Emergency Room was terrific!!!

I went into the ER because I am eight months pregnant and was having trouble breathing with chest pain. When I went in one gentleman working there provided me with a wheel chair and escorted me to another room somewhat quickly. Another worker there (not sure of the official titles, everything happened so fast) was very good to me and was very soothing as he was explaining what he was going to do, such as hooking me up to ekg, taking my blood pressure, ect. To make a long story short at one point in the room there were 4 or 5 workers assisting me and things started getting hectic because there were two people asking me questions, I was being set up to different machines and during what I felt like was a pretty overwhelming situation one of the nurses inserted a needle into my arm without telling me she was going to do so. I was already alarmed with having difficulty breathing and I hate needles, so this set me off into a panic and I jumped up, since I was not expecting to be stabbed in the arm, and started to hyperventilate. Everyone started screaming at me to calm down and breathe (as if having a bunch of people scream at you is relaxing lol). Soon after this the same nurse who put the needle in my arm came back in and to summarize she made rude comments such as if I can't handle a needle how can I handle labor (this is comparing apples to oranges, obviously labor is A LOT more painful than getting a needle, but that doesn't mean that I have an extremely high pain tolerance and enjoy being stabbed unexpectedly either) and another comment such as how can I be a mother being a nervous wreck (I had every right to be nervous I was having a hard time BREATHING and I feared something was wrong with my unborn child). I am making this post in hopes that perhaps the medical staff will realize that their judgemental comments are not only completely unnecessary, they also escalate an already serious situation ... I may have been having a panic attack and for this nurse, who is supposed to be a professional, to judge me while I am already in a vulnerable state is not only unethical it is completely cruel. I feel as though she is a good nurse who knows how to do her a job, especially in an ER, but needs to keep her judgmental comments to herself and should probably inform patients she is going to insert a needle into their arm and not just stab them and then yell at them to calm down and stop being nervous. Everyone else was extremely professional, ethical, and excellent at their job. UPDATE: Kathleen from shore medical center reached out to me about my experience and I am very grateful that she did so. She ensured me that what happened to me was not acceptable and that something was going to be done about it and was extremely empathetic and professional when listening to my story. She was also very assuring and asked if I wanted to have a follow up call after action was taken and I just wanted to publicly express my gratitude towards her.

Just wanted to say I been to a lot of hospitals but I've never been to a hospital that treat you like family.and cares so much. Just wanted to say thank you And god bless.

Where to begin.... I arrived in medical distress from the parking garage entrance, security was not willing to help me to the ER and did not call for help. After wandering around in the facility, I found it on my own. The ER was relatviely empty as it was late night, however ER staff (other than the attending physician) had no sense of urgency. On at least two occassions the attending physician scolded nursing staff for not doing their jobs, and asked them what was taking so long. Long story short, proper NJ protocols for my treatment were not followed. Followup, my insurance denied a large chunk of my bill due to unnecessary services. Apparantly a blood alcohol test with negative results is not necessary for a stroke patient with a family history of stroke who denies drinking anytime prior to the stroke. Customer service is HORRIBLE. I've recieved multiple automated calls and voicemails from an out of state firm, when I call back at the number provided, either noone answers or I'm put on indefinite hold. Facility security is also horribly poor. On a visit to pickup cat scan films I found myself wandering around the completely unsecure nuclear medicine area looking for anyone to send me in the correct direction. I had full access to MRI and X ray machines as I was scouring each lab for anyone who could help me. Anyone off the street could easily walk in and steal or vandalize equipment in these areas. I wouldn't be posting this if I had not tried to contact customer service at least a dozen times, it just seems they don't care.

U come to this place feeling okay, but not okay enough, then you leave worse off. Very worse off. They try to scare u into staying overnight to charge u a fortune. I left here feeling like death and they should have never discharged me, but then again i do not trust this hospital anymore. my condition continues to progressively get worse and currently being transported to a hospital in Philadelphia by my mother. I sincerely do not trust the care they give here. And I recommend going somewhere else locally if you can like Atlanticare. I dont know what they did to me, but i am too young to be in this condition.

They are the worst!! They get so busy in the ER that they don't check patients thoroughly. You go in literally crying your eyes out screaming in pain and they do absolutly nothing but a motrin and discharge papers. No blood work no xray no anything!! Their staff is horrible, very unprofessional! In short words if you want to die quickly and effortlessly then visit Shore Medical Center they are awesome on letting you just sit there. Rather go to Atlantic Care wait 5 hrs and get the right medical treatment!

Not one of my favorite hospitals but we don't have to many options.

Don’t go here. Burnt out staff with bad attitudes, and they don’t care about you. You wouldn’t trust your children with an ax juggler. Don’t trust your life with these quacks.

I would like to say that we had an amazing experience in the emergency room! From beginning to our transport.....everything was perfect. Thankyou

Worst facility in all of South Jersey, probably the state. Spent six hours waiting on a routine diagnosis, consultation, and treatment in the ER. How competent they may be is lost in how slow and condescending they are. Expect to be ignored for hours at a time. Anywhere is better than this nightmare. Go to Atlanticare.

Absolutely awful. Took me almost 3 hours to be diagnosed with strep when I walked in there knowing I already had it and also told the employees. Nurses treated me and my mother poorly and a couple even made nasty remarks to my mother. A nurse wouldn't even let me get water when I asked for it. All in all worst experience I have ever had at a hospital and I was utterly shocked at how poorly I was cared for.

My father was bought in to the ER in severe pain. He ended up going into cardiac arrest because no one knew what was wrong with him and the EMT never relayed any info given. He passed minutes before i got there. He did not have a bladder and he still had a catheter pushed in. This is not the 1st time they tried to shove a catheter. Every time he was admitted the staff was perplexed with his ileal conduit urinary diversion. They always acted like they never saw a patient without a bladder. I caught the twice trying to insert a catheter. My father even told one nurse twice in one day "i don't have a bladder!. I wouldn't trust another family member here..ever

Wanted to say thanks to Liz B, who stopped in on her day off to ensure that my son was able to get his blood work in. We are very fortunate that she was willing to do what she did. Thanks again, Liz!

The surgical staff were incredibly professional as well as friendly. Just had my knee surgery this morning and it could not have gone smoother! From the parking to the security guard at reception area to the registration to the surgical nurses and doctors themselves, the whole group was great to work with. The facility is outstanding and easy to get to right off the GSP. Thanks to the whole team who made me feel like I was their most important patient!

Debra Nicholls

The doctors, nurses, and the entire staff on the third floor at the cancer center are the most caring, respectful and compassionate people. Thank you Dr Dave, Iraida Melendez, and the entire staff.

Renata Altimari

Don't visit if you expect to be seen within a decent timeframe. I've had bad experiences here, but the worst was crying in pain while they laughed at me, because they thought I was lying. Meanwhile I was bleeding out of my kidneys. Go somewhere else.

I spent a night there recently due to an afib condition. I was impressed with the level of care and kindness of the staff, including the physicians (which doesn't happen often). One person in particular was very professional, kind and knowledgeable and that is Paula Hogans. Thank you for everything Paula. Good luck to you in everything. Adrian

May be the most discusting hospital in the United States. I had my mother transferred out of there, it took the a full day to do the paperwork and they released her to be transported to another hospital after midnight. There was no compassion, care and the doctors were blatantly incompetent. Test were ordered then never completed, she was left tied to a chair with her teeth out. It smells like pee and looks like a scene from One Flew Over the Cokoo nest. Check this place out throughly before getting medical care here.

I watched an elderly woman with a broken arm, tip of the woman's bone poking through her skin get rushed into the x-ray room, where the x-ray tech. took his sweet time lining everything up just right to get the perfect action shot to confirm, *hey this arm is broken.* After that she got carted to her bed by her son, and about 20 minutes later a nurse meandered into her room and said she was going to administer a morphine shot. I watched them wait for another 2 hours in the ER before another nurse came by with the doctor with wrappings for a splint for her broken arm. The entire time she sat in that room, only her son was there with her. I saw the doctor meander in once to inform her hey your arm is broken. And then later when he eventually got around to applying the splint. I guess it's fair to say it was late at night so everybody was working pretty slow, but it seems rather odd to have 7 nurses/nurses aids meandering about at whatever pace they can muster, and maybe a "one and a half doctor on staff" at an emergency room.

After Jefferson took over it is a different facility. I have experienced both; I won't go into the negative of what was, because it improved 150%. I have been in there twice in the last year, and recently outpatient testing. Shore's staff and physicians are what health care used to be about. I am a transplant patient with other medical problems, I also know a lot about my condition. The physicians were very attentive and actually listened. For a busy hospital this hard, but, very important in patient 'care'. The nursing staff was attentive, wonderfully efficient. My outpatient testing was the best, I never felt so taken care of during a procedure. I am grateful for the change at Shore.

DO NOT EVER EVER EVER come here for emergency treatment. The nurses are condescending unprofessional at this point I would say poorly trained. I come in with severe respiratory distress. Starting with triage all the way to the room that I was assigned. Oh your pulse ox is fine. Mind you I'm having severe distress and I'm audible. You can hear me. I work at a hospital and the treatment they give here would NEVER EVER EVER FLY THERE. Go to regional in the city or mainland in mays landing.

The new bldg stands out both good and bad. It is beautiful but it blocks view from older bldg. In this day & age of medical cuts, good dr. shortages, maybe $ should be put into getting mds.from the US, be a teaching hospital, use space better etc etc AND concentrate on bedside manners. What a concept.

Linda Henriques

They were excellent with my son. The surgeon was great and the ICU nurses were fantastic.

My experience at Shore Hospital has been stellar. I have been satisfied with all staff members from doctors and nurses to office reps. Their dietician, Haley Fritz was absolutely wonderful. She really taught me how to manage my carbs which helped me lose weight and improve my blood work.

Rude prejudice talk to y anyway thought I wanted pain medication n I didn’t the docter was very nice the Charge nurse pointed her fingers bring rude I call security n they never show up I suddenly caught a anxiety attacking they were talking abt me but I will complaint with the hippo law rude prejudice nasty nasty nasty hospital

As a kidney transplant patient with many tumors and possible hemmorage, I am extremely disappointed by the treatment I have/have NOT received at Shore ER. I have been sitting here in pain, with my only kidney potentially filling with blood, and they just dismissively say "flank pain" and leave me waiting.... 2 1/2 hours and counting.... IF I EVER see an actual doctor, maybe I will update this review.

I had my first daughter at Shore. Food was good, a lot of the nurses I had were great one of my nurses was terrible. I had a c-section and I was suppose to have pain meds on a timed schedule and she only came when I'd call for her (not like all the others that came by themselves at set times) then when I called it'd take her an hour or two to come to my room. Then when she was there she'd gossip quite loud about some other nurses right infront of me. The thing that PISSED ME OFF THE MOST was a nurse came to check on my daughter and take her for weight and to be looked over (I asked why she was taking her and that's what she told me in response) she came back and told me she had given her a vaccination that I was told could be given now OR at 2 months. I told them I wanted to give her the shot at 2 months since it wasn't really a needed vaccination at the time and I wanted to read the information they had given me at the time. She brought my daughter back and told me they gave her the shot WITHOUT MY CONSENT or WITHOUT ME SIGNING THE CONSENT PAPERS!!! She apologized and gave me a COMPLIMENTORY PEN, yes a pen! She then brought me the consent papers to sign after she had already given my child the shot against my wishes (at that point in time). I am not an anti-vaccination person I just want to know what is being given to my child. The Bella Baby Photography came to take pictures of my daughter the day before I was suppose to leave, she was taking pictures and another nurse came to take my baby to draw blood. The photographer said she'd come back after she was done with my baby. She never came back she got too busy (not a problem). I asked a nurse about her or if she was going to come back the nurse told me "she says she has enough pictures but she'll come take more if you'd like" she was having troubles with her camera and computer and by this time I had been released from the hospital and was free to leave so I just wanted to get out of there. I never received any email of my babies pictures. It was just a bad experience.

Wish I could have rated this place sooner. For minor injuries and illnesses, this hospital will get the job done, but ANYTHING serious.. do yourself a favor and get yourself to Philly before these incompetent fools make you their next victim. There's a reason it's been knick-named "Sure Kill Memorial" by all the locals for over 50yrs! Only gave 1 extra star, for the small minority of good Dr's and Nurses who work there, especially the ones who quietly suggested I get a second opinion elsewhere.

This hospital is the best. Went there after visiting another hospital and they found what the first hospital missed. I was in emergency surgery and they took care of me. Stayed a few days and they were awesome could have asked for a better experience.

I wish i went to atlanticcare. This place is hell. Not my first experience ever either. They try to give excuses on all these pointless tests you need to rack up a bill. They put fear into you. It is not right. Thought maybe they changed but they been like this the past 15 years. Never had problems at atlanticcare. All the nurses at shore were kids! Teenagers with zero compassion or knowledge! I would hear them gossiping about the patients there which was heartbreaking. I mean anyone could here. I didnt have any personal problems with anyone here, but seeing how they talked to patients and behind their back as well was repulsive. The one woman doc in the emergency room was incredible. Very young, but very smart and took me serious. The male one who wears the kippah was very mean though. When I went to shore two years ago i got nerve damage in my left arm that lasted for months. Now i have nerve damage in my face and cant see. Who knows how long this will last! This will be the last time I ever give this hospital a chance. Convenience is why i chose here again in the first place. But i rather receive better care elsewhere.

We are here from out state snd my other half got a call from the doctor saying to get right to the hospital as there was an issue with blood clots. We were taken right in and the staff could not have been more thorough. We were treated like we were the only ones there. They diagnosed the problem and admitted us. I can't get over how caring, knowledgeable and professional the staff is. Not that anyone wants to go to the hospital but if you have to, Shore Medical Center is the place to go. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts

Shore has taken care of us in our times of need. When someone in your family gets hurt it is very stressful. The doctors here are top notch and keep you calm, especially Dr. Tucker and his staff. Thanks again!

The experience was fine from the time I got there to the time I left & this review is more for the billing department. I was sent a bill for $25, granted it was only $25 however I assumed they were rebilling me my co-pay which is $25 and I had paid it that day, so I sent the bill back with a copy of my paid receipt BUT instead of getting a response I received a bill from a collection service! Unfortunately the pleasant woman from the collection service could not help me as to what the charge stemmed from & I was sent back to calling Shore - after being transferred 4 x's then on hold and finally the machine asked for a return phone #. (Still waiting for a call back) All of this could have been avoided if they simply replied to my response from the original bill. I ended up paying the $25 to collections as I didn't want it to go against my credit BUT not even sure I owed it. :(

If you value your loved ones life, choose a different hospital. The medical staff are not only incompetent, they are obnoxious as well.

Leslie Potenski

This is the worst hospital!!! Sorry, but I've been there twice in the last month on completely unrelated emergencies! 1st one was an elderly man 88yrs young with purple swollen legs that were cold? And they sent him to xray?? Which should have been ultrasound? For blood clots? The er doc said it's impossible cause he's on blood thinners! And they don't have ultrasound at 2am? Didn't know blood clots need an appointment? Needless to say the next morning the ultrasound was done and go figure his legs were full of them!!!! Thank God his screen was still in place from 10yrs ago!!!! And now tonight!! My niece 10yrs old was rushed in by ambulance with seizures!!! Even though she was there twice this past week and sent home with a diagnosis for her extremely bad headaches as allergies?? And put her on benadryl??? Well thank God the transport for Cooper were there when she had the worst seizure!! Cause the same er doc as my 1st er visit with the elderly man took 20min to get her ?? Thank God the emts were there!!!! I could go on and on with the numerous bad experiences I've had at this hospital over the years but I'd probably waste a few years of my own!! Telling you about it!!!! Don't go to this hospital!!!!!

Angela Torres

The worst hospital I ever seen cleanliness good but staff sucks got here at 1 pm got in back around 5 still haven't seen a Dr ...how can a Dr order meds when he never came in room

Jacque Carey

The staff on the fifth floor has definitely proved what the meaning of incompetent means! That is the Doctors all the way down to aids, I never felt more vulnerable in anything as I did in the last two weeks, the charge nurse both day and night had absolutely no control over their staff, not one nurse had any clue what was wrong with my family member. The circumstances we were under lead to MAJOR overdose of medication, unsanitary conditions and patient neglect all of which makes you feel uneasy to leave your friend or family member alone in their hands. The staff were for sure not in the field to help people which to me is a huge concern, one day we all might have to go to such a facility and pray that it is nothing like we experienced! Please share this message so we can stop the cycle of abuse! Please make sure you have someone with you to make sure the treatment you receive is what is needed and not a way for them to jack up the bill with unnecessary tests that are not needed. It happened to us and it will happen to you!

My name is Marianne B. I went in for an endoscopy & colonoscopy on 3/26. The day before prep is NOT pleasant. From the minute I got into the procedure room, Dr Ljubich & all the nurses took good care of me. They explained everything. I cannot thank them enough. An extra thank you to Barbara & Adele for keeping me calm before & after the procedures. They went above & beyond. A phenomenal facility!

Lindsay Heller

My mom was just at Shore Medical Center for four days with very high blood sugar and a diabetes diagnosis. We were so impressed with everyone! All the staff were wonderful! Everything was so nice and clean. She was so well cared for. They all answered our questions and helped us understand her change of lifestyle. A few that were beyond exceptional were her nurses in the ICU-Angel and Virginia, her dietician- Margerite was amazing. We were on vacation and were away from home, but her nice room and all the wonderful people who cared for her were such a blessing, we were so thankful to have this great hospital to take care of our precious mother.

Catherine Deschaine

Brought my daughter to emergency room while on vacation July 4th weekend. Was taken into a room within 10 minutes of checking in. Doctor came in to see us within a minute of going into the room. He was very knowledgeable and nice, as was the doctor who took over at shift change. The nursing staff was very accommodating also. I loved the fact that they had a seperate ER area for pediatrics.

My experience at Shore was great, I delivered my daughter there on Good Friday and was released on Easter Sunday, my nurses were amazing a wonderful, but unfortunately I wasn’t seen by a lactation consultant because of the holiday weekend, but had it been a regular weekend i would have been consulted and maybe wouldn’t be in the predicament I’m in now, I ended up having a bad case of thrush which made breast feeding painful but I also felt I’ve had a latching issue, after dealing with the pain for about 2 weeks (so my daughter at that point was a month old) I called and left voicemails for both consultants, granted I know they are busy but also not always in the office for days at a time, which doesn’t make sense to me how this program they run works... anyways long story short I finally get called back days later to be told I could be seen days later and been seen twice for the thrush issue, well the thrush is cleared up and yet there is still discomfort, so I emailed again to be seen just this Monday and it is now Sunday evening and have yet to be responded to, I’ve decided that hiring my own lactation consultant will probably hopefully fix my problem/issue..because like I’ve been telling them I have a latch issue, even her pediatrician said my latch wasn’t right and her nurse helped me with trying to correct it.. hopefully they can hire another consultant and improve their program to help other breastfeeding mothers like me.

put me in a cold corner could not reach nurses call Button, nurses were very RUDE,ask for something for pain NEVER GOT IT!!!!!!!!!! when they did finally come check on me with a pain shot it was something so weak ,it did nothing,so I asked again, the nurse they sent JAMMED THE NEEDLE in my butt cheek so hard SHE INTENTIONALLY MADE THE SHOT PAINFUL,she didn't try to squeeze the area together to apply shot,at this point I WAS sO AFRAID ,NOT TO MENTION EXTREMELY IRATE and sick,I just wanted to go HOME,going to the ER is like going to COURT GUILTY UNTIL PROVEN INNOCENT,THEY TREAT ALL pain patients LIKE JUNKIES and that sends me thur the roof, ppl have so messed that up for REAL CHRONIC PAIN PATIENTS so they choose to treat us ALL like JUNKIES,and that is so unfair,I HAVE SLE(LUPUS) ,IM A TYPE 2 DIABETIC, I have severe nerve damage ,I have FIBROMYALGIA, I have Hypertention, IBS,CFS, Screwed up disc in my neck and spine ARTHRITIS in both feet, left knee, and hips ,hypothyroid disorder, GERD and a Long history of depression and anxiety that leads to panic attacks,so when I come to the ER looking for help with chronic pain does NOT make me a JUNKIE ,I NEED INSTANT RELIEF TO KEEP ME FROM KILLING MYSELF because what I have at home is NOT WORKING ........I HATE SHORE MEMORIAL HOSPITAL,THEY have treated me so BAD ON many occasions ,for those who had a great experience ,Im happy for you, this is my TRUTH
