They said he was scheduled for surgery on the 14th, I asked what time, they said it was based on the severity of the patient. I spent every day with him, from morning to night. By the time I got there on Tuesday they had already taken him to surgery. I didn't get to see him before that. He did make it out of surgery. Then the circus began, he had to go to the bathroom, they had him on a bed pan that he couldn't use. They got him a comode to use. He did, got him into bed and he couldn't breathe and was sweating. I was moved out of his room, and he went into cardiac arrest. I knew he had passed away as every fiber of me went with him. I told them to let him go, but NO instead the nurse he had pushed me out of the way, they worked on him for 12 minutes to get a pulse, REALLY! They then moved him to I.C.U. pumped 14 units of blood and platelets into him. It came out every outlet on him, eyes nose, ears, and where they went in for surgery. Then said I'm sorry there is nothing more we can do for him! He did pass. It's no consolation for me to have lost my best friend and husband. It's the PTSD I have been going through. To add to this NO one from the V.A to the U gave us a diagnosis! NOT ONE! I would not go to either place ever! Only one nurse on 5A over the weekend was wonderful. I can't get through my days, the pain in my heart hurts so bad for what he had to go through. It was unnecessary, and NO one deserves to die this way. I talked to them, and NEVER got an answer! I will continue to call! Like a bad coin.

Pamela Sundeen

Every time my wait has been at least 1/2 over. I drive from Duluth so timing is very important to this northerner. U make an appointment 4 months out and a few days before they change the time. Not happy. But they don’t care we are at their mercy

My mom is on the oncology floor and has been for a week. The doctors and nurses have been wonderful which is why there are 2 stars instead of 1. I have walked past SEVERAL people who work at the hospital and NO ONE told us anything about my daughter not being allowed to be there because she’s 9 months old. Normally I wouldn’t bring her but considering that my mom is battling a rare and aggressive form of cancer I wanted to give her time to see her grand daughter. However a lady, I wish I would have gotten her name, very rudely told us we needed to leave because of our daughter. We have seen kids running up and down the halls screaming and playing everyday we have been there and nobody forced them to leave. My daughter was quietly playing on her blanket in the family lounge. She was actually making the other patients and their families smile. But now I can’t be with my dying mother because 1 person on a power trip decided that my family wasn’t allowed to be together during this difficult time.

I sat for 3 hours in the hallway with my tibia exposed. The doctor stitched me up on a gurney in the hallway. The staff is excellent, unfortunately they are overwhelmed with addicts seeking drugs. I sat in a wheelchair in a hallway with a huge gash in my leg while I listened to people try to get meds for toothaches and headaches. We need to give staff the authority remove these people to clear space for real emergencies. My bandage fell off in the parking lot.

I met the smartest doctor in the emergency room at University of Minnesota Medical Center. Dr. Crosby was her name. She is very intelligent and serious about caring for human beings. I'd give her ten stars if I could. She is saving lives! ❤

The amount of pain & suffering our family has been through due to the lack of monitoring on the Doctors end at this hospital is sickening. My brother was emitted last week for surgery to replace his drain tube on his shunt. Prior to surgery, we asked if they needed to replace the shunt as well since they were already opening up his head & they said it depends how it looks. The doctor made the decision to not replace the shunt & just replace the drain tube. This was something we could not control, tho we suggested it be replaced if it needed to be since they were already opening him up & it had been 9 years since they put this shunt in. He stayed in the hospital for a little over 48 hours & then was released. We asked if they were sure he could go home & were they sure his shunt was operating properly, the doctor assured us his shunt was fine & he could be released. 7 days later we are back, he's in emergency surgery now to replace his shunt, after waiting in excruciating pain for hours to be seen due to the lack of Doctors available! This second surgery, additional scar, emotional trauma, additional hospital bills ALL could've been prevented had the doctor scanned & monitored him after the tube replacement surgery. Doctors need to SLOW down and start caring more about these patients. They are patients to them, but they are family & everything to us! We are submitting a patient abuse claim because the lack of monitoring & decision making on your Doctors end. Looking at your reviews, i'd say the patient abuse is fairly common at this hospital.... how sad.

My experience as a patient seemed pretty similar to the Zach Braff TV show "Scrubs".

Mitchell Aplikowski

The staff are abusive towards patients. I had severe diarrhea from an allergic reaction and instead of letting me go to the bathroom, they literally sat me down on the bed in order to take my vital signs (which clearly could've waited). I had to barge my way through a crowd of doctors and nurses blocking my way just to be able to go the bathroom. I absolutely will not be coming back to this hospital in the near future if this is what doctors think is best for their patients.

Nov. 2018, do not try emergency entrance, constantly blocked as it's shared with the world's most understaffed and slowest valet service ever. Overall, I feel the facility is dirty and overcrowded. Most nursing staff have too many patients leading to 15-30minutes before they answer call button. Some nurses are great, others need to find a new career. The heart surgeon was one of the best, but is leaving for Houston soon. Overall, I do not recommend.

Patient Relations is an absolute joke. Unless you're in an ICU (which are great), you're a number. Public bathrooms are filthy.

I have been blessed to be treated with incredible friendliness, attentiveness, professionalism, and senses of humor by the wonderful valets, receptionists, techs, nurses, P.A.s, and doctors at the University of Minnesota over the past few months. Every day I walk in smiling because I know I'm in the best hands and am greeted with the warmest smiles. They've become such an important part of my life and I can't say enough good things about them. This says a lot because I'm not a big fan of traditional medicine. I am so thankful for the wonderful radiation oncology team. They have given me the best care and have always done it with a smile and genuine concern for my health. My oncologist, Dr. Lee, and P.A. Dawn Jenniges, are the sweetest people, so knowledgeable, and don't practice the typical assembly-line care. That makes a huge difference, especially for people who may be facing terminal or very serious cancers. They are the epitome of "good bedside manner." They never rushed our visits. It's been fun getting to know them. My radiation techs and physicists are so friendly and sincere. Rob, John, and Kristin greeted me warmly and explained everything on my first day and Kristin and Ethan have been with me almost every day since. They are phenomenal! Tony, Liz, Anne, Kate, Laura, Kaylen, and Sheila have been wonderful, too. I'm going to miss them all. Stacy and Aleeta are the receptionists and have been stellar since day one. I always looked forward to their smiling faces and sweet personalities each morning. Even the valets there are amazing (I'm especially going to miss seeing Casey and Gaylon!). I can't say enough good things about everyone there and I'm so thankful to have top-notch medical care so close to home. Over the past 6 weeks, I've gotten to know them all very well and they've been with me through what could have been a very difficult part of my life. I am blessed beyond measure!!! THANK YOU to everyone there for being so wonderful. I'm going to miss you and hope that the next time we meet won't be a scheduled appointment. :)

This place is a DEATH hospital as someone else mentioned it too. Staff are not friendly at all which is not the worst thing about this place. The doctors are horrible, patients are just numbers to them. There are so many students doing very critical procedures on the patients. They treat patients like laboratory rats. The doctors change every couple of days with a dozen of new students each time. It's horrible. They do not care about the patient's life at all. Try to avoid this place, there are other hospitals in the area.

Friendly ,knowledgeable staff.nursing and doctors. Any Delays were reasonable .it is a complex process involving many disciplines and the communication between teams seems good although improvements can always be made. Food service was good, easy to use. Food itself is probably a step ahead of similar operations. Thanks to all for their help during my stay.

Amazing care. Every nurse and doctor was fantastic about walking through the procedure and providing care. Would highly recommend.

If I could give six stars I would! My daughter was brought to a local hospital minutes from our home and was diagnosed with salmonella. After three days of treatment in the hospital (severe case), she did not get better. We drove our sick teenager to the U of M and after much testing discovered that the salmonella had reached her pancreas (rare case) and it could be fatal. The doctors and nursing staff were amazing. After another three days at the U of M, and being treated with the proper antibiotics, she is now home, feeling 120 percent better. A shout out to the 7th floor 7C wing! The nurses were outstanding and the many doctors (Mustapha, Gruessmen, Rote, etc) were extraordinary. They took the time to care for our daughter. That's rare today. We left blessed!

I am probably being over generous with 2 stars. I’m not going to list every stupid little and not so little thing that happened to me in my 24 hour stay, I’ll just give heads up. Most Nurses seem confused. Confused on like how to hook up IVs or give meds. If you need help going to bathroom or getting dressed or anything, don’t bother pushing the nurse buzzer because if you wait the length of time for someone to show up you will probably soil yourself or die from IV airline blockage. The level of either incompetence, mismanagement, sheer laziness or all 3 is beyond belief

I went to the urgent care after having a panic attack. When asked if I was pregnant, I said no. Shortly after, my blood was drawn. The nurse had me tested to see if I was pregnant. I was never asked for consent nor did I sign any forms giving it. This hospital made me feel violated. This experience taught me in the future, to explicitly state that no tests without my prior authorization and consent can be performed. Last i checked, it's my blood, not the hospitals to test for a condition or disease without my consent. I understand that they are there to help people. However that is no right to to openly deceive a patient. It's unfortunate this hospital chooses to run this way.

The doctor just came in and said, your son is legally blind and any further attempts at glasses etc would be a waste of money. This was the FIRST time hearing anything was majorly wrong with our son's vision. I cannot believe the lack of regard for my family's feelings. You put your trust in the individuals of the health care systems and I've never been more let down in my life. My wife is sobbing in the back seat on our 2 hour ride home. Maybe there should be a course on empathy for all of the staff at this hospital, but then again you can't really learn that, can you? Makes me wonder what kind of people are hired at this disgrace for an institution. Disgusted.

We've been waiting for hours in the emergency room with a cut 2 inch cut in the head. When we first got here we sat down in the lobby and got blood over a pillow and who knows what else. We asked for a sandwich twice because it's midnight now and still haven't eaten dinner.

I was at UMMC, emergency room for a possible broken nose. I waited an hour in the actual emergency room to see a doctor, no surprise. Not broken the Dr. Said. Dr also said he would have a techie come in a clean up the blood ext. In the mean time a few minutes later a office person came in an took my insurance info. I then waited over an hour and and a half for a techie to come in and do a simple alcohol swab cleanup which would have only took a couple minutes. I finally got up walked to the emergency room bathroom an cleaned up the blood my self an walked out. In the mean time my mother was recovering from major surgery at UMMC hospital. She her nurse was doing some private care for her in her room so i was waiting outside her door. During this time a man across the hallway rang for a nurse twice in a 5 minute time period. I also overheard the patient say he needed to use the bedpan. There where at least 3 nurse i could here at the nurse station and they where gossiping during this entire 5 minute period while this man patient was waiting for a bed pan after they told them they would be right in.

Wow, has this place gone down hill. I’m here right now. They are not taking the recommendation of my Physical Theerapist and moving me from outpatient to inpatient so I can get in-house physical therapy. They will be sending me home, knowing I’m in not safe condition. I can’t get answers to why. They are seriously understaffed in the nursing area. A three hour wait in emergency is normal. The pencil pushers far removed from the patient won’t talk to the patient. They won’t listen to the doctors, nurses or therapists and the staff works against the patients true need. They pigeon hole people. I highly recommend, after coming here over 50 years to avoid this place. BTW they have stupid policies such as only sugar free pop which is bad for many people and children. I am beyond disgusted at my once reliable hospital. Seemingly run by Millennials or people who believe people’s health and care is not as important as money

Best hospital not even lying, I was in and out Of doctors office's while for 2-3 months. From doctors to Drawing blood- to my pysch giving me sleeping pills. Last Monday my mom and I left my pychiatrist office and we got an appointment here The next day. Then I was diagnosed with a rare diease called chorea movements it's now Thursday and I'm getting better day by day. The staff was amazing too, always smiling I'm 16. I hate people. But the views out the Windows are amazing

I give 5 stars based on the few doctors and nurses that took the time to listen to me. Dr Nziwe W Ntaba needs to be recognized. I spent months in and out of the ER. (ER doctors were getting frustrated with me. I could tell based on rudeness). All my test would came back normal but I kept feeling worse. He took the time to look past my tests and listened to my symptoms. He called a cardiologist team down and they ordered me a stress test. I was emitted for further test because all my echos, ekgs where all normal. But I failed the stress test. The further testing reveiled I had moderate pressure and fluid in my heart. It was starting to stiffen. Dr Dziwbe W Ntaba saved my life. I had a miral valve replacement July 28 2017. If I never got these test my heart would have continued to harden because my test always showed it was normal. Durning my 9 days in the hospital my cardiologist team was awesome and got me answers. I had 3 nurses that really went the extra mile for me. Kelsey and Erica and a gentlemen I can’t remember his name. I was in room 507 on 6 C These 3 nurses are not your average nurses. They took the time to build relationships with me. They truly love their job and patients. You can feel their compassion. I really hope these wonderful people get recognition for their love and compassion for the patient.

I went into the Urgent Care clinic for extreme abdominal pain (it felt like my entire lower abdominal was contract with thousands of needles). Now I am not a one for hospitals so going to the ER was not my first choice. Upon arrival I was asked to fill out a form, then proceeded to wait in the waiting room for an hour. By the time I finally got to see a doctor the pain had subsided to a dull searing feeling. They took a urine sample, then failed the first blood test so I had to wait for the lab assistant to take my blood, and had two additional ultrasounds. After waiting in the room for an hour after my last test had been done I had to ask a nurse for the progress of what they were finding. By the end of my 6 hour wait I was told I "probably had a UTI, so we will give you these antibiotics. We need to do additional tests to make sure they are what you need. Continue to take them until you hear otherwise. We will call you in two days with more results.) I never received a call, and still suffer from the same periodic pains even after completing the antibiotics they gave me. Though the staff was very nice, being left in a room with no status update for hours, not being offered anything to eat, and having difficulties with many tests, to only get a potential solution was very disheartening; even harder to swallow was paying the $3,000 bill I received.

A few months back, I wrote a review of the ER at the University of Minnesota hospital. My review was the culmination of 6 months of anger over the mishaps and misdiagnoses by other hospitals, primarily North Memorial and Unity hospitals. I was justifiably angry because my spouse had endured 6 months of hell after a botched colonoscopy at North Memorial. The brilliant doctor perforated her pancreas, allowing Amylase and Lipase to flood her abdominal cavity for all those months. Instead of acknowledging the mistake, North Memorial said she was constipated and sent her home. She had no solid foods for six months. By the time we were referred to the University of Minnesota by the brilliant doctor, Paul Swan MD Internal Medicine, at Allina in Vadnais Heights, I was furious. I overreacted and took out my anger on the staff at the University of Minnesota in the ER. I was wrong and I apologise. Dr. Martin Freeman, Chief of Gastroenterology at the University of Minnesota saved her life. If not for his expertise, she would be gone. Dr. Freeman is one in a million and he's not too humble to tell you that himself. He's the best of the best and he has a colorful personality. So, I retract my previous post and ask that the University of Minnesota and their fine staff accept my apology for my derogatory review. When it's life or death, the only viable option is the University of Minnesota. Thank you for reading!

U of M is the worst hospital ever, it is a bad experience and no one should go through it, the doctors promise things that can’t be fufill, they promised my grandma good care and will recover but she died within 2 weeks of going there. If you are a patient that goes to u of m, please think twice they aren’t a good hospital, and this is my rating for here and other websites I’m waiting. They’re not a good hospital.

I was hoping for a better experience this 2nd time coming to the U of M Medical. 1st time my husband and I was here, we were there to see a neurologist. But that doctor didn't care to look at my husband's profile. Instead, he took out a scrap paper and made us explain everything as to why we were there. He made my husband draw swirls and forced him to try and run. His final conclusion was "everything you're going thru is all in your mind. Just get some pain meds for the pain." And he just sent us off! He didn't do anything to really help us. He didn't truly evaluation my husband. Because of that doctor's note, the Mayo clinic turned us down. My recent visit was yesterday. I went to check in, ONLY to find out that SOMEONE CANCELLED my appointment and didn't even bother to notify me! I wasted my time driving all the way there and wasted money for parking! I wish I never chose this place to go with for my transplant evaluations. I highly DO NOT recommend this place to anyone.

I give two stars because the special requests about privacy I made was well respected through and through. -1 Star, wrong diagnosis and released when things weren’t improved. -1 for the fact that I parked at the closest ramp and it ended up being an U of M ramp that they could not discount so upon leaving the hospital after a 5 day stay had to pay $50 for parking. Wasn’t looking for free parking but discounted would’ve been nice. When you look for parking, make sure to look for more than U of M (look for hospital) Also there was a point when I stood at the nurse station and was ignored for a solid 1-2 mins (doesn’t sound long but when there’s 4 nurses behind the desk and two behind me standing and conversing with each other, it had me upset). Since I was trying to get a vomit bag and time was of the essence I tapped my fingers on the desk while I waited for someone to acknowledge me. Once I was addressed, I was told to speak up next time. -1 Star for this reason as well. Personal opinion- the ER entrance looks like a spirit airlines makeshift airport

Frank Ondrey, MD, Ph.D. did the surgery on my husband after he was diagnosed with Stage 4, advanced, metastatic head & neck cancer. We give him, his nurse Andrelle, Lucy Reinhardt C-NP, and the radiation staff high marks. They saved his life. As far as the hospital and ER, we tend to agree with some of the lesser ratings. As with everywhere, there was good and bad care. The ER was definitely the worst. Without, Dr. Ondrey and the team of cancer caregivers, my husband wouldn't be here now. He's 4 1/2 years cancer free!

Where is patient confidentiality when you are sharing a room with another sick patient and they can hear all your concerns, medical problems and history? Sounds like a law suit to me.

Very attentive staff. They put pressure on my blood vessel for over an hour, taking turns until it stopped bleeding.

My father passed away there friday night. We were told our funeral home would be notified. They were not. My father was at the eyebank wtg for eye donation, which we never gave permission. Funeral home has finally found him and will be bringing him home. So

I spent a couple nights some night shift employees are not friendly or not doing their job well because I call nursing and they hung up

No sleep. They put patients with significant needs with patients who don’t. Moved rooms in middle of night multiple times as result of roommates having emergency situations. I came here as part of centralizing care within a system. Won’t come here again or follow up in their clinics. BAD DELIVERY MODEL. MANAGEMENT IS ASLEEP AT SWITCH FOR NOT RECOGNIZING.

The thoracic surgery team needs to spend time working on bedside manner and basic principles of patient care. after receiving false information from a surgical resident that the surgery could be done bilaterally, I decided to proceed with the blebectomy and pleurodesis. Although the surgery went well, the post-operative care I received from the thoracic department was dreadful. I tried to leave AMA but was unable to secure a transfer to HCMC. Particularly heinous was my one interaction with Dr. Madhuri Rau, a thoracic surgeon. She and SIX surgical residents came into my room while I was still experiencing severe pain despite having a dilaudid PCA. I tried to explain to her that I once had a chest tube that was slightly misplaced and, once it was adjusted one or two millimeters, I experienced total relief. She told me that the X-ray (which gives an extremely limited view of soft tissue) looked fine and refused to adjust the chest tube. She said I was experiencing nerve pain and she wanted to completely change my pain management regimen. I told her that I worked with a doctor on the night shift to formulate a plan I was comfortable with, and Rau responded with “that plan is out the window because that was an intern working last night”. When I asked if she knew who was working with me last night, Rau responded that she did not and got defensive, saying that this is her expertise. The overnight doctor was NOT an intern, as i later discovered. Nonetheless, despite expressing my concern for the side effects of the four different medications Rau wanted to prescribe me, I finally caved and took them. Unsurprisingly, my “nerve pain” only subsided when the chest tube was removed. To add injury to insult, Rau prescribed me Gabapentin without telling me, a patient with a history of depression and anxiety, that Gabapentin has a black box warning for suicide risks. After our encounter, Rau and/or the residents reported me to psychiatry. Although I was offended and the psychiatrist literally told me he didn’t understand why I was referred, he was incredibly helpful in helping coordinate my care. There may be some good practitioners (AMAZING nursing staff) here but if you need thoracic surgery and don’t want to be treated like total garbage, I recommend going elsewhere.

I came to this Hospital about a week ago and words can't express how awesome the staff on the 5th floor treats their patients. I was very pleased and if I get sick again I am definitely coming back to this Hospital thank you so much. My urologist works at this Hospital so I weren't here because I have kidney problems and found out that one of my kidneys was in fact infected. I stayed for 5 days but it was totally worth it. Steph was my nurse and she was so sweet and caring. These nurses and doctors really know how to treat people. I will definitely be coming back in the future. Please pass on my thanks to everyone who cared for me. God bless you all:)

In early August, 2015, my friend brought herself to the ER at this hospital in severe pain and she was not only accused of being a drug seeker, but she was treated incredibly unkindly. She left in tears. This woman has been suffering from an undiagnosed illness for 2.5 years which has taken her across the country seeking help from various hospitals. Later this same week the University of Minnesota Hospital finally gave her a diagnosis; chronic pancreatitis. To the attending and team on duty that night, look it up. Next time maybe you won't make assumptions based on your cynicism and perhaps you will treat the next "drug seeker" with a minimum of dignity and kindness. "Do no harm", remember?

Experience here is fantastic. You get a combination of professionalism, caring and knowledgeable staff who goes out of their way to make you feel comfortable. It's organized very well, too. The whole U medical center is located near each other no matter which building you need to go to.

Doctor O'Neal is the worst.. she doesn't listen to the patient and she didn't treat my problems, I was in pain for nearly 3 hours before she offered me something that I couldn't take. I asked for something different and she flat out told me no. If you ever need to go to this er I recommend you don't get Dr O'Neal

Dirty.run down decapitated mold infested building. Doctors are good e.r. nurses are hit and miss as to being proactive in care. This place will board you in e.r. for more than day waiting for a bed. Nurse staff is always short handed you can wait up to 35 min without. This patient is here monthly so it is not a one time fluke. Separate building and staff run by Fairview. Doctors are from u of mn two separate entities trying to administer health care while both parties can't even sign an agreement together. U of mn hospital should own and run it as if it were part of the U.All other Fairview facilities are normally clean modern and up to date not this big pile of vile you claim to be a hospital.Im embarrassed to tell people my wife goes has to go to this cesspool. In hindsight we should have chosen the mayo or elsewhere the one certain thing you will leave your hospital with a new infection of some sort. Now your trying to remodel and put a band aid on a building that needs to be replaced. response

Always the best treatment, service, and care!!!!
