Best Hospital experience ever. Was on vacation and unfortunately had to go to ER and was admitted for a Surgery. For a hospital the amount of staff that was kind, upbeat and had a positive attitude was remarkable. Very caring and professional from the first minute entering the emergency room to a few days later, the RN walk with us to the pharmacy. Was very surprised by the quality of the food! Congratulations to a great team. Your work is not easy and my wife and I appreciate what each of you do each day to take care us.

Kaiser doctors are irresponsible. The doctor limited my liquid intake while I had infection. This action caused me went back to ER twice due to dehydration. The doctors here don't want to treat people in order to save money. Easy to send you to hospice and wait to die. I wish Kaiser policy makers themselves or their loved ones will be punished and will suffer from what they do to others. They will be on the other side of the wall someday! My mother had gallbladder surgery a few years ago, and the surgeon cut her wrong tube. She almost died. Kaiser only protect doctors, not patients!!!

I was in the maternity ward from 2/16/16 -2/21/16... The nurses and doctors were great and attentive... They were constantly checking on me trying to make sure I was comfortable... They were so nice and constantly congratulating me and always explained everything they were doing... Aida, Brenda jo krystle and a bunch more nurses and docs were soooooo good I wish I remembered all the names of those who helped me but I had no problem with any of them... Awesome staff!!!

I've never had a problem with Kaiser. Always professional and it is uper easy to book appointments and have several medical centers/ clinics across the Hawaii state and across the continental US. So no matter where I travel there should be a Kaiser near by. I've been a Kaiser member for at least 15 years total. My 26 month premature son was born there in 2013. They made sure he had the best care and gave him the best chance to survive. He is almost 4 years old now and very healthy!! Thank you Kaiser!!

I've been a kaiser patient all majority of my life and I'm going to be 50. Experiences with kaiser varies for me. In California, I hated being a kaiser patient but it was cheap for me to purchase the insurance with my job. Here in Hawaii, it's the greatest experience. My pcp Dr Iwane is the best. He is for all his patients. He is very intelligent and knows the population he works with and the kind of things that might possibly affect his patients. He checks on me and my dad no matter what goes on. He follows our treatments when we are referred out. I love my doctor. I live in aiea but travel to nanakuli to see him. All my other physicians are great whether I have surgery or not, Dr KURAHASHI that's my Doogie howser, young with the mentality of an old medical doctor ethics, checking on his patients even on his off days and being up front with everything. He will take the time to explain if I don't understand. Dr beale oncologist, very big knowledge about cancer plus if he is unsure he will find out so he is very sure and he is down to earth. He tells me straight up about his thoughts and treatments and leaves the decision to me. Dr Matthew Chang neurosurgeon confident down to earth and always has a great smile that makes everything ok. Jodi Shaw social worker and Jackie her assistant have the same heart and ethics as my doctors. The radiology dept mostly the mri tech in the weekend is the best. I'm sorry I forgot her name but I will find out and write another review. She first took care of my fiance great personality and work ethic 6 months after it was my turn and she took care of me with the same quality of care. She asked about how my fiance is and how are doing. She is the one that does great pictures so the doctors are able to care and diagnose the patient. Overall my care at kaiser in Oahu especially moanalua is the best. Even if I come across a problem, trust and believe it's handled with care. To those slandering the facility as well as the people helping them have patience and tell them how you feel. You say it's because you smell that's not true, if your taken in like that they, ER included will have their nurses shower and take care of you if you let them because THEY WILL ASK. If you say no then that's on you because all medical personnel are there to help you and never JUDGE. Like I always say, NEVER LOOK DOWN ON ANYBODY UNLESS YOUR HELPING THEM UP.

Mark Yashada MD, Moanamua Medical Center Kaiser Permanente Hello Kaiser Permanente, Recently, I did a colonoscopy with MD. M Yashada in Moanalua Medical Center. Before I went to the procedure, even now, I asked and was told that colonoscopy is covered all by my medical insurance. When I finished the colonoscopy, Dr. M Yoshida told me that my colon is good, and I will come back for next 5 years colonoscopy as shown in the Discharge Orders & Instructions in my medical report. I understood that I do not have to pay any hidden fee for this. However, later on I received two bill of 62.75 usd and 43,80 usd. I called Mr. Yashada and Kalla D (the person who made the bill). Mr. Yashada said that one very small polyp was removed and no lab for the tissue (I did not accept this remove- It was very small). Kalla told me that the bill I have to pay for the laboratory of the tissue. Mr. Yoshida checked and said it was good, why do I have to pay for the lab of the tissue? No matter what the result was negative or positive, no effect to the result and Dr will do nothing even the result was positive? Why do I have to pay for your activities. I do not need this lab, it was not for my health. You, Moanalua Medical Center, can do whatever with my taken aways, I do not have to pay for that. So I deny to pay for your lab. You have never announced me that lab and the result of the lab, when why that happened and how much I have to pay. Many thanks, CQ

I've had good care here and they've been kind and considerate. For example, I had a sports medicine apt today and I went to where the clinic used to be - making me late for my apt. But they kindly moved things around so that I could make my appointment today. I find most of the doctors very helpful, and I've only had a few instances where I felt like I wasn't even listen to.

My wife had to have a major surgery recently. Doctor Ga was kind and detailed. The nursing staff on the 5th floor was incredible!

This is for all the people who assisted us, from the people who helped over the phone to the staff we interacted with at the Moanalua after-hours care site. My niece and I were visiting Oahu for a week when she became sick. Thought it might be strep so wanted to see a doctor if possible. Called the number for urgent care and the first helpful person quickly created a Kaiser Hawaii patient record number for my niece so she could get care, and set up an appointment for that evening. At Moanalua we saw Dr. Hunt, who gave us a paper prescription we could fill in case the strep test came back positive, which was helpful since we could then fill it closer to where we were staying in Waianae. That night my niece threw up - knowing her doctor at home in California had previously given her an anti-nausea prescription I called the help line again to see if I could get a phone appointment. Dr. Yang called me within the hour and faxed the prescription to the closest pharmacy. Everyone I talked to was so courteous and so helpful, and it made a difficult situation of being sick away from home much more bearable. Thank you!

Haunting experience that suffers me even today. about 5years ago my parents traveled to Hawaii for holiday from Japan, however 2 days later I got call from my mom and was told that my dad was taken to the hospital (this hospital) and he might not come home. I immediately flew to Hawaii and went straight to this hospital. I was explained what happened, and was told that he might have only like a week left. After this, I honestly dont remember what happened because of shock but I remember this one incident so vividly which does make me angry even today; it was when I was told that it's about time that i had to say good bye to my dad, my entire family was obviously crying like a baby beside him, and I couldnt even stand still so was sitting on the floor, crying. and then I saw these people at the reception (i think) near us, were laughing. Clearly they were not laughing at us, but they were laughing. I mean, sure these people never knew my dad and his death wont do anything to them but like seriously? They didnt even bother to show some respect. My dad was a doctor and he would have never hire someone so disrespectful towards patients and their families. But one thing I should add is that, the doctors who took care of my dad was really great, he would give us kind words whenever we ran into each other at the hospital.

I was recently admitted due to complications/CoOccurring infections due to an immune system disorder. My initial stay 9/11/18-9/21/18 all of the staff except one nurse was amazing! The doctors overseeing my case were all very sympathetic to the situation and showed great amounts of concern. However, after being discharged on 9/21 I suffered a reaction to some of the new medications I was placed on during my stay and had to be readmitted on 9/29. I am currently still inpatient for a few more days while I undergo further testing, since being admitted I have yet to see any of the same physicians from my previous stay and my care which has been said to be a complicated situation is now being mostly handled by INTERNS and the attending physician has changed 3 times in one week. I would assume since my PCP is a Kaiser Permanente physician that she would be responsible for overseeing and dictating my care which would just make sense since she already knows the background information that involves my case. They have me in what is called an isolation room even though I've been told I'm not on isolation. I've had to explain my case over and over to the numerous physicians which is rather annoying, but I digress. To my understanding Kaiser Permanente has a no patient walks alone policy which to some extent I see the benefit and why such a policy would be effective for certain patients, but I don't think it's very efficient to make able bodied patients call for assistance from an understaffed unit to do ANYTHING that requires you to leave the bed or even lean down to pick up something on the ground right beside the bed and to add insult to injury you supposedly require a bed alarm to be activated at all times so said patient cannot do anything even something so small as to grabbing a phone charger that fell to the ground without said alarm going off, furthermore there is also an alarm on the door! I thought this was a hospital not a PRISON! It's also not conducive to trap patients in a bed 24hrs a day and somehow think that is going to help them recover. I have back problems that have been exacerbated by done of the testing that's been performed and I've asked for a recliner chair be brought in so I can at least get out of this old uncomfortable bed. Sitting up in a chair would be much better than trying to sit up in this bed. It might be a different situation if you had enough staff to respond to EVERY patients request to use the restroom, take a shower, be walked etc, however you simply do NOT have the staff to provide that level of service. I'm sure if that really is an actual kaiser policy to not leave the bed without a chaperone you are doing it not only for safety but to protect yourself from being held liable in the event a patient falls. Whatever the reasoning may be it's simply not acceptable to trap a person in a room like a caged animal or criminal. If not for the amazing treatment during my last stay I would NEVER recommend Kaiser Permanente to anyone based off my current admission.

Excellent care from Doctors, nurses, and all other service providers. I don't like going to the hospital as probably most others, but at least the visits are fast and professional. I like the ability to check online for lab results and order prescriptions and even contact the Docs. Overall a good experience.

My bp reading during my appointment was 206/81, then 198/75. My vitals were checked, and that was basically it. I told the doctor the medication I was taking while back home, and she prescribed it, without much questions. Yesterday's visit made me miss American Samoa even more!!!

My dad was recently flown from Maui to Kaiser Moanalua. All nurses and doctors that had taken care of my dad were all great! With the exception of one ICU nurse, Reyna. She ofcourse was very nice in the beginning, but because my mom and I were from Maui, we had no other accommodations as this was an emergency, so we had decided to stay overnight and watch my dad during this critical time. While in ICU, Reyna became rude to my mom and told her to stop pressing the "nurse assistance" button (which she only pressed once) on those remotes because she would "wake up the other patients" - now to my understanding, that button is meant to be used when assistance is needed, and this ICU nurse was telling my mom NOT to use this button. Reyna made it seem like she did not want to help us when we were helping her by keeping an eye on my dad 24 hours a day and we would only require attention when we really needed it. She had also made snide remarks about my cousin who is also a nurse, which we felt was so inapproriate and uncalled for. Saying that my cousin was an "inexperienced nurse" - anyway, we did not need to have this added stress brought by Reyna and just had to focus on my dad's well being and ours - Someone needs to speak to her as she shouldn't be allowed to speak to anyone that way. While the other nurses and staff we had were great, and were always ready and willing to help us out. Thank you to Gilbert (when we first arrived to Honolulu) - To Jim and Mabel (ICU nurses) - and when my dad was brought to recover on the first floor, nurses Cindy, Geraldine, Coe, Peter, Rey, Amber, Sophia, Ana, Jr, (I'm sorry if i had forgotten a few names) - but the team on the first floor really did help make us feel as comfortable as they all knew we were away from home and was staying overnight as well. Thank you to our Doctors, Matthew Chang, Lee Ann Clark, and Dr. Kamai. Truly great staff. But unfortunately you have one eye sore in your hospital and she goes by Reyna.

Brought our little tot (1 year old) here to the ER while on vacation with a high fever... the staff was quick to admit her and do necessary tests to quickly diagnose and issue prescriptions. Each and every care person from admissions to nurses to doctors to pharmacists were so helpful, reassuring, and compassionate! Thank you, thank you for giving us amazing care and peace of mind to return to our vacation with hopefully and happier and healthier babe!

Service is excellent. Everyone has a good and helpful attitude. Much better service than Kaiser California.

i've had kaiser medical since i was little, and it's still the same... always a wait before getting called in and another wait at the pharmacy before your prescription is ready... i do love kaiser though... delivered my 2 oldest there, and my last child was there for 1 month after being born prematurely at 32 weeks...

My father's name is Andrew. The doctors at Kaisers kept on recommending hospice for him. He did not want it and they kept on suggesting it. The doctor I came contact in with his final days was very knowledgeable in her field but lacked any emotion for her patient. She would not address him.. She would not look at him. His mind never went, it was razor sharp to the end but she treated him like a vegetable. I asked if he heard every word she said. He said yes. He had to listen in on her conversations with my mother or brother to hear of his medical condition. He made all his own sound decisions to the very end. Home hospice was a nightmare. They said he would be in a coma and go in peace. He struggled with his breathing and suffered to the very end. The hospice training of 1 hour for your father's death was inadequate and took place at the most emotional low of our life. We were fumbling with equipment while he was gasping for air. They had my mother pumping him with morphine to ease the pain. It did not. Can you imagine? My father who was a devout Catholic and never drank or did drugs was pumped with morphine as he was dying at the hands of our family. I was told that eventually the heart stops and the patient dies of the morphine like a drug overdose. Home hospice is the most horrible way to go. Why can't a person be helped to pass in the hospital with professional care? The nursing team was awesome and some of the most incredible human beings are working in the wing of room #590 and I do want to give them all the credit they deserve. Thank you--you know who you are. A million rating stars to you.

The receptionist got a wheel chair for me and wheeled me to the check in desk and then up to the urgent care waiting room. The medical assistant was polite, attentive, and funny and put me at my ease until the doctor arrived. The doctor didn't assume from past history and actually tested for the cause of my cause. Overall one of the best experiences I ever had with medical care.

This is a good hospital. The care that I get from Kaiser is what makes me pay the extra to come here. I usually only have to come to this location if its specialty care, otherwise I can go to the local clinic in my area. The parking here makes me anxious. The turns always make me scared that someone is coming around the corner or that I am too much in the middle. The parking stalls themselves are small. But there is always parking, even though you have to go down towards the bottom. Parking is $3 and can be prepaid when you check in for your appointment (save those receipts for taxes!) or at the gate when you leave. I forgot which days, but they have a mini farmers market here weekly. The food is always good and mostly decently priced.

I was at Moanalua Medical Center with my Father on 6-14-16 for a heart stress test. Wow, it was a very busy day. I felt for the Doctors, Nurses & all personnel dealing with all of that and some not so patient patients. Despite it all they were so nice. Dr. Kwauka (sp?) took time to explain even though he many responsibilities pending. Many others but especially Tim made the long but necessary wait much better by his very nice attitude. Tim constantly checked on us. God Bless you all! :)

Horrible location for those who live in town or the other Windward side of the island. Needs a lot of upgrades and renovations. It sucks that Kaiser has shut down it's services at the various clinics on weekends and there is no urgent care clinic at the Honolulu clinic. Plus note is that Kaiser is way better than HMSA or HMAA. At least I know that if I have a problem, it will be handled right away without endless red tape of wait times for appointments.

Margaret Jose

Waited over two hours for a five minute appointment. Missed my handi-van pick up because of that.

I've had nothing but amazing, attentive and personable surgeons at this hospital. The nursing staff was top notch except for one. And I felt very informed and prepared for the procedures I had done. It was clean and comfortable. I always had a private room too. Love this hospital and it's staff.
