Doctor's & nurses have been absolutely amazing!! The care my brother has received is Great! However housekeeping sucks. I've been here almost a week now staying basically 24-7. 1 of my family members are here all the time to support my brother. and nobody has yet to actually clean the 4th floor main waiting room all week. Changing the trash isn't cleaning . All I've seen housekeeping do is push their carts up & down they hallways & change trash. It's ridiculous.

Everything under one roof. Start the day in the lab, then on to an MRI. When you see your doctor within a few hours He/she has all of your results. The staff is great about pointing you to your next destination.

My son who was 8 years old underwent some dental work under general anaesthesia. The dentist and resident physicians who saw him were fine. Apart from what ever he got in the OR he got 16mgs of PO Midolazam rift before procedure. As soon as he came back from recovery room to his bed the nurse told us to get ready to take him home. Mind you he hasn’t opened his eyes yet. The nurse asked us to take him to bathroom and I carried him to bathroom. By the time we came back the stretcher was gone and there was a wheel chair in bed. My son still was not opening his eyes. He was falling sideways on wheel chair. She The nurse was adamant and told us to bring our car to side entrance. I protested saying my son is still sleepy. She told us he he will be fine and wake up by the time I bring my car. I brought my car and the nurse was waiting with my wife and son. My son was falling sideways and my wife was struggling to hold him in wheel chair. It was next to impossible to transfer that lump of a body into my car back seat and my wife was holding him in the back seat. When we got home we could not wake him up to get him out of car. We practically carried him inside the house and put him on couch. He kinda opened his eyes after 3 hours. He tried to get off the couch and fell down like a lump twice after 3 hours of we getting home. The entire situation was pathetic. Nobody called to see how he was doing. I tried to call to complain and of course I could not reach anyone in administration. By the way, my son is austistic. We both are physicians. I am a Cardiologist and my wife a Radiologist. But nothing helped. I was worried how they would treat other patients without medical knowledge. It happened almost an year ago and still When ever I think of that day I feel angry. I hope I will never do it to any family. The nursing staff that day were rude, inconsiderate and valued the turning around the room more than my son’s health and safety. What IU did was malpractice. Simon cancer center made me go through my cancer alone. No one would answer not one question I had. Dr Fisher was rude. Dr Ryan patronized me and my quest to get on the kidney transplant list. I begged for counseling and got nothing. Now I have to find another breast doctor at another hospital because this hospital just did not care but to get my money for the surgery. If the kidney transplant team is anything like there breast department..than this hospital is a JOKE!! I expect more from young doctors so should you..

I am so disappointed with IU Health . My sister is on the Transplant unit and I couldn't believe what I saw. The nurses never greeted the family and they always seem disgruntled. My sister's room was dirty, with a full bag of dirty gowns, and you could tell no one hasn't taken out the trash for days. And what makes things worse they charge the patients and their families for parking. The only healthcare network in the state who actually charges their patients to park in their garage. $5 or more and if you want valet parking, patients pay $10 and visitors $20. So disappointed

One would struggle to find a doctor with less compassion than Dr. Dorairaj. I made an appointment to see an endocrinologist after struggling for several years with feeling fatigued, losing excessive amounts of hair, and an inability to lose weight. I requested a certain provider, but was told that she was not accepting new patients and that Dr. Dorairaj was accepting new patients. I should have known better when an “endocrinologist” (I say this because this provider is not board certified as an endocrinologist) has availability within a week of calling for an appointment. The staff I encountered at this facility were all wonderful, so I had high hopes for the doctor as well. However, when she came into the room, it was pretty clear early on that she was not willing to investigate in the least the source of my issues. She looked over some lab work I provided (some very basic thyroid testing my GP has done), and told me my thyroid was fine. She proceeded to lecture me on the importance of diet without any specifics, despite the fact that I told her I had followed a variety of diets (low carb, no sugar, low GI diets) over the past 10 years with little success. She also informed me that “no amount of exercise will create a calorie deficit” which I was already well aware of. I exercise to improve my health; I do not expect to lose a significant amount of weight from exercising. When it was obvious to me that this provider was not going to assist me in trying to find the cause of my issues, I told her I had no more questions. She silently brought me to the checkout desk with no reassurances whatsoever and left without so much as looking back at me. I was nearly in tears when I left. I wouldn’t recommend this provider to my worst enemy.

This hospital hires racist nurses that think all white babies should be sacrificed to wolves. If they are so incompetent as to hire such an awful excuse for a human being, then I would highly doubt their medical competence.

IU Health I can never shake this feeling, as I sit or lay in this hospital bed on the 4th floor at IU Health. I was a Riley Kid then eventually came to IU Health. These particular nurses attitudes and demeanor towards me is somewhat chilling. And I observe how they treat others. From a simple greeting; to full length conversation with those that dnt look like me. They ask them for their needs. They dictate and question mine. I’m not a priority. But only when I change my tone and challenge their behavior are they thrown off. (In and out of the hospital for 25 Years, you know what can pass and cannot pass with your care) This isn’t the only issue I’ve had with IUHealth in Indianapolis. Like the time I had to get down on my knees to clean my restroom with an IV in my arm b/c they didn’t clean my room for a few days. The time a nurse threaten to call police on me and my mom because the Doctor... My Doctor told us to get out the bed walk around the floor. (She didn’t read his notes) The time I left IUHEALTH because only a few weeks after my Liver transplant the team of doctors couldn’t not get on the same page, and I felt they were causing more harm then healing me. Or The time 2 Charge Nurses kept forgetting my pain meds b/c they said “I was the perfect patient” because I rarely asked for anything. So when I did call them I wasn’t a priority. As I lay here today I saw the practitioner nurse that came into my room weeks after my transplant and showed her prejudice. She was unaccompanied by my lead doctor and only when I proved her accusations wrong on why my pain was not under control at that time, did she just walk out. My skin crawled when I saw her, because at one moment in time she had a say on my medical care. Moral of this, is to say, be careful. And share

The medical field sure has changed since I had to leave it 4 years ago due to severe chronic illnesses. I expect the kind of care I gave to my patients for almost 12 years. The gastroenterology department has changed for the worse since 2011. If you have a severe chronic illness along with the gastroenterology illness you suffer with, you won’t get the care you need, because these doctors don’t care to deal with the most difficult cases. They don’t care to do extra research to see what might be going on in your specific case. All I wanted was the same treatment I received 7 and 9 years ago. Instead I got nothing but anguish from this hospital, their staff and even from administration. The hospital I worked for never would have treated a patient as poorly as this hospital’s administration treated me. The needs of the patient exceeded that of staff’s hurt feelings, where I worked. This hospital obviously doesn’t care about its patients. In addition, The Glen Lehman Endoscopy Suite is like an assembly line of zombie staff who just want to get you in your procedure and shove you out the door. My nurse did a horrible job placing my IV, then tripped over it nearly ripping it out of my arm without an "I'm sorry," or any acknowledgment, ignored my medication list I gave her that had all my new medications on it and just went off December's list, and failed to properly assess me prior to procedure. She left me with a garish bruise on my right arm that didn’t dissipate fully until 4 weeks later; Something that would have had me and my coworkers in deep trouble at the hospital I worked at, had I done that to a patient. In closing, seek a different option for actual patient care.

My biggest complaint is the parking situation here. IU makes roughly 19 million dollars a year off of their patients and patients families for parking alone. Every time my husband has had a survey here, I’ve had to pay anywhere from $10-$20 a day for coming and going from the parking garage.

I delivered both of my daughters here. I love the maturity staff all around. I am at a very high risk during pregnancy and Dr. Padillia is a God sent from Heaven, I can't say enough good words about her. My first child was still born, a boy. I was seeing a doctor at Community East. When I got pregnant again, I went back to him. He did not do any kind of testing on me, at 28 weeks I started having contractions, just like with my son. I questioned him and he then reffered me to the Coleman Center. My first daughter I saw Dt. Brobowski, she is not there anymore, but as soon as I saw her she started all kinds of test on me to determine why I lost our son. Come to find our a blood clot got in the way of the placenta and the cord, ruputuring the cord. When I was 32 weeks I went in to full labor. She admitted me to the hospital, she was on vacation and was instructing another doctor. They monitored me for 2 days and gave me medicine to stop the labor. At 33 weeks, I went in to labor again, they doctor gave me an ultra sound and saw a blood clot near the cord, she said it would be best to deliver my daughter. Dr Bob agreed, the head of the department didn't and wanted to monitor me more. I got irate at this time, Needless to say we delivered her at 35 weeks, there were some complications but she is now 21 years of age. We then 3 years after she was born wanted to have another child. I saw another doctor for a year who tried oral drugs on me to get pregnant to no avail. We then saw a fertility doctor at the Coleman Center and started shots. On the first one we conceived our 2nd daughter. She is now 16. I then got pregnant when she was 4. At 11 weeks went for an ultra sound and there was no heart beat. I was going to miscarry. The walked me through what was about to happen and when it started, they were right there for me and my family. I will never in my life forget ALL they did for us and how good I was treated. I love this place. Without them I would not have my 2 angels or my sanity. Thank you all so VERY much..

Christina Casner

EVERYTHING WAS GREAT UNTIL IT WAS TIME TO LEAVE!!! Took security more than 1 AND A HALF HOURS to bring my money to me and my ride WAS NOT allowed to park outside according to valet even though the nurse said he could. Thanks for keeping me 2 hours longer than I had to! I hope you enjoy sucking money from insurance companies!

Don't have a loved one put on the 6th floor. The nursing staff is horrific. They're too busy texting, talking, and primping. They so mistreated my grandson, making him feel like he was a baby because he had post operative pain. They refused to give him proper medications, change his sheets, or assist in his bathe. He had major surgery after a year of 6 rounds of chemo and 2 stem cell transplants. My grandson is anything but a baby. When we discussed proper paid meds with Dr. Richard Foster, he was arrogant and rude. My grandson's mother is a practicing pediatric nurse practitioner at University of Florida Shands Hospital in Gainesville FL. She stayed with her son throughout his year old ordeal at Shands. He was treated with dignity and respect and gentle loving care. None of that did he receive at IU. The nurses and doctors made him swallow pills for nausea; imagine one constantly throwing up and being given pills! THEY ARE CRUEL, HEARTLESS, AND UNPROFESSIONAL. Dr. Richard Foster is an arrogant man playing God.

Susan Johnsongreenfield

My daughter had major surgery at IU. We had extremely good people to take care of her, from Dr. House to nurses and doctors, and to the people who cleaned her room. I will be forever grateful.

The board members should know of the abuse that goes on in this place. They are taking care of my wife. it shouldnt take them an hour to help someone that needs to go to the restroom and the patients should not be getting yelled at. Watch your loved ones at this hospital .some of their nurses have bad attitudes and are very lazy. Nurse Kim on the second floor unit is rude and have a bad attitude and does not care about patients and their familiy. She lies and calls security after she lies.

Lisa Gingerich

Great hospital! They always treated my dad with respect and tried everything they could to help. Lisa Poe in valet was especially nice to my family. She helped my mom when the rest of our family couldn't be there. She's a great hugger and even prayed with us.

Rebecca Guess

Dr. Zyromski saved my life. He is amazing! The nurses in the ICU were truly outstanding. They took excellent care of me and they were also so kind and attentive to my family. All of the Physicians that I saw throughout my stay were impeccable. I would highly recommend this hospital.

Why on earth do you make your patients, and their loved ones pay to park ? $5 for 30 minutes? $20 for valet? Shame on you!

Doolin Danger

This place needs renovated. Seriously, It's like taking a time machine to 1974 when you walk in. I expected to see people in leisure suits smoking in the lobby... I'm sure the doctors, nurses and staff are great, but damn, it's like that movie "Visiting Hours" inside.

Very large hospital and great staff

Dr. C. Max Schmidt, Pancreatologist Surgeon, is the nicest, most professional doctor I have dealt with in the past 2 years, along with Dr. John DeWitt in my friends long battle with post lung transplant issues creating many gastro problems and now pancreatic tumors. These two Drs are prime examples of how ALL doctors should be trained to treat their patients and the patients support people! Thank you two and your wonderful staff for all you have done for Mr. Ed.

Having 60 years of experience and much of that travelling I've worked with several hospitals and been treated at many others, both here in the U.S. and abroad. IU Hospital remains the best ever with: Up-to-date procedures & medicine, compassionate care, and customer friendly communication. I love the patient portal online, which provides my test results with all the numbers, etc, for me to peruse. And through it I can contact my doctor with any concerns I may have. And they actually answer back! I really feel like my health is a team effort between me and my IU doctor: Michael Johnson, the best I've ever had.

Margarita Wiersema

Dr Benjamin Anthony MD, ENT I cannot say enough good things about this young inspiring Dr. Professional, thorough, explained everything to me, what to expect and then pulled my surgery off exactly as described. His kindness was a breathe of fresh air when we first met. I was scared and very worried. Immediately his demeanor and knowledge of the latest procedures comforted me.

it a good place

Nurses very good see a different doctor everyday except yours will never come back one infection after another very disappointing after 10 months of recovery in hospital every 2-4 weeks exhausting

I don't trust anything they say. Also definitely make sure you read the intake form very fine print.

So my sister had a SCHEDULED surgery today and she has now been in RECOVERY for over 7 hours waiting on a bed. It is an inpatient surgery so it was known beforehand that a bed should be available. The surgery was 4 hours long. We're still waiting to go back to see her! We've now been here for 14 hours. This has been the absolute worst hospital experience we have ever had and I will make sure everyone we know hears about it.

Tonya Lewis

Couldn’t say enough good things about 6th floor ICU!! Ciara was the first nurse we had for my brother was an angel! She made us feel like she was taking care of us as well as him. Thank you Sara the social worker not sure what we would have done with out you! Then 4 south happened he was transferred to this floor from ICU we hardly ever saw anyone without asking! He was not allowed up by his self but getting someone there was another story. He was supposed to walk 3 to 4 times a day and was told we will if we have time! Wrong answer. I understand staffing may have been low but every patient deserves the care they are supposed to receive! Several other things that are personal happened during his stay. When he was dismissed to another facility from here we get a call from the hospital pharmacy looking for him his prescriptions didn’t make it out with him, Pharmacist told us the nurse on 4 South dropped the ball! Unfortunately they dropped a lot of balls!

Joyce Galvin

Everyone that works there is very knowledgeable and friendly!

Maureen Grote

My husband started in Simon Cancer and had to go to 6th floor. I cannot say enough about the care he received. The nurses are so dedicated and beyond kind. We especially remember " the Jane", Sweet Maggie and hilarious Heather. I know my husband was so appreciative of all of these special ladies. They made his stay bearable and our family will never forget their kindness. He is smiling down on each and every one of them.

Maranda Monaghan

Every time I've been to see family there, they're well taken care of.

Becki Fox

I had two different teams of doctors telling me two different things about my Mother as she was dying. This is by far the worst hospital I have ever seen. The only good thing was the nurses.

Doug Hooten

The staff at this hospital are the best. I had my liver transplant here in 2010. I felt completely at ease during the whole time. Thank you to all the amazing doctors and nurses who helped me through my journey.

Verine White

Although the surgery my daughter-in-law (to be) had was a relatively successful surgery, it wasn't good enough that she didn't have to go back for a repair at the end of two weeks. Since that repair, she has tried to get by w/o taking the opiate pain relievers, but she's having almost no relief! To add insult to injury, though, she can NEVER get past the Voicemail. In fact, 1 voicemail even sends the caller to a 2nd voicemail!!! And still, Nobody picks up OR calls back!! It's Horrible!!! And No One wants to keep driving back & forth to Emergency - Especially having to keep paying for gas & parking & using up the entire family's time!!

Mary Alicia Ray

As for the surgeon and staff at IU Health University we have no complaints BUT we did have a problem with a surgical resident that felt we needed to go home even though my husband was in severe pain with nausea and vomiting just 2 days after surgery. We did leave reluctantly but was in the Emergency Room the next morning with a bowel obstruction. Now if this “resident” had taken the time to exam my husband instead of assuming he just wanted to stay for pain meds that Emergency Room visit and additional 4 days in the hospital may have been averted.

Jenni D

My mom had a kidney transplant and my family and I cannot speak highly enough about the doctors, nurses and specialists that work there. Nothing but professional and nice and helpful. Very pleased with our experience.

Without going into a lot of detail, we had an relative that received some care at this hospital. (not life threatening or anything) Things went okay, but we were not happy with the way she was treated, and not too pleased with the staff in general. Half of them seem to constantly be on their phones. Some were kind of rude. They didn't seem to care. Maybe they just had some personal problems or something. But that's no excuse. Our relative was extremely unhappy also.

Amazing staff. I had a Lifesaving kidney transplant downtown. Dr Tim Taber is amazing

Im actually a patient ATM and some things are good here but there's a few people that work here that have no medical degree but like to come in the room when my doctor does even though I told them I dont feel comfortable talking about my medical and personal problems around her plus just the sight of her makes my blood pressure rise and that's the main reason im still here. Im pretty sure that's a HIPPA LAW violation. Im looking forward to talking to channel 8 WISH TV NEWS today about it. These employees seem to forget they work for my not the other way around. I better watch what I say before I get threatened to have my bedside phone, and t.v. privileges taken away. If at all possible to anyone reading this if you can go to Cleveland Clinic for you medical needs. They are by far the best and the staff won't harass you during your stay

Vicki Shively

Horrible Hospital. From the nurses to cafeteria staff the most rude uncaring group of people that I have ever seen.

Philip Naff

All I gotta say is that they have done a consistently good job overall. Have been an inpatient there for just over two weeks total during three admissions in 2015. They got me a liver in three months when I needed a transplant and have been watching over me ever since. If you need a transplant, come to Indiana University Hospital.

Betsy K

I was there for a week stay in the hospital and received excellent care from all staff and doctors. The nurses, techs, house keeping, and kitchen staff were particularly friendly and helped make a very difficult situation better.

Stephen Robinson

Great doctors lousy service

Very poor experience they did not help my dad like they should have very unhappy with this hospital they lie to your face and everything they tell you your loved one is not just a patient but friend they are liars there and considering it's a dirty hospital they let my dad get sepsis infection they have been in the news google it !! Terrible hospital !!! Love his daughter

This hospital saved my then boyfriends life 16yrs ago July of 2002. We are happily married with two kids now. Dr. Karen Reiger is a God send. This review has been a long time coming. IU Med has held its own right along side Cleveland Clinic, Rileys (both of which he is also are very familiar with), and Parkview Hospital in Ft Wayne, IN. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you for the hard work, patient care and overall heart you showed him for the months he was there.

Patrick Slevin

They saved my life by giving me a liver transplant when mine failed.

I'm confused as to why a work would leave a ladder on the top floor of a parking garage?? I feel like this is probably not the place to do that just saying. Kids could climb and fall many floors or a depressed person anything could happen

If I could give this hospital a zero, I WOULD. My dad has stage three esophageal cancer, and went here to have a feeding tube put in. They constantly rescheduled his surgery, while NOT ALLOWING HIM TO EAT OR TAKE PAIN MEDICATION. This hospital is a freaking joke and if you love your loved ones at all, take them somewhere else. For hours upon hours they gave us “he’ll be in surgery in a few hours” all freaking day, and when he arrived at the hospital, THEY DIDN’T EVEN KNOW HE HAD CANCER. To say the least, this hospital will be hearing from my family very soon. NEVER go here. It’s a joke.

Scheduling a referral to a dermatologist from my IU-GP is weeks to months out for a painful, blistery, burning & spreading rash. All people I spoke with at the various numbers were nothing more than glorified operators referring me back to various doctors office numbers. At one office they even used the excuse that many spring breakers are coming in at this time of year. Good to know they can get their groove on with prescription sunburn lotion or no acne breakouts while I'm going to end up covered head to toe and laid up in a hospital bed like a severe burn victim.

Some of your nurses on the 4th floor need to understand that probably most of the people they are dealing with is possibly having the worst day of their life. It would have been nice if the nurses could have stopped their conversation that was not work related to help when we needed it. It was very rude, unprofessional and very uncalled for. Maybe your nurses re-trained in how to treat patients and their families. Makes me wonder how they're treating the patients when they're alone...........

As a Hispanic male who has been on the receiving end of racism from black people this “nurse” needs to be fired as an example that discrimination against ANY group is wrong.

I would not be alive today if it weren't for Dr. Pascuzzi at Indiana University Hospital. He is head of the neuro dept. and when I first saw him I was not expected to live. That was October 4, 2005. Today is Dec. 18, 2011, over six years later and I'm doing better than anyone could have imagined, including Dr. Pascuzzi. I have been referred to as a miracle and I believe that but it takes a Doctor that doesn't give up and he never did. It also takes a patient that won't give up and I never did.

This is the nastiest hospital I have ever been in. No Bio-Hazard containers in room. Feces being left in bed pans. Air vent are filled with dust blowing right in a patient with COPD. Cleaning staff would not sweep/ mop or replace the toilet paper. This is the most disgusting hospital I have ever seen and the lack of patient/ doctor care is the worse I have ever seen or heard about

Iryna Bondar

Had some experience with IU Health. Not the best experience.

Terri Maynard

I was not impressed with the hospital, the nurses that helped seemed to be lacking in their knowledge of their job. I will give high marks for my Dr. (Dr. Eppley). I'm hoping that I will not have to make a visit to IU Health University Hospital anytime soon.

My daughter is in there right now. She has gall stones and pancreatitis due to a stone in her duct. Hendricks hospital sent her there because they couldn’t do the procedure to remove the stone. She had the procedure done for that yesterday. She was told this morning that they would do surgery for the gall bladder tomorrow. Then another doctor told her this afternoon that no they have to schedule it for for a week from Wednesday. That’s 8 days ! She is still on pain meds in the hospital and they want to send her home with antibiotics and make her wait ! She is just going to end up back in the emergency room for the pain. I ask you what sense does this make ? I would NOT recommend this hospital to anyone and will most definitely tell my friends, family and all of my social media friends steer clear of this place. I thought because of the name IU it would have been an excellent hospital. I see now it’s not

IU Health food is terrible. Pasta and rice always overcooked. Mashed potatoes are always made out of potato flakes, not real. Veggies are overcooked to the point of disintegrating.Everything they serve is made from canned stuff. Once I caught a whole buillion cube chunk in the mesh of string beans. Waste of money, and space in your stomach.

My mother Chynelle Brownlee had surgery scheduled with Dr Kelly Kasper for today at 6pm. They called my mother the day prior to tell her what to do and not to do. She was told not to eat or drink after 10am the day of the surgery. They also called the day prior to see if my mother could come in early and she told them no. They called her again the day of surgery to see if she could come early. She couldn't because she had already made arrangements with her job and I dont get off until 2:30. The lady told my mother that someone may be calling her back. So we get to IU at 4 and they have my mom in dress and asking her questions like what she ate and what time. Mind you she had instructions to not eat after 10. So my mother ate toast and 2 pics of bacon at 9:40 as instructed. Then they had someone come in to tell her they needed to reschedule because she ate before 10 and they claimed they couldn't start surgery until 6:30. Cool because they are the ones who set the time up so late. Basically they wanted my mom to come in early and she couldn't so they made up a reason to cancel surgery. I wouldn't recommend anyone to be bothered with this hospital or doctor. My mother now has to continue to be in pain and has to find another doctor and hospital to accommodate her soon. She also had to wait over an hour to be seen by the doctor for her first appointment. We are very unsatisfied and feel like we are being discriminated against.

The staff, in every facet of interaction, have been nonchalant, rude and short with words. We buzzed a nurse for a beeping machine...25minutes later...no nurse. We waited 1.5 hours. Asked for a pillow.....1 hour later...no pillow. None of the nurses are smiling and most look like they hit up the medicine dispensaries in a regular! Only 1 nurse (kim) and the "Hospitalist" whatever that is...were nice. I wouldn't send my chiweenie to this hospital for a dry nose!

This hospital literally saved my brother's life .. He was at St. Catherine hospital in east Chicago Indiana. He had liver failure and was doing dialysis to keep his kidneys from working too hard. All the sudden he condition worsen he was in icu and we were told that we needed to decide what to do because they had done everything..that was not a option for us he is only 33 years old and the baby of the family.so we decide to transfer him to another hospital . Then someone recommended the university of Indianapolis .. he got there right away tests were done. they found out he had a severe kidney infection that was not even being treated and Given meds that were doing nothing .they started treating the infection right away kept dialysis and now he is home still doing dialysis and waiting for a liver but alive and able to do mostly everything... I really want to thank this hospital for all they did for him in January it's now going to be april and we will soon celebrate his 34th birthday..something we wouldn't have done if i had listen to st .Catherine's hospital. Please always get a 2nd opinion i can't stress that enough..

Told to check in at 4:45am. Well, registration doesn't open until 5:00 am. Except no one shows up at work until... Hmmm, it's 5:20 am now and still haven't opened. Disgraceful.
