The staff are amazing and caring ❤️ Especially In urology unit go above and beyond for their patients.

From my experience, the individuals who gave this hospital more than 2 stars must work for the hospital or be relatives of those that work there. The most accurate rating of this hospital is reflected by the vast majority of the individuals that rated 1 or 2 stars and here is why. 1. There is no communication at this hospital. Asking the nursing staff for anything, especially in the Intermediate Care Unit may get you a dirty glare or a forced smile. It's understandable that they do not know the ultimate "plan," but for the sake of patient care, why have the physician's not clearly communicated some semblance of a plan in the daily floor meeting? As a member of hospital staff elsewhere, I've seen many levels of communication and this hospital gets the worst rating possible. This was limited to the Intermediate Care Unit as the 4th floor was significantly better. 2. The orderlies can be aggressive and lack empathy. After an individual had significant surgery and had asked the orderly to go "slow," due to his pain level, the orderly acknowledged this and then jerked the man up. He screamed in pain and the orderly just laughed. This is possibly the worst treatment I have ever seen a hospital patient get, other than the time I saw a resident stab a man in the finger with a pair of surgical scissors to drain a non-existent paronychia before adequate anesthesia was administered, that was in New Jersey. 3. Physical therapy is overworked to the point of not being able to spend more than 15 minutes with each patient before needing to move on. If a patient needs more time getting up then the orderly will just come and pick the person up instead of allowing him or her to try to get up themselves. This is part of therapy, getting up yourself if you can, even if it takes a while. The PT has so many other people to see and not enough back up that they are forced to move on instead of exercising the patience that they were trained to use when working with these individuals. How sad is that? Our experience in the Emergency Department was actually good but at the time the patient was really sick with a fever, an objective finding. They handled it well and were pleasant. In summation, I would avoid this hospital if possible, there are other hospitals within a couple hours that are significantly better, Darmouth-Hitchcock, probably Baystate, places in Boston.

My husband was admitted in crisis in April and the hospital staff saved him. He has a tough road to recovery, thanks to the staff on the "IMC"/ 2nd floor unit. Each and every one is a professional and really cares about the patient and family. Thank You all---JT

I had the WORST experience imaginable at Mercy's ER. Aside from my pain not being treated AT ALL, the P.A. was dismissive, rude, spent minimal time with me (less than 5 total minutes in my room), and was condescending when I asked questions. The P.A. also ignored my health care proxy who was advocating for me due to my condition and spoke about my medical history, visit, and medications in FRONT OF OTHER PATIENTS IN THE WAITING ROOM OF THE ER. My HIPPA rights were violated.

I was told to leave my Autistic son in the waiting room or have him go by himself to see his grandmother at the ER because her daughter was there. He needs to be with someone. Ignorant.

I recently had carpal tunnel surgery. The staff was exemplary. I would highly recommend.

I went to Mercy Hospital for a colonoscopy. The first doctor told me there was nothing in my chart. She assured me she would get information from the computer but she did not. She repeatedly asked me for a list of my medications. I realized she needed to know because she would prescribe the appropriate dosage for medication during the procedure and despite her assurances that she would find it in the computer, the staff ultimately secured the information through the pharmacy as they were standing by my bed. The nurse found a vein in my hand, told me she was a pro and inserted a needle. I almost screamed and believe me, I have had blood withdrawn painlessly so I know the difference. Maybe she was thinking of something else. I noticed the doctor had told her to do a blood withdraw on another patient and her response had been, "Oops. I forgot." Oops! Maybe she forgot where the vein was on my hand, too. Thank God my doctor arrived to talk to me before the procedure. At least, I knew I was in safe hands with her because I did not feel safe in a hospital with absent minded nurses and an empty chart. Following the procedure, I prepared to leave the recovery room and noticed my papers were scattered all over the table beside the bed. I asked a nurse if they should be left on the table. She quickly gathered them into a pile and placed them in my chart. Also gave me duplicate copies I had signed that I need to have in my possession. Mercy Hospital is chaos, unorganized and downright scary.

If I could give a rating of zero I would. Incompetence at an all time high. Between the doctors and staff, they suck. Miss diagnosis and billing errors. Never mind the wait to get treatment. Do people really have to bring their whole brood to the emergency room for a sore throat? That's what you encounter.

Deirdre Gates

mercy er sucks!!!! there are no real doctors there just stupid PA's

On my visit everyone seems nice, won't complain

This hospital runs hot and cold. 3rd floor icu was wonderful. My mom was moved to the fourth floor and from day 1 i did NOT want her there. She was treated disrespectly first thing in the morning on her first morning there. I watched 2nd shift attempt and complete illegal transfers on my mom. Ive worked in this field for over 20 years and if i was the director of nursing these 2 women would have been terminated on the spot. As is evident by my tone, i am VERY angry. Nobody should be treated the way my mom has been treated. 2nd shift barely had words for her and kind words or im sorrys never came. They need to remember that the people they care for have loved ones. They never know whos paying attention to what they r and r not doing. Not all of us will sit back and do nothing. My next contact is to the state and a formal complaint. I do not want to go there yet so im hoping today was just an off day. I will, however,do what i have to if her care does not improve. Do your research and ask lots of question. Read the reviews and make informed judgement calls. For a catholic hospital, they sure do have some heartless people working there. Mercy means caring. I would like to think that ALL the caregivers that work there are there because they had a calling like i di. If thwy arent maybe they should consider another line of work. Being sick in the hospital is hard enough without caregivers taking unnecessary risk with transfers and being disrespectful to someone who cant get up and walk out. Upon rwading more reviews i now see im actually being to kind with mine. I find my self in total aw because the more i read the more i realize my mom has experienced the same things. She had and episode during dinner that was delt with fairly quickly and we're relieved but at 7pm this evening she had still NOT eaten her dinner. She frail and weak. She needs her meals, no matter how awful they taste, her tray had been thrown away. They gave her cracker and icecream for dinner. We caught nurses or aids chuckling and talking behind our backs and i was actually apalled at the fact that i had to tell them how to care for her. In fact they didnt seem to be aware that she was in pain and they showed absolutly no concern. I want her out of there even more now. I am grateful to the 3rd floor doctors and nurses for saving her life but if not for some idiot in the emergency room giving her too much medication she would never have been put in this position to begin with.

got told to go to the ER after being seen at urgent care on on Cooley street. Had symptoms of vertigo and wanted to get a quick check since my PC doc didn't have a opening that day. Got to the er around 4:30pm, around 40 people I say were in the waiting room, so I knew it would be a while. Not as long as I thought it would be..Great staff but unfortunately due to it being so busy I didn't end up being seen by the actual doctor till around 11:30pm. To just get told what I already knew/ what urgent care told me hours before hand. They didn't want to do any types of scans because I'm (young and healthy) but what if it could be something more...??? Urgent care seemed more worried about my symptoms then the actual ER was... Anyways got paperwork explaining the types of vertigo it could be... to end up leaving there around 12.. so waited 8 hours in the waiting room for a quick 15- 20 minutes with the doctor.. overall terrible experience.

Is a good place but they take a bit to long

I went to visit my father. I was disgusted by the cleanliness of the room. He has an open wound and dust everywhere and in the corners. It is disgusting how you treat patients on the 200th floor. You are professionals and should act as such!

Tapan Pujara

Waited over 2 and a half hours at emergency care. I am in healthcare and I do understand not everything can be instantly attended to and be expected to seen right away. But saying no more than anytime soon to over 2 hours is just not acceptable

Sold me terrible glasses at a ridiculous price, they scratched when placed face down against paper and jostled, hurt and fall apart every couple months. I can't wear headphones while wearing them and they never fit correctly. They have to be readjusted almost weekly and they wouldn't even call me when they came in either time. I had to go over a month without my prescription glasses because of them, I'd never recommend them to anyone.

Best hospital to go to in Springfield area

Was told to be here for 10 am for a procedure, it is now 1:20pm and I am still waiting. Just Horrible waste of time!!

Susan Martinez

Mercy has the WORST billing department.I've been trying to call for 2 months to pay a bill.I've just paying phone tag for 1 hour.I'll be changing my primary care doctor for a Baystate Medical Hospital doctor, where their services are so much better.

Just spent 6 days at Mercy with pneumonia. Excellent care. I was treated well by everyone from nurses to the people that drew blood or took my vitals everyday to the nice lady that brought me a clean johnny and changed my bed. Not one thing to complain about.

Robert Mitzel

Right my coworker here via ambulance. Sever pain and coughing up blood. Currently in waiting room for 5 hours with no help. The absolute worse medical care facility I have ever witnessed. Glad I dont live her. The level of care by staff is zero. If you need help do not come t ok this hospital unless you are okay with dying in the waiting room

I was involved in a serious accident and I was taken into their trauma room... It was a hallway with a curtain!! I had fractures, torn muscles and dislocated shoulders! The staff was very ignorant & I received the WORST patient care!! I was forced into taking numerous unneeded CAT scans and dozens of X-rays! Most of which had to be retaken due to the lack of attention or skill by the radiology techs! After spending over 10 hours being moved from one hallways to another all night long, they finally discharged me! I felt as if i was forced, shoved and kicked out! I had the worst experience in my life at MERCY MEDICAL CENTER!!!

Taiane Oliveira

The nurse from the travel clinic is RUDE! I don't know how she still has a job. I had to take some vaccines there and I had the worst experience ever. You are not allowed to ask her questions if don't want to be yelled at. Mercy medical center as a whole should be avoided.

This is my 2nd time at Mercy and my experiences have been excellent. The staff in particular, the best equipment, and the food wasn't bad.

I went to my primary care physician on march 21,2019 because i wasn't feeling well.My bp and oxygen levels were very low.She called an ambulance,i needed intravenous hydration. Long story short, i went to Mercy and ended up staying for 9 days due to pnemonnia. Every single person from the cleaning staff, cnas ..Drs. Nurses, lab techs and on and on were so good to me.Kind, caring, prompt and of course most importantly professional and super efficient! No one likes to be in the hospital of course and i couldn't wait to get home but if i ever have to go to a hospital again i would definitely choose Mercy! Thanks to all for exemplary care.❤

Layth Al-Janabi

Its not bad hospital, but they got some equipment and departments old and dirty. Going to the emergency one of the worse experiences ever, long waiting, bad attitude and you wait for the medical care way too long when you get in with no food or drink and they don’t allow you to bring any!!?

So I went to the ER and this lady (white, fat with short hair) who asks you why you’re there when they first call you in was RUDE, no respect at all. I was going to explain something to her about my information in the system because the lady from the front desk told me to tell her and she told me she did not care ! Just like that, her attitude disgusted me 100%.

My previous experiences at Mercy in Oct. 2012 surgery, obstructive bowel problem and acute pancreatitis problems in March and April 2013 were super. But on June 19 I had excruciating upper abdominal pain, and arrived by ambulance at 3 am to Mercy ER. I went because I was concerned about a possible recurrence of a pancreatic problem. Because I had no other symptoms like vomiting or diarrhea, I was kept waiting in the empty waiting room for 1 1/2 hours in horrific pain. Finally after 4:30 am I was brought into the ER. Apparently my severe abdominal pains were not being taken seriously. The blood work and x-ray came back negative. More reason for the PA and nursing staff to ignore me. I felt humiliated. I came in REAL pain and left in a cab in real pain at 6:30 am. When I got home, I was very, very sick, still in pain. I went to Baystate ER at around 3 pm, shaking and still in a worsening abdominal pain. Baystate was wonderful. I was treated with dignity and respect. There were several problems Baystate were able to find, one being dehydration and my pain was treated and I left 3 hours later w/o pain, and felt truly cared for unlike Mercy ER. I will never go there again to be treated horribly, and made to feel like I was not having real pain. Horrible staff, horrible insensitivity!! At 60, totally not care for. Baystate ER staff more sensitive and caring!!!!

Night staff at the E.R. was horrible. We waited 2 hours just for the prescription to be written..... and that was after spending 4 hours here already figuring out that my wife had a UTI.

Security staff was extremely rude, I wanted to stand up and strech my legs and immediately I was told "sit down!" Furthermore I arrived at the emergency room at 12pm and was admitted via.ambulance at 12:15. No one EVEN OFFERED a meal, snack or even water. GO TO BAYSTATE, WHERE YOU ARE TREATED LUKE A HUMAN AND NOT A INMATE

Great hospital

Sitting here in er with my 83 year old mother. Her doctor sent her here. She is in severe pain which has escalated since first getting here. We are now on hour 3 and continue to wait. The worst part is no one seems to care.

I spent a week hospitalized at Mercy. I found the nursing staff there to be outstanding.

My wife gave birth to our 1st child here. And it's been a positive experience overall

OMG! I was brought to Mercy because for a substance abuse problem and what was conceived as suicidal. The whole time I was there they did not give me my day to day medication that I needed for depression. I also needed meds for high blood pressure, and type 2 diabetes. No med were given. The night staff by arrow securities were extremely loud all night and ever other word out of their mouth was the f bomb. So unprofessional. If there is a next time I will defiantly go to BMS! I'm so disappointed in mercy. The saying is arrive by ambulance and leave on a slate.

H-O-L-Y ****!!!! My friend was brought by ambulance to this facility for a serious trauma ankle injury. I understand how the system works, i work in healthcare myself, but triaging a trauma pt, and placing them in a waiting room, with IV and pain meds, and waiting 5.5 hours for a bed is NUTS. UNHEARD OF! The doctors do the best they can with what they have. The facility is DISGUSTING and i noticed many code violations. Will never allow any of my friends or family to be transported here.

Elaine Berthiaume

Apparently my experience with the staff at the Shaker Road location is not new when you consider some of the reviews written by other patients. My bad experience was with the office manager so it is no surprise that the other staff members may be following her lead. Rude, disrespectful and dismissive. A trifecta! I tried for three weeks to address the issue with Patient Services, Quality and Risk and Patient Service Coordination. I even called the President ‘s office three times! A complete waste of time and energy as the right hand does not know what the left hand is doing. Mercy Medical, Riverbend, Trinity Health. Internal chaos without follow up or resolution. After three weeks I gave up and wrote this review.

kofi bossman

I love Mercy Hospital the Doctors are very awesome

Need your medical records to see another doctor? Need it urgently? FORGET ABOUT IT. It is far too complicated to have access to your medical records. If you don't want problems in the future do not use their clinic. EVER.

Denise Clark

My daughter came in by ambulance, pregnant and bleeding. They not only made her wait in the waiting room, which on new years eve is a joke, I'm glad an ear infection or a sore shoulder take precedence, we have been waiting over four hours now.........they took blood in the first hour. They did an ultrasound finally in the third hour and now......we're into hour four going on five.....my daughter is starving, she has a three year old at home wondering where her mommy and daddy are......seeing lots of staff passing by the room with their celebratory goodies in hand in and out of the staff only area.....like REALLY PEOPLE......I'm beyond upset, I'm down right livid! Where the hell are the doctors!!!!! My stress levels are rising quickly......

Thmsemrtn37

Terrible. Nurses were especially cold and unfeeling. When I called for help with pain they acted bothered. Like others have said: NO mercy is given at Mercy Hospital. Go to Baystate or to Noble in Westfield if not serious.

Worse service in Springfield.area! Was waiting longer than 3 hours, nobody check on me!

Visited Mercy Hospital's ER recently. The "bay" they put me in was filthy. The floor looked like it hadn't been mopped in days. The trash can was over-flowing and smelled like a diaper pail. I was grossed out. I waited a half an hour just to see a young kid who was a PA. I was in severe pain, but he gave me a script for a steroid. That's it. I don't take steroids, so I left the ER in no better shape than when I went in. I think that due to the opioid problem, they have a new protocol for aches and pains. It is not reassuring knowing that not only is the ER filthy, and the nurses sit around and gab about baby showers and make fun of patients, but you won't get relief for pain either. I won't be going back there again, should I need medical attention. Very poor.

Why is there even emergency dept hardly no patients when we arrive. We left Baystate to come here because there was so much patients there.

Ahmad Doumani

It is good place but not the best went twice into the ER, the ER little bit weird but the doctors do the best they could. My Mom also went to the ER and the doctors were helpful And most importantly I have done a surgery here they didn't let me stay after the surgery, because they said: I could walk, but I barely walked

Abdullah Binmahfouz

Bad service

MayMatt Basak

My husband and I arrive in ER around 4 ish in the pm. He got admitted to the ICU around 7ish. Since we been in ICU we didn't see any doctors here it is 8am and nothing. To top it off the only way to sleep if your in a coma. Because these nurses are extremely loud have no consideration that to get better you need sleep. Anyways mercy hospital will not be mines or family hospital at all.

It's impossible to give an overall review for Mercy because it's huge, and some of the medical professionals I've visited aren't affiliated with Mercy; they simply rent office space here. If this is important to you one way or another, be sure to ask before you make an appointment. This review refers specifically to Mercy Medical Center for Mammography. I'm quite impressed with their professionalism, caring, and the fact that they offer state-of-the-art 3D imaging. This office is *stellar.* I'm heartened that Mercy cares enough about women to acquire state-of-the-art equipment. You'll be asked to read the policy regarding insurance payment and 3D imaging. You should familiarize yourself with this relatively new technology before your appointment. It "sees" what outdated images couldn't, thereby saving your life. Basically, in the unlikely event your insurance won't cover the 3D imaging scan, you'll be billed $37. I don't mean to seem preachy; your life is certainly worth this. If this is a hardship for you, I'm almost certain the financial department will work with you. Tend to your health first, and then the insurance company. But, please; avail yourself of this incredible technology! The office sent me a letter to remind me to make an appointment. This impressed me. I was able to make an appointment right away. Appointment day, I was greeted kindly and seen promptly. In the second waiting room, there's a TV to distract people who are most likely nervous and feel vulnerable in thin pink hospital gowns. There's also coffee, which is a hospitable gesture. It's clean and comfortable. Basically, everything that says "this environment is normal and friendly." I was seen within 10 minutes by a technician who was pleasant and friendly. She was professional and empathetic; she was sure to emphasize that if I got a call back, it didn't mean anything dire, and not to stress. The one thing I had an issue with is relatively minor, and came up while we we talking about aging, specifically women and aging. I'm mentioning it because otherwise, she is professional and amazing at her job. She asked me how old I thought she was. It bothered me. It doesn't belong here. As I stated, it was minor, and hopefully she can learn this is inappropriate. We all "open mouth and insert foot" sometimes. This certainly does not take away from the numerous positives I've mentioned. I received a letter with the results the following week, which I appreciated.

Brought my mother-in-law for what we thought was a stroke that was ruled out supposedly she was admitted she was brought in at 6 at night and never got put in a room to 2:30 in the morning she was here for three days nobody bothered to Bathe or change her johnny she's totally confused has no concept of what's going on around her they're having her signing papers without her knowledge in knowing what she's signing what kind of place is this. Worst hospital ever

Lisa Sorlie

While vacationing in Missouri, a tragic injury changed the course of our lives. Mercy of Springfield refused admittance to my loved one. It was a L2 back break. They looked at her date of birth (in her later 80’s), I believe, and refused to help her. The billing department isn’t local, either. It’s hard to dispute anything. Cox South is right next door. Go there. Terrible.

If you are sick of your life and wanna die a good death go to mercy.. they will show u no mercy and just take hrs to even care for you.. you will die waiting for help... I dont recommend going there...

Worse ER experience in my life. The nurses there should be fired they were horrible. She stuck the needle so hard in my vein I had a black and blue. I was told I wasn't sick but having a panic attack. I later had a major surgery. I would NEVER RECOMMEND THIS EMERGENCY ROOM EVER!!! NEVER EVER EVER
