REVIEWS OF Brigham and Women's Hospital IN Massachusetts

Amanda Rose

Horrible hospital!! You are only treated as a number and there is no concern for anyone’s feelings. They rush you in and rush you out, unless THEY are running behind. If you care about your loved ones don’t go here for anything!!

Dawn S

My father was brought to Brigham and Women's after a low speed motorcycle accident. Due to a brain bleed. Unfortunately after the initial care we felt almost forgot. Several times he was suppose to have diagnostic testing which was pushed back DAYS because of other emergencies. No one kept you appraised of delays. My family wanted to speak with a doctor, as we hadn't seen one in 3 days and a resident was sent down who was unable to answer any questions.

Good hospital. Keep in mind traffic on Brookline ave is really heavy at times

Raymond Bullock, Sr.

I've been a patient of BWH for many years and they have always given me the very best care I wouldn't go to any other hospital for my care at all.

In the running for worst customer service in Massachusetts! Tried to call the Parking and Valet hotline. Two numbers are listed on their website. One number doesn't pick up. The other number says "Due to the high volume of calls, we can answer your parking questions at our office." It always says this. It never says anything else, suggesting they've given up on answering the calls altogether. So I call the main hospital line. Get to an operator eventually and ask to speak to Parking and Valet services. I get transferred to the same number which is the same automated recording telling me to come in person. So I call back, explain to an operator that I'm looking to buy, as a gift, a parking pass for my aunt whose husband is in ICU. She transfers me to a line that sounded like a dial-up connecting to the internet in 1993. It eventually hung up on me. All told, twenty minutes of my day was lost. What a pathetic attempt at customer service.

After several gastrologists on the North Shore who always seemed too busy to see me and schedules appointment 6+ months out (often to be canceled at the last moment and reschedules), I never though I’d have proper treatment for my severe Ulcerative Colitis! Even after being in a local hospital for a week to get it under control and told to see my gastrologist right away, I still couldn’t get an appointment for 6 months! Because of that, I gave up and just dealt with being sick and in pain a lot for over a year and a half. However, I was reading a piece online about Brigham and Woman’s work with Crohn’s and Colitis and something about a very good Dr. I figured if my local Dr couldn’t spare the time to treat me or return calls, there was no way a Big, Famous Hospital in Boston would ever fit someone in with a disability on Mass health. But I wrote to Dr Jessica Allegretti anyway and told her my situation. To my surprise, a week after I sent my letter, someone on her team said she told them to call me and get me in! A week after that I had an appointment at Brigham and Woman’s with Dr Jessica Allegretti! Treatments started right away covering several areas related to my UC that no one else even checked! I’m feeling far better now, less than 2 months after starting to go to Brigham and Woman’s, than I have in the last 2 ½ to 3 years since I was diagnosed with UC from a local Dr. Dr Jessica Allegretti and her team at Brigham and Woman’s Hospital accomplished more in 6 weeks of caring, compassion, honesty, their knowledge and expertise than several Gastrologists and Dr’s could here in nearly 3 years! Everyone at Brigham and Woman’s is kind, compassionate, always makes sure you are comfortable, easy to talk to, speaks to you in regular talk explaining everything and, best of all, THEY KNOW WHAT THEY ARE DOING! What a difference a talented, caring and compassionate team and hospital make!! THANK YOU Dr Jessica Allegretti and EVERYONE at Brigham and Woman’s Hospital!!

Wow I can honestly say these doctors care about you and your health. I had a ectopic pregnancy surgery yesterday they made sure I wasn't in so much pain, they treated me like their own child. Just the sweetest people ever the nurses helped me use the bathroom and gave me the upmost respect! They saved my life!

Maria victoria Alvarez

Very dedicated doctors, great service.

Brien Durkee

The medical services provided here are amazing. Such a diverse group of doctors in one place, collaberating to work on such complex issues as Cancer. Great Job from the Nurses on up to the Doctors.

Tina Pentikis

The people who work here suck on guiding you as to where to go. Go to this floor. You go and then it’s “nope you have to go to this other floor”. Then it’s “ you have to check in with that person”.

Wei Chen

Waited 30 minutes for an appointment call. Scheduler sounded like I owned her money. And then simply hanged up on me. What kind of people work here? This was the heart center. Maybe their manager can identify that scheduler and help her find meaning in life.

Informed consent is not a word in this hospital's vocabulary.I been here twice for preventative care, and received unexpected charges excess of $300 both times. I felt like a cash cow, not a person. The first time, I was in for an annual checkup. The doctor pressed on my stomach; when I mentioned discomfort, she pressed a few times more. The hospital $500 gave me a charge because it "deviated from the standard procedure". That was never communicated. The second time, I came in for a gardasil shot and received a bill for "new patient visit" even though I've visited before. These people are in the business of making money, not providing care.

Elisabete Miranda

I appreciate all the Tretment Team God Bless everyone .

I had the worst experiance in this hospital with Dr. Kibel’s and his staff. They never followed up for important, immediate appointments, and made their calls only after my several messages and complains... The doctor’s team did not send us informational paperwork before biopsy , which was not professional and medically wrong answers, like “patient can eat before biopsy”. I am not a doctor, but I know, that before anesthesia it is not allowed to eat or drink ... They don’t send pharmacy orders for prescribed medications and make patients call them several times... They scheduled WRONG BIOPSY - and they could done wrong procedure if Ididn’t catch that... I looked on website to see, if there were any paperwork and I saw only scheduled Biopsy without any descriptions. When I looked on treatment related questions, I noticed, that all questions were about different health problem. I contacted to their office again for verification... Then they confirmed, that it was an error... I am very disappointed and desided to not trust this organization...

Helen Bodel

Our daughter was born at Brigham and Women's, a wonderful hospital, filled with smart, careful staff. Plus, the steak dinner we were served in our room afterwards--in the quiet of post-delivery joy--hit the spot!

Dimeilyn Perez

Great doctors great staff & great food, BUT a cealing tile fell on me while I was pregnant inside a patient room, they swept it under the rug like nothing happened. I’ve sent letters out regarding my concerns & no response

Cristian Aguilar

I love these place because ever since I started to work there I gotten to know lots of people.

Barbara Sweet

Dr. Sugarbaker operated on me on November 7, 2012. I would not be here today without the expertise of this man. Today, August 3, 2013 I ran my first 5k since my surgery. I ran a 37:13 5k.. For some it is not a good time, for as extensive as my surgery was, I praise God for putting Brigham and Women's Hospital and Dr. Sugarbaker in my pathway. Thank you for taking such good care of me.

Carrie Johnson

Wasn't happy having my baby delivered here. Waited hours before I was given a bed when I went into labor. They didn't have enough beds and couldn't give me anything for pain until there was a bed. Two doctors forced us to do a c-section even though we were against it! They doctor the report to validate a fake reason to our insurance company. This is one of the most aggressive, unethical and apathetic care centers to give birth in. Nurses are cold and rude. Doctors are passive and slow. Everyone is unorganized and nobody knows how to use their internal communication software called Epic. This means that no informationnis relayed to doctors or new nurses taking over the shift of another. The worst, worst hospital for giving birth or getting a breast biopsy. The results are rigged for profit!

jills fight

DON'T go here! The only doctoring done is of documents. Playground for med students. Horrid place.

Jeffrey Karp

The most incredible hospital on the planet! It's supportive on all levels and a wonderful place to conduct high impact medical research. I am very proud to affiliate with and have a home within the Brigham and Women's Hospital.

Ellen Duchene

Gynecologic Oncology - they are FANTASTIC. Dr. Sarah Feldman & Dr. Colleen Feltmate are compassionate, very knowledgeable and thorough. Even the nurses & medical assistant are great! Everyone is very friendly and helpful! Will be having hysterectomy in January & I feel VERY confident in my surgeon, Dr. Feltmate. I would highly recommend this department & honestly this entire hospital to anyone! They are known as one of the top medical facilities in the nation & they live up to it!!

MARK HAMILL

They saved my life. Super attentive, extremely thorough. They follow through with after care too. My only complaint was the beds suck.

Amanda Rose

Horrible hospital!! You are only treated as a number and there is no concern for anyone’s feelings. They rush you in and rush you out, unless THEY are running behind. If you care about your loved ones don’t go here for anything!!

Norris Knight

Excellent service staff was warm and kind, top notch service and professionalism thank you for taking good care of my wife and newborn

Robert Anna

They did an excellent job unplugging my Nana's blocked salivary gland. It's good to finally see her spitting like her old self again!

Sue Chabot

Thought they were good at first until pain meds are rapidly taken away. They went through my groin to gain access to my heart. Even before I left I had problems in that area which they said should be go away. Well now it’s rock hard size of a tennis ball. Severe pain. But all the want to do is let me suffer. Surgery was done 6 weeks ago.

sayra hernandez

One of the top greatest hospital I've been to. My grandfather has been here since saturday and I can say the service here is great. The way he has been treated is awesome from the nurses to the doctors. The nurses at the emergency room were awesome even asked us If we needed anything to let them know. Nurses at the ICU have treated my grandfather with so much care. I highly recommend this hospital

Burton Rubin

At 75 Francis St. trying to locate day surgery center. The signs directing you do not exist. They have one sign then you’re on your own. Fix the problem.

Karen MK

I had read some comments here thought they were lying. But I did witness myself. ''4 hours waiting ''. Walk in emergency room. For me it was bad because after that my service wasn't that nice. I felt so bad because it been my best ..

Mary Nedder

My husband had a very sudden 90% hearing loss in one ear over a period of less than an hour. He has spent the last 48 hours trying to see his audiologist. Guess what it never happened, there is a large problem with communication in this practice. Now my husband has to wait the weekend. On Monday he will have an Audiogram but still no Doctor visit. I think its absurd that he can't get an appointment for an emergency problem. I really didn't want to give even one star but I couldn't post without it.

Dmitry B

Waited for 6 hours in the emergency room with acute abdominal pain and all other symptoms of appendicitis. One of the nurses admitted that despite the symptoms they assigned a medium priority because, I quote, "the age is on your side". When I asked what would happen if the appendix ruptured right there in the waiting room, they assured me that then they would help. My sister is a doctor and she was shocked to hear that nobody bothered to confirm the symptoms for 6 hours. I blame myself for picking this hospital and also for trying to be a hero and driving there myself.

Patricia Mcsween

Not enough words to express my feeling I have all my healthcare at B&W for years never had a problem that is the only place for me God bless all my healthcare worker you are all winners

Andrew Johnson

Why knock a place that saves lives.

Wassim Lahlou

this is the worse Hospital There is no equal opportunity its all about who you know I have been apply for about 150 job opening wish I'm qualified for without even interview very bad reputation for this hospital.

Worst medical experience ever. Most condescending and arrogant people I have ever met and I have been in sales for 30+ years so I have met some real winners. Dr Bueno was rude and spoke to me like I was an uneducated bum. Complete disrespect. Complete disregard for my time or situation. Prices for basic services that were beyond absurd. The MRI and two other tests cost in excess of $10,800 and my local facility would have charged less than half. They are still doing "follow up" work and billing me hundreds of dollars even after I have made it clear that are no longer authorized to to ANYTHING for me. I believe that senior citizens should be tested for driving skills after age 60... Doctors should be tested for COMPASSION as well. If they were... Bueno and Sugarbaker would be taking orders at a burger joint.

Derrick ONeal

There the best at everything they do....

Solo Slayer

Absolutely horrible! Multiple medical mistakes. Admitted ANOTHER patient as my husband. Did not do blood draw correctly, causing an incorrect change in meds. Refused to move a chemo patient with a compromised immune system Out of a shared room with a VERY ill patient. And the BIGGEST.... admitted another patient under my husbands name !!!! The experience almost seems like we are on a candid camera show .

Owen Croce

The doctors and nurses were so friendly and really helped me through my heart surgery.

aaron maxim

Phenomenal hospital....anyone complaining about " waiting" is just dumb. #1 you don't want a medical team rushing to conclusions and making a quick decision about your health...not a good idea. #2 You are one of many people with medical concerns....relax and let them do their jobs. Its a top notch hospital not a dunkin drive through.

Pamela Watson

I've had nothing short of top notch medical care . I'm fortunate to reside 30 min away.

Philip Pham

Great teaching hospital. Currently working here as a PCA and I love the nurses. Many of them are very willing to teach you! All the physicians are very well-trained and knowledgable. Can't wait to see where this road leads me :)

Ching-Ting Pi

Big hospital.

Ronda Hodge

Top notch nurses & support staff. Everyone works hard for the patient and even family/visitors are treated well. We also enjoy the food.

AinsleyRose S

Absolutely amazing hospital. Nurses and staff have gone above and beyond to care for my mother. Hands down one of the best hospitals I've ever encountered.

Joshua Everett

From intake at the ER through my surgery with Neuro to my recovery, I couldn't recommend BWH more. My surgeon and his team were exceptional as were the nurses in recovery. Thanks BWH!

Come here if you want the best healthcare

Anna Karaski

Without a doubt one of the best hospitals in the nation. This hospital has a repuation for being the best of the best for a reason. All of the staff is not only knowledgeable but compassionate and caring. An example to all other hospitals. This is what all hospitals should look and operate like. And the Havard interns are amazing and the best of the best. I went here honestly knowing nothing about the hospital not being from New England and only ended up there because it is where the ambulance took me. I didnt know anthing about it. I was admitted after an emergency situation and stayed about a month. The level of care and compassion I received from every level of employee and intern was amazing. Even down to the kind ladies who work in the cafeteria and even the compassionate houskeeping staff. Every single employee and intern is a compassionate, caring professional. Just outstanding and easily all 5 stars.

Chip ryan S

Partners Healthcare/brigham and women's employees people like Frank bramante who literally mentally abuses staff, it's because of this I wouldn't recommend going to the hospital cuz God knows the duress that doctors and nurses are under due to their staff managers

Shirlee McDaniel-Hockey

This is the worse experience of my life... The lack of treatment for my mother has put her on her death bed.. She was admitted on the 21 th of May, I begged them to feed my mom but they refused stating she wasn't going to get nutrition since they could not fix the problem , today is June 10th and mom hadn't received any nutrition, she needs a blood transfusion and Dr Scirica has refused saying it wouldn't fix her problems.. My heart is broken.. I am my mother's health care proxy yet every request I made to fulfill my mothers wishes was denied. They have made all the decisions.. They have denied me the right to follow my mother's wishes... My mother entrusted me to follow her medical wishes and my hands were tied. My mother needed dialysis and we were told she would get a trial for 4-5 days.. they gave her 3 types of diuretics still maintaining if they didnt work then they would try dialysis... we were told if needed they would do dialysis over the weekend that they would monitor her and if she could wait they would prefer to do a permanent line on the following Tuesday... 4 days later we were told that we shouldn't have been told that. We were lied to by Nephrology .. we were given information that prevented us from going elsewhere. If they were upfront with us , we would have made the decision to take her to another hospital that could have done a dialysis treatment. Instead, we were not given the opportunity to take her somewhere else that would have allowed us to honor her wishes. Since she was intubated and on fentanayl ...We could not transfer out.. I wish I was able to get my mom elsewhere. Sadly, no matter who we pleaded with our requests were denied. They have tied our hands.. my poor mother was denied nutrition and a transfusion , treatments that could have helped her body recoup, all because this TEAM felt she wouldn't benefit long term. Their thoughts were there was too many things wrong so why try to fix something if they cant fix everything. Obviously , in their care, her life wasnt worth saving. However, to us , a life , any life is worth saving even if it would have given that patient more time. Doctors are suppose to save lives... not decide who will live and who they will let die. These doctors should have taken the chance to save my mom instead of relying on their statistics and data.. if they would have tried treatments I requested as her health proxy maybe she would have been able to gain more strength but instead they deprived her from everything and expected her to heal on her own...I am sick to my stomach.. I feel by not allowing me the right to honor my mothers requests they have violated my mothers rights. Every single doctor and most nurses keep telling us she was going to die... That is all we heard daily even when we requested they not keep telling us that over and over.. We have had some great nurses such as Juliet, Kim and Nancy and we have had some very NASTY and unkind ones.. We had a nurse in the icu Cathy who fabricated a story after my sister tried to protect my mothers head.. word got out to the other nurses and immediately we had attitudes from other nurses.. and because we dared complain about them not treating my mother woth dignity we were blackballed! Some nurses would pop in by the door, introduce themselves and tell us to buzz if we needed them, but they failed to do an assessment of my mother.. My mother was treated like a corpse... My experience Will NEVER be forgotten.. We have filed a grievence but the time that they took from us with our mom can never be given back.. Now I will have to live with the regret of not being able to fulfill my mothers wishes as her health proxy... she trusted me to make the decisions for her and they stripped that right from me as well. She came in with an ulcer that was a stage1-2 and is now a stage 4 and additional breakdown .... My heart will never mend from this experience... They will continue to cover each other... They NEVER tried to save my mom.. She transferred here for care and received a death sentence.

My dad had esophageal cancer, he had surgery and the Dr was 100% fabulous!! I couldn't have asked for better care for my dad!! My dad was not the best patient, and the Dr.'s and nurses and other staff were great!! I would highly recommend BWH to anyone who wants and needs great care!! They are awesome!!

Hagob Sarkissian

Very good hospital. One off the best around the USA.

I had cardiac ablation at BWH. Excellent care before, during, and after the procedure. Top notch cardiologist Dr Stevenson!

Cafe staff and food need a major makeover... Medical team is the best. How can these two exist in the same organization????

Nicole Hudson

Nursing staff F-! Unreal experience! Relative was here and treated badly. The nurses are very rude. NO EMPATHY! NO COMPASSION! I wouldn't take my enemy to this hospital.

Blitz0

It is absolutely ridiculous that EVERY SINGLE TIME I come to an appointment at the post renal transplant clinic they are ALWAYS an hour behind. It's awful and the front desk staff are not polite they are annoyed when you ask questions. People work it's the reason we come early. Then you try to reschedule and they give you an appt ages away.

cutekittenf

Worst place ever to work if you are a minority and who has a degree. They are okay if you are housekeeping, patient care tech, or secretary. If you are a Respiratory Therpist,Nurse, Doctor, or any other professional careers, you will be treated unfairly. A better place to work would be Mass General Hospital.

joann Agosto

The doctors are great! No complaints on that. Keeping The rooms clean is horrible!!! I feel like they should have someone come in at least 3 times a day. Keeping the rooms & bathrooms clean is a must! But apparently the cleaners don't see it that way.

Mayra Carrasquillo

Base on my experience this day on March 14, 2018, The service I received from the emergency department it was amazing, They really took care of me fast and also pinpointed my issue, I am very grateful & happy with my result, Thank you Emergency medical Staff.

I scheduled my appointment over the phone with an orthopedic surgeon Dr. Andrew Simpson for my lumbar fracture. The secretary did not tell me I needed to bring discs of my MRI and X-ray images. The secretary also did not tell me they booked me for an X-ray before my appointment with Dr. Simpson. (If they had, we would have had a conversation about my images and I would have known to bring them.) When I arrived for my appointment, Dr. Simpson would not see me because I didn’t have the images on a disc. I brought the MRI and X-ray reports. I’m extremely disappointed. I took time off work and traveled for this appointment, and I would expect a hospital secretary to know to tell patients these images would be required when a patient schedules an appointment. Now I will wait 10 more days to be seen for my fracture.

Shirley Marcin

Highly recommend this hospital for any surgery you might need. Our daughter had a hysterectomy and the pre-op and post-op care that she received was top notch.

Random

BWH needs to do a better job with new customers. I've been transferred four times and it feels like no one wants to take care of the new patients. They said they aren't adding new patients at the main hospital and all the other outside hospitals have a two to three month waiting time. That time frame is not acceptable.

Fisnik Hasani

Best Hospital in world no comment Thank you for service

Frank Atter

Fantastic Doctor. She is very competent and cares for her patients.

Altagracia Pena

Thank you so much to Mary Berry she was an excellent nurse when delivering my baby very passionate and faithful person, thanks to Katerina a nurse that is here working very nice! Other than that rooms need to be clean and the nurses for after delivery need to be more human, they should be remained that there are a lot of new time moms and baby who need things explained for the rapid care

Big hospital. I would not recommend having a baby here. You are treated like a number. Becoming a city hospital. My doctor was always absent going to conferences. Had to see her assistant could not answer questions. When doctor is absent most people don't show up for there appointment would rather wait for doctor to come back. Doctor only have 5 minutes to spend with you.

Dana-Farber initially for my Cancer Care between Dana-Farber and Brigham's and Women's Hospital I received the worst care ever the doctors are extremely too sophisticated to deal with it more urban community the workers are extremely ghetto long fingernails they do not speak to you appropriately I have to go to chemotherapy with one of my clients cuz I work for a drug counseling service my client was with me they treated me like I was in heroin addict wrap my arms up treated me like I was just a problem when I call to speak to his hospital staff hospital staff was no better I then spoke to her and she said well do you think you may have been having a bad day like really lady I wouldn't recommend this hospital for any Urban member of the community to go to they treat you extremely different if you have MassHealth you will not be treated like everyone one else avoid this hospital by all means necessary

I cannot believe the complaining people do--seriously, do you think you would do better at home on your own? No. My experience with BWH is very good, and I think the problem is people expect far too much. Hospitals do the best they can, and you can blame, politicians, lawyers, etc. for the troubles most of them experience. I must say, I found the 1-star post about the horrible labor and delivery and end of sex life at 29 hilarious!! I can only assume it was a joke.

HeungJae Chang

The best service our family has ever gotten

Chrissy Konczeski

In the last 10 months my mother has spent quite a bit of time here. Our most recent inpatient was a horrible mismatch of care and communication that led to her fracturing her hip while with an aide and walker. She had never been a fall risk. They pushed her out to rehab as a non-walker less than 48 hours post surgery and 5 hours post catheter. Never bothered to verify that rehab had medical equipment she needed or the ability to give same meds. VERY unprofessional!

Amy Tracy

I have lost all faith in medical community. Doctors just want to study you and once they have written their papers they no longer help you. Its very sad and this place is supposedly the best.

Russ Dexter

Can't say enough good things about this hospital. My wife saw her doctor due to some bleeding. This was followed by a biopsy and then a total hysterectomy. Everyone was very nice, efficient, and caring. She recovered from the operation much quicker than she could imagine. At the same time my brother-in-law collapsed while driving and after tests at his local hospital was rushed in to the Brigham for a heart bypass. He and his family praised everyone at the hospital and I can personally say that his room was the quietest, most spacious and comfortable hospital room I've seen.

Patti E

From the Er nurse Donna answering all our questions about my daughter and her meds and what test they were doing most of the time when you have someone in ER nurses and drs ignore you not here Donna made sure she answered our questions and the drs. The nurses Amy, Ryan, and many more on the 9th floor C . To the Drs that help me understand my daughters bleeds and her passing. At 37 my daughter was a person to all of them not just a patient. Thank you all for you kindness and help.

1/4/2017 I smashed the back of my head onto the roadway at 6:30 AM a few days ago when I slipped flat-out from six-foot-four straight down, skull to pavement, under a little thin patch of ice, under a light dusting of snow. I probably should have gone to an Emergency Department right away, but no, tough guy as I am I found my truck and drove. Later, thoroughly and clearly warned that I may have internal bleeding (in my head!) I waited a few days and went to my primary care physician instead. That was yesterday, Tuesday. After a complete check-up it was determined that I need a head CT and a neck CT and I need to see a concussion specialist ASAP. Considering I could be bleeding inside my skull I figured that getting some imagery stat was the most important thing. Partially slurred speech, increasing dizziness, slower motor skills, a spinning room combined with a statement that I was 45 years older than my wife, were not indications that seeing a confusion specialist was the top priority. No. To see if my brain was bleeding seemed to be the best call. So what happened next? The schedulers at my PCP asked me if I had EATEN! I said, "Yes, I ate some food one hour ago". Actually I had forced myself to eat some cold meat and potato as I sat in my truck before I came in for this appointment. Then they told me that they cannot let me proceed as protocol states the pt cannot eat for at least two hours prior to the CT. I call my wife, a physician, on my cell as I stood there with people in the line behind me and I addressed my wife as 'doctor'. I told her of the situation and she said that they're wrong and that the stomach has nothing to do with whether or not there is bleeding in the brain. "The objective is to see if you have bleeding inside your head! Whether you ate or did not eat has NOTHING to be with finding out whether or not your brain is bleeding" I am likely mis-quoting but I was pissed. They heard one side of the conversation and yet there was no positive action taken. "The rules are the rules" was their posture. Pissed and pushing I was then put on the schedule for this morning at 11AM, one more day later. But if my brain is bleeding from a fall last Friday and I'm trying to get in for a CT on Monday would it not make sense for someone to get me in ASAP? Why is it taking until Wednesday? I'm upset and not feeling well. The dizziness has increased. I say things that are not clear. To recall things properly takes more effort and seems confused when presented. Writing this without spellchecker function would look much different. Writing here is taken a very long time and taken much effort. I fell on the ice-- not BWH. I get that. But as a group of physicians I feel my care should have been taken more seriously. I am going to call my insurance provider and drop BWH today. After I hit POST here I will write to the doctor and state the same. I am sorry but I cannot continue with such a broken system that allows this to happen. I should have been seen asap by the CT people! It takes 40-60 minutes to get there. I need a CT scan for my health. One person in the office told me, "We need to make sure we're going to be reimbursed by the insurance company before we send you for CT, administer any further services. That is not medicine. That's running a business showing concern toward efficiency.

This hospital sadly does not live up to its reputation. I am shocked at the "lack of knowledge and expertise" the doctor I saw had! Dr Nyugen in the vascular dept should not be practicing medicine at such a prestigious hospital....probably one of the worst and most unhelpful doctors I have ever seen! Not to mention he misdiagnosed me which could have lead to deadly consequences. Never again will I go there:(

I would NOT recommend having Neuropsychological testing at the Brigham. They charged me and my insurance almost 6k for several hours of testing. According to my insurance co., they do this at their hospital rather than an outpatient clinic and consequently they can bill MUCH higher as it is at the hospital. I would always recommend asking about out of pocket expenses first (mine was over 2k for this test, which I elected to have and initiated to rule out ADHD). Lesson learned.

I went in with a chest cold, shortness of breath and chest pain and though the EMT that brought me in treated me like I did not need to be taken in to the ER, the staff that evening went out of their way to be friendly to me and seemed to really enjoy their jobs. They took my complaints seriously and were careful about making sure everything was ok with my heart and lungs before I left. They had put in an IV and after a couple of hours I felt great - I didn't even have symptoms of a chest cold any more. Obviously, I was quite dehydrated, which exacerbated the chest cold and the effects of the 93 degree heat. The staff also handled me quickly, which I greatly appreciated. Hands down the best hospital experience I think I've ever had.

Laury Brown

Big hospital. I would not recommend having a baby here. You are treated like a number. Becoming a city hospital. My doctor was always absent going to conferences. Had to see her assistant could not answer questions. When doctor is absent most people don't show up for there appointment would rather wait for doctor to come back. Doctor only have 5 minutes to spend with you.

Josh Berube

Joke of a place, Dr. Yorday likes to give out medicine because the text book says so. I was given medication that I “didn’t have to take” and the other script was 4 times the dose he could have given me. He also thought it was funny that I might see things such as people in my blind spot after my stroke they can’t explain at 26. He laughed with a coworker as his buddy said don’t worry they won’t hurt you. I was ready to jump out of my chair but I have to keep my job which apparently is impossible to get in contact with these people if you work. They call every day at work and I work construction, yet I take time out of my day to answer the calls yet no can hear me but when I tell them they suck and I want another doctor all of a sudden their ears work. You also can’t call up and leave a message because they don’t have a voicemail set up, jokes on me considering the hours I’ve spent on the phone listening to that stupid saxophone waiting for someone to answer the phone.

I had a great experience there great Hospital great doctors great nurses and great staff

BWH Pathology Department is one of the most renowned around the globe. I can say, as a foreigner, that the hospital, overall, is excellent.

Katie Snow

Coming from a small town in Maine to such a big city hospital I was expecting my mother to be treated more like just another patient, rather than an actual person. The entire staff here treated her with such care and humility. What started out as a horrible, traumatic experience turned out to be not so bad.

Joel Colegrove

I have been to Brigham and Women's four times over the last 15 months; once for a stroke, once for a broken neck, once for ER, and once for an infectious disease. Quite simply I would have died if it were not for the expertise in care. I was lucky the doctors and the hospital were rated the top five in the world by US News & World Report. If not for these people and hospital this review would not be possible. I cannot say enough about this Hospital and partners Healthcare which they are part of.

Just had a terrible experience, went in and waited for 5 and a half hours. The nurses told me I had one issue while the discharge paper is saying it’s a totally different problem. When I called to see what is actually my diagnosis, I was transferred to atleast 5 different extensions because no one could give me an answer even tho I was just discharged 20 minuets ago. The last person they transferred me to was extremely rude and transferred me before I could even finish my sentence, and she not understanding the fact that I’m having anxiety due to the fact that they can’t tell me what my actual diagnosis is. Very confusing, anxiety provoking because I don’t know what’s wrong with me now and very very veryyy unprofessional. I could hear nurses talking ill of other patients, having side conversations about their personal lives with co workers while taking my vitals. The whole time I was scared thinking these people probably don’t know or care about what my real diagnosis is. If you care about your loved ones PLEASE DONT BRING THEM HERE

My husband received the best care in the ICU Cardiac Care. Nurses were unbelievably dedicated to getting my husband well. I cannot say enough about the nurses, doctors and staff.

Joel Naticchioni

Been coming here since my wife developed numerous health issues. These are some of the best and brightest medical personnel in the country if not the world.

Henry Du

I did use this hospital and affiliate services. I found it charged extremely high. Even if you are not a new patient, but it would charge you very high because you saw a new doctor. It the way US doctor and medical professions to make money or just this hospital? I think it is the hospital particularly.

Endoscopy center at Brigham is very bad, unorgonaized department.procedure should be done at 11:00 am arriving time by time10:00am they didn’t start the paper and Go to the procedure room till 3:00 pm. 5 hours waiting time and they say sorry if like sorry can buy people wasting time.

My care through a hip surgery was excellent from beginning to end. I went from a VAMC clinic in another state, to B&WH, for evaluation, then due to red tape, much later to have pre op, then finally surgery & post op, & every single bit of it was excellent. I fact, I am considering moving to Boston, because of my care there. I am a polytrauma veteran, with many physical limitations & financial constraints, so a move for me is a very difficult process, & there are many obstacles, but I will do it if I can because my care was so excellent.

Chicata Leon

Dr's are AMAZING! RN don't really care about the patient that's why I'm giving it a 3. I had a very bad experience in the two times that I was admitted to this hospital and was so scared to be alone that relatives had to stay with me to be on top of these nurses. You can push the nurse button all you want and they would not respond. My family had to personally walk to them to let them know I needed help. I hope they can make changes in this area and have the right staff of nurses that truly care for their patients.

Tiffany Sterge

Amazing hospital that provides first-class care. Won’t take my husband anywhere else

To the entire staff at Brigham and Women's Hospital, thank you from the bottom of my heart for the love and round the clock caring you gave my son Kevin.

Went to Emergency room at 11:30pm for 104fever and flu like symptoms. Waited for 2 hours, multiple people who came in an hour after me were taken in before me. After getting a bed the RN said she would do a flu swab only to come back with ibuprofen and anti-nausea medicine. About 30minutes later she said the doctor wants me to go home and that they didn't think it was the flu(meanwhile they never tested for it) Only a respiratory infection. After having left the hospital i went straight to Tufts Medical emergency room where they actually did a flu swab which tested positive for flu. Unless you are a pregnant woman, I would not recommend this hospital.

Very pleased with my dr everthing was right down to schedule appt x’s within minutes very clean hospital and quite rooms when u need the rest after surgery my only complaint was no one ever told me u order from a menu that was by the tv it was 24 hrs before I had anything to eat and yet the call in menu was all day and nite had some very tentative nurses

John Rudolf

We had 3 children delivered here including twins this week. Both deliveries were by scheduled C-Section (due to large babies and 2 prior C-Sections and gestational diabetes). From our appointments, ultrasounds and delivery we felt like we were getting the best care possible. The doctors are nothing short of brilliant. The scars from the C-Sections are practically invisible. We can’t thank the staff at BWH enough for helping bring 3 healthy children into our family.

I went to the dept. of ENT Otolaryngology for a middle ear procedure which went as planned with a wonderful, caring physician. This review is in relation to this physician's administrative office. I am to have a follow-up procedure in 6 months and have been trying to contact this office to schedule - no one ever answers the phone. I have tried for 5 weeks with about 25 requests/calls to no avail. If I did not need this additional surgery, I would be going elsewhere. It is beyond frustrating. Very very poor customer/patient service. If I were a new patient I would be running the other way......

KIPP'S HOT PLATEZ

Unbelievable experience yesterday here at Brighams and Women's. I honestly could not believe what I seen. I was with a relative who was being treated at Brighams and when I arrived that morning with my relative there was an African American woman who seemed distressed, on a hospital bed, in the hallway and not one medical professional seemed to be paying her any mind. By the time the afternoon came, the woman who I just mentioned was still on that same hospital bed with no privacy or anything and I can hear the nurses that were attending to her asking all these personal questions about her right there in the hall. My first thought was whoa, are they aware that they're violating her patient privacy rights? I knew more about the woman than I should have. An hour after that encounter this woman was still in the hospital bed in the hallway in distress. I say distress cause clearly from her body language she was in a lot of pain, she was crying and it seemed like all she wanted was some treatment for whatever was ailing her. Here comes the evening and my relative who was being treated at Brigham if that lady was still in the hallway? I took a gander and to my surprise there she was holding her adomen visually appearing to be in an excruciating amount of pain. My relative was given a room into the Brighams around 10am after visiting the ER. She had a bed after being there only an hour and when we arrived to her hospital room, that woman who was in the hallway was there before we got there. I'm assuming she reached the ER long before we got there too. As my relative was asking about the woman, finally with whatever strength that young lady had left she screamed out for the doctors and nurses to help her for she felt like her bladder was going to jump out of her body. It wasn't until the lady's call for help that I learned that her bladder had stopped working and she was asking for it to be emptied! They had that young woman in that hallway for over 8 hours with a blocked bladder. I thought that to be absolutely insane. If it were a child a child would never be subjected to wait any long amount of time for their bladder to be emptied. All they had to do was put a catheter into that young lady to give her comfort. That part alone isn't the only horrifying thing I witnessed. Shortly after the woman's distress call, Security was called on her! At Brighams and women! In all my years of having to come to this facility I have never seen such mistreatment done to a patient in that way or any way at Brighams. And all the time I was there, there was another patient who was also in the hallway assaulting the nurses and shout out obscenities! Security was never called on her at all. Surely whatever medical professionals they had working there should be investigated. I had to write this review for that woman to shine light on this situation. No patient should be mistreated when coming into Brighams for help. I hope that woman filed a complaint. I would be mortified if that were my relative in her position yesterday. This should never happen to anyone at any medical facility.

Cole Townsend

Honestly this place blows, they get you in quickly but it’s super slow. Was here admitted after 10 minutes only to see a nurse every 1-2 hours and got little to no help. Go elsewhere.

Pws MoneyIsMotive

Sad, I hand in my release of med records form. Give them a whole weekend and on Monday I ask if they have it they say no.. so I call to fix the issue. No help what so ever. Just transfer n transfer me over n over. Meanwhile I can't return too work till I fix this issue. WORSE CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER HAD!!!!

My mother fractured her pelvis at the age of 89. She was hospitalized in the ER and then moved into the main building, floor ten room 33. The staff and nurses took great care of her they were at her every beck and call. I am so very greatful for their care. Wonderful experience, excellent job team! Thank you very much, I really appreciate it.

If I could get negative stars I would. I worked as an EMT, occasionally in emergency departments and in the field as an EMT. Due to a lot of study and due to life and professional experiences and common sense there were at times, in the field, and at times in the ER, when I have diagnosed better than some ER doctors and ER staff but certainly not always. (For example: At a Different Smaller Hospital ER: I rushed my dad in for severe lower right quadrant pain. I diagnosed it as possible gallbladder liver problems and the ER Doc (different hospital) said it was only gas and asked us to leave with a somewhat know it all attitude. I therefore waited for his shift to be over and convinced the new ER Doc that it was not gas. Tests showed a gangrenous gall bladder requiring emergency surgery and two follow up surgeries. RE: the Brigham and Women's Hospital experience: My wife and I had a very similar strain of what appeared to be very severe cases of flu. We had spent a couple of days trying not to cough realizing it could get us to literally choke possibly to death if it got out of control despite taking somewhat effective over the counter meds. She was admitted to the B & W ER and was also dehydrated so the IV made sense but that was about it. Despite our protests, the ER staff insisted on several other exorbitantly expensive tests including but not limited to an EKG (despite protests insisting that she has passed EKG's before - routine physicals). Despite all these tests the ER staff never acknowled that this was probably just a severe case of the flu. They racked up an enormous bill for us and they came to the conclusion without any open mind or any other conclusions that it was simply a cold. In my experience I have never seen a cold at this level and both of us agree that we have never been so sick in our lives. After seeing how my wife was treated or in this case not treated, I refused to be seen. it will take us almost four years of monthly payments to pay this ridiculous waste of time and money for a wasted afternoon. In our opinion whatever you do go to another ER. We had no relief whatsoever from our symptoms and were sick for several more days. Despite having insurance this was in our opinions a medical and financial disaster like we have never witnessed before and hope to never experience again.

when i was admitted to this hospital under major pain, it really seemed as if it was a burden on the nurses on 14b they treated me very unprofessionally. I have notes from the best place i know of in the jen center green team. thanx 2 the people in the jen center green team i lett the unprofessional stuff on the 14th floor go. from check in @ the jen center to the lab to trina to dr ramani to michelle mathews. you guys make brigham and womens shine.however the nurses on the 14th floor need a education on how to treat patients and have a better bedside manner.

Maureen Mckenna

Deadly!! Ask Dr. Katherine Rose if she and her brother the assistant district attorney they are keeping secrets? Set an example!

Helen ODonnell

Dreadful place. They have made a ton of mistakes and none are cleared up yet. The more closely you loo, the more mistakes you find. It's a full-time job to try to get them cleared up. I was just reading my medical records and to my shock they say I was being injected with insulin!!! I don't have diabetes. I don't take insulin. My doctor said this could have been fatal. The medical history has been altered and now says I had an operation I never had, and a medical condition I have never been diagnosed with. The medical records completely contradict the stiry the BWH neurologist told me that I was never operated on or was given clot-bustinjg drugs. I don't understand why I can't just get a straight story from them. Anything they do say, they'll then deny later. I'd rather be dead than back here again. They've got nothing straight. I'm thinking now they musr have xed me me up with another patient . I don't think I'll ever get the truth, an answer, or any accountability from them. If you go there and have any problems, you'll never get an answer and you have no rights. I'd give them a negative rating if I could. Beware, they're going after rich and celebrity patients. If you're an ordinary person like me, you'll hsve no rights.

Brigham and Woman’s is a good hospital and the care is very very good here. However iam only giving one star because the outpatient physchatry dept on 221 Longwood ave which is a part of Brigham sucks!! I was seeing Dr Thrower and the 3 snow storms we had in March of this year 2018 I had to call 24 hours in advance and cancell my appointments because of the bad weather I was not going to drive in the blizzards so because her stupid airresponcible clinic stayed open in the blizzards and I couldn’t make it in to my appointments due to the weather she closed my case and discharged me of all departments to do that. She is a terrible doctor and I wouldn’t bring my dog to her. None of my other doctors would discharge their patients if they gave 24 hour notice and said I cannot make it in to my appointment because I do not want to drive in this weather. Dr Thrower is not a good doctor and if they try to schedule you with her say NO you would like another doctor. Other then that,, I have no problems with my other doctors on staff at BWH but Dr Thrower she is just a very bad doctor and she doesn’t have that much experience dealing with patients and has bad bedside manners.

We have lived in a few States in the past 50 years. We feel that many residents in Mass sometimes forget how lucky they are to have such 1st class hospitals like BWH in the world. My PCP and GI physicians were able to resolve my 25 years of GI problems with an older reliable meds in two visits. My Endocrinologist is able to control my blood sugar after 30 years of trial and error. My doctors call me to check up on me regularly if I start taking any new meds which seldom happens in other States. The staff are extremely professional. We are very grateful for what BWH has helped my family in short 2 years. Many Thanks!

While visiting a family member my husband and myself were deeply disturbed by our interactions with nurse Angela Walters, her interactions with a patient as well as with her coworkers. I can imagine her position being a very, very difficult job. However, this is YOUR profession. Many of your clients do not choose to be in the predicaments that they are in and are very dependent upon your care for them. It was frustrating to watch as she and the PCA (didn’t get her name) didn’t show any form of compassion while addressing the needs of her patient. It’s not too far off to say one her co-workers weren’t too satisfied with how she acted this particular day. As much as this is never acceptable, I truly hope she was just having an off day!

Natalie Palmer

Dr.Menard and his team are amazing. They saved my father-in-laws life when his anyuerism ruptured and he had a 1% chance of surviving. He was flown down from Maine. Dr. Menard performed a complicated 9 hour surgery and now, 6 months later, this 88 year old man is thriving. Most recently they repaired my husbands aortic aneurysm. The care, compassion and expertise are unparalleled. We are in awe! My one and only suggestion is that staff not use the 8th floor family room in the Shapiro Building as their personal lounge. It's for families. There were multiple staff members at various times loudly talking on their phones, watching soccer on their phones and I found this extremely inconsiderate. This is an area for families of patients right?!

I had Orthopedic surgery in January. Not only was my surgeon,Dr Kang able to remove all the discomfort and pain from my Spinal Stenosis, but the staff was so friendly and helpful it made me feel safe and secure. In addition, the procedures were wield executed

I was born there!

I asked three times if the procedure would cost me anything and they confirmed that it was covered by my insurance provider. Two months later I receive a bill for $230. When I called asking for the reasons, they told me that the test was covered, but the visit was not. The hospital did nothing to fix this misinformation. Beware they are just there for the money.

Delaney Bannister

Brigham and Women's shuffled me around, and then no one asked my about my insurance, which lead to my accruing a sizable medical debt. My story: I went to a regular checkup - which I would obviously have avoided had I been better informed of the consequences - in December. When I arrived to the Fish Center, I discovered that my PCP had changed offices to the main campus. They had left me a reminder for the appointment VM, which made no note of the change in address, but did contain the new address. I didn't notice because I've been going there for years. I ended up having to quickly drive to the new location and was late for my appointment. When I arrived in the office, no one asked me about my insurance, and I was flustered, so I forgot to mention I had a new healthcare plan. On the way out I waited while the front desk was busy until someone nonchalantly looked my way and said "Oh, you're free to go." A few months later, I received a large bill from Brigham because Tufts apparently no longer cover their services. Basically, I'm one of the ones who has fallen through the cracks in a complicated system. With a bit more attentiveness on the part of Brigham, I would have avoided the huge debt. All of this for a basic yearly checkup and a few blood tests that I didn't even want run, but my doctor recommended.

Beverly Pelland

Doctors won't share information with patients about what is wrong and course of action. They refuse to answer patient questions. Nurses and aids take too long, average 45 minutes, from the time you push the call button. The good service is horrible, and the food always made my mother sick. All you are is a paycheck you ARE NOT a person to that hospital! The only good part was the physical therapist Pete! If you have a choice DO NOT go here EVER!

Jessika Dunn

The staff will give you the best care you can receive and are very attentive to your diagnosis and helping with your recovery!

I was very nervous about my upcoming procedure but Dr. Worley and his surgical team put my fears at ease. They thoroughly explained each process- from registration, pre-op and anesthesia to recovery, they were knowledgeable and professional. Im SO glad I chose this hospital for my care.

Bill Chisholm

Dr. Peter Black, the Chief of Neurosurgery, known by many worldwide is a man who saves lives performing complex long surgical operations on a ndifferent patient each and everyday, both adult and pediatric. He removed 80% of my cancerous brain tumor and did what all would see as impossible. I am alive thanks to the doctors and researchers from the neurosurgery department at Brigham and Womens hospital and you can't put a price on that.
