Instead of including me, as the patient, in health care decisions in a collaborative manner, I’ve experienced some providers that make decisions by themselves. Examples are: discontinuation of medication, canceled appointments, and referrals/consults left unaddressed. It’s very frustrating because it’s a challenge to get into some clinics and receive some types of treatment. And here’s my pet peeve....More often times than not, staff say “I can’t do that,” “I’m not allowed,” “You would have to...” or “You have to do these things first.” I would appreciate a can-do attitude from staff rather than more hurdles to jump. My suggestion: use the Choice program and exclusively work with an outside provider’s office (like MyHealth in South Anchorage). Or get your own health insurance and seek care elsewhere!

The primary care and nursing staff were great to they recently hired Dr Valasquez, she is a piss poor doctor who puts her own beliefs and biases before her patient's care. On more than one occasion she was rude to me and she hung up on me. When i was having a bad reaction to the medication she switched me to. Then forced me to take a drug test like i was an addict. I feel my rights as a patient were violated by her. I regret changing. To this doctor. Better to ask for a doctor in community this doctor believes her beliefs prejudices, and stereotypes comes before the rights of her others.

This is where I got started in the VA medical system as an inpatient at JBER DOD/VA joint venture hospital. It is better than any VA or DOD facility I have been to previously or since! Alaska treats it's Vets better than other states I've been to but medical care is sometimes hard to get to because AK is so big.

I’ve had trouble with a va location in the past. My buddy who I hold in high regard was denied a treatment in a letter saying the va does not offer the care he needs. Yet in a informational pamphlet he has received, the va does recognize it’s a treatment for his condition. The va logo is spattered and printed on The whole publication .There is a doctor who he has spent thousands of dollars of his own money on to treat his ptsd. Me myself have also seen this doctor and experienced positive results which lasted a year, I am currently awaiting a go or no go myself for this treatment through the veterans choice program. Shame on them for ignoring positive treatment results and denying a claim. Someone needs to be fired. Va accountability act gonna boot you in the nut sack for this stupid insanity. Karmas a .......well most people know!

This hospital is a hit or miss kind of place. It took me a year just to receive healthcare through the system and 2 years just to receive my veterans ID card. While some departments have it together, others (majority) are a complete disaster and truly give the impression the VA simply does not care but will gladly collect a pay check to do nothing. The sad thing though about all of this is the VA in Anchorage is one of the better VAs, unlike the concentration camp of a VA they have in Milwaukee, WI.

44 years going toVA I have service connected broken neck last 7 years meds canceled morph sulfate 120 mg. On Dec 3rd I'm in so so much pain cold turkey is no joke,VA BLACKLISTED MY NAME with medicare no pain meds in the US I guess. This is a death sentence. And a violation of constitution amendment of due process,14th amend.cruel an unusual punishment 8th amend,giving evidence against my self,blood an urine test.the 5th amend.pain relief possibility is zero.burocrats I would like to watch them die! In Canada I could go to the store an buy Canadian Aspirin (codiene sulfate) ,A house can not stand against itself, America is two face,good luck,at Anchorage VA Alaska ,death will be a relief.
