Unfortunately we’ve had 2 hospitalizations in the past 2 years, but both times the Doctors and support staff were very professional and pleasant to deal with. There were a few people that were less than stellar, but the majority of the people we dealt with were kind, compassionate, and showed a real desire to make our daughter feel safe and cared for. The child life specialists are out of this world good, and really helped us through some tough times!

Terrible Hospital. Father of a 1 year old nonverbal epileptic child. My child injured himself (as boys will do) and instead of just treatment, we were harassed and accused of abuse. This hospital got detectives involved and cps and despite being told by neither that there was no neglect or wrongdoing they decided to take our child anyway. The process was entirely unfair and be careful because THEY WILL LIE TO YOU. An overnight stay turned into a week and a half then they let him go home and sent CPS to take him anyway. Terrible, terrible hospital. We will be suing.

My granddaughter was admitted there just this week. Her Dr called over to let them Know she would be coming in as a possible admit, and we waited an hour and half just to be called . Then once in the back it took four hours to get an iv started since she was a baby it was kinda hard finding a vein so that's ok. Then she finally gets a room after five hours now she's behind a curtain her and her mother it's loud and other babies are screaming each family had no privacy whatsoever. At this point the staff states to the mother don't order the baby food because you won't be able to eat they'll serve the baby not you. Then they say we have baby food we can give you for her. Which is weird I would think they would feed the parent and child seeing that she's a breastfbreast mother. The nurses are rude and funny acting. ( Weird and not polite). This is not all the nurses. The parents are in chairs uncomfortable trying to rest and take care of the sick babies. Being UCSF they should do better accommodation s for the family. That hospital is worst than the old highland hospital. Poor poor service. The place is outdated and needs a total makeover from the staff down to the building itself. I felt like I was in a third world country facility. I'll pick UCSF San Francisco any day. Mr Benioff UCSF Children's hospital Oakland needs a lot of work

Disrespectful and arrogant as well as not knowledgeable and impatient the lady from the lab drawing blood (will provide her name soon). Pocked our son in two places and drew quite some amount of blood after which said that it was not good enough and need to start over. She terrorized our son as well as during her attempts to draw blood she was wiggling the needle inside the vein. During the above incident she kept talking rude and disrespectful to us, boy's parents, and blaming us for her luck of knowledge and inability to do her job that she claimed did for twenty-nine years. DO NOT ENTRUST YOUR CHILDREN TO THAT MEAN BUTCHER!

I wish I won't need to go to this hospital any more. Went to the emergency room in the midnight with our son in lot of pain and they did not provide any service for 4 hours - 2 hours of waiting and 2 hours inside the consulting room. Doctors acted like they were just busy with other patients. We had to leave the Emergency room around 4:00 AM and see our regular Pediatrician during the day. The worst part is they sent me a bill of $512 for the Emergency Service. Though I submitted a dispute as we did not receive any service that night, they still had to pay me a huge amount for nothing. This review is for the worst experience we had at this place. There could be good doctors and people here. But I will try my best to stay away from here.

My daughter had an appointment at 9:45 AM when I tried to check her in , the receptionist telling me that your daughter appointment is canceled. I told her , I do have confirmation and everything was ok . Why what happened?? She said , I don’t know . That was the worse experience I have had . I was in the hospital at 25th September 2019 with my daughter who was 9 months old Because she had fever since one day before.when we reach there her fever was 103 and I took her at emergency.i thought every thing is normal and they will discharge quickly.but unfortunately my daughter had fever more than 105 and she got the seizure at the same time.these people as so amazing that they come so quickly around my daughter and acted such a professional way that my daughter got the new life.they brought new smile in to my family because we thought we lost our daughter. We are so thankful to many people in emergency department who save my daughter life.me and my family will remember always the hospital management,intensive care unit team. I have been a patient here for over 9 years the service is great and the nurses really do care about you. You will have a grand time here if you bring your children here, they will feel welcomed. The ER might take a while but when you finally get a doctor you will be very pleased. Your children are not going to be just some number. There is a section of the outpatient building the Infusion center or Day Hospital where there are the nicest group of nurses you could ever have working on your case.

The triage nurses (white male) is rude when you have questions. The waiting area is dirty and parking is a pain. I was not expecting such bad service from Ucsf since I usually great amazing service in San Francisco children’s hospital. I would never recommend to bring your children here. It’s not any better then county hospitals. :-( I watch the white staff treat other white people with special treatment while other races are given poor service. Don’t bother coming to this s*** hole.

ER review: the people seem nice but boy is it slow. We arrived at 630pm, it's now midnight and we're still here, waiting for some antibiotics. I understand that ERs are busy, but this feels a little ridiculous. It feels like any time we see a nurse or doctor, and hour goes by before we see another nurse or doctor. On top of that, the other patient in our room has had her iv beeping a loud obnoxious beep for over 15 minutes.

Took almost 5 hours to have my son's badly scraped knee checked at the ER. In the end, he only needed it to be cleaned. When the doctors finally came, they were pretty nice. My son (5 yrs) wanted to give a two star review initially. But, after he saw doctors and they gave him some animal crackers he wanted to upgrade to 5 stars. Im sticking with 3. Next time, I will definitely go to Kaiser Permanente in San Leandro instead.

Spent 2 months in NICU watching nurses choke baby's with bottles until they desated, spent 6 hours in er with a newborn that lost her feeding tube and couldn't eat and they did nothing until they had to put her on iv because she had gone so long without eating in the waiting room that she needed fluids. Needs to go to school,never mind the fact that the paper was lost twice&that the new doctor took it upon her self to not call me and to put the paper in the mail,after I went through the trouble of signing papers specifically to have them call me so I could pick it up.This is ridiculous I have been having this problem since October, the new receptionist is pathetic always telling me to be patient,I miss the old one who's still in the building just not at the front desk.Mean while everyone is thinking I'm just some lazy parent who isn't trying to put her son in school.If I near where Patricia Chase transfered to,I would go there. My developmentally disabled daughter was brought here via ambulance at the instructions of OPD in psychiatric crisis. The psychiatric dept said to call 911 and bring her in if she's in crisis. I did just that. When I arrived, they refused to treat her because she was over 12 years old!! She was here a week before for cardiac care, yet refused to have their psychiatrist help her! She has the mental capacity of a 7 year old and wanted to send her to John George Psychiatric Hospital! She was calm and cooperative, and doctors released her. 6 hours later after zero treatment, we're being told she is on a 5150 hold and needs OPD's release. The chaos and inconsistency of care and treatment is appalling here. Never coming here again..for anything!

Good check in of child at intensive care after a fall from 12 feet or so. Luckily everything was good, only minor bruises. Had to stay overnight as precaution(which is totally ok) After that, though, communication between the different departments and doctors was very poor - different stories about what to happen and when the checkout is. Child didn't get anything to eat and when I asked about sth, it took always hrs to get back to me. So ICU good, rest bad

Today (Jan 22, 2016) I went into the teen clinic at Children's Hospital. The reason for my visit today was that I needed to get the medical baseline form from PG&E amended for my son. PG&E medical baseline supervisor asked me would I go in and ask the doctor Lela Rachrach would she clarify what she meant by heating. After waiting an hour. She sends out one of staff doctors to talk to me. The staff doctor ask me me do you know about the Pg&e Care program. I said what does that have to do with this form. I said can I speak to Dr. Lela. She goes back there and come outs again. She said that she will not sign the papers. Dr. Lela would never come out and take the time to talk to me about the situation. Dr. Lela told Tina that she will call the medical baseline and fax the papers. I ask Tina the receptionist does she have no number. No response. I ask does she have the fax number. No response. Then Tina tells me if you Need help with your finances we help programs that will help you. This is response that African American people get when you go to that office. They treated me like I was trying to scam them and I don't appreciate being stereotyped. Don't even waste your time with that teen clinic. It's not worth it at the end of day. Spend your money with doctors and staff who care about all races and doesn't stereotype you and mistreat you.

Came here April 7th, with our 3 year old son. We are from Seattle Washington and Was on vacation and our son started having trouble breathing with a bad cold and we stopped here to get him checked out before we drove 12 hrs home. We waited about 2 mins to be seen and as soon as the lady checked us in she immediately took us back to the room and made sure my son was comfortable and then left. Dr came in a min or two later and immediately got on top of everything, x rays, breathing treatments. I was really impressed how quickly they attended his needs and how comfortable the made sure he was. 2 drs and a nurse came in to help with advise on meds and traveling to our dr!! We came to visit and do some research about moving to California and we definitely want to live somewhere within the area of this hospital because sadly our son has a lot of health issues but definitely would be glad knowing they took the time to care for us like any other patients!!

When I came out the elevator I saw this sign that Medical patients are assigned certain rooms where only curtains divide them and the other rooms are nice and private. It really made me sad that there’s preference even in children’s hospital. We were there in August - but the Dr send us back because my son needs a test - I have been calling and nobody seems to call back WHY? Then I got an appointment coming (Dec) took us more than 3 months - am afraid to come because the doctor might send us back again for the "where is the result of the test" that never happened. I think the doctor needs the result first before seeing her right??? Procedures are not clear, you can't make an appointment without doing the test first. So am hesitant to come (back and forth) this is our 3rd time. My son is 5 years old and needs to know if he has problem with his hearing!

My daughter had a fall at school and her mother noticed she was injured near her private area so we immediately took her to the emergency room . We encountered a rude nurse who kept giving me a dirty look so I brushed it off . She asked my daughter what happed so we told her and before you know it a social worker comes in and ask my kids mother can she talk to her in private as if there was a problem with me being there , so my kids mother told the social worker she could say whatever she needs to in front of me. The social worker explained the nurse reported to her my daughter and mother looked scared and the was frightened or whatever but after 4 long hours of being held hostage with no food or water it was cleared up. Felt like we was being detained .Bottom if you’re a black father and your daughter gets hurt on the monkey bars just stay away from the situation because you’re going to get accused of being suspicious and no parent shouldn’t have to go through that process . Message to children hospital search for the facts before you accuse someone or try to destroy and break and tear black families down..

We went to the Oakland facility to have our son's head checked due to concerns about the shape causing issues with his brain, etc... Our first visit to Oakland was great and was very easy. We scheduled a second check a month later at the Santa Rosa facility where they have an outpost to run the scans. We arrived this morning to find another couple had already left and to find out the person running the scans didn't show up today. The response from the staff?? "We sent out a letter to you on 11/5 to let you know it was re-scheduled to 11/14". Wait, you sent a LETTER to us for an appointment we scheduled almost a month ago 2 days before we were scheduled to go to the appointment? We took time off from work, took our son out of daycare for which we pay a lot of money and now are told we have to come back on the 14th. So, 2 hrs of driving, 2 people taking time off and our son not going to daycare to be told you sent a letter 2 days ago. We both have cell phones. My wife's e-mail is registered in the system. We'd have had to receive the physical letter yesterday and the likelihood of it being delivered in 1 day is probably 0% at any time of the year. The worst part? It's not that we again have to take time off of work (2 people) or take him out of daycare (which we pay for) or the fact we have to drive 2 hours, spending time and money again, even though we aren't made of money and every dollar counts. No, it's the fact we can't simply say "nope, we're going to cancel this appointment. He doesn't need it." This place has us over a barrel because we can't go anywhere else. We can't find another provider and we can't risk not taking him to this appointment. They have his previous results and they will be comparing the results and working with our pediatrician. They completely screwed us and their reply is "I'm sorry", with requisite crocodile tears and an offer of a gas card. They know they have us handcuffed and they know we have no recourse. Their pathetic sending-of-a-letter when they refuse modern technology is terrifying, considering this place is supposed to be a state of the art advanced technology children's hospital. This is absolutely not acceptable and there is nothing they will do or care to do and they know they don't have to because we can't do anything about it. I just hope this review will give other people a voice to complain and give someone a wakeup call. If we didn't love our son, we'd tell Benioff to screw off. But, like all parents, we do. And Benioff knows they can do this because all parents love their children and they know they can screw people over and they have no choice but to come back.
