I was seen Sunday for strep. The rapid test came back positive, so they didn't send the second swab to culture. Fwd Wednesday, none of my symptoms have gotten better so, per their instructions, I came back. New symptoms, still high fever. I have been sitting in a room for two hours, and no one has even checked on me.

Absolutely horrible!!! While this was a while ago, I gave birth to my daughter here. I believe one of the other nurses was also having a child at the same time, so I was chopped liver! At one point when my water broke, I felt a ton of pressure and called the nurses asking for my slippers so I could go to the restroom. (This was my first child so I didn’t know exactly how it felt.) A nurse came in, threw the slippers about 8 feet from the bed and walked out. I eventually got to the slippers on my own and made it just in time. When I let buzzed to let them know my water broke, I was 'overreacting' because it was no big deal. Every time I asked for something, I was either ignored or I was a total nuisance for them to deal with. I didn’t need them very often at all, and made SURE I didn’t need them since it was obvious they didn’t want to help anyway. I had back issues, so I didn’t want an epidural and went completely natural. I let out a little scream when my daughter first started to come out and the nurse screamed at me stating, “STOP! That’s not going to help anything!” I have seen where babies are immediately put on their mother’s chest after birth. However, when my daughter was born, because of the rushed nature of the situation and them wanting to get it over with, they immediately took her out of the room. I thought she had died or something so I asked if I could at least see her before she gets taken away. They rushed me through maybe 2 minutes of being with her, then took her away again. All in all, what was supposed to be one of life's most beautiful experiences, was absolutely horrible. I will never go back. Apparently they no longer have maternity services, maybe this is why, but I DEFINITELY have the correct location. This was years ago...

I have been to ER twice myself (one time lead to impatient stay) and a couple times with other people and the care has always been good the docs are thorough and nurses are caring and kind! Despite an older building the hospital is kept cleaned and maintained! Upon discharge I received a get well soon card that was signed by the staff! I would definitely recommend this place to anyone!

This is by FAR THE WORST HOSPITAL I've ever been to, I've been here 2 times total, and both doctors belittled me and we're extremely rude. (Mind you I do have insurance and great coverage at that) both times I've left extremely frustrated and ticked off. The nursing staff I had was great and showed they actually cared. Both doctors have come off completely arrogant and rude. I have a decent medical background (was a first responder a year and on my way to an EMT. I was only 20 clinical hours away from being an EMT and relocated for a better job) I told the first doctor what was wrong, from what I was told by the dentist, and she acted like I knew nothing and told me "you need to stop self diagnosing". I told her I had a severe infection from an impacted wisdom tooth, my face was super swollen and I couldn't drink anything let alone even eat. The second doctor basically lectured me for 5 minutes out of the 7 he saw me and acted like I was just a waste of his time. I went in for a Tick bite that has been swollen, irritated, and painful for almost two months. He told me I needed to go see my primary care physician and take some ibuprofen. And that this is an ER, not a clinic. Then proceeded to just walk out, laughing. This place is a JOKE, and I refuse to ever come back.

I took my four year daughter here for an accident that occurred at home. Our young dog who likes to play with her, had jumped on her back. She fell and cut her leg twice, with pants on. So this is the closest place to my,house and the pediatrician they go to is in the building. The er Doctor came in looked at it, and said it needs stitches. While standing there with her arms crossed, said to me your story doesn't add up with the wound so we are going to have you transferred to Childrens Mercy to have the child evaluated for child abuse. At this point, I was already upset my daughter had gotten hurt in the first place and then they accuse of such a ridiculous thing? After being being transferred the other Hospital was much nicer and Ss x,feel the same way about my story. I told them how rude the other place was and they said it's okay, I wouldn't bother with them anymore. Please don't waste your time with these rude doctors that aren't professional at all and don't understand that accidents happen sometimes. I plan on complaining to the hospital manager about this occurance. I wouldn't recommend this hospital to anyone, not even my dog!!

I would give half a star if could. The reason I am giving it such a low rating is because on the 21 September 2016 I went to the emergency room because I was having a miscarriage. The Dr. on duty was Dr. Elliott he was very rude me and my mother. He asked me a total of six times I had ever had an STD I told him no repeatedly. Then during my exam he asked me how many sexual partners I had in my entire lifetime. Then after he checked to see if my cervix was still closed and took a swab he then put his finger my vagina and asked me if that hurt. I said no, then he pushed my anus literally put his finger on the hole and pushed and asked if that hurt. I said no. Then We waited for over an hour for someone to tell us what was going on. We pushed the button the nurse and the she came in quickly however, when we asked if she would please find out she never came back. My mother when to ask for a status so see what was happening 45 minutes later then Dr. Elliott came in finally and was rude to my mom for asking what was taking so long. It was not the fact that it was taking so long it was the fact there was never any communication. the final hour we there we were waiting for the a rhogam shot I needed. It took so long that we were about to walk out when the head nurse came and took care of us. However, she had just got the paperwork that she needed for me to get the shot. An hour after Dr. Elliott said he submitted the paper. We were there for 6 hours with hardly any feedback. When we asked about how to make a complaint all we got was the run around. I called the hospital and was forwarded to the HR department. Nobody has returned my call. This was my first miscarriage and hopefully my last and being there at St. Johns made the experience even worse. When we finally got to leave at 12 am the next day I felt dirty. Do yourself a favor and go to St. Lukes.

Took my daughter into the ER thinking the worst. Two doctors and two nurses took amazing care of her. They ran several tests and drew blood. Thankfully she was fine and we were sent home with peace of mind. Best hospital in Leavenworth. Staff was caring and on it!

I took my son to the ER last night for mental health concerns. We waited over 6 hours to speak with a physician over a telehealth monitor, which kept lagging and cutting off. The ER physician was absolutely no help. They gave us referrals to places such as WIC and la lache programs. My son is 16 years old! They drew blood labs on him but we were NEVER explained the results. Worst place to take your child to in need of mental healthcare!!

I was seen in the ER a week ago. I went in with migraine symptoms. They took blood work & urinalysis, started IV fluid’s. Test came back normal. They gave me a Benadryl pill, & two other meds in IV. All it did was make me sleepy. I was in the ER a max of maybe 4 hours. The DR. discharge me, mind you I only seen him once when I first got there. He didn’t talk to me about being discharged, the RN’s did. The Nurses were nice. I went home and my condition worsened!! Three days later after missing work & the pain not going away, I went to see my primary care physician. My lungs were full of pneumonia!! I’ve never had pneumonia before, I was so scared. I couldn’t breathe & I thought I was dying. All it took was one chest x-ray that should’ve been done in the ER 4 days prior. This upset me very much!! The fact that the doctor didn’t do any extra test to see what was causing all of my symptoms, is very troubling. Don’t just turn and burn patients out the door. That’s how I felt, a number not a person. Never again!!!

They are rude and unconcerned about it. I have a child in th ER right at this minute and I’m sitting in the parking lot because in their words “only one person can visit at a time”. My wife is in the room with him now, but that’s my child, I’m not allowed to be in there with them? My child had a siezure, the parents should have a right to be in there. They are disgusting people who love to tell people what to do. It’s a power trip for sad pathetic people.

My granddaughter had a severe sore throat. It was 2:15 on a Saturday afternoon. Tried urgent care facilities, they were all closed. Had never used St. John's emergency room before. We went there and was amazed at the care, friendliness of the staff, the speed of seeing her and of course the treatment (2 shots). The receptionist, the nurse and the doctor were very caring and friendly. When the need arises for urgent medical care, St John's is wonderful. Thanks to staff!

I would not let this facility care for any animal, let alone a human being I was responsible for. My father was sent to this facility for almost a month following his stroke. The staff was rude and uncaring. Their answer for treatment of mental illness seemed to be MORE MEDICATION. I found that they would medicate my father and if he did not "behave" they would throw him in the shower late at night and spray him down. I also have documented pictures of large bruises all down his side. He complained that the night nurses would roll him out of bed onto the floor and not allow him to get up all night. I will celebrate when this pitiful excuse for a hospital gets exposed for what it really is and shut down for good

This has been the only ER hospital I've been to. The nurses and doctors are all nice! Not once was a nurse or doctor being "rude" to me.

Bj Hefflinger

My father has been admitted to their Senior Behavior Health ward twice now. He has dementia and needed his medication changed as it was no longer helping him. The hospital was not close to me or my family, but I did visit and called almost every day to check on him. The nurses were always friendly and more than willing to talk about him, his day, and really make me feel involved and up to date on how he was progressing. I really appreciated their weekly care meetings where I got to have a conference call with his doctors, the primary nurses, and the social worker. Everyone really made a lot of effort to care for my father and me. The social worker was amazing and did an outstanding job of helping find another place for him when his condition meant he could not go back where he had been due to them no longer being able to care for him at that stage of his dementia. The social worker even called a while later to check on him and make sure I didn't have any questions. I was so pleased with how they handled a difficult situation and how much they cared for me as much as they did my father. Several nurses and staff said they really liked my father and would miss him but wished him well. I was so worried about sending my father to the state mental hospital because it sounded so scary and like something out of a horror movie, but my experience has really changed my mind. I would hope I am cared for by such people when I am older and need care.

My 9 month old had a fever of 105 and was shaking and breathing funny. I gave her a dose of ibuprofen and decided since it was 2am I better take her in. My gut said St. Luke but since St John was closer I figured what the heck? I get there and no one is waiting but a guy is sitting in the spot where I needed to sit to register, talking it up (I guess) to the receptionist. He after a few minutes he realized he was in the way and politely moved. Cool. Get registered and I wait...wait...wait to be seen. Remind you, I'm the only one waiting. Finally a nurse comes but she's behind the receptionist desk and doesn't know how to get to the waiting room. The receptionist shows her and she comes around...lets the door close. NOW doesn't know how to get the door open from the waiting area. We finally get back there and get temps, blood pressure, etc. recorded. Then wait...wait...wait for the Dr. He finally comes in and a nurse tells him he has a phone call and he leaves. Wait some more. Comes back... check my baby. Ear infection in both ears. Prescribes meds and tells nurse to administer dose of antibiotic since pharmacy is closed. Good, making process. Please tell me why the nurse comes with 2.5 applicators full of antibiotic? I asked "why so much?" Nurse: that's what Dr. prescribed. "But that's A LOT!" Nurse: that's how much she needs. Then proceeds to administer the meds but my baby wouldn't take it from her so I had to do it. Halfway through the first applicator she says "wait!" Tells me to give a bit more then takes the applicators and squirts the meds back back in the bottle (thankfully she didn't squirt the one my daughter used back). So in reality she only needed HALF of an applicator. What did the nurse say? "Well that would have cleared that infection right on up!" Ummm no mam. That's not how it works. I was so thankful to be out of there! I THOUGHT the Dr was the only one that had a clue until I got home and could not comprehend his instructions and I'm not sure who labeled my 9 month old as a: child with an ear infection AND an adult fever. Huh? Is she a child or an adult? And what's an adult fever? If you have a life threatening issue, I seriously do not recommend this ER. If the staff were monkeying around with a simple common ear infection, you may not make it out of there alive.

I went to the emergency room (because of my crappy unaffordable healthcare insurance) due to an infected ingrown toenail. The ER doctor immediately refused to even numb it, and tells me to go see a specialist. So, I'm pretty sure that I'll get a huge bill for nothing but having medication thrown at me and told to go away. I informed the staff that I am already on antibiotics for a tooth issue, but they don't care. just tell me to keep doing what I've been doing for a week (epsom salt soaks, wash off with alcohol, wear open toe shoes). I have had infected ingrown toenails removed at Urgent Care before, no issues, but they don't take my not so helpful exchange insurance. So, I've called the specialist and now get to wait a week before they can see me. In the meantime, my foot feels like its going to explode.

It's clean. Most people prefer this Hospital over the other one. You go in sick and come out better. It's awesome!!!

Have had Several visits to the ER, several times by ambulance, Both of those experiences were good, Nurses are exceptional, Drs are ok for the most part, depends on which Drs are working, some are really good and some kinda so so.. No issues with family not being able to come back in the ER with me, only downfall is this ER does not have a Trauma unit, and only one set of X-ray and CT. I was recently in a bad motorcycle wreak and spent 7 hours in the ER, waiting and getting Xrays , before they transferred me to KU Med Center.

Please read ALL as I had to calm down before wrighting this. I was just released from the hospital from 4 days of treatment and fear. #1 a young white female dr with short black hair saw me after I waited 3 1/2 hours... no, the St Johns ER was not busy, it was actually quite slow. Her name has something like Khoawli or close to that. #2 everyone knows ER 101 is urinalysis..she never ordered one... or it would have shown I was loosing danger amount of protiens #3 she was mad that the staff sent off my labs and exray when she didn't want that to happen. She felt I was being dramatic and just overreacting and overweight. I had actually been urinating out my muscles! It's actually a thing. Traumatizing! Keratosis is the word for it. I gained 46 lbs of swelling and fluid due to my liver enzymes being 3x the safe limit. I also now have kidney damage. #4we will be suing for neglect as I could have died the following night if My wife hadn't called my pcp and said this can't be right when I was fine and now I can't walk and am in crippling pain. Luckily Melanie watts is and amazing physician at dr christiano! I was admitted that night. Never again. That Newbie Dr is never getting her residency if she continues this way. I hope you don't have a life or death issue if you are going there. Updated equipment doesn't mean good care. The Hospital itself was a bit better but beware... the daytime shifts are JERKS and don't care but night time has been awesome

I gave birth to my daughter here 7 years ago. The woman that admitted me screwed up. At first she took my state medicaid, got me processed and in to the women's ward. After I am about 5 cm dilated, this same woman comes knocking on my room, saying I am under COBRA and I am double dipping. I told her COBRA was part of my benefits that I had with an old employer when I was employed with them 2 years ago. I used COBRA for my previous child. I explained my current situation that I'm currently unemployed and receive UE benefits and I am on state assistance. This woman says she will look into it, as she could see nurses come in to check on me. I currently owe $3,500 for the admissions woman's mistake. She marked me down as a self pay!!! My balance used to be $6,300, but thanks to the lovely wage garnishments that take 25% of my take home , I was able to get it down to $3,500. I tried to get this resolved with medicaid, but it is hard to locate medicaid info from 7 yrs ago over the phone, especially if you do not live in the same state. I gave this place a 2 star because when I was there, the nurses were good to me. But that admissions lady ruined it.

Amazing Staff!! Went in because my knee was in so much pain I couldn't take anymore ... Got me and with no waiting , was very professional and gave me some of the best treatment a person can ask for! Hope I never have to go back to a hospital but if I do it will be this one.... Thank you all.

I've taken my 2 yo daughter here since she was born & can honestly say we've had more negative experiences than positive. I feel like the doctors in the emergency room failed to take my concerns seriously. After a 3 hour wait to see a doctor (in an empty ER) I was told my child had hand foot & mouth. The doctor proceeded to tell me I should have just stayed home despite her 103.0° temp and the last 6 hours she spent screaming in pain. I understand there is no treatment for HF&M, but it would have been nice to be treated with a little respect and understanding. The pediatric office I take my daughter to is also this building. It's good comprehensive care, but if your looking for a warm friendly environment I would consider going somewhere else.
