There are some pros and cons (so the rating is 3-4). My rating is not relevant, since I'm writing this review to notify you that it's my only review of the Connecticut Valley Hospital. My close family members either didn't know how to use computer properly to put their ratings or didn't have Internet access at all.

Good. Not great. Food is awful and too bad you can't smoke. But overall the treatment is pretty good.

I put myself in Merritt Hall Women's Star Program many years ago. It was a very intense program & you were woken up at 5:30 am & were given a chore & were expected to shower & of course we all went to breakfast single file in an orderly file in the order we came in. The first group was morning meeting & roughly 40-50 women & there were group s after group with gym & swimming on at least 2 days out of the week. You were kept busy with various topic group's & NA/AA meetings with speaker meetings which I found very helpful. We went to groups all day untill 9:45 pm. It was a very intense & I feel it was very beneficial to me as well as the other female clients & the majority of us graduated successfully & got alot out of the program. However, my fiace recently arrived at the Men's program which Ibfind a total jokr. They sleep & watch tv during the week & they're groups don't start till after 3 pm & the weekends they only have a few short groups which are a joke.its all about money & needs to be reported.

One of the worst e.r. I have ever been to. Left me 1:45 after I was already called in.

Because it's a Mental Hospital. The Governor is taking away funds for Forensics short work hours for clients. Restrictions from computer use. Little opportunity to recover. Staff are in the news for abuse. I have been abused repeatedly tied to a bed for days weeks didn't get anything to eat. Forced to take medication. Sexually abused by staff and clients and physically. I saw other clients treated worse. The grounds are pretty nice. A lot of condemned buildings.

I worked there during the mid 1960's. We're all insane according to their handout sheets. It took President Regan to put common sense into it. Americans and tourists now have to have a hearing in 72 hours by a judge. Nylon stockings were used to tie patients to their beds spread eagle one on each wrist and one on each ankle. It's a place for humans to get even with Aetna insurance and for children to learn to mind their manners. There are various buildings the odds are high they're still not marked with signs. The administration people should get over their paranoia of the legislators.

Horrible, depressing atmosphere..... The staff is incompetent, lacks compassion, and do not care about the patients. Patients are over medicated and wear dirty clothes. If you purchase new clothing for your family member it is stolen by the staff. There are no activities to engage patients. Many just watch television to pass the time. The food proportions are small. I am in the process of getting my family member out of there. This hospital should be shut down! I hope the Justice department sues them!!

Terrible staff, knew nothing about detox and different people give contradicting information. I call one day and am told I HAVE A BED HELD and I call back the next day and some old lady is reading a script trying to decribe to me what certain drugs do, totally irrelevant for me asking why I am no longer able to come in? This place seems extemely under-aducated and just a cash cow...load you up on suboxone or methadone for 7 days then on your 8th day you're sicker or just as sick as when you came in. Then you end up calling them and asking for help just to be turned down or offered another 7day stay! It's just a cycle to milk your insurance and to deal with the extremely rude staff that just treats you like you aren't a person just because you need help is NOT worth it. I'd stay away unless you just need a place to crash for a week, this place is USELESS!

All staff should be investigated and change...and supervised 24/7 with cameras every where. Please have this place investigated all the time...they don't care about the patients no compassion at all....no medical ethics at all.

The best treatment program run by the state. In fact, one of if not the only one. Understanding, decent food, clean safe environment, lot of staff that been around many years.

Medical necessity isn't "abuse", the fact remains that prehistoric medicinal herb STILL prevents paranoia because it's STILL relaxing. Repeating a lie won't make it true. The myth about "paranoia" has been done to death since the 1930's, and it remains backwards. Medical necessity has no "link to schizophrenia", and the bigots would sing a different tune if they were dying from disease. Medicinal cannabis saves lives. Therapy can't be forced. Anything against one's will can't be therapeutic. Nobody deserves torture. The sadistic staff prey upon innocent people who are mellow, docile, and passive. This is because nice people are easily taken advantage of. Our kindness is mistaken for weakness. I hope this facility will be permanently shut down. The torture was caught on tape. Therefore, it happened. The sadists force drugs upon people and say, "don't do drugs". Now that's stupid! Convulsions cause irreversible brain damage. Electroconvulsive torture erases the memory completely. The victims don't even remember who they are. Some stupid doctor prescribed Zoloft and it made me sick. I was lied to, the misdiagnosis is STILL in the records. Anybody with access to the records won't see my rebuttal, they'll only see the misdiagnosis from a long time ago. The law says not to restrict freedom of movement for any reason other than danger to self or others or AWOL risk. I wasn't allowed off grounds after I reduced the adverse effects of pharmaceuticals.
