Never go here unless you are prepared for an outrageous bill!!! I was in Chicago visiting my family with my kids and my daughter got a urinary tract infection. She is prone to them so I knew exactly what it was. Unfortunately because we were out of state my insurance wouldn't cover anything unless we went to the ER. So we came here. As soon as we walked in the door I told the nurse what it was. They took my daughters vitals, gave her a Tylenol, we were in a general area for two minutes so she could use the bathroom to pee in a cup, and then we waited in the waiting room until a nurse came, and handed me a script for antibiotics. I got the bill today and they charged a $967 Emergency Room- General Classification charge ON TOP of the lab fees and urology fees!!!!!! WE SAW A DR FOR LESS THAN TWO MINUTES AND WERE NEVER EVEN IN AN ACTUAL ROOM!!!!! WE WAITED IN THE WAITING ROOM!!!!! And when I called bilking to find out what exactly this $967 "General Classification" charge is THEY DIDNT KNOW!!!! Just that it's a Level 3, whatever that means. But they couldn't tell me what the charge was for just that it was for the level of care my daughter received. She didn't receive any! So you charged us $967 to sit in your waiting room???? I lived in Chicago for over 12 years until now and I made sure to tell all of my family, friends, ex coworkers, EVERYONE, to NEVER go here!!!! OUTRAGEOUS!!!!!

Worst Doctors I have seen. They do not want to treat Veterans, I have never been so humiliated in all my life.

I was in the hospital for 4 days for a broken wrist/arm bones. Most of the physicians and nurses were terrific. I was unhappy with one of the nurses assistants who was grudgingly helpful. The orthopedic surgeon who took care of me is Dr. Gabriel Levi. He is a 10 in my book. He didn't promise me anything he couldn't deliver. He is exceedingly compassionate, friendly and more importantly, knows his profession. I've been back for an ultrasound and will go again for a mammogram. The techs I've dealt with so far have been great. Based on my prior experiences, I will use Saint Francis Hospital when needed in the future.

Please! I repeat please! If you love your life do not go to this Hospital. I was hit my a bus and was transported to this Hospital. I arrived at 7 am with probably a hip fracture but no one knew because i never got xray. I laid in pain for 3 hours before i even got Tylenol. The service is horrible and nobody knows what they are doing. None of the nurses or Doctors care about people, only there for a pay check. This place is horrible, they move from patient to patient without cleaning their hands. I cried in pain for 3 hours without a hip xray or any medication. The Doctor looked me in my face and told me everything was fine and i can go home. I never got a hip x-ray and could barely move my left leg and neck. He looked me right in the eyes and lied, and when I told him. I over heard him tell the nurse to get me out of there. I never knew the Doctor or Nurse name. They needed a urine sample and put me on a bed pan and left me for 45 minutes in urine that got on the bed because the nurse put it on wrong and left me. Every time I push the light on for help, they turned it off at the nurses station without even asking if I was okay. I called 911 to send me an ambulance to be transported to another hospital. I acknowledge good work but this place is not going to help you. Thank me later and dont say nobody told you so.

I am so impressed with the kindness of the nurses in the surgical ICU of Presence! They are one of the most professional, efficient and sweet nurses that I have ever met in any hospital. Great attitude and fun and reassuring. Flora, Jessica, Cathy, and all the rest ! Every single one of them are angels. Thanks so much. Ashourina

Terrible service (emergency room) The nurse told me to press the call button if we need anything, and twice I pressed the button and no one came and they just turned off the call light. The doctor told us he would get us more pain medicine, he came back an hour later and asked if it was working , we told him no one came to give the pain medicine. They told us we would go for a CT scan at 1pm, they didn’t take us till 3 pm. I would recommend to go to any other hospital. As we are still waiting for our results and the nurse telling us how busy it is, I over hear her telling the other nurse oh my no one has cut the cake.

TRUTHFUL REVIEW!!!! This hospital isn't so bad. It all depends who you run into. The ICU is Great they really care about their patients! The 5th floor you have great staff like nurses such as: Mekdes, Noemi, Tita, and a few others that are just amazing! Some that have been there I won't mention names can have a strong attitude. The plastic surgeon there Dr. Azizi I HIGHLY RECOMMEND knows his stuff and is great at what he does.

While reading through registration paperwork, I came across the gem of a clause that my doctor may not be in network. I asked to verify that the doctor would be. They told me that was on me. I asked for information and got none. They were surprised when I walked away.

Worst hospital experience ever. Nightmare. Insensitive doctors, especially in ER, for patient care. Poor communications between hospital departments during stay, which put patient's health at risk. Trauma 1 center without a neurologist onsite. Wish the ambulance never took patient to this hospital. Had to move patient to another hospital so that he received appropriate diagnosis and care.

Mary Anne Delacenserie

My daughter arrived at the hospital as a result of an allergy attack. The ER literally saved her life. My beef is with the ICU. Most of the nurses there were uncaring and downright mean to her. They should not be working 12-hour shifts! I was there during the day, usually until 7:30 pm, and I saw a marked difference in their compassion beginning about 4:00 pm. My daughter needed to be restrained one night and I knew nothing about it until she told me after she was home! They threatened her that if she didn’t behave they would restrain her again. Also told her that her mother (me) would be disappointed in her. Mean!!!!! And once she finally got to a regular floor after 5 days in the ICU, the nursing staff was undermanned and not quick to help her to the bathroom or administering meds. Unfortunately this is the closest hospital to where she lives. I will pay for a private ambulance to take her to North Shore if this ever happens to her again!

I came in for a sprained ankle. The staff was so nice and caring. It was a long wait but it was worth it. They had on site medical supply so i left with air cast and crutches!

I went to emergency room and couldn’t talk because of shortage of breathe. Nurses asked questions I had difficulte to talk but I wrote a few sentences to communicate. Anyway I felt nurses were very irritated and careless. I was on and off able to talk a male nurse was joking about me. Emergency room service was poor if someone go there life threatening cituation I wouldn’t recommend this hospital. Not just poor service also not clean bathrooms too.

After hearing all of the bad things about this place, I desperately did not want it to be true and came in here with an open mind. To make a long story short, a family member of mine had to come to this hospital because the Chicago EMS refused to bring her to our main hospital. Very frustrating rule and I tried to fight it the best I could because my family member has a very complex medical history and cannot go to a low rate hospital. Anyways, let's begin. She was admitted to the ER and had very low blood pressure because she didn't eat that morning. Her vitals were so low that they refused to send her to Evanston. They crammed us in a small ER room where we waited for hours. The nurse who attended to us was also training someone else which is very unnerving when you are in the ER. The ER doctor was less then helpful, he didn't know what to do with my mom and sent her up to the ICU. In the ICU she was not seen by doctors, instead two physician assistants who were equally clueless. It was a very frustrating experience. I was actually happy to go to the ICU as I thought it would be better care then the ER but I was disappointed. The rooms were not much bigger and I did not feel confident in the care she was given. She had several labs done which were eventually sent to our main hospital, but they wouldn't even consider them valid...which says a lot. I understand the way this hospital works and know that it is not the best. But it really needs to be improved. I feel bad for people who depend on this hospital to provide care. There really needs to be something done, hire actual doctors for starters.

Was treated with contempt as soon as I walked in. Hell's waiting room for sure

Overcharges patients. I researched a procedure that is done for $1,300 at every other hospital, we had it done here and it costs $8,000. Avoid at all costs.

My wife delivered baby at this hospital a complete month ago. Did not get chance to write review till now. Their services is excellent. Nurses are available very next minute of you press the Help button from patient bed. All the doctors that visited my wife during her stay were great. I now forgot their names i remember Dr. Hannah name who was the main doctor at the delivery time. Excellent doctor, i am not sure how much experienced she had but she seemed well experienced to me. The staff is great that includes pretty much all who i came across with, front desk securities, front desk ladies at family birth place, nurses and doctors. Couple of the nurses who i eagerly wanted to write review about i only remember one of their name, whose name was Cora, Filipino nurse, been serving there for little over 20 years, very smart, knew what she was doing. One another nurse that was there, and i forgot her name but i wrote a letter mentioning her name, and i am glad i at least did that while i was at hospital. She was a young nurse in her early 20s. She was very helpful person. She stop by our room just to check on my wife how she is doing, besides her bi-hourly visit. Overall i had a great experienced with their service. They offer wheelchair service for moms on discharge date. I would highly recommend this hospital(specially for pregnant women). 5 star Thank you Presence Group. Keep up the good work.

I’d love for there to be a zero star option. I took my husband to the ER here on a Tuesday morning. We were literally the ONLY people in any bed in the ER, but I had to flag a nurse down about six separate times to get some help & get my husband treatment for his excruciating eye/face/head pain. Every time I was able to finally talk to someone, all they did was ask my husband to repeat his symptoms, responding with “Yeah, I don’t know what that could be.” then walking away for another hour without checking in. Again, we were the ONLY people in the ER. If repeating his symptoms over & over again would solve his problem, WebMD would’ve cured him two days prior. I won’t begin to pretend that I know what goes into a doctor’s/nurse’s job, but I’m pretty sure sitting around chatting & ignoring patients isn’t in the job description. Run tests. Do something to figure out what the issue is. Better yet, eight hours later they finally decided to GUESS at a diagnosis. They said he had a corneal abrasion & sinus infection. We paid a large fee for them to prescribe some eye drops, which he used for two days. Thursday he woke up with an outbreak all over his face so I took him to a qualified doctor who is mentally equipped to do his job properly. It’s shingles. How easy should that have been to diagnose? At this point, it’s swelling his whole face, his eye, & causing intense pain because it has gone untreated. This was the worst experience I’ve ever had.

Worst place to ever work. They will push aside a certified person and hire anyone off the street to save a few cents. Avoid their OR department. Worse managers ever. All their staff is overwhelm so your dog at the vet might get better care than a human there

Without a doubt the worst hospital experience I have ever had. 2 hours in and they JUST got us signed in. But uh oh, they forgot a few forms of course, so now we're waiting even longer. I could swear the place we walked into said 'Emergency Room'. Oh wait we did because it's a freaking emergency yet they seem to think waiting 3 hours with nobody even so much as looking at your for an hour at a time. Could be dead and they'd be none the wiser. Abysmal service last time I'll ever come here for a late night emergency visit. They seem to think it's a joke here

Arlynne Padilla

The er staff was awesome! My concern is the type of certification is needed to become a pct at this hospital. Not one but 2 different pct who were assigned my mother were not knowledgeable in how to move a patient with how had partial paralysis. They both refer to my mom as not wanted to turn over. Then one of the techs said oh she knows she can't! Really.. so you like to hurt her feelings. Mid changing my mom she picks her ip phone and argues about another patient super loud. So know i know that patients in 3052 only needs an escort to the restroom... why why why why. Do we need to hear this. The topper of my one star is my mom has fidgeting hand and when a nurse or pct approach her bed, they literally tell her DONT TOUCH ME! No compassion, which can tell you exactly how they feel about their work.

I came into this ER by ambulance because of an active GI bleed. I was discharged a few hours later and while sitting in the waiting area for my ride home, I was continuing to have the symptoms that had caused me to need to call 911 earlier that night. I was sent home and rushed back to a more competent ER the next morning where I needed multiple blood transfusions due to my GI bleed not being taken care of by this hospital sooner.

I went to st. Francis at about 2am with server pain and swelling in my left foot. Thankfully they were empty. I was wheeled in to the ER. A gentleman came in very friendly. He made a negative remark about my feet not having a pedicure which I found embarrassing. Even though he was right. Not knowing my fininancial state he should not have said anything. I wasn't there to be told I needed a pedicure. I was there for my swollen painful foot. As far as the care they did an x- Ray and found . They gave me Motrin and sent me home with a script for a pedicure as a joke and Motrin. My complaint it they never drew any blood to see if there was something going on. Later at home my foot went down and there was a hole in my foot which meant I was bitten by something in my sleep. My point is what if I had gone home and died because they didn't try to find out what caused it. I will never go there again. Even my friend for church said the same thing. They did nothing.

Michael Stano

Came in for severe abdominal pain. Doctor confirmed likely appendicitis. It's been 4 hours and very little interaction. Still no CAT scan. Absolutely avoid this facility at all costs.

Never come to this hospital unless your already on your death bed! They don't follow procedures! How do you get registered on the way out the door! Last but not least in January when I came for neck pasums they did not sample my urine until I told them bc the doctor asked" are you pregnant " at the time I was sexually active and told them "I doubt it" not thinking about that as a option! If it wasn't for me reminding them to check my urine! They would have prescribed me muscle relaxers when the results came back that I was indeed pregnant! Over the years this hospital has went down here! The nurses in the er that are at the window are horrible! It's like they do not have customer service skills!! Not to mention since January 2017 , they haven't even been putting patients in rooms bc "they all are filled" st. Francis need to step up there game!

St Francis hospital is one of the best hospital. The nurses are very dedicated to the people. They are polite, friendly, helpful. The Doctors are one of the best in the world. Their ED ( ER )is very well staffed with great Doctors and nurses. I Love St. FrFrancis Hospital, wont go any other place.!

Laura Martinez

I have been twice to the emergency room and both times I feel that the doctors haven't cared to listen and they minimize the problem without providing any truly helpful solutions. My friend had a similar experience where he was experiencing scary symptoms but he was told he was just trying to get off work. Wouldnt recommend this place and I'll never be coming back.

Benjamin Munoz

My friend was there after suffering a cardiac arrest and 2 heart attacks,he passed away, the attention he received in the intensive care unit was unbelievable. They were very attentive and he had no family but they updated us on his condition. I want to thank the doctors and nurses who took care of him in his last. days.God bless you all. My friend name was Robert reichele.

Zainab Kazmi

Horrible service and they take forever to assist patients. Some staff members are extremely rude and some jump to conclusions without listening. Never going there ever again.

phil morgan

Nurses work very hard on the Med/Surg. Unit. Yet despite all of the work, they find time to create an interpersonal connection with the patient. They are caring and compassionate. Very admirable especially in the current healthcare system.

Ed

I have been to Saint Francis on multiple occasions; bloodwork, emergency and surgery twice. Unlike everyone else who is here to complain about them, I actually had a really good experience on ALL my visits. My bloodwork has always been super fast - 30 to 45 minutes every time, less than 15 minutes of wait time. I've had Dr. Jennifer Connor who performed my foot surgery, and numerous nurses who assisted her. Everyone was great, no complaints at all. I got a lot of attention and care as needed and was discharged quickly. Dr. Connor has been great every step of the way, everything from visits to surgery. She did an awesome job stitching me up. My scaring has faded a lot, and you can tell just by looking at it that it was done very well. If you need an orthopedic surgeon, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND Dr. Jennifer Connor.

Went there today at about 1:30pm because I had back pain that was so bad, my legs kept buckling. I was called in by a triage nurse and he could clearly see that I couldn't get up on my own and didn't offer any assistance either. An older gentleman who was waiting to be seen came over and helped me get to the triage room. Once I was done in triage, I went into some room called the "treatment area" and still no assistance from anyone while I tried to walk to the "treatment area". Once in the treatment area, I received a shot and a pill which didn't help. I kept complaining that the pain is shooting from my back and into my stomach. The ER physician was in such a hurry to go home he gave me a BS diagnosis for a pulled muscle. I'm now at Evanston hospital and they've stated my spine is slightly shifting in the tailbone area. Thanks St. Francis for I will never return there again. Whoever receives and responds to these reviews have your security pull up camera footage for 10/25/18 between 1pm and 2pm and you will witness the unloving care this place dishes out! You"ll see that none of your garbage staff tried to lift a finger to assist me with a wheelchair or anything! This place sucks and I'm glad they weren't able to fully check me out...I probably would've died from unknown causes because your doctors and staff are idiots!

Horrible hospital!!!! Especially where they take care of the newborns!

Kim Harris

I'm up there quite a bit and other than the wait time for the ER, which is still better than any other hospital I've ever been to, it's great. The staff has always been friendly and professional towards me. The rooms and bathrooms are kept up and clean, the response time for the nurses is usually great unless there's an emergency or it's shift change and the food is decent. I'm an inpatient quite often. I've got no complaints.

Clie Jones

Terrible do not come here!!! Doctors do not care about you they only look forward to a paycheck. When getting tested, you’ll never get your results back. People in the ER are hateful and have an attitude. You’d think these “Doctors” are appreciative to have a job considering getting a job after College is not guaranteed. I do not trust them nor will I ever come here again.

Christmas Day 2017 here at St. Fransis... from the time I walked in the door, it was the crutial. The SO Called Receptionist was evil from the first words that left her mouth (She may as well have asked me, "What do you want?")....with her initial "Yes?" As she peered at me blinking long and hard with her beige contacts. Let's call her "the dot." My speech is Crisp and Clear and rarely do I miss a beat as I speak the Queen's English. Especially in an emergency situation with my child in tote, who was just rushed into the washroom to throw up for the 8th time today. With every question I answered, the dot's" attitude became more aggressive. She said, I need to see the child. I said , Yes but she's in the washroom sick, throwing up. She said again, I need to see the child? I asked, should I go get her now and let her finish here on your floor or would you like to wait untill her Dad brings her out? Nevertheless, this continues down hill from there as she asked my daughter as she was putting the ID band on..."Soooo, is there anybody that you want to hit or hurt today?!!!" ...as she shot a look at me. Whaaaattttt????!!! Didn't feel good about this entire experience. St. Fransis couldn't help but notice your 3.3 rating.

Absolutely terrible service, stereo typed me and refused to give me more pain medication while I had a compound fracture on my leg. I was treated like the incident was my fault and I was called a idiot by the doctor. Unless you are white Christian male don't expect to get quality service.

Was admitted to the ER on November 3 and released on November 6. Had my gallbladder removed. This was my first surgery. Agree completely with the reviewer who praised the medical staff while stating that the billing and accounts receivable needs work. I had emergency surgeries at St Francis and was there for several weeks as well as readmission later. I cannot speak highly enough of the doctors, nurses, and pct’s. The care I received was excellent from the ER on. The billing and accounts receivable department not so much. Defintely needs work on the admin end but the medical care was greatly appreciated.

I’m nearly at a loss for words to describe the lack of care, drive, and initiative from the doctors at this hospital. Some of the nurses are fabulous but some of them love to trash talk their patients within earshot of their rooms. The poor ethic of the doctors here and total lack of knowledge/empathy on some rather serious conditions/situations and recent medical research is really appalling. I have been treated like a child and as if I just love to come spend my time in a hospital. I’m a real person with a real life, too. I’ve unfortunately had to be taken here multiple times for heart issues related to other conditions I am dealing with and they don’t even put you on a heart monitor/EKG save for the few second 12-lead they do at the beginning—which is of no help if you have intermittent issues that happen to not occur during. The blood oxygen/pulse monitor had a torn cord so it picked up nothing. I was then told “we’ve been monitoring you for a while and it all looks good.” As an educated adult with a heart condition that is being monitored by specialists I know a thing or two about keeping an eye on my vitals. So you were monitoring what, exactly? Your gossip and jokes about the patients in your emergency department? I thought I already had high blood pressure and then I dealt with this place. Clownery. All of it. The strongest self-advocate will still have a horrible time being heard and taken seriously here. I really hate to be that person leaving a review like this for a major medical facility but avoid it if you really have other options.

Don't even wanna give them a 1. Been here an hour and a half, cant see my daughter with no explanation why. The lady Sandra up front, has a nasty attitude and is just plain ignorant. Said a Dr. Richardsin is gonna come out and explain whats going on. That was over 25 minutes ago. As I write this, going on 2 hours with no word. Just over that 2 hour mark, Dr Richardson came out and cant really give a reason why DCFS is coming out or was even called. Will now let me see her. Said they called due to violence. Makes no sense honestly if you think about it. The hospital has been known to release patients without proper care, or dramatic overkill care. Always fun here. For crazy care, ID COME HERE

The worse experience I've ever had in my life. Firstly the ambulance personnel treating me as if 104 fever is nothing. They were trying to talk me out of going to the hospital then put my iv in incorrectly which I took out myself !!! (I'm a phlebotomist. I got to the hospital waited and waited was never given a room sat in a chair the whole time ! My privacy was violated they were giving out results right in front of other people. I had to ask for my other results because they just thought it wasn't important. I didn't get any ibprfrin or Tylenol nothing for my dizziness!! Im planning to file a complaint about this hospital. If the flu so deadly why are they treating flu patients like garbage????? Bastards

Seeing how bad this place has gotten is really disheartening... I have been going here for almost my entire life, and while St. Francis used to be the best place to go, lately I rather go to Evanston Hospital. St. Francis, since it's joined presence, has gone downhill. Their doctors are alright, but the ER is mismanaged and slow. Also, their financial aid for those on insurance only covers bills over 300 dollars, and they will NOT lump your bills together!

Terrible service. I went in this morning for lower back pain that had been hounding me for months, and severe migraines that cause me to pass out. They made me wait 1hr 13 min to tell me there us nothing wrong with my back. Once u told them my mother has MS and I had thought it was hereditary, I wanted a MRI scan, just to check, they refused. The migraine have been going on since I could remember. They gave me a pain killer and a number for a neurologist and sent me home. I went to another hospital and they told me that the right side of my brain is denser then my left after a MRI scan. My lower pain is caused by a strain. Gave me a heated pad for half an hour and pills to sooth the pain. As for the migraines, ran a few more tests and asked a lot more questions before giving me the diagnosis of MS. Thanks for nothing St Francis.

I had a tumor removed here a few months ago, and was very happy with the treatment I received. The place was clean, and the surgeons had no problem answering the millions of frightened questions I had. A few days after the surgery I recieved a call from the surgeon himself checking up on me to see how I was doing, then a week later checking up again.

Horrible! They make you wait even in cases of emergencies !

"Liz" the RN in the ICU is totally amazing, as well as the doctors, but one or two of the other nurses/aides were a lil careless. Other than that, we appreciated all the great service that we received.

My post here is in response to many of the negative posts being put here for the world to see. This is a Level I TRAUMA center. They can take care of ANY medical emergency 24/7 365. You didn't want to go there because its not "Your" hospital....?? Too bad! Its law, EMS should go to the CLOSEST facility. If you want a further ride to a preferred hospital, UBER is just a click away on an APP. Your "records" can be sent electronically in minutes. Waiting room times and so on...... its a VERY BUSY ER!!! They absolutely care about their patients and the ones that come in with the most threatening complaints get seen first! If you are mad enough about waiting in a waiting room or took the time to bad mouth a great ER, your "emergency" was probably not a real emergency. The nurses and doctors at St. Francis are awesome, but get crapped on all day, everyday....by people like you. Walk an hour in their shoes before you ridicule openly on the internet.

Avoid this hospital if you want lab, ultrasound done and you want the result. Completely backward. They don't release your test result on MyChart account and we don't have access to our own paid test.Won't give you your test result and all the departments, the doctor's or lab have no idea. They just ask you to call different departments. The lady answering the phone & the doctor's manager is very rude. All I asked is the result of the blood & ultrasound scan. Never experienced anything like this anywhere else. Please select another hospital if you are looking for OB-GYN and you want updates, details of the tests. I emailed the Amitacustomer care and never got any reply! not surprised!

There are simply no words to express the lack medical care and the lack of empathy at this facility. By far the worst experience!

This hospital is wonderful . They actually go overboard on service. The billing and accounts receivable is lacking some efficiency. Some internal control problems are evident. But I love the hospital!

Nearly two years ago, I gave birth to my daughter here. The staff was so attentive. The care was excellent! I had a wonderful experience.
