One of the best in the country as a veteran I feel they try to do their best

Poor utilization of resources… While I am generally satisfied with the VA services I receive, scheduling is less than satisfactory… At my routine dental check up, I was scheduled to return for a cavity. I have repeatedly asked that my appointments be coordinated to save me trips but it never seems to happen; Round-trip for me takes three hours and someone to accompany me; that’s 6 man hours (not to mention the wear and tear on my vehicle) for a procedure that ultimately took only 10 minutes (from the time I walked in until the time I walked out) When asked why this could not have been done at the time of my check up, I was told they didn’t have the materials needed. Seriously a dental clinic without materials to do a small filling? And why was It not coordinated with my next cleaning appointment? Total lack of consideration for my resources.

Melissa Gaines

Horrible at the ER. A nurse talks about how she hates her job and just makes smart comments. The wait here is mind numbing. They say they are admiting you but you still dont get a room after being here for 5 hours.

Trazell Patterson

I ALWAYS GET HORRIBLE SERVICE HERE! PATIENT ADVOCATE IS NO HELP, PPL ARE RUDE ON THE PHONES WHEN YOU CALL IN, THEY TRANSFER WITH NO EXPLANATION IF WHAT THEY ARE DOING, NO ONE SECOND PLEASE, OR ONE MINUTE SIR, NOTHING! JUST COMPLETELY RUDE ALL AROUND THE BOARD. YOU DO GET A COUPLE PPL WHO WORK HERE THAT ARE POLITE, AND VERY HELPFUL BUT IT IS WAY MORE BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE THAN GOOD. ESPECIALLY IF YOU CALL IN AND TALK TO SOMEONE OVER THE PHONE.

Mike Kinslow

The volunteer service is unforgiving. Make just one mistake, & a person's banned from volunteering there for life! I could say something profane, but I'll keep my dignity.

Patrick Adcock

Good Dr. They do a great job

Mark Patrick

great service for disabled veterans

Michael

Have been targeted with many other VA run facilities to falsify aplointments. Will work if its the only place Veterans have for their health needs. I am not fully satisfied with all their services or petsonnel's ethics.

Tota Lee

They take care of us vets

T. Moran

Horrible service. The lab tech seemed to take pleasure in inflicting pain. Most painful experience I have ever had in simply having blood drawn. The guy was incredibly rude and had a really terrible attitude. Repremended me for coughing. Unbelievable. The entire hospital is terribly depressing and seems to be nothing more than an upgraded homeless shelter.

Bill Burk

Went to va 5 times for heart problems they kept me for 4. Days then after shocking and burning me they sent me to research hospital and cardiologist fixed me up then I can go into other issues it would take a. Book to put bad experiences with va and admitted small bowel obstruction still no 3 times in hospital same issue wandering if I will ever get the help I need or die

Phoo Fop

Always expeditious when we come for appt

Marvin Buller

I've had back surgery back in January and later went back with heart problems and I was treated great after 2 stents were put in one artery. Doctors and nursing staff took good care of me.

Rachel La Valley

Took too long to find parking.

Wes Capell

I went to the ER last night for an internal infection. I was in and out within an hour. Everyone I saw was very friendly and professional.

Kathryn Ritterhoff

The Dr's are supportive, and have a great bedside manner. They take time to make sure you understand what is happening. The Nursing staff, are very polite and professional. You couldn't find better care in all of Missouri. My one complaint .... The parking is atrocious.

Jay H

I took off my heart rate monitor. I went in because I was having tension headaches and nose bleeds. Nobody came for a half hour in the ER, and they saw me but was passing through to the next room. It's that long waiting for someone.

joe cannon

It's where I have to come for tests and evaluations.

The travel office has gone from paying travel while you wait on the day of travel, to an automated system. Now we file the travel claims on the Kiosk. So instead of speeding up the process, I have been waiting for travel on May 22. I am told I will receive it tomorrow at 7 June. I can wait... I have a service connected disability and I can afford to wait. It is inconvenient. But, what about those who are waiting on service connection and may be homeless? We are told 18 people commit suicide every day. I know from personal experience that I would not have been able to travel under these conditions because I could not have afforded to finance the VAs Travel office. I was not and am not a bank. I would have had to forgo my medical and mental health care. During that time, I was in intensive outpatient treatment. I would have died had this been the policy back then. Someone should remember that ICARE is a federal ethics standard for the VA. The needs of the veteran should be the first priority. An automated system that delays payments for veterans in need does not meet that standard.

This VAMC keeps getting worse, as the older nurses and doctors retire and the younger ones (who care nothing about the patients) replace them. In addition, a lot of the administrative staff are downright surly and disrespectful. Today I was having floaters and light flashes in my left eye. I went to the ER at the KCVA because the Eye Clinic was closed for Veterans Day. I was told that there was neither an Opthamologist nor an Optometrist on call today. This is Ridiculous for a big city hospital ! I demanded that I be referred to another KC area hospital, because I was not going to chance losing my sight - if this w ER e a detached retina. Fortunately for me, one of the few remaining doctors who still care about patients was on duty (Dr. Lund) and he immediately put in the referral. The admin staff lived down to their usual slovenly standards. It took over an hour for them to get the paperwork to print and they put the stickers of another VA Patient on my paperwork. Typical.

DO NOT WORK FOR THE VA!!!!!!!! The worst thing about loosing a loved one, is having to handle all of their affairs. My beuatiful mother passed away on September 22, 2018, and today is Jan 17th, 2019 and my brothers and I HAVEN'T MADE ANY progress, in regards to her death benefits, life insurnace policies, or any other supplemental policy she may/may not have paid into. My mother worked for the VA for 30+ years, and the VA has no remorse in losing one of their valued employees. I pray nobody has to deal with the VA Medical Center in regards to the death/benefits of a loved one. The VA will procrastinate in issuing any benefits my brothers and I are entitled to. My mom excelled in her job, even setting and paying into benefits, that the VA has no sense of urgency in helping our family to grieve!! The VA is a horrible agency to work for, and don't value their employees. ULTIMATELY their neglect in this matter prevents my brothers and I from starting our grieving process, and dealing with the death of my mother!

Kirk Davis

Very good service

Harry Fish

Treated with honor care and respect. I have heard horror stories about The VA from all around the country, this must be one of the good ones.

Caleb Smith

This is one of the best VA facilities in America. They really treat everyone like they deserve to be treated, and they go above and beyond to ensure everyone is helped no matter what they need. This place has been very beneficial to my father and many other vets I know. Thanks for everything you do everyone!

BoostedFred !

Contacting them by phone is completely useless. Even if you only have basic questions youll spend alot of time getting the run around, connected to various dept that have nothing to do with your issue. In the end they will transfer you to a automated line which does nothing to help. The people working there have no idea how to do their job in helping veterans getting the help that’s needed. Good job VA!

Shirley B

They have been wonderful to my husband.

Scott LaTessa

ER is open 24 hours, but regular hours are 8-430 m- f

Richard Griswold

Mostly very good people that work here. I appreciate them.

Sage Clemons

Always forward thinking and improving. They go above expectations to help and care for their patients....

Racheal Annette

Best va hospital I have been to

Tracy Russell

Their emergency room is no different than any other hospital. Some days are better than others for speedy care. The staff is exceptionally thorough with care and release instructions. Staff is kind to those who are not veterans as well. When I've been here with my loved ones and they notice I'm freezing, they get me a blanket without me asking.

albert powell

I've had back surgery back in January and later went back with heart problems and I was treated great after 2 stents were put in one artery. Doctors and nursing staff took good care of me

dale burns

I feel welcome, but, it has gotten more expensive than I can afford.

bob hoffman

I've had 2 operations on r/foot 1 to set and put a plate in 2 to remove plate and remove scar tissue from nerve both times surgeons and nurses where very respectful and showed great concern for my well being

Simeon Collins

I went to the er for pain in my back cause i could barely stand and all the lady could say is whose your doctor....

Theodore John

Government healthcare. Sometimes great, sometimes so so.

Jim Thacker

Human Resources needs to answer their phone. I called on 11/5/13, and the operator just kept putting me through so I could listen to the phone ring. A disservice to all veterans, especially those wanting to file a complaint against an employee. I have received excellent care there, once you get past the rude front desk people and the lab folks who do not wash their hands.

Derrick Roberson

I've been going to the VA hospital here in Kansas City for 4 years. I still am in the same pain I was 4 years ago. I have changed doctors twice and that hasnt helped at all. I sleep 3 or 4 hours a night and have headaches 12-15 hours out of a day. I go to work daily in pain and come home from work in real bad pain. I have seen outside doctors who have done more than the VA but when they refer me back to the VA for further treatment with their findings. The VA has always questioned their findings. This has been the worst experience of my life. In my opinion the VA here in Kansas City are pill pushers. Not really trying to figure out a patient's pain just prescribe meds and give you unlimited refills. I don't want to take pills forever. So unless you just want the pills I wouldn't recommend going to the VA in Kansas City. It's a waste of time.

Rae Clements

I have always received top notch care from the VA. The wait times can be long, depending on time of day, so if you can make an appointment, it's highly recommended. Patient care is the primary focus, so providers do what is in your best interest instead of what pays them.

Jim Faulconer

I have had nothing but excellent care. They took good care of me when I had a stroke. I think they do a good job of caring for us vets

Angela Lemieux

They are giving the best care to my sweet Daddy!!

Sam

Great folks in the neralagy dept!!

Glenda Staats

Great doctors and nurses.

Tracey Dawson

Will treat you like trash, and not care..... checked intinthe ER at 9:59 and no one even asked what was wrong for an hour.... I went to the admission desk and asked if I was in the line after being the only person in the waiting room for 30 minutes, and was told they will get to me.... yet NO ONE, not a single person had asked what was wrong. Finally after getting nothing but attitude and even security personnel witnessing a Male staff member yelling at me from down the hall, I was told I was the person in the wrong and told to leave..... WITHOUT CARE...... Even asked to talk with a supervisor, and was told they were to busy, that I needed to leave, because I caused a disturbance, if the care that we as veterens were promised was actually given to the veterens there wouldnt have been an issue. The first question anyone asks when being checked into an EMERGENCY ROOM is what is the problem/ why are you here. To leave someone waiting for an hour without even asking what is wrong ks just ludicrous. To top it off as I am sitting in the parking lot posting this review two security personnel (including the one that told me to leave) walk out and talk to a medical personnel (female in her car) mocking me, joking, laughing, trying to make fun of the situation that I was in. Thought this was supposed to be a place to actually get care..... not all of us are after pain pills, all I needed was to have a wound check completed, and possibly antibiotics.... but the staff is to busy to actually help and would rather joke around at the patient's expense..... Good job KCVA!!!!!! We will see if I actually get phone call back from anyone..... not holding my breath

Dio104

The staff is rude and uncaring. The medical lab techs are the worst I've ever seen. The last time I was there a lab tech intentionally bruised my arm while taking blood. I am not kidding. I had been to the lab earlier in the day for an ECG. When the doctor gave me a lab slip for blood work, the tech told me I should have taken care of it the first time I was there, despite my informing her that I had just gotten it. She then drew my blood without releasing the rubber tube, resulting in a large bruise. When I had an overnight heart monitor removed, the techs just ripped the tape and probes off. They didn't even speak to me. My doctor never documents my shoulder pain or headaches. She does try to put me on statins, even though my cholesterol is in the normal range. She also tries to put me on antidepressants. She ordered a heart scan and ten months later I still haven't been told the results. Do yourself a favor and use civilian medical services. My wife got insurance under the Affordable Care Act and she gets a lot better care than I do. While the lip service is there, the care and respect are absent. If you have to use the VA, expect rude treatment and painful lab tests. If you're lucky, your doctor will listen to you and try to address your issues, but odds are not in your favor. I can't wait to get market health insurance. I'm really afraid of this medical center, especially if I have to have some kind of surgery. I only go enough to maintain my medications.

Samuel Mc Gee

I have had nothing but outstanding service from this VA Hospital. This hospital has kept me alive. The staff has gone above and beyond the call of duty in treating my many ailments. Love everone at this hospital.

Isabelle Taylor

Dr don't do their job and a long wait time some people shouldn't have a job

Jeremiah Daniel

This hospital is mainly for Veterans not so much dependents just know that there are other VA Hospitals all through out this country but this VA Hospital has been here in the Eastern Kansas City, Missouri since the 1930’s and it has been renovated multiple times and has been under constructions for years they are willing to make the most of it just know that they give people fair warning when it comes out patient care they will not always take there time to link your information from center to another which is why it’s always worth getting more than one opinion to make sure that the person knew what they were talking about other times you would call ahead to keep people posted or to tell them to mail you anything to keep u aware of your appointments or other non-medical needs that needed to be met and it’s not too much to ask for somebody file the paperwork just know that it depends on the person and if they really don’t care you shouldn’t care either just know that you can report or file a complaint with some of the employees that work that for not doing there job and some people don’t make there job easy it’s just letting you know there is a lack of evidence on why they won’t serve you or why they want treat you or why it seems unnecessary for all these other employees who work for the U.S. Federal Government and make it seem like this is a joke but in reality the joke is on them because they are so wrong going against there creed or there motto that doesn’t fit the discription of helping all these men and women who served and protected this nation and that there suffering doesn’t not go unrewarded I mean you cannot satisfy everyone and some people can get that through there heads they r just in it for a paycheck and if you have to check someone than check them I know my boundaries that I shouldn’t cross which is why I’ve got pretty high standards that have to be met so I wouldn’t lower myself messing around with a place who doesn’t want to make any mistakes or regrets on helping someone and u sure as hell don’t believe in taking something that somebody else needs more than I do it’s just the privilege if not the privilege it’s that principal of why people make rules and if you don’t like then you must leave and if you work some place and they don’t like there policies than you can quite and if you get fired that’s on you just that my experience may differ with this place other will try to make the most of it

I am a fan of the VA hospital in Kansas City.

Kevin Loyd

Very helpful, fairly low wait times.

carol marshall

Excellent care. Went way above what is offered in the for profit hospitals in KC. Dr. Mark Plautz was a godsend for our family. He extended my father's life by ten years. He had 6.months to live. I could not have been blessed any more. And the people who work there love veterans and that's the coolest paet. They are truly like family to me and would recommend any veteran to seek treatment at the KCVA. Thank you all. Carol Marshall (Greer)

Paul Beatty

Very helpful

Bud Oyler

Easy to get help.

Dennis Putinski

I was able to have my hearing aids checked and clean and have my vision tested about the same time. Great care and attention.

DiAnne Edwards

I JUST LOVE LOVE LOVE ALL THE QUALITY CARE PROVIDED AT THE KANSAS CITY VA. NOT ONLY WAS MY GREAT UNCLE A PATIENT OF THIS FACILITY. I ALSO HAVE ANOTHER FAMILY MEMBER THAT GOES THERE. THANK YOU ALL HAVE A GREAT REST OF THE DAY AND A BETTER TOMORROW. PEACE OUT & GOD BLESS

Ray Stewart

Veterans in Kansas City could not be treated worse than what they are at this hospital. No empathy, no caring, no concern for veterans, no appointments, no qualified doctors, no benefits, poor patient treatment. KCVA is the worse in the country, hands down

Douglas Fiedler

I have Ben going to the KCVA for over 20 years and I have had a choice to go other places but I am so pleased with the care I get I don’t want to go anywhere else. I had the same Dr. in the red clinic for over 15 years until he retired and I was sure no on could replace him, but my new Dr. at the honor annex is just as caring. I had over 20 years of active duty and have other options but I won’t go anywhere else. Thanks for the wonderful care I get at all my clinics.

Dj Bratpack

If you're a diabetic, this is a dangerous VA to go to. My husband's health decreased rapidly within less than a 2 year span after switching to this VA for diabetic care! He had 3 different Doctors prescribing him different meds, one even took him off of insulin! A-N-D None of the Doctors bothered to review the meds the other Drs were giving him. Also I took him to the ER there a few times and they told him he was imagining his symptoms. Well... The Dr at the Fayettle AR VA said those symptoms are due to a heart blockage but now due to how his health deteriorated (courtesy of the KCMO VA Diabetic clinic) he's too unhealthy to undergo surgery for stints, or for a partial leg amputation.

Lawrence Pearson

It is my only option but I am very glad . This Linwood V A Hospital has kept me running . Repaired me when I broke . Maintains me when I am feeling fine. Everything happened fast .I was on the church bus leaving 3 minutes before my appointment would have happened .

andre sierra

I love the VA! I don't know why people think the VA is bad because I have had nothing but positive experiences at 3 different VA medical centers. Kansas City, San Diego and West Los Angeles.

Joseph Williams

Nurses and doctors are great. Hospital is terribly small, outdated, and administration can be extremely lazy.

Martin Hooks

Courtesy and nice job.

Jennifer Darnell

Its the hospital can't expect too much

glenn lorei

I have been connected to the VA Med Center for the las ten yrs. I am disabled due to hearing loss service connected. I have had very good care and I have no complaints. With all of the bad press the VA Med Centers have been getting. It doesn't seem to have infected our facility " Good old Midwestern manners". Every once in a while a person has a bad day.

h

Opens late and closes early. Contacting them by phone is a nightmare, even if you only have basic questions youll spend alot of time getting the run around, getting connected to various dept that have nothing to do with your issue. Until eventually they Just transfer you to an automated machine to deal with you.

Amy Bradley

My dad is a vet and was working on a wood project and cut fingers off. VA was so awesome and sent him to an amazing place. He has almost all movement. Thank u!

Carl Fisk

Never cared to see a doctor, unless u are close to death.

Keith Ranney

Care & caring have improved over the last few years.

Kirsten Phillips

No cost to me as a Vet

R S

Where is the sense of urgency and empathy when a veteran comes to your ER for help? Not every person coming in is a drug addict or alcoholic, but being treated like one. Barely any patients here, but no nursing care and doctor attention. Husband in extreme pain, not a regular to ER, has heart problems and nerve pain. No sense of urgency. Chief of Staff, fix this unfriendly, unwelcoming demeanor of your check in clerk at window, triage nurse, etc. And family invisible as always. If you dont like your jobs or treat patients like a number, you are in the wrong environment for these heroes. At a non VA hospital is where the real caring, attentive medical staff is....let Vets have the choice to go where they want if you cant do better than this. The staff was hanging over and around the nursing station laughing seemingly with nothing to do.

nathan bunnell

Close to home for me

Royal Bonjour

It is the VA, they give me medical care. I have had good service with them.

John Clark

They respect and take excellent care of the veterans.

Bruce Verkruyse

One of the better VA's in the US.

Joshua Aldape

Overall not a bad place. Doctors are pretty good. Physical therapy is great and so is orthopedics...did have an issue with ER taking some time to get to me. I would suggest having all kinds of doctors ( at least one) available during all hours of operation.

Jill Adams

Love the service

AJ Medina

They take good care of their vets

Jimmy P. James

I knew I was supposed to get appointment how about appointment to see a heart doctor but I forgot

Zachary Lawrence

They do great job with my husband

Natural Leader

I started with the government in the 11 grade and now I'm in my late 40's. I love my veterans and I'm going to end my career loving my veterans. What makes me sad is I'm not finished with my career and still have passion for working in the medical field but watching the leadership pass you by and punish you for your loyalty to the company that you believe in, and to tell you that you don't qualify for a job is disappointing. They want you to train someone else and promote them. It's hurts because the VA believed in me at one time, and now I question my decision to invest in a company that won't invest in me

Terrail King

I am an employee and it's a nice place to work

Ed Renfro

Very Veteran friendly and to family members too. My care team has been awesome!

Wanda Smith

Good care husband has been going here has saved his life many times. 100%disabled pared with k u medical center. Like anywhere else care takes time.my husband has a lot wrong from service related. Clean well kept better than centrepoint where my dad was va much better

P Watson

The renal clinic staff seem really nice to all the vets. Nice to see.

Stanley Boose

Worst place to get care. I went there for severe knee pain. First the nurse says get over here to the nurse station in a rude manor. then tells me to get over here again when she wanted me to walk to the room when I asked for a wheel chair. Then tells me NOT to get on the bed. Then the doctor comes in and ask me why I am not in the bed and I told him what happened referring to the nurse and then he did his test no X-rays no other imaging and tells me to go home to keep doing what I had already been doing which is icing my knee, to whom that had knee surgery before this is worse than that as far as the pain level is. IF I WASN'T FORCED TO COME HERE I WOULDN'T. IF I COULD GIVE ZERO STARS I WOULD.

Kenneth Kennedy

Unorganized. Never return calls. No communication what so ever.

C Boughton

The problems that are occurring across the country with regard to long wait times for care, port quality care, etc... are still occuring at this and other VA hospitals. If I had not taken action to get my father prompt cardiac help outside the system at a non-VA hospital, he would have been at a VERY HIGH risk for a heart attack. So sad our Veterans are not getting the care they need.

Been on hold for about 30 mins trying to schedule an appointment, likely I'll die of old age first than from my injury

Thomas Adams

30+ day wait for VA appointments, having to call multiple times to schedule appointments, & getting hung up on over & over again after waiting on hold, what’s not to love?! The Kansas City VA, where the Veteran’s needs come last!!

brendacoleman54

It sucks. I can never get anything done right there

LaRenzo Cummings

Always helpful and on time....

The Kansas City VA is one of the best VA facilities I've seen with 2 exception. The LAB and Some of the Assistants. The LAB: Full of digruntle people who take smoke breaks every 30 minutes. I myself am a smoker and would be fired from my job if i took smoke breaks 30 minutes in to my shift. They cleary don't give a damn about the 40 people waiting. Honstly, they genuinly seem to be bothered by doing their jobs. I have made several complaints about this to patient advocate and nothing has changed. The Assistants: In my experience they seem bothered to be destracted from their girl talk. They're more interested in gossip than helping Veterans. I ahve seen Doctors rip in to their assistant for the lazy work ethic they show. By a lot of them you are treated like you owe them something for doing their freaking jobs. I've researched where the Assistants are hired from and 90% of them are part of the "Welfare to Work" program. Finding this out wasn't the least bit surprising. Why the Fed Gov. would hire people who would rather sit on the couch watching Oprah all day is a good idea is beyond me. It's typical liberal Gov policy to make them look like they care. Other than those 2 things the Kansas City VA has some of the best Doctors & Nursing staff in the city. The Doctors & Nurses really care about the Veterans and always go the extra mile. These are people who could make triple the $ in the private sector but choose to help Veterans for pennies compared to what they could be making. Because of the great Doctors & Nurses I give this VA a 4 out of 5 stars. If they'd get better assistants and Lab Techs they'd be getting a 5 out of 5 stars.

The staff really make it feel as if they appreciate your service to our country. All interactions have been very respectful.

Half hour to get to pharmacy, then I was told it would be an hour and half wait. I finally got my meds 3 hours later. 4.5 hours

Doug W

I've been getting all of my healthcare needs with this facility for almost two years now. I've been pleasantly surprised with the pleasant physicians and nurses on my treatment team. The technicians at the lab have been excellent despite having to wait 20 minutes or so during their busy times. Wish the ticket dispensing device wasn't surrounded with "stuff" making it hard to know what to do when you first enter the lab/waiting room. One sign with a red arrow saying "take a number, have a seat and we will be with you soon" would be nice. You walk in and bam, you see the sign and take care of business. I missed my appointment with the sleep lab, totally spaced it out, and was quickly provided with another appointment but it was out three and a half months - ouch. I’ve had to ask for directions a few times from employees in the hallways and each person was very helpful in getting me to my destination. I would have given an overall rating of 4.5 stars but it wasn’t there.

jack whisket

I don't know about other facilities are but the V.A. here in Kansas City, Missouri is as good as any commercial hospital and, no matter where you go, you will never find a more caring staff of nurses, aids, doctors, house keeping and all support staff. I have had occasion to have a stay there three times, they were the very best however, I can't say the same for some of my fellow veterans who were there.

David Weddle

My previous review was good...but that place is going downhill. Used to get my questions answered the day I sent the mail. Watch your debt to them, for they are merciless! They will hit your social security check and are ruthless about it. My colonoscopy was a 7 hour wait. It is down, down hill these days.

Julie Whitney

I have never been disappointed going to this location! The people are friendly, helpful and determined! I always feel confident that they are there for we veterans!

Chloe O

I called the VA for four hours trying to get a hold of registration...set up my appointment....transfer my file....the only people who answered were the switch board operators & another department who couldn't help! Their customer service is horrible... was able to call Eisenhower VA and was set up within 10 mins. *side eye*

Dan Bowers

I have used the VA in Kansas City for about 6 years for issues like problems from gunshot wounds in Vietnam; Agent Orange complications including cardiac heart issues, pulmonary and lesser things like sleep apnea, glasses, hearing aids, …

Why Me

Most of the people, (not all) don't care and are only there for the pay check. I don't even know why people give reviews of this place other then venting to a system that is not listening. The patient advocacy is pretty much useless just someone taking a pay check and the doctors (not all) to me are just waiting for the veterans to die off. The person who runs the show a female administrator (what I was told) from the Florida VA cares more about restricting the doctors (what I was told) then letting them do there jobs as is shown by the huge turn over of the medical staff. I have come into the VA and the some of the people working at the counter were so rude yet soon as a person from their community steps up they are so helpful. I know there is a word for it and it starts with a "R" but I am told these people can't be that. So for me if they would allow me to find my own doctors I would never come back to KCVA. It's the only VA I am allowed to go to so I hope the others are better. I have also been in the hospital when homeless people where sitting in the waiting room who were not veterans and yes you can tell. The place is always under construction and whoever was the idiot that approved the over hang with the solar cells should be fired. A parking house would have worked so much better and would have fixed the parking situation. I have been going there since 2005 and it is a money pit, just think of all the money they could save if only they would give the veterans the choice and then shut KCVA down.

Rick Adcock

The best of the best

Kenneth Figgins

The VA is the VA! But this location has friendly staff. The VFW guys here are A++++

Joe Zuchowski

I must be trying to get to the same group as the guy 2 reviews below. 30 minutes on hold, in their defense the wound clinic is always 30+ minutes behind schedule. The worst so far is a 1 pm appointment and not getting seen until 3

Les Riley

Staff in the ER is rude .

Mark Lyon

For the most part, I've always had great service from the staff at this VA hospital. Over the last 14 years I've had very few negative experiences. Staff has been friendly, accommodating and thoughtful. This place rocks!

Shari Poindexter

They treat my Father as if he was their father.

Louis Phillips

Great place, friendly staff.

I realize that there are so many veterans trying to use this hospital that it backs up appointments. However, if you have to reschedule, it doesn't need to be a "punishment" and make you wait 3 extra months for something that takes 15 min to do. Its an old building, so it will not be like an a newer Olathe medical center, so that I can understand about it being described by other reviewers as such. The parking needs to be addressed, seems that the staff shares the same parking as the patients (This I was told by a nurse), and when it takes 30 minutes to find an open spot, that is too much. For severe back pain, rather than muscle relaxers or some other pain meds that regular doctors prescribe like free candy, I was sent a jumbo sized bottle of 800mg ibuprofen to take up to three times a day, you know, the same substance that destroyers your stomach lining. That's just Insane! So, besides that even the most basic dental care is ONLY available for 100% disabled vets, I just say use the VA only if you have to. So many of us were promised "Total medical care for life" when we signed up for military duty, and we put our lives on the line believing in those benefits would be there if we needed them. Its very sad that most of us were lied to.

ER personnel very caring , professional, & pleasant service.

much better than I remember from 20 years ago, still a good hike if you're not quite crippled enough for handicapped parking... even with, still a good jaunt. who the hell numbered the buildings?!

I've had good service

I had to change my Primary doctor: Avan Solomon. at 4251 Northern Ave. This doctor is a "bad" doctor. My impression was based on how she treated me and the way she talked to me. First, I got the impression that she has a problem with "men" in general, by how she was not concerned with a new patient (who happens to be a man). I had just gone through a STROKE and my speech was/is not very good. She acted as if there was something with me taking her personal time beside addressing the problem(s) of my health concerns. After assessing her lack of professionalism, I got the irrefutable impression that she only works at the VA as a means of just to "Clock In" and collect a government pay check. She is located at the "HONOR ANNEX". It is not too busy there and the building is almost empty. Many fewer patients go that location, compared to the main Veteran hospital (4801 Linwood Blvd, Kansas City, MO 64128). There was no reason why she treated me as if I was interrupting her. I hope the next person avoids having (scheduling) her as a doctor. The best thing that can happen is for her to be retired and let another person who is competent and perform her current job as a "real" doctor. After changing her as being my current doctor, I had to see another doctor but had to wait for two months, (per the bureaucratic VA guidance when a person needs to change a doctor). My advice, when you are first assigned to a doctor, stay away from Dr. Solomon.

Haven't been to this hell-hole in four years. The last time I went in August of 2012, they refused to see me. I called Neurology from work about an issue with my legs. The receptionist told me to tell them in ER when I got there what I was there for and someone from Neurology would come down to get me. When I got to the VA and followed her instructions I was told: 'Oh no, you need a referrral'. I told them 'I'm done with this effing place' and walked out.

They are always attentive...so different from from the service in the early 2000's

Staff throughout building is amazing most go above and beyond and truly show care and appreciation for our veterans.

Family Schill

Take awesome care of my father!

I'm not sure where you are getting your service but I have had excellent care and service at both the Johnson Cty office and downtown KCMO Medical Center. Appointments are timely, staff is courteous and polite and the cafeteria is not bad either. Perhaps it is a measure of personal attitude and expectations. My visits have been as good or better than that of "private for profit" clinics. I have been thanked many times for my service and it is about time someone says, "thank you VA Hospital for your service".

Rachel Perisho

Always striving to improve from the bottom down and the top up. Positive feedback from patients here, and checks and balances in place to address processes.

John Hopkins

Excellent service from staff and clean well looked after

This Facility is one of the best; understanding that the staff are only able to do so much, and the staff do all their best to provide care to those men and women who rely on VA care for life. Thank You KCVAMC!

I would have to disagree with what I have read about this facility. Granted I have only been here twice, but my experience has be phenomenal. Every single person I have come in contact with has been over the top nice and very helpful. Even some of the patients were very friendly and helpful. I will continue to go back here as much as need to.

Phil Chapin

Waiting too long

Michael Davenport

I have been very happy with the way I was treated by the professional staff. Sometimes the hourly workers are NOT so good.

Angela White

My Dad has had to stay for approximately a week on 2 occasions and the staff and Drs were knowledgeable and very nice. Would recommend to any veteran that needs medical attention.
