The medical staff at Children's Mercy are amazing. They go above and beyond to make sure the kids aren't afraid. Even though they see a lot of kids, medical and administrative staff always give each child the time and attention they need

Sathyaraj Kolandasamy

Very less wait time in ER . The staff was very caring and helpful.

I am a physician (as is my wife) and we took our daughter to the children’s mercy ER today for an urgent issue at the recommendation of our pediatrician. As a doctor I can say this facility was astoundingly incompetent, from the nurses to the physicians up to the administrators. They failed to perform basic testing and the doctor who “examined” her didn’t even bother to do anything more than look at her from a distance. When I relayed this to our primary pediatrician, they were as shocked as my wife and I were and urgently directed us to another hospital in town to perform the proper tests and provide the proper care. I would strongly urge parents to avoid this facility at all costs. I can’t speak to the campus in KCMO, but I certainly can’t strongly emphasize enough how dangerous it would be to trust these folks with our most precious assets - our children.

I have never been to this location yet, but it carries the name CMH which is a household name in my book! BEST CARE, BEST PEOPLE, BEST COMPASSION! Sadly I lost my son back in 86, but CMH in KCMO went over and beyond with compassion taking care of him as long as they could. It will NEVER EVER by forgotten! Love CMH!

My daughter is 13, but I've never had to take her to the ER before. Obviously, I was anxious about it. This was the best hospital experience I've ever had. The front desk and security officer checked us in quickly. We didn't have to sit in the waiting room. The nurse and Dr were also prompt. We saw the dr more than once throughout the tests being ran. Everyone was kind (great bedside manner) and efficient. We left knowing what we needed to do to get my daughter better. No questions left unanswered. And we were out in 3 hrs.

I was very thankful for this hospital. We had to take our 6 week old to the ER. That was so hard in and of itself, but the staff, nurses, and physicians here were amazing. They took such good care of him. And they gave us all the options …

MeeMee Heart

Beautiful ER. Idk if the staff is nice, the nurse never brought me the ice I asked. They misdiagnosed my grandson, so I went to the other children hospital and diagnosed and helped my grandson. I will not be back to OPKS EVER AGAIN! The security guard was a joke too!

My daughter was treated for an undiagnosed bleeding disorder approx 7-8 years ago. Her hemotologist, gynecologist, primary care physician, my daughter and myself have attempted for months to get her records sent to them to assist in …

This is the worse place to take children of color. They misdiagnosed my child 3 different times. They will be hearing from me! Some ppl might feel different, idk, that's my issue not yours.

Very kind and curious people as well as having a caring heart. Many want to help but understand situations that is going on. Only thing is security needs to be a little better regardless of the time patients come in.

Two stars for communication from the e.r. Nurses. It was terrible. They would just walk out of the room without giving me updates or telling me when they'd come back. Then, when they told me we were all done they walked out of the room, and didn't come back for 45 minutes. When she did come back, she said they weren't completely finished. I don't plan to go back.

From the moment we walked in I was blown away. We were brining our 6 year old to the ER on Thursday and hadn't ever been to this location we were a bit lost. We parked in the valet and were walking in when a very nice security guard told us it would be easier to park by the ER dept- A very nice gentleman working by the door stopped the valet service for us so we could get in our car- they both were so friendly, smiled and seemed to really like their jobs. Then we got in the ER the check in nurse was so friendly and speedy. waiting room was clean- wait to get back to dr wasn't terribly long, once we got back to the room the nurses were all awesome. ER waits are always long so I won't complain about that- the Dr was really great once she got to us- very friendly- made eye contact- addressed all our concerns, didn't make us feel stupid- she interacted with our daughter very good. She had a very positive attitude that was contagious. When it was all said and done it was just a great experience. We've been taking our kids to childrens mercy downtown and east forever- for sure will go here from now on for anything we need!

We went there to their urgent care on Sunday for a routine ear infection give us the "pink stuff" for a 9 month old baby. After waiting a while we the get diagnosed with flue type issue, we asked about the ear infection and were denied. We left to then go to our normal Dr next day who said it was an ear infection. They sent us a $750 bill for using their emergency side.....wow

I’m sad to have to give KC’s Children’s Hospital a 1 star, but the care given was not appropriate. 2 admissions in less than 24 hours. An 11 month old with labored breathing- O2 stats in the 80’s. No one ever came in to assess when her monitor had good wave form and her monitor was going off. Inpatient staff also failed to assess her whole clinical picture which is why we were admitted 7 hours after we left the first time. I did not want to have to use my medical background to have to continually advocate for my child- I wanted to be a mother. What kind of care do patients get if they don’t have a family member who is in the medical field? I would also like to complete a survey- but the survey line won’t except my info. This is unacceptable- as survey results drive hospitals and I want to make sure my voice is heard.

I would not bring my children to this hospital unless absolute emergency. They offer different clinic specializing in different issues and I have had the displeasure of dealing with their incompetence for more than 8 years, because my child suffers from a LIFE THREATENING allergy, you would assume that there would be a level of importance because it is LIFE THREATENING but there are numerous occasions when this hospital drops the ball loses paperwork, give false information, or try to order unnecessary procedures. Childrens mercy is willing to let your child suffer through an unnecessary surgery because they want the money from the insurance company. They advised me my child needed surgery for an eye condition, got a second opinion and found out their eye doctor was serious uneducated regarding eye procedures, they suggested surgery but didnt even advise what type! Staff is incredible rude, and no one is on the same page! They do not listen to parents regarding our childrens condition or behavior. They act as if they have no knowledge of your previous health issues even when they are the only doctors your child has seen! At this point I have removed my children from this hospital care because I truly believe they have no concern about your childs well being or health and are more life use car salesmen trying to upscale me on an eye surgery! Beware!!!

What a JOKE!! Do yourself a favor and go literally anywhere else if you have the option. They go above and beyond to make sure your visit is miserable and overpriced. I'd take my kid to a holistic medicine man who didn't graduate middle …

I’m not normally unhappy here at this location BUT my 3yr old child and I were there early this morning and had the flu test done on her by one of the nurses in training while the other nurse was watching. She shoved the flu test up there so hard and far that it bent the stick and gave my daughter a BLOODY NOSE! Then she never said sorry or even seemed concerned about it. I said somthing about it and she had left the room with attitude after I asked to speak with someone. Yes, I was frustrated and asked to speak with someone in which the doctor was sent back into the room to look at her nose and pretty much try to cover the girls butt. The doctor came up with excuses trying to make it sound like it just happens. Well it definitely shouldn’t and doesn’t just happen. The doctor stated, “she wasn’t there so she doesn’t know what happened” I will say that yes on the positive side of the whole thing the doctor was very nice over all other than playing down what happened to my daughter which was frustrating to say the least as a mother.

I'm so happy to be a parent of a child who associated with CMH. I brought Daniel in for a MRI today. It took about Two hours to do this. The staff is real friendly and always so helpful and always cheerful. If i could rate this place higher then 5 it would be a 10. Been in involved with CMH since 2001 when my son was born. There is one more thing that I need to add on and that is I forgot to excuse for my son being out school today and after talking to 3 different people they were nice enough to fax one to Daniel school for after I answer their questions on who I was. Very careful people there with patients information.

Been there twice and both bad experiences. This last time our primary doctor referred us to a doctor at Children's Mercy for my 10month old to get and EEG and they refused and refered us to another specialist. Provide medical care for my child thats your job. Go to the one in KC if you can

Mary Perkins

We recently had to use the emergency services at this location. All of the nurses were friendly and professional. We were seen promptly, and kept in the loop for every step of the visit. I won't hesitate to use this ER in the future, if the need should arise!

Great place.

In regards to their professional medical staff, this is a fine place to take your kids for emergency services. Just make sure that you have excellent insurance or are willing to pay through the nose for the visit, because the billing system is weighed heavily in their favor. Our daughter had an elevated fever one evening, and her doctor's office was closed, so we brought her here as a precaution. They gave her some Tylenol, which immediately dropped the fever, and ran a few routine lab tests. It was more than three hours before we saw an actual doctor, who told us that our daughter just had a virus that's been going around that causes fever spikes in infants. A couple months later, we get a bill from Children's for almost $2,000. The ER services were coded as Level 4. ERs code their services on a scale of 1 to 5. If you visit a typical hospital ER, you might get coded as Level 1 if you came in with a nose bleed that wouldn't clot up. Level 5 is critical condition (you're about to die). Level 4 is on par with a heart attack. After months of calling and asking for explanations and getting the run-around, a person from their customer service department called back to explain their coding system. If you stop in for a routine check-up or follow-up visit, you get coded as Level 1. If you come in with a scraped knee or similar, you get coded as Level 2. If you come with with signs of a common cold or similar, you get coded as Level 3. Everything else is coded as Levels 4 and 5. This is their system and they stick to it. And it's not like they show you a fee schedule when you walk in the door, so you're stuck with what they ultimately decide. I know that this is an ER, so I expected to pay at least a few hundred dollars for the visit, but not $2,000. One star because we were brutally overcharged due to their unfair coding system.

Wow! For children with needle phobias bring them here!!! Their lab is well staffed with experienced phlebotomist and child specialized treatments. They use distraction techniques that really work! They also use numbing agents on the needle sight! No more holding down your kid with 5 nurses! CHILDRENS MERCY, YOU SAVED US!

I have very bad experience on first time visit in this hospital. They sent me a huge bill amount which is not fair at all. My son had minor skin rash. I went to hospital to get checkup this by some doctor. I parked my car in front of ER and when I entered to the door I asked the guy about the walk-in facility who was sitting in check-in counter. He pointed me to ER where I need to go to get checkup my son. I told him that I didn't want to go to ER because my son had minor skin rash only and also told him that I was looking for walk-in or urgent care. He did not respond my question properly and asked me to go inside ER. I got confused that moment and entered inside ER. After that doctor just did normal checkup, they did not provide any emergency facilities to my son. And now after one month they send me a bill of huge amount including doctor charge. They charged me about $700 for the emergency room which is truly unfair. I ended up everything by paying a huge amount to cure a minor skin rash. I would recommend not to go to this hospital unless necessary or think twice before going to this hospital. They are just money-hunger.

Absolute worst hospital I have ever gone to. I took my daughter in there 5 weeks ago ans STILL dont have the results. Not only did they have me leave the room while they did God knows what to my daughter...gave her a shot and exam without my permission. I came back to the room after over an hour and the doctor told my daughter to tell me what they did. What?! The doctor said she would call me back with the results in 2 weeks. She never did. I called and the nurse said she needed to get the ok with my daughter to discuss the results with me. That would be impossible with my work hours and her in school. BUT the nurse didnt inform me that they were available after hours as well. So... I sent in a release form with my daughters signature.....never heard back from them. I took my daughter out of school to go to the medical records department to get the results. They wanted her signature, they wanted a photo ID, and they wanted to talk to her alone. By now my daughter is pretty frustrated as well. They gave me 30 pages that did not have 3 of the results on them. I called the nurse line supposing that I could talk to them because we gave them everything they needed yesterday. Nope....they needed to talk to my daughter on the phone. I drove to pick up my daughter and the lady called me back. She spoke with my daughter and because she did not know her own SSN at the age of 15 the lady would not talk to us about the results. We were in the car! And we dont give out our SSN on the phone. So how is one supposed to get medical care? What was the point in going into the emergency roon? I called the ER and spoke with a couple other nurses and they all pointed back to DEDE, who personally refused to give us the information that other nurses promised to give. Could they use any other identifying information from my daughter.....nope. Dede did not feel comfortable giving us that information. How do we get the results from an apparent EMERGENCY ROOM VISIT 5 weeks ago!!! Now we are going to another doctor to get all of these tests done again if our insurance will pay for it again!! We will NEVER go to this hospital again and I will NEVER look for a job here as well! I'm in healthcare and have never experienced willful disobedience and legalism like this in my life.

I have seen Children’s Mercy Genetics, Neurology, Feeding Clinic, and ENT. I have had an excellent experience with every single one of these departments and physicians. The ophthalmology department is the only clinic I have had issues with. I’ve seen 2 different doctors, and the first left me with more questions and would not answer other than saying “I don’t want to scare you.” The other doctor was kind and great with my toddler while looking at my baby (5 months old) but in one breath mentioned my son could be blind but doesn’t know, and wanted to send me to a Visual Impairment Clinic- after only doing a couple of tests on him. Neither doctor seemed confident in their diagnoses. I took my son to see De. Gerhard Cibis in KCMO, and he spent time on him, answered my questions, and gave me answers the first visit. He has more than 25 years experience. He told me my son is not blind and his vision is fine, but that his issues were neurological. We will be following up with him.

Kyra Dry

Walked in to take my son who was ill, didn’t realize that the clinic wasn’t walk in but only ER. Just asked since I was confused and the Security Officer was being very rude and spoke to me in a condescending way, “There IS no walk in here”. No smile, no polite manner when speaking. So we walked out to go to the other Children’s Mercy on 135th. Where we have been many times and had no problems.

We always come here for our emergency and specialist needs. We never wait long and everyone is friendly. My only complaint is that ER nurses that treated my son didn't know how to cath an intact baby. They didn't know you shouldn't retract the foreskin on babies. Please educate staff on this issue.

I went here when I started gaining weight. I saw this endocrine doctor, her name is Dr. Yan. She speaks both English and mandarin. When I was little she saw that I was limping. After she took a Mir to see what was wrong. She then refers me to many other doctors that help me with other medical needs. She is a very helpful doctor.

Used their allergy clinic for my two children. The service was fine, then I got a $1000 bill after insurance for a routine allergy visit and some skin testing. My now 2yr old, has been here for a sleep study 2x over a year ago. Even though the circumstances weren't the best and I was scared, my son wasnt in the best health, the staff and sleep lab girls do a great job from experience! I will say, to be prepared to leave, VERY tired from a sleep study, if you truly needed one. We have gotten a room near by each time to run across take a warm bath and go to sleep instead of right away drive 4 hrs or more home! Hope this helps :)
