The nurse practitioner we saw at clinic was great, and as worried as we were about my mom's stroke symptoms...unfortunately sent back to the ER to once again to have OBVIOUS stroke sx dismissed. The Dr. said she had 2 CT scans that were negative, so an MRI was not warranted. Sent home twice with meds. to bring down BP. She is now in Sioux Falls being cared for properly and having further testing that should have been done here!!!!

If I could give a zero I would. Dismissed my family members symptoms when her condition was life threatening (stroke). Wouldn’t admit her because they wouldn’t get paid by Medicare. Care more about making money than saving lives.

My experience with Avera is poor response to medication refills and often the wrong medicine is called in. Forget CPAP supplies those clowns are even worse.

very poor care from Dr. Didn't address problem we went in for and just brushed her off. Didn't even come and tell us about lab results. Nurse was excellent!!

Can I post negative stars? I went in to the ER before work on Feb 1, 2019 for stomach pains I figured were from having been constipated recently. The incompetent physician that saw me decided to do blood work and it came back with elevated troponin isotope I, which resulted in me being sent by ambulance to the Heart Hospital in Sioux Falls (even though I stated I didn't feel that bad and didn't have anyone that would be able to pick me up from Sioux Falls), 2 days of missed work, and over $3500 in expenses (after insurance)...oh, and the Cardiologist immediately told me it wasn't my heart (But, while you are here...) and that they don't know why that isotope of Troponin was tested as it frequently gives false positives. After 24 hours in the hospital, a myriad of tests, I got the laxative I needed and was released. Fast forward to March 6, 2019...still haven't seen a bill (because I was planning to dispute it) and I receive a conference call with several representatives of Avera Marshall and the Physician that saw me...apparently the lab equipment was malfunctioning the day I was at the ER and the fail-safe to indicate a malfunction was broken...my troponin was fine. I was given an email contact to forward the related bills and expenses to, but they also put holds on accounts so bills didn't generate.... Fast forward again to April...I have now threatened to file a law suit as I am not get responses to how this will be resolved. Finally I am able to send copies of my insurance EOBs and expenses. The mailed copy I sent 4/5/19 "never arrived" so I hand delivered a copy on 4/23. That took 2 days to get to my contact in the hospital. She actually responded to an email of mine and stated she would go through the expenses that day or the next day. It's now been almost a week, I'm finally receiving bills and now collection calls on the bills. My contact told me she "expected answers last Friday but hasn't gotten them". At this point, I have emailed the CEO of Avera Marshall and if I don't have a resolution by Friday I'm filing a lawsuit. Moral of this story - if I actually thought there was something wrong with me, I would drive to Sioux Falls or the Twin Cities for care and risk dying along the way instead of going to Avera Marshall. Follow up... the CEO promptly has responded to my email and if she resolves this I may have to add a star.

Have had repeated negative interactions and poor service here. Staff have been very rude and unsympathetic

Only two stars because the emergency room doctors always treat me like a drug addict when I’ve never abused them or anything of the sort. Always dismiss my symptoms. The OB/GYN doctors are not on the same page with my care and I hate that when I go in to labor and delivery I rarely ever even see a doctor as they can check things on their computer at home. It’s ridiculous. I hate how I must have the oncall OB and never my usual OB. I chose my OB for my care not the other ones. Was lied to twice when I had painful preterm contractions that I’d get pain relief and then when I asked both times was told the doctor changed her mind. Some nurses lied in my chart saying I didn’t care about the pregnancy anymore so now that’s stuck in there as I turned in the paperwork to get it amended to be correct and was told it wouldn’t happen. Unfortunately ACMC has already done damage to my health and AVERA is one of the last options in my area and I don’t have a choice to choose someone who can and will appropriately address and care for my health issues and needs. My OB is wonderful but that is all I can say that is positive...

Very rarely do I have a pleasant experience with them . I’ve been bring my son there for the past couple months and the front desk service is absolutely terrible. EXTREMELY RUDE. Even when scheduling an appointment I’m made to feel like I’m inconveniencing them. Unacceptable.

I did my clinical at this place and had the WORSE experience ever!!! They don't embrace cultural diversity and the preceptor did not want to be followed much less the responsibility of being a preceptor.

Too many negatives to list. The most recent one involved the ER doctor. I came in with a nosebleed that needed packing. He inserted the rhino rocket wrong and kept trying to shove it in. He got it in as deep as he could (over halfway) and inflated it. Excruciating pain, and it ended up sliding out over the next day. Those should stay in for 3 days, but he said to have it removed after 24 hrs. Needless to say it bled again, and when I had an actual ENT doctors fix me (in Sioux Falls) correctly, they commented that my nasal cavity was bruised and raw. Gee, I wonder why.

The ER staff that worked with us was attentive, courteous and competent. They listened, took action and found solutions. The phlebotomist, however, had an odd personality that was difficult to endure. We were happy when he had completed his tasks and left the room. His comments were out of line for a professional in that field.
