I saw the nurse and physician team at Women's Health today as well as the Million Veteran Program staff and they were just amazing. Listened to all my concerns, provided education about options and overall fast and efficient care. So pleased!
I have been going to the Dwight Eisenhower VA since 1986. I am 100% POW so I can use just about everything the VA has to offer. Early on I felt very fortunate to receive VA benefits, I still do today. However I believe this VA facility is letting Veterans down. I have had several minor surgeries at this facility, I have no issues with the surgery clinic. They have treated me very well. The Dermatology clinic was seeing me every 6 months, notifying me of up coming appointments. Then nothing, they dropped me for reasons not explained to me. When inquiring about an appointment, they informed me it would be more than a month before I could see a dermatologist. They referred me out. Urology dumped me for regular visits although my major service connected disability has to do with injuries received from being wounded in my groin. My family has a high risk for prostate cancer, that did not seem to make any difference in seeing them on a regular basis. The urologist at that time expressed to me that she did not understand why I was even seeing them for service connected injuries. That injury is over 30% of my rating. I have had several issues with signing in either in person or by the kiosk for appointments in a couple clinics or walk-in audiogy where I sat for an hour + waiting to be called to be told I was not signed in, even though I did by kiosk, or the doctor was not informed I was there in other clinics. I had a hearing loss issue on a Sunday so I went to the VA emergency room. They patted me on the head, sent me on my way. Assumed they were going to set me up with VA audiology. Nope, four days later went to civilian side audiologists on my own who immediately recognized my problem as total hearing loss. Made an appointment at KU Medical Center for evaluation. I went through the treatments to try to get some of my hearing back, but it was to late, lost all my hearing in my right ear. From what I have been told by Veteran friends across the nation, we are getting the shaft in Kansas . They could not believe what we were lacking in care. If not for the need for the prescriptions for service connected issues, I would go to the public side. You would think the VA system would be the same nationwide, it is not. Dental, eye, physical therapy, psychiatric, all have treated me very well. Primary care could use be a little more personable out front. Kansas has to be one of the worst states to reside in when it comes to Veterans Benefits. I have insurance but still need the dental, audiology, and optometry clinics since that is not in my coverage. The VA charges your personal insurance and Medicare first any way so you would think patient care would be priority. Guess not. Loosing faith in our VA system, especially here in Kansas.
I'm a disabled veteran they take very good care of me
Best VA around, hands down. We’ve been to KC’s VA several times, and they have nothing compared to here. Place is friendly with polite employees even when someone is a little hard to deal with. Clean and roomy waiting rooms(current location) with a comfortable feel. It’s nice to know our vets don’t have to go to a place and feel like a number! So far with as many times as we have been here, couldn’t have asked for a better staff. I know we can’t change the diagnosis as we would like, but it’s great not to feel like we are walking into total chaos. Best VA around
Showed up to MRI on time. Never received a letter or call about the appointment. only knew about the appointment because I received a text message and called to see why I was getting an appointment message. Was told there was two MRI appt and that was it. The clerk at MRI loudly scolded me for not having paperwork completed and stated, we run like clockwork, get them in and out; you should have had it done already. RUDE beyond belief. I did not realize I was a mind reader and a unit in a cattle drive. The MRI is located in a vehicle outside. You change inside into a lofty gown, walk out into the open hall, keep your boots on (literally), and walk out into the public parking lot (in your lofty gown) into the cold to get to the mobile unit-- WOW! It was freezing tat day and I don't blame the tech for staying in the vehicle and not escorting me back inside. Good thing I didn't fall on the ice as the metal stairs were slippery. Second appt- neurology: Dr. Informented me interns would be coming in- no problem. As I was shocked to check my muscles, the two interns lingered at my head discussing which places they liked to intern and talked personal stuff with little interest of what was going on medically in front of them. I could barely hear the Dr. giving me instructions. Half way through, an obvious unseasoned intern blurted out "anything abnormal?" Thanks for the sensitivity. While still in the exposing gown and trying to rush out to get to a meeting, the two interns stood in the room talking socially and laughing; I had to wait for them to get out to change. Finally the doctor prompted them to leave. Told me I would get the results later that day. They called (plus) but I was just walking into the a meeting. The nurse seemed a little ticked that I would not take the call (even though I was told a doctor would call). She said she would call back in a hour...never happened. My guess is I won't get called back. From my experience, you have one shot with calls; either your answer and talk, or they push it off.
Best care anywhere
This VA Hospital is a breath of fresh air, when compared with the Incompetent Nightmare of my Home VA - Kansas City. First, the facility is actually Clean, unlike Kansas City. The staff try to find ways to fit me in for an appointment, rather than blithely telling me that it will be forever before I can be seen. Everyone whom I have ever encountered at Leavenworth has been respectful and professional. Finally, parking is available very close to the main building.
Very thorough.
Just moved back home from Ft Meade, MD. Medically retired. Called here to get started with the VA system here. Explained that I wasn't sure how this works, other than I was told to contact the VA upon my arrival. Male who answered came off rude and redirected me to elgibility. Well it rang once and hung up on me. Called again, same guy answered and redirected me once again. This time it rang for a few minutes than reconnected me back to him. Told him what happened and he informed me they must be away or busy. Called again after a short amount of time and same situation happened. So far not impressed.
I go there, and they treat me like GOLD... I like to eat there also...
I live on campus and I get excellent care at the VA hospital
The care givers there are really nice people. I feel bad that they don't stay long enough to get to really know the patients well and continue the long term care. Not their fault but our governments fault for not managing the system well. I had 3 primary care doctors in 4 months. The pharmacy is top notch but a little long at times waiting for meds. Appointments are the most difficult situation when dealing with the VA. We need to cut the red tape and fix that piece and things will get better.
Best ever
Great care here! Just be respectful and nice and you'll fly in and out.
My visit went very well took very good care of me can not be more pleased with them
Helped my army service husband in many ways... Very helpful.
Luv the history of the 1930
The staff is friendly and helpful. It's nice to family members volunteer the time to help out there for the vets family but most of them self.
Great medical center for Senior's who was in the Army, or other branch of service.
Excellent care by professions at all levels who are extremely well trained, kind and helpful. As a retired US Army soldier and Vietnam combat veteran I have received treatment at a several VA centers over the past many years and this VA Center is absolutely the very best..... by far.
Pharmacy makes frequent mistakes. There is an atmosphere of show up draw a paycheck.Oh thats not my job or responsibly Mediocre health care at best. Sad our veterans suffer after giving so much.
They take very good care of veterans here. I have been treated by 7 different VA hospitals. This is the best.
Just on time and in time, LVVA stepped up to save my life, again....working to prove effort on my part is so fulling. The stratedgy was and is a challenge to my ability to change! Thank you Dom, Safe Haven and VA Staff. I am grateful.
I have always felt that I receive the best care that I could get anywhere at the Leavenworth VA. Plus to top it off everyone (VA Staff) I have had any contact with is very, very nice.
Goof
Excellent and caring service. From dying to functional in six months.
Superlative staff and dependable doctors that provide outstanding overall health care!!
Blows the KCMO VA out of the water.
Quality customer service, I was enrolled and seeing my doctors within a week. The staff really seemed liked they truly cared at this center. Broke the negative stereotype that had been fixed in my head by the media. I would recommend this center to any Veteran. I talked to other Vets being seen, they seemed to have the same opinion too

Dad has been here for 3 weeks now. Nurses are kind of rude and overall communication is non existent.
First of all, if you're going to leave a one-star review at least write an explanation as to why. Anyway, I've visited the VA hospital in Leavenworth a handful of times in the last year to handle my retirement and a few things afterwards. My experience has been nothing but good. The people have always been friendly, I've never waited long for appointments, the care and attention was great, and follow-ups for outside referrals were done quickly.
Always friendly people who are interested in helping you!
I am a veteran and I get my health care taken care of while I'm there and they treat you with respect and they listen to you and I'm happy with my health care
If you qualify as a vet, excellent medical care is available here
Went to Leavenworth VA for my surgery. Wonderful and professional staff. Excellent communication, met all the involved staff, who explained their roll in my procedure. Special thanks to my assigned nurse, who made my ice tea as I do not drink soda or coffee. Thank you so much.
I get Excellent Overall care here. Unlike some others I have been treated at..
Simply stated it's not the place it's the organization and attitudes of those employed that makes this a bad place. The want to sit there and wonder why Veterans are killing themselves in the parking lot. I have an answer.....because of your dumb bureaucracy. I got denied a referral because of one word psychiatric instead of physiology. You have no idea what this 1 decision you made a month ago and then decided not to tell me until now has had on my well being. Thanks for hurting instead of helping. I did my job how about you do your for a change!!!!
After a very frustrating and trying morning (4rs of calling & being on hold w/KC VA) Eisenhower VA immediatelty picked up the phone, transfered me to the correct department to transfer my file from the VA in Virginia and schedule two appointments within a week in less than 10mins.
I have been taking my father to this VA for over 15 years and have had nothing but fabulous every time. He fell a couple of yrs ago and broke the palate of his mouth we were referred to a plastic surgeon at KU Med. Thank goodness surgery was not necessary. All of the staff is kind and helpful and appointments are easy to make.
Professional and compassionate. Through patient health screening and profile. They look for EVERYTHING in blood work. They discovered things about my health that doctors in the private sector overlooked. I have a thyroid problem and vitamin D shortage.
Tried to setup a visit to get a primary doctor, was directed to the eligibility line. I am a vet. I know i can get a doctor. Had to leave a voicemail. 2 weeks later, still waiting for a call back
I am only giving 3 stars because of the conditions of the hospital, the staff i have worked with are great but lack basic equipment to do their jobs. This can first be seen by the conditions of the parking lot in the handicapped area
Cozy place, however you get there to find your appointment has been cancelled claiming dr would not be there, and you wait 3 hours to be squeezed in to see... Your doctor
Professional and knowledgeable staff. They follow up care very well. Would definitely suggest them to any vet. They need to tweak the appointment system though.
I find it to be the best.
Veteran Medical care is very good to few dr and nurses for aging veteran population in area
