Horrible experience a few years ago with ER dept. Went in gagging and clearly explained I had been eating steak between gagging....nothing would go down or up! A ten year old could have deducted that I had a piece of steak stuck in my esophagus. Instead, I was drugged with anti-nausea meds to the point that I couldn’t think or talk. (I NEVER claimed to be nauseous !). After a night of X-rays and resting my head on a plastic pillow with no cover on it (the day nurse noticed and helped), I was told that it was probably psychological and they were sending me home. At this point, the med that pretty much made me incoherent had warn off some so I insisted they call GI. Of course, I had steak stuck and they had to perform general surgery! Really! With no medical experience, I could have told them that 15 hours before they drugged me! Horrible experience......incompetent ER doctors.

Gun Ride

ER staff were extremely rude and uncaring. I was in a motorcycle accident and brought in by ambulance My nurse treated me like some low life looking for pain medication. Wrecking my expensive motorcycle and bouncing 40 feet down the road was not what I set out to do when I went for a ride that evening . But the nurse that treated me hinted that I was there only for the medicine. If I could give Uconn a minus 10 I would. After going through 7 hours of some x rays and testing I was released. I was not offered help to the door as I carried my Leathers, helmet ,and boots . I limped past Doctors and nurses to the exit with torn muscles and road rash to wait until my ride arrived. SHAME ON ALL OF YOU THAT CALL YOURSELF S HEROES AT THE JOHN DEMPSEY HOSPITAL.

I like having all of my health providers in one place and I enjoy having all of my records together also.

Went to the hospital with a known problem in need for immediate help. I told them what my problem was prior to them admitting me. They then told me what my problem was (which I already told them) and then they told me they couldn’t help me there. Fantastic service....for a $1,200 medical bill. Next time tell me you can’t help me before you f*** me.

Appalled at the unprofessionalism and medical care. I was taken my ambulance for acute right upper quadrant abdominal pain. The ED doctor was throwing a fit and was extremely aggitated. She was clearly overwhelmed and frustrated. The surgeon basically said the ED doctor (not the same one as I was in ED for about 12 hrs and a new doc came on shift) misdiagnosed me and didn’t know what he was talking about. The surgeon was arrogant and condescending. I have been in the medical field for 38 years and have never been spoken to as if I’m an idiot. I was very insulted by this surgeon. I spent 3 days there between the ED and admission to surgical unit and left without a diagnosis. It is clear he’s not as smart as he thinks he is if he couldn’t diagnose me. The PA and nurses were stellar and the only good thing I can say. They were kind, worked hard and were very helpful. The new part of the hospital was beautiful, clean and comfortable. The private rooms were also very nice. After this experience, regardless of how nice the hospital is or the nurses are, I will never go back to that hospital again. The most important and basic requirement of any hospital is good medical care which includes diagnosis and appropriate treatment-neither of which I received. If I am dying, and the ambulance is driving right past JDH I will tell them to keep driving straight to HH. Can’t wait to see what the bill will be for this sub par service. Very Dissatisfied Patient.

I gave birth here and the doctors and medical staff are really really excellent. However the front desk staff at the women’s clinic are inept and sometimes downright rude. Billing is even worse. I had to have my insurance do a 3 way call to hear first hand that they are inept. They over bill me and act like they have no idea what I’m talking about. A craggy woman with a cigarette voice arguing with you that they didn’t bill you what you said they did- with the bill in your hand and the insurance company saying the same thing-an absolute mess

Be.blessed. Forever

Doctors and nurses are really becoming rather rude. Not much empathy for the sick. I heard a staff member in another room going”back and forth” loudly with a patient. Patients just want to be informed. The kindest nurse there, was the nurse who pointed me to the exit.

My doctor appointment keeps getting cancelled. Time to move on and hopefully find someone who cares. Very uncaring attitude towards patients. You can tell they don't like there jobs. It is very clear that they hate there jobs. Hate is a strong word. The hospital is worse. Overall a bad place. Do yourself a favor and stay away.

I think the doctors and staff at UConn med were the same ones who built the Tower of Babel. I've never seen a place so disorganized, with so many left hands not knowing what all those right hands are doing. The docs at UConn are not happy and as a long time patient, you can just sense that in the air. They aren't running around yelling or complaining, but I can see that all those formerly smiling people aren't liking their jobs so much anymore. Ive also seen more than a few really good MD's depart for greener pastures. I very much doubt that UConn is the first choice of residents when they make their wishlist of hospitals where they want to kick off their careers. It's ironic that the same thing that is happening to their football program is happening to their hospital. It's true.

Enjoy the attentive staff and engage with other people in the waiting room. Put away your cell phone for a while and recall what it was like when we used to interact with each other on a personal level.
