REVIEWS OF Northern Westchester Hospital IN Connecticut

I’ve had multiple surgeries done here, and, have to visit regularly for chemotherapy treatments...every experience I’ve had has been positive. The staff has been great and attentive and caring. The care I received was top notch. I really don’t have one negative thing that I could say. If I need future surgeries, and unfortunately I do, I would only work with doctors who are affiliated here at Northern Westchester. I feel very confident going in, that I’m going to receive great care. Thank you :)

My wife just spent three days at NWH following emergency surgery. Every member of the hospital staff, from the doctors to the maintenance people, were professional, knowledgeable, friendly, and helpful. The doctors were top-notch, and the nurses absolutely fabulous. The only negative is that the infrastructure is not new. For example, I had trouble leaving the garage two of the three days I was there as the machine could not read the ticket, or "ate" the ticket without opening the gate. That said, I cannot say enough good things about the quality of care my wife received. Thanks NWH! You're the best.

Horrible experience they were very slow. I was there 7 hours waiting for them to treat me. Worse hospital ever!!!!!!

Been here a few times, and used the ER. Staff seems a little confused. Wait time is long for the ER. You pay for parking even if you are a patient, or in the ER?

I have been to many hospitals in my life and this is by far the best hospital I've ever been to. I had neck surgery with Dr. Peris. From the day I first visited his office he was easy to talk to and extremely knowledgeable, having done 100's of these neck surgeries. Speaking to him was almost like speaking to a friend. During the surgery Dr. Peris had a team of specialists and nurses watching over me the entire time and keeping family updated every step of the way. Prior to meeting Dr. Peris, I met with many surgeons throughout New York City and across the state of New York. As soon as I met Dr. Peris, I knew he was the right doctor due to his experience and transparency about everything, explaining all of my options including the pros and cons, and his confidence eased my fears. I spent the night at Northern Westchester Hospital. The nurses were amazing and super friendly. I couldn't of asked for a better experience. Thank you Dr. Peris and Northern Westchester Hospital. Now I can rebuild my strength and have a good quality of life. I will finish this review off with the fact that I was terrified about having this surgery, so for anyone needing it, if Dr. Peris recommends it, do it, it's not even close to as bad as you think, it's easy if you have the right Doctor. I can already feel the relief from not having bulging disc's going into my nerves.

My family has been here for too many Heath concerns. It used to be a good hospital, and used to have a good ER. However, after being acquired by North Shore LIJ, the ER wait times have become ridiculously and painfully long- as if you are in a crowded NYC public hospital, even though there is only one or two other people waiting. Twice I brought my kids in to the ER since its been a North Shore LIJ hospital. The first time I walked out after having gone through triage and then was waiting four hours in a room, and the receptionist lady called for me to come back and said that she will get someone to see us. Again, there was such little activity in the ER, it's pathetic that anyone waits hours to see a doctor. Then, the doctor is pretty much like a school nurse who will take your child's temperature and look in his or her ears. Incompetent and not thorough at all. Also a family friend who is a RN at this hospital informed me that the hospital staffing is short because of budget cuts due to the acquisition. All in all, they have a terrible ER and it's understaffed or staffed by people who don't care to tend to patients. It's a shame because it used to be a good hospital with an excellent ER. Also the generic response on this Google forum from "the owner" is apathetic and not good business practice either!

Usually I love this hospital. We delivered both our babies here, hell I was delivered here. So for family emergencies we try to reach this hospital. But they reared there ugly side at me. My 6 month old baby had been screaming all night and me and my wife were so scared that something was wrong. We rushed to the hospital at 3 am on Mother's Day scared that our little one had a serious problem. Turns out that everything was fine. But because our baby wasn't dieing they coded the event as if we were trying to game system and charged us over 1000 dollars. We have good health insurance, and have used the emergency room maybe three times over the last 5 years. So if you are looking for compassion, look somewhere else. Be prepared to document everything and have a good lawyer, because they are gonna try and suck every dollar out of you.

A very professional, conveniently located hospital located off 684. I was BORN here on September 2 1984. I came to get some records and every member of staff was helpful and welcoming. It made the process very easy. The gift shop is small but has pertanant things for a hospital.

Worst patient care I've ever received. I went to Mt Kisco urgent care, and my condition was such that I had to get to an ER. THAT WAS 6 HOURS AGO! Not an ounce of information, care, or hospitality, let alone actual medical assistance. Everything is dirty, and the 7 nurses, & 2 orderlies at the station are just standing around leisurely talking. There is one other patient, & that's it. I don't need anything special, just what's normally expected, and detach the 2 empty IV bags from my arm, it's been 3 hours. Information after 6 hours. Despicable. Take the added risk in an emergency, drive to another further hospital. You'll thank me.

went into the emergency room where I was treated immediately and very professionally. I could not imagine better care

I am very dissappointed with this place. My husband went to ER and spent there 4 hours without any help. Some nurse just came to take bp and social worker that cared only about how would he pay the bill. But no one even asked my husband about how is he doing. He went to emergency room after accident during work!!!! Wouldn't that be the first thing they should care about? Where is patient care and where is the principle of "first, do no harm." To me it sounds like a joke or a sad joke rather. Someone at the hospital said when my husband was about to leave without being seen after several hours by a physician assistant that there are more important patients with more serious emergencies than his case. But the problem is that no one really even came to ask how is he for few hours. As much as I understand that there are in fact more serious emergencies, they should at least let us know that he might be better of to seek medical help somewhere else. I am pretty sure though that the medical bill will be in thousands range just for sitting and waiting for never being assisted or helped by the doctor.

I wish there was an option for no stars!! Went here in pain and left in pain. None of the important questions were asked and it took 3 hours in ER before I even got a cat scan!! Not to mention 2 hours to get the reading. I have never seen a hospital run like this. Won't ever go there again that's for sure.

Nick Spiegel

The food in the cafe is the best. Love the many different options at the coffee bar.

This review is soley based on the billing department. I was treated unbelievably poorly by a woman in their billing department. She hung up on me and when I called back she then mocked me and hung up on me again. Very unprofessional.

I hope the doctors here can fix up my butthole acting brother as long as they have the best psychiatrists Maybe my brother will get straightened up. And Stay That Way

Jill Padawer

Best hospital in Westchester. Most MDS I have seen here are excellent. Nurses also. Friendly staff who want to help. But! Very inconsistent experience in ER that I'd grade ranges from an A to a D-!

Nice landscaping, great architecture, terrible ER. Check the reviews, save yourself, and go to White Plains Hospital! 3.9 Average review score. If you were in school, this would equate to a C+. Do you really want to trust your health to a C+ or to an A ???

Robert Riley

Never been a patient, so my star rating is irrelevant, however, I'd like to comment on the excruciatingly political correct and modern molly-coddle "wellness" and holistic healing b.s. that litters your organization's website. I won't go into a lengthy list, but ... "Radiology & Women's Imaging." What is that? Is there a separate speciality called "Women's Imaging" within the speciality of radiology? And if there is, then I'm sure there are other sub-fields including neuro-radiology, orthopaedic radiology, ultrasound ... what about "Men's Imaging"? Are there any specialists for Men and Men's Health and Men's Wellness?

I gave birth to my premie son on 2/10/17. It was a very busy day for them but the staff was absolutely wonderful. Apart from the standard labor and delivery - I opted for an epidural that went smoothly. They offer many options for a more natural birthing experience as well as options for a pain-free experience. Just ask and chances are they have it! The L&D (extra large!) & Recovery rooms (a bit smaller) are all private with a private bathroom (and shower). The recovery staff was absolutely out of this world. They did everything and anything you asked of them and were all so incredibly friendly. My nurse for most of the time was Lisa and she was very supportive and knowledgeable about our babies NICU plan as well as how to help us out as new parents. She took the time to walk my husband through changing our son's diaper, getting him dressed and walked us through what will be normal and what to do as far as premie expectations. The NICU staff was on point and in touch with everything that was going on with me and the baby and did their best to accommodate our wishes. They kept us informed on every little detail without us asking and brought him to us when he was able to. When it was time for me to be discharged as a patient, I was given the option of staying in a separate wing closer to NICU that was dedicated to parents who wanted to stay while their chicks was in NICU. All meals were provided in the recovery room as well as the special care mom's room (NICU). The hospital provides diapering needs for the baby and sanitary needs for mom as well as lactation support.

Went to the emergency room a week ago and injured my back. After waiting awhile nurse came in to take my vitals and ask me my pain level which was a 10 plus. Seeing I was in pain told me to put on a gown offering no assistance and I was also by myself . Again after waiting another 2 hours dr. Sent me for x-rays at this point my husband finally arrived ,after the x-rays kept waiting again till I was finally given pain killers then again left waiting. Finally I was told not by a dr that they didn't know if it was an old fracture or new fracture , my husband and I suggested maybe a MRI was necessary that didn't go over well they basically sent me on my way and recommended me see an orthopedist ,the name they recommended turns out didn't even deal in spines. My husband and I left went to another dr few days later who automatically suggested an MRI and turns out was a brand new fracture that needs immediate treatment . I really thought I was in goods hands in Northern Westchester but I was so mistaken .

I will never come back to this emergency room again. To start - my room was right by the nurses station and I could hear them gossiping and listing what staff they would sleep with. 99% sure my ER doctor was with them and going with it. So so so unprofessional. To top it off, my ER doctor was with me for maybe a minute. She rushed through the diagnosis. I asked her twice if it was condition 1 or condition 2. She said it was condition 2. Then my discharge paperwork said condition 1. So which is it???

Good food in the mental ward but they won’t let you outside and they do their best to keep their patients over medicated while stripping folks of as much dignity and comfort as possible. Try sunshine & air first before putting folks on intolerable amounts of dangerous & addictive medications. I’d eat the food again tho

Fatmir P

I would give it 0 starts if possible to ER. I don't know how the hospital operates but, if it's any reflection to ER than run away. I have never seen nurses and doctors with less concern for patience than here. And yes, 'response from owner' I will call patient advocate. I'm sure NOTHING will be done as I see people here complaining for months and it just got worse.

Jonathan Davila

My wife had a surgery here recently. The staff was phenomenal, the food was excellent and healthy, and there were little extra perks to brighten her day (therapy dog, aroma therapy, change of artwork in the room). The recovery nurses were kind and patient. We couldn’t have asked for a better experience.

Jehad Yousef

i feel the same i did when i first went. i don’t feel like they did what they could to help me. i’m very disappointed. They also were almost empty and i still spent 5 hours only getting 1 dumb IV.

There are no radiologists to read a cat scan at night. It has to go through Lenox Hill. This is definitely not superior service. Really wish I would’ve listened to my gut instinct and gone elsewhere. I will make sure I give them a bad review once I get a press ganey survey.

My elderly mother had to go for a procedure. She asked to be dropped off at Emergency Room, which was wrong entrance. However, security being more worried with ID, had her walk to main emtrance, and she obviously had trouble walking. Maybe they need re-education that they are at a hospital, not guarding Fort Knox. Offer a wheelchair or , oh my, let her walk through the hospital. Poor people skills!

KAREN PRESSER

I received excellent surgical care from Dr. Grossman and exceptional Hospital care after a hip replacement.

Gyaljen Finasa

One of the best Hospital in this world. Dr John, his team all the nurses and even the security guard all is super good people. Love you all

Sarah Landau

Doctor was not nice, and showed a lack of patience. When explaining our experience to our general doctor afterwards, he was horrified by it.

Mary T

Had knee replacement surgery. Should have gone to The Hospital for Special Surgery. From the hospitalists to the aides, and especially the nurses, I was shocked by the poor care and slipshod management. I will never be an in-patient again. Magnet status, indeed. NOT deserving of it.

ER visit was a complete waste of time and money. Nurse had an uncaring manner and ran a blatantly unnecessary test just to pad the bill. We were no better off after the visit than before. My family and I will avoid this hospital in the future.

Best services.Nice nurses and doctors.I was pleased.

Cat Castaldo

Avoid this ER - Extremely poor protocol for pediatric orthopedics - I would suggest avoid if possible because they don't act like a real, fully staffed ER and you or your child will be treated no better than any other walk up urgent care with the limited services you'd expect. No pediatric orthopedist on call, no setting, no casting - our experience was that they discharged our child at risk for a surgery incident because they were not prepared to deal with a relatively simple fracture. Central location but not worth it if the care is substandard.

I took my mother there and they told her she was pretty much going to die that night. But my mother knew her body better than they did and demanded to leave regardless of what the doctors said. 10 months later she is still here.

This is only regarding the ER Nurse was all business, never a smile, non-attentive until she wanted to be, pout on her face. The ER is usually a long wait but along with that, to have this woman with an attitude was not easy. I asked other people/nurses I know that work at NWH about her and was told I am not wrong about her. Why be a nurse in a place where trauma is all around if you don't like your job? After admission to the hospital, all staff were terrific. But ER left us sour. Shameful

The staffs were very nice , energetic and caring throughout my staying there

On the evening of 10/14/18, my friends and her family were attending a wedding. Her mother was the Grandmother of the Groom and was having leg pain. An ambulance was called and she was brought to the ER. The staff was amazing, they gave her something for the pain, the doctor helped her freshen up her make up and they called a cab to get them back to the reception in time for the reception to start (They only missed the cocktail hour)! After they called the cab, they realized that they did not have enough money on them to pay for it, so the ER staff pooled their money and sent them back to the wedding..Such an amazing story that I feel needed to be shared!!! Great job to all those involved that night!!!

Daryan Cabrera

Doctor had me wait over 2 hours, then had the nerve to blame my illness, not her lack of education in my illness, for my irritation. Repeatedly called the office to get the patient advocacy number and they refused. Signed into my medical records online and see she made up information on my A1cs (which never even ordered blood work to make up these numbers to begin with). I hope you fire this doctor before someone sues you, and trust me, if I had the money to pay a lawyer I would have already.

Tracy Ronnermann

Lovely staff... great place if you are sick best to just visit any hospital in my opinion

Very caring, considerate and accommodating staff.

Ambushed/Beware do not go here for an MRI if you have a choice. I was sent here to get a simple MRI by my doctor. The staff was very polite, professional and friendly. I thought MRIs had become a commodity (as did my doctor) with a fairly known cost of around $1000 +-. I got the bill, $9500. Insurance (in network) knocked it down to $5150. Like many folks, I have a high deductible plan and the total $5k+ charge is on me. A simple check on line shows you can get an MRI for as low as $300. As I have had this MRI before, I anticipated something around $1000. I was there for 45 min, charging $9500 is shameful, charging $5150 is shameful and offers a prime example of what is wrong with our medical system. Northern Westerchester Hospital say the cost is easily found on their web page. Sure! I challenge you to find it. It certainly is not in their MRI section (where you’d reasonably expect to find it)- the section which markets their MRI as comprehensive and straightforward with no indication or warning they charge over 10x what is charged at a standalone radiology centers, one literally a block down the street. There maybe a reason charging 10x market rates (emergencies ect) I don’t know, but when you are so significantly above market rates- and they know they are, they owe it to the consumer to make it clear, prices at their facility are not competitive, and as long as you are able, you should get your MRI elsewhere. OR, they should do what’s right, and charge a competitive price and stop the disgraceful and reprehensible practice of gotcha medicine.

Phawana Chaorinuea

Social workers are incompetent. My step father has been in the psych unit due to Dementia for 4 months. The paperworks are not done appropriately. I have to hire a private case manager to push things along, I basically paying out of the pocket for the service that should have been done by the social worker or their case manager. The hospital staff would not cooperate until heard that a lawyer is involved.

Linda Schrank

The surgeon Doctor Kornel was assuring and had a wonderful bedside manner. The food was good and the rooms are private. My husband stayed over with me. The nurses were wonderful as well as housekeeping.

David Bauer

I recently had outpatient surgery here. The staff was friendly, responsive, and clearly communicated with each other. It was possible I would have to stay overnight and the nurse communicated seemlessly with my surgeon and physical therapist to determine if I could leave and under what conditions. All the spaces were spotless. The short time I was in the pre-op room they emptied the trash twice. The food was surprisingly good. I had two meals during my stay and they were equal to an average diner.

Bonne Carafa

Great staff and run very well.

ME AND MY WIFE WANT TO THANK YOU TO THE PRENATAL CLINIC AND LABOR & DELIVERY STAFF FOR THE ALL ATTENTION THAT THEY HAD WITH US TO DELIVER OUR FIRST AND BEAUTIFUL BABY NAME "MATTHEW" THANK YOU TO ALL OF YOU FOR THE EFFORT, PATIENT AND COURAGE. AND YES WE HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS HOSPITAL.

WORST HOSPITAL I have ever met, the doctor is very rude, let us wait for super long time for test results, when we asked about the status of the test, the doctor shouted at us. 1. Hospital doesn’t follow rules, charge 150$ instead of 50$, the other 100$ should be provided by insurance company. . 2. Discrimination & Bully. No treatment at all, unnecessary examinations that charges high without explanations. Give prescriptions without explanations, very vague, might cause bad consequences. when being approached about the prescription, the doctor accused my wife of contaminating her. 3. Ask patient to wait way longer than promised time, wait about 60 mins, although she said only 20 min. Intentional delay response to patient. When patient waited about 50 min, and asked the status of the test very politely, the doctor knocked at the table, showing very aggressive facial expression and behavior towards the patient, Shouting at the patient " didn't you see I am discussing with another patient"?

Friendly staff very long waits. Paid copay at time of visit as it it generally one of the first people you see in the ER but Northwell still tries scamming extra payments months after your visit. This has now happened on multiple occasions and they have zero customer service so you will waste a lot of time trying to get in contact with billing.

Erik Cabrera

This place is cool saw a birth once or twice and ate a sandwich. My favorite place is the bathroom they have cool toilets. pigeons

Matt Zerbo

Anyplace that keeps my family members alive and healthy gets an automatic 5 stars. The helpful staff is just an added bonus.

Marie H

The staff and physicians were firm, professional and caring. I usually want to run out of a hospital as soon as I am able. I found myself wanting to because the care was so loving and they were overprotective which for is good. I tend be a hard headed patient but I was able to relax and trust my care to them.

Kevin Campise

Had back surgery in July 2014. All of the staff there was very friendly, courteous and professional. Had to stay for five days after and was treated with the utmost care. Food was awesome and the staff was even better.

Geoffrey Russell

LADIES!!!! If you are looking for a great hospital to birth your baby this is the perfect place!!!+, the doctors are amazingly good!! housekeepers, room service and the nurses! Although there was one that wasn't that good. I won't put her name out here because I forgave her and I don't want her to loose her job. Anyways doctor Michael Shaw DELIVERED my baby and he was soo sweet attentive, professional and down to earth. he have a great energy and will make you feel rest assured and safe. The nurse named shardee was incredibly knowledegeful, calm and confident she was The best!! The only mistake they did was leaving me and my husband in the labor room for almost 20 hrs. Wasn't cool!. We didn't deserve that. Specially, I that my contractions started at 4:56am scheduled to hospital at 7:30 am. Overall, I highly recommend it!!❤

The staff was super amazing. Dr. Virany Hillard the nurses and the nursing assistants. I would highly recommend this hospital to anyone.

Jonathan Lyons

Well i didn't love being in the ER, but i need to tell you from the moment i walked in to the moment i left it was a truly professional experience. I found the staff very thorough and concerned. the place was clean and efficient. The staff kept me advised as we moved through the process and in the end the er Dr. was spot on with his diagnosis . It turned out not to be as serious as i thought , but i would recommend to anyone in our community to go there. So my sincere thanks to the staff and nurse Tracy

I was in the hospital on May 5, in the ER with my mother her ankles were swollen and she was in excruciating pain. We saw the doctor who was a lady in her late 50s. She had a agitated look on her face. She realized my mom didn't live in the area and asked us why did we come to this hospital? We explained to her that we were in the area. My mother didn't feel comfortable with the question and I didn't think that if someone is visiting from out of town we can't come to that hospital. I am not sure but I think her name was Dr. Michelle Popkins. PA Williams also was there and a scribe which he didn't record any of the conversation. The doctor also said that she was going to do an x-ray of my mother's ankle but didn't and discharged us instead. She left with the same pain she came in with. The facility is clean they did see my mom right away the triage nurse Christina was great the front desk security was helpful as well. The nurse Bindi Mathew was excellent she had great bedside manners. I would have given the hospital 5 stars but the ER doctor was the worst.

Joan Martin

Ambulatory surgery was a terrible experience. Bed sheets were so thin you could feel and see the bed right through it. Was was extremely small with two people in it. When I asked to be moved to another room because of the number of people and the noise level from the patient next to me I was totally ignored. My stress was definitely increased because of the other patient and their "group". The fact that my request was not even responded to was to me ignoring my needs. In order to relax for a few minutes I was take my IV and go into the too small bathroom and sit there for 5 or 10 minutes at a clip. I was in this room for approximately 3 hours until my surgeon came in and saw the noise and confusion going on the room. He then sent in his OR nurse to help me. I did call and complain another day and was told someone would call me back to discuss the situation. Naturally, I have never received a call. My experiences with White Plains Hospital as well as Putnam Country Hospital have been excellent. I shall have to find doctors servicing other than NWH.

I had to stay at this hospital recently . While some of tge nursing staff is amazing, the ER doctors are an embarassment to any medical field. I recently visted the ER 3 times do to an ongoing uti issue. Once i was checked and given tge wrong antibiotic. The second time i was checked and the dr . Said he'd send a lab culture and never did, yet proceded to give me meds for an unneeded issue. The third time i went in i came across a female dr who belittled my situation and gave yet agan a medicatiin that didnt help . Finally after four times, i went back and waa checked thoroughly and found i had a large bladder stone. I am amazed at how little info or knowledge or even care a well known hospital provided . They are mostly useless as far as helping a person who truly may need help. Most seem to just give you a perscription and wave you away. I find it very wrong especially sonce i expressed my pain and discomfort multiple times and it took four different times before it was taken seriously. Then and only then was it do to another dr admitting me in. Do not waste your time in this place, find a far more caring and knoweledgable hospital.
