Had a precipitous (fast) labor after bad reaction to cervidil. Nursing staff didn't believe me when I said my uterus hurt. Almost had my baby on hospital floor. No doctor to birth baby. Nurses threw me on bed for exam when they finally realized baby was coming, "caught" baby less than two minutes later. Then joked about body slamming me. Luckily baby was ok.

Jocelyn Mcdonald

Very racist.

The visitor parking area is completely inadequate for a facility of this size. Parking was a nightmare everytime.

Sagar K Nageshappa

Too expensive for the simple test.

My name is Terry Chesak and I HAD A PROCEDURE DONE THIS MORNING AND EVERYONE INVOLVED WAS FANTASTIC. THE PROCEDURE WENT LIKE CLOCKWORK and this is why I always choose MemorialHospital.... Springfield, Il. Your establishment has provided service to me for everything from fractured bones and plastic surgery to hip replacement and cancer treatment. Love your Hospital and, as far as I'm concerned, there is no other choice in Springfield, Il.

Wished I went to St Johns. The main doctors are great and they do have some great people, but the structure and timing of the tasks performed by the nurses are completely random. Even if you go out of your way to get a “real” and “calculated” answer to an issue, they just tell you want you want to hear and then don’t deliver on their word. Completely over it here, it’s not just one nurse that’s making me write this review, it’s been the same thing with over 7-8 RNs. If you can’t make it to our room or be back at the time you said, that’s fine, but let us know the “new” timing of things, so we don’t fee disappointed over and over again, and left in the dark. Very unprofessional and amateur hour here at Memorial. Too add icing on this crappy cake, we also had to move rooms 3 times with no reason why, just vague answers. The showers and bathrooms in these rooms look like they were built in the 80s, and many appliances within these rooms don’t even work properly. Maybe they should update their computer software and have a transparent action item list that multiple nurses and rooms can all see. Rather that hearing a nurse’s word it would be nicer to have them log it in their system for follow up. Then it’s no longer a guessing game, there would be structure to this madness here. UPDATE. Since I posted this. The staff has been absolutely amazing across the board. Idk if a manger saw this but we’ve had an amazing experience the last 12-24 hours and got some free food :) Memorial is quick to say sorry I guess, I would come back here anytime and I’m thankful for a happy wife and beautiful daughter. Thanks again Memorial !

To Whom It May Concern; On 12/22/2017 my sister came to the hospital because she was SOB and having severe pain in her right leg. She have a history of blood clots in her right leg which is swollen from knee on down to her foot. She stated the following what happened;@@@ *She been sitting in the waiting room since 12:30P and was put in a room then sat there an hour before being seen by a doctor. *The reception was very rude to her when she asked was her name called because she thought her name was called. The triage nurse stated she didn't call nobody and walked away. *Her gait was unsteady and was not offered a wheelchair. She had to request for one. *Her O2 sat was taken but the nurse wouldn't give her the results. They had to notice that she was having a hard time breathing, Yet they didn't even put her on any oxygen. *The RN name Sandy was very rude to her. As she was looking at the nurse name tag to get her name so she could make an complaint. The RN notice and became even more out of order. Stating that she can see her name all she wanted. They not going to do anything about it. *They finally took her to an room but she still had to wait another two hours The doctor came in to examine her right leg and stated that he believes that she have another blood clots. And order some blood work and a ultrasound to verified that she have blood clots in her right leg, *After the lab work and ultrasound was done then they took her back to the waiting room to wait some more. *The doctor came to the waiting room with her result but instead of taking her to a private room he spoke to her out in the waiting room and told her in front of the people in the waiting room her results. Whatever happen to HIPPA. I tried to find out how she was doing but was meet with resistance. I want to give you a "0" but there's not a symbol for it. Everyone was rude and disrespectful. They treated 'black people with disrespect made the situation but treat white people better. Made her wait in the waiting room for hours.Nurse Sandy stated to her that they don't consider blood clots serious. I feel that they don't want black people to come there. They need more training.

Daughter, in GREAT pain, taken back quickly as referred from prompt care, wonderful staff, but when decision made for kidney sonogram, they told us to wait in waiting room as radiology get hervthere. No help up, out to chair, and been here for over half hour, while she is in agony and no way comfortable on a waiting room chair. Tacky, pathetic and shameful.

Just wanted to say thank you to your amazing staff. Security, reception, nursing, a amazing surgeon. You have all been amazing my family appreciates starting my mom of a amazing path to recovery.

Jqwesha White

They’ll just barely see you in the emergency room spent more time in pain than actually getting help, it wasn’t busy at all and will just prescribe you something just to rid of you.

Carly Carlton

My Mom's friend went to the emergency room. She had been sick for weeks and she is a veteran so she was trying to get authorization to get treatment and it was VERY slow moving. She got to the point that she could barely stand. She was throwing up all the time and had eaten very little - she lost over 45 lbs in 4 weeks. Essentially she is slowly dying, but because of the VA/Medicaid red tap - she is having a lot of trouble getting the help he needs. She waited 10 hours in the emergency room with NO doctor visit and only 1 bag of fluids. She could not drink or eat anything and when she asked the nurse for more fluids - she said that she could not give her anything without a doctor authorization. When she asked when she could see a doctor, she was told that she could sit her another 10 hours before that could happen because they were busy. She asked for something to eat - anything small maybe applesauce - and she told her she had only eaten 3 tablespoons of applesauce and 2 tablespoons of chicken broth in the last week because she could not keep anything down - the nurse said "I doubt that" and gave her nothing. She was so dehydrated that when they put the IV in it really hurt - she believed that they did not get it in right or maybe they could try another vein. (She had 3 years of medical training in the military - so she was not speaking without some knowledge) The nurse told her she would just have to deal with the pain. This is not how you treat someone that is ill. This is definitely not how you treat someone that served out country! She left the emergency room without seeing a doctor - she finally got results back the next day from some test that were run on her weeks ago (through the VA authorized process) - it looks like she has a mass in her stomach (also blister in her throat from throwing up so much) and they want to biopsy! Meanwhile - she is still not eating and not really sleeping and still slowly dwindling away! I want someone to help her - no one is rushing! I will never go to this hospital! Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, IL Update. She died of stomach cancer. It was only a few months after this post.

Excellent professional staff always there to help. Me & my mother have never had a problem. We have heard rumours though, for that's what they are rumours. The fact is this is a fantastic hospital. This is a hospital that will save your life if need be. Many rural hospitals are simply ill equip to deal with gunshot wounds third degree burns peptic ulcers in my case etc. Whenever they (the rural hosputals) can't Handel it they typically send you to Springfield memorial & with good reason. If I need a bandaid I'll go to my local, if I'm seriously injured I'll go here. At least I know they won't mess up what they gotta do. & at least these guys know their training & got over 120 years of being a hospital to back it up. They have treated hundreds of thousands over that time.I think that speaks for itself. This hospital has good security too, unlike the one in my local area. I don't have to worry about any problems at this hospital that's for sure. Thanks guys! Keep up the amazing work you all do.

I like Memorial Medical Center. What I can't stand is the outsourced ER to a company called Midwest Emergency Department Specialists. Their billing department is dysfunctional and loses track of previously paid claims every time.

This horrendous place is sincerely downright execrable, if not a genuine worthless excuse of a hospital. Not to mention that the majority of the staff that work here are also a goddamn bunch of imbeciles that absolutely have NO idea what they're doing either! I'd honestly rather die than be admitted here again. Anyone that has the audacity to give this abysmal place 4-5 stars is clearly delusional. Enough said.

Worst experience ever!!! Waited in ER. To be seen 1hr. 45 mins. They put me in a closet no bed. Just a hard chair. I came to Emergency because it was an emergency. Put me on IV's and left the room for 2hrs. The board in the room stated would let you know of delays. Nope!!! Total wait time was 4hrs. Uncalled for. Aren't they suppose to make you comfortable while there. So sick could not lay down. Memorial people would leave Emergency room and go home because to sick to wait that long. I look for a law suit to take place there. Treated horribly. You better get it together Memorial. I will die before I go back there!!!!!!

Went to hospital with a possible blood clot barely walking. Nurse didn't even get me a wheelchair. Sat in waiting room for hour and a half before being seen. Called to the back waited another hour before doctor came in. He thought I had another blood clot( by the way I told the nurses and doctor that I have A history of blood clot in same leg) . Was sent back to waiting room. I was in serious pain. Waiting again another hour 1/2 before I went to desk. Was told by an RN that a blood clot was not serious and that I have to wait until they call me. Waited another hour.. REALLY!!!!!! It's been 6 hours since coming to this terrible death trap of a hospital and still waiting. Oh yes doctor came in waiting room to inform me in front of everyone that I do have a blood clot. Still waiting..... and in pain

Been applying for jobs to this facility for about 4 years now & everytime i apply they reject me EVEN though I’m very qualified.. even for the little positions . It’s just not fair & at this point I’m done trying .

I am not sure how to begin or how to say it but I have a lot of people to thank for allowing me to remain on this earth. First of all, thanks to our Lord Jesus Christ for holding me in his hands and not allowing me to sink into the depths of the unknown. Thanks most of all to my awesome and supportive wife Deb. This whole ordeal was thrust upon her without warning and many life or death decisions had to be made immediately after my motorcycle accident. There were many dark hours she spent with only herself to make life altering decisions. She always made the right call and I will always be indebted to her. I love you Sweetheart and look forward to many more years together. Thanks also to all my children, family and friends who supported Deb and made her know that she was not alone. I owe my largest amount of gratitude to the doctors who saved my life and the staff at Memorial Medical Center who gave me excellent care during my weeks of recovery. From the Trauma, plastic, and orthopedic surgeons, I could not have hand picked a better team to save my life and give me a second chance at living a productive one. The entire staff at Memorial Medical Center gave me such great care, they made a horrible situation a better experience than it was. Always with a smile on their face, they encouraged my progress and success. Without the excellent care and support of the Intensive Care, Intermediate Care and Rehab Units, I would not be writing this today. I have never been so well cared for in my life. To the railroad workers and Life Flight pilots who kept me from bleeding to death, I will never forget your unselfish actions and will come look you up to personally thank you as soon as I am able. I have intentionally not named names because there are so many to thank and I would not like to omit any one unintentionally. Each and every one of you who played a part in my rescue and recovery know who you are. From the bottom of my heart, I will always remember you and be indebted to you all. Praise Jesus Christ and may he Bless you Always as he has done to me. With continuing love and gratitude. Randy Storey

Is this a joke? I found them through my insurance's "Find a Provider" and confirmed with Memorial that they accepted my insurance before accepting services. Now I'm getting a bill from them everything month and a rejection from my insurance because Memorial won't send in some paperwork my insurance needs. Is this real? You won't fill out some paperwork that I legally can't fill out myself?

Love the new patient tower. The rooms are a whole lot better then the old ones.

This has to be the worst hospital on the planet. My wife fell off a ladder in July and the refused to bring her feminine products claiming they had to wait for the cart lady for over 4 hours. My wife was flat on the bed and could not move. She laid there the whole time that way and they would not leave the nurses station. You could hear them laughing and joking around while the patience wait for things they really needed. Now my mother is there and just had Major surgery on her abdomen and they are late by an hour every single time giving her pain meds. The tube that was in her stomach was hooked up wrong a stomach bile spilled all over her and all over the bed even when my sister told them something was wrong numerous times. My sister has to clean it up and clean up my mother because they wouldn’t come to the room. Now they have ripped my mother staples open in her stomach moving her. Don’t ever leave you belongings in the rooms because my mom caught one of the nurses trying to open her purse and had to call the police a few days ago. If you can take the people you care about anywhere other then this place I recommend it!!!! They are hired to care for people and it’s the last thing they want to do!!!

Mother was in a head on collision. Staff took wonderful care of her and we were filled in as to what her status was any time we wanted. There's a reason MMC is nationally recognized in several areas.

Staff is amazing and surgeons are beyond approach but if they don't stop with the construction above my daughters room, just had brain surgery, I'm going to lose it. #itsafter5really?

This hospital is quite possibly the worst hospital in the central Illinois area. Each of my visits were always filled with staff that had no idea what they were doing or didn't really seem to care. This includes the labor and delivery department, ER and general hosipital. I have way too many bad experiences with this hospital to even begin writing them down. Please beware of this hospital. You may not come out alive.

Great health services, good staff as far as their PCP offerings. Fine staff at the front desk.

Visit to the ER in November 2015 was a good experience. Nurses, Dr and techs were all polite and helpful. Our wait was not too terribly long considering an ER.

I spent three weeks on the 5th floor psychiatric ward, and I was initially terrified. But as the time progressed, things got better, the doctors, nurses, and therapists went above and beyond to make sure I was safe to go home, even if it took a while. If someone is feeling like they may harm themselves or others, I recommend Memorial's psychiatric units.

Had a family member admitted to rehab post open heart surgery . He got excellent care by all his nurses and cnas!! Siu doctors and residents were very thorough.overall the hospital is very clean and has a nice layout, outdoor garden, chapel, cafeteria.people you meet are positive, friendly and helpful esp when u get lost. This is a magnet teaching hospital. Their employees get ongoing training to be the best!

Of course no one actually likes going to the hospital, but it makes it easier when the staff is nice. When I went in for a spinal tap not too long ago, the guys who were doing the procedure were very nice and explained everything they were doing. The only problem I had was the wait time before hand. I was sitting in that bed for nearly 3 hours!

Have been trying to contact HR for a verification of Employment for 2 weeks with no response at all.

Horrible hospital. my grandfather had a stroke and it took over 12 hours for him to get an MRI. They didn't turn him and he got bed sores and then they broke his hip when they transferred him from the chair to the bed. He ended up getting an infection from the hip. When he went back to er a couple days after he was discharged for the infection they said they couldn't do anything because infection was too severe. (The one they gave him) it was a horrible experience. My grandmother had a stroke and was at St John's and got the best care ever. Tests were done quickly and nurses and doctors were wonderful. Save yourself the trouble and go to St John's don't go to memorial!

I had knee replacement surgery & the Nurses I had were not attentive at all. I waited for 15 min to go to the bathroom & my husband took me & we got told we weren't suppose to do that. The only one who cared to help me & she was excellent was the CNA, that worked until 3pm. I realize that when you go on Medicare & a supplement you don't get the same treatment as you do when you are on a commercial one. This time my stay was the worst. The CNA was very good & deserves a raise.

Deborah Wright

My mom was in for a surgery and we were updated often by such kind staff. The surgery front desk staff were beyond compassionate and my family and I appreciated that so much. The nurses were wonderful and did everything they could to make sure mom was comfortable and recovering well.

A family member is currently in this facility and will die here as the staff refuses to do diagnosing of any kind. I spent 10 minutes on Google and have a good idea of what is wrong. It requires an MRI and the staff here refuses to do that. I cannot overrule other family members to remove the patient and take him to a hospital that won't just let him lay there and die. Therefore I am leaving because I can't watch this. It is illegal to treat animals the way my family member is being treated. They haven't been sued for malpractice because the patients and their families are too poor. They are poor, therefore expendable. It's sickening that this exists.

This hospital is so incompetent. I don’t understand why it took so long. Do I have to be at death’s door for them to speed along their process? I am honestly appalled and disgusted with their casual brush off of the emergency.

Applied for a job, 9.36 to start, told them I needed pay above poverty level. Now I know how they can afford to keep building more and more buildings. They charged 27,000. Dollars for a day and half stay, and that was just for constipation after surgery, not the surgery the surgery was around 100,000. Cheap greedy employer.

Sandy Ray

I've kept quiet about this for just over 2yrs. This was my experience Aug 27th 2014. I was about 13w pregnant the night of the 26th. Approx 11:30pm i went to the ER bleeding heavily. They asked if i was filling a pad an hour. I told them no, i gushed blood only went i would sit on the toilet. They didn't care. I was left sitting in the waiting room for about 4 hours. Three seperate times i went to the restroom. The second time i passed everything. Each time it happened, i told them. They didn't care. I received zero compassion. The worst part was the automatic flushing toilets. I couldnt even retrieve the remains because as soon as i turned the toilet flushed. So, my baby was flushed down the toilet. They didn't care.

My father Bob Sabo has spent 3 different times in this awful place. The first time my mom and I walk in his room to find him sitting in a chair..He was trying to eat and was choking and had coffee all down the front of him. The next time was even worse. They left him lay in bed in his urine. Never made sure he had good and Never water. They discharged him and refused to send him to an extended care. My mother was I'll and couldn't care for. We were told that that was a social issue..well he came home and after laying in bed in his urine,he became septic. Now he got to spend 3 weeks in the hospital (Thank God in Carlinville). Two weeks ago he had triple bypass..I think they are trying to kill him. Again terrible care. No food water a d God forbid you ask for anything. Thankfully he's now at Carlinville hospital. They take great care of him. I think Memorial should come and take some lessons.

So, today 05/16/2016 I was taken to the ER. My nurse haylie, was VERY professional, respectful, caring and sweet. She did an amazing job at making sure I was ok and comfortable. My Doctor, dr watson aas excellent as well! He seen me right away, got my pain under control and got tests going right away. Not only did my outstanding nurse do an amazing job at checking in on me but my doc checked on me 3 or 4 times and ket me informed on the progress of the test results and all. I highly recommend this hospital! I cant thank the staff here enough! I think haylie deserves a pay raise! :)

I was completely blown off by the drs on the floor. Treated terribly. Pretty much ignored. I ended up leaving on my own because no one wld listen to my concerns & i knew something was absolutely wrong. I knew i was pretty sick. I was having excruciating pain in my left shoulder area. I was actually crying. I cldnt move it. No injuries. I have a Porta-cath for vein access because of a rare syndrome I have (need bloodwork and electrolytes often). I had to go to another hospital because I was told there was nothing wrong & no reason for the pain. It hurt to even breathe because it moved my sternum and shoulder area. I went to Decatur Memorial thankfully and the ER dr there took it very seriously. Longer story short...they did blood cultures that rapidly grew (bacterial infection in my blood). I started running a high fever & they also discovered the pain in my left sternum & shoulder area was from that same infection settling into a joint. It had to be asperated 3 times & I finally had to have surgery to clean all the infection out. It was spreading. I had to undergo several tests (one was a scope down my throat) to make sure the infection didn't spread to my heart (this cld have happened easily since my port, blood, and sternum area were all infected). Very serious situation that was blown off (rudely) by Memorial. I was in the hospital for 4 weeks & had to be on IV antibiotics for 6 more weeks after discharge. I can't describe how painful this experience was or how sick I got. Miserable to say the very, very least. I was ICU, then the heart floor, then orthopedics. I was treated very well at Decatur Memorial & their infectious disease dr is top notch. Don't waste your time here. I'm still in shock how terribly I was treated here. I came in tears & left in tears. A very nice nurse took me downstairs by wheelchair to my ride...she knew I was sick as well & cldnt get anyone to listen to her. She had a unit secretary chew her out for helping me get downstairs since I was leaving on my own. She kindly told her to stay out of it she didn't know what was going on. I thnx you Miss...whoever u r. Thank u for listening & caring. I wasn't faking or exaggerating...I was truly very sick & everyone was too arrogant to even do blood cultures. Infuriating.
