So, I am a single mom and as a super big treat to myself for my 35th birthday I decided get my hair done at Moxie. After my first visit I was really disappointed with the way my hair came out ( did't look like what I had wanted it to in terms of color). I followed up with the owner, Todd and let me tell you he could not have been nicer about it! We had a great conversation in person and over the phone, and he literally went above and beyond to make this right. Besides refunding me for the service that was done on my hair, he also set me up with a stylist Timo (who is AMAZING) she took such great care of me and was able to get my hair where I wanted it, plus an amazing blowout at the end. As someone who works in a senior level position in a very service oriented business, I can say that Todd, Timo, Erika and Chelea are all customer service rock stars! I will absolutely be going back to Moxie and will be hoping that Timo can see me for all my future visits! Thanks Todd for all you did to make this right... I really did leave Moxie feeling beautiful but most importantly, my heart felt at peace because you went above and beyond to make the situation right with me! What a great experience! :)

Hey this place is wonderful! I went yesterday to get a bob cut from my very long hair. I was nervous because I've never had short hair, but the stylist who cut my hair did a fantastic job. It's flattering to my face shape and the right length/weight to stop my curls from shrinking up or having too much volume in a weird place. It's also a great building and a good experience. I really, really loved this place!

Fellow curlies this is for you! Got a DevaCut from Dana a couple weeks ago. LOVE IT! Not only did she provide an excellent service, but she also took the time to explain the care of curly hair. She listened to my routine and low maintenance lifestyle and provided great advice. The price was reasonable for a DevaCut and I didn't feel pressured to do or buy anything that I didn't walk into the salon expecting to buy. I planned on buying some DevaCurl products and she made some great recommendations. I'll be back. If you're trying to accentuate your natural curl, talk to Dana. She's awesome!

Let me preface by saying this was my first time going here. I had previously gone to Bristles, but after a disastrous haircut, I wanted to try something new. Since I drive by Moxie all the time I decided to give it a try. It was completely worth it! I saw Richard and the first thing he did after sitting me down in his chair was ask me what I wanted. I explained to him I didn't really know, but I wanted to keep it long. I was open to other suggestions about my hair. He was wonderful by truly listening and giving his opinion, which I loved. Richard was chatty and very easy to talk to. He gave me a beautiful haircut and I truly enjoyed the experience which doesn't happen often for me. I'm very pleased and will definitely recommend him to everyone.

Holy Baloney! :D I hadn't gotten my hair cut to my shoulders since middle school, and I'm now 23. My hair has always stayed lengthy, about down to my belly button, but I was looking for a change. I wanted a fun, shaggy cut suitable for spring and summer that really fit my style. When Rachel walked up and I saw her tattoos and colored hair, I knew she was gonna see my vision too! :) She did not disappoint! Gave me what I was looking for, and her artistic opinions and ideas were well received and trusted! If you're a punk princess, indie gal, or the fun-loving wild-haired hippy type, see senior stylist Rachel! :) I have honestly never loved a cut as much as this one! (Bonus: She even blow-dried and styled my hair as I would have done at home, rather than giving me a straight, average and boring blowout). Very impressed with cleanliness of the salon and the atmosphere too! :) 5/5 experience. Must go!

My wife went in for a full coloring on Jan 20 with Ashley. The top was too dark. She made an appointment to correct it today, but the stylist was dismissive, then said she would have to reschedule if she wanted her to do anything. She has been going to Moxie for a few years and Richard was her stylist. He has since left, which is a shame. My wife and daughter will not be going to Moxie anymore.

I have mixed feelings about my visit to Moxie. The staff is super friendly, and I loved the haircut CeCe (sp?) gave me. The space is also fantastic. However, I got my brows done, and the places that were waxed broke out into this itchy, scaly, red dry patch for 10 days, which my doctor said was most likely a burn. The product I purchased also leaks (planning on returning that). Overall, great ambience and customer service, but I feel like I really overpaid for what I got, and I've never had a bad reaction to getting waxed in my life.

I have been going to Moxie, and Todd, the owner, for more years than I can remember. I have ALWAYS had a good experience. On the rare occasion that I just didn't like the cut or color, Todd has always fixed the problem. Todd is extremely approachable and wants to make things right. If you have an issue, ask to speak with him. Like any business that provides service to the public, approaching the problem in a calm and adult-like manner will get you much further than screaming and complaining about the issue. I have found that the staff at Moxie will bend over backwards to make things right. Wouldn't go anywhere else.

I moved to Charlottesville 2 years ago.. And i tried many salons thaat i had bad experiences with. Because i show them pictures of what i want and i explain. But they only do what they want or what is easy for them not what i want.. Buut today i tried Moxie and i had the best stylist ever Michael he is so professional and knows what fits ur face shape your skin tone your hair length.. Am so happy with the results. I received horrible highlights. I asked to be "brighter" for my upcoming wedding and instead I left with white hair and very noticeable dark roots. This appointment wasted 3 hours of my time and I paid over $200. I have never complained about a hair service before (I have never even posted a bad review on Yelp for any type of service) but I needed my hair fixed before my wedding so I made an appointment a couple days later. When I went back my stylist was obviously agitated and angry. She said she did not have time to fix my hair so she put a lowlight glaze on it and said "it will last for a couple of weeks if you don't wash your hair everyday". She also made me pay for the glaze. Her bad attitude made me feel so uncomfortable, I asked to leave before my hair was completely dry. The owner got involved when I was leaving but honestly it was too little, too late.

My experience at Moxie; As a loyal customer I have been very very disappointed with my today's visit. I went with a picture to get partial highlights done couple of weeks ago , first i was told by the stylist that she can not follow the picture because there is flash light, this and that. I let her do my highlight and it was totally not what i wanted. I left the lounge and before checking out I paid and made another appointment to go back and get it fixed. The next time when I went there the stylist was not very happy and complained that it is a long process to do, my hair was dark to lift the color and many more complaints. she put whatever she wanted and I did not see any changes. later when I called the manager after debating with myself to call or not because I did not want to hurt anybody's feelings, I decided to get my hair done as I wanted, since i had paid over $200. when I called I was told that It would be on Moxie, but when I got to Moxie and got seated I was told that there was a charge for the service and I had to sign a waver that I wouldn't complain later or come back to get my hair fixed if I was not happy. I had to go to the front desk to talk to the manager, the manager was very rude and she kept giving me an ultimatum, I decided to just leave their salon. I had paid for the service I had asked for, Moxie did not do any favors for me or anything for free. My time is very important to me each time I spent almost three hours there. Over all very rude manager, very bad customer service, all Moxie cares for is to get clients in and out, they don't care about client's satisfactory. That means very unprofessional, because customer's satisfactory comes first.

Was introduced to the company through Chelsi and was so impressed with what I saw and experienced there, I left my previous stylist after a 15+year relatiionship. I've had 2 stylist cut my hair there, 1st Mykol and now Toby, both were extremely talented individuals. Toby takes such great steps in his work to make sure my hair experience is a good one and so far its been great!. All the staff is so energetic and quick to speak and offer coffee, etc. Every aspect of a visit to Moxie is a good one!..Whether you're new to Charlottesville or just looking for someone different to cut your hair give Moxie a try, you will be glad you did!.

They were friendly and fit me in quickly. Unfortunately, the stylist was not experienced in color and cutting long hair. I told her I wanted to keep it long and she said she would only take off a couple inches and it ended up being six inches. We decided to darken the color with low lights. She neglected to tell me before starting that it wouldn't look good with just a partial and she should do a full, she just did it. Now the back of my hair looks awful and I can't really put it up without everyone seeing it. For such a high-scale place I would have expected better service. There is nothing worse than seeing yourself in the mirror and hating your hair after you have been to a salon.

I came in to get a trim by a junior stylist. The cut itself was okay but the stylist was so rough with my hair that I had a headache when I left. I watched him pull/break off an unnecessary amount of hair while brushing after my wash cause he was brushing so hard. Also when I asked if he could blow dry my hair on a low setting to minimize damage he said he had to blow dry at a high temperature and he could finish on low, but at that point the damage was already done. I think my hair was in better condition before my haircut than after.

Saw a junior stylist who listened to EXACTLY what I wanted and gave me a cut that was exactly what I asked for. Usually when I tell people that I want a "low maintenance" cut for long, curly hair, they give me 3 products I must use, tell me I need to blow dry it every morning, etc. At Moxie, she recommends only one product but have me a cut with which the product wasn't even necessary. She used a diffuser to dry my hair a little, but that is also completely unnecessary to maintain the look. My hair looks just as good two weeks later as it did the day of the cut.... and with no work or product.

I went here to get my roots bleached and hair cut when my regular barber couldn’t fit me in and I will never go back. My hair was bleached by someone who clearly had no idea what to do, bleaching it only once and without any heat even though I have dark brown hair. Then, after toning, he realized I wasn’t close to achieving the lift I had been looking for and proceeded to bleach my hair again, cooking my scalp. I left the appointment with yellow roots, purple hair, and no haircut because my skin was too sensitive to cut it. I’ve had my hair bleached consistently every six weeks for about two years and this has never happened to me. Even after my hair and scalp was destroyed, I was still charged $100. Do not go here.

I just had the most amazing experience with Emily. I came in with heavily damaged tips from a home “bleach and dye job” and washed out, brassy green color that needed to go immediately for my sister’s wedding. I am a novice when it comes to dying hair (obviously) and Emily was able to translate what my needs and wants were and turn them into a stunning reality. My sister is beyond relieved that I won’t have green hair for her wedding and I am beyond pleased with the full color/partial balayage treatment I had done today. I feel more confident after leaving Moxie than I have in a very long time. (And thank you to Lauren for helping out and pairing me with the right stylist!)

I went to Moxie's on the 11th of May. My hair was very long. I had been growing it out for two years so I could donate it to Locks for Love in honor of my deceased daughter-in-law. I was really excited to finally be getting it cut. I had scheduled my appointment a couple of weeks in advance. When I arrived for my appointment, I was told I was going to have to wait. I did not mind because appointments can run over for a few minutes. However, I waited a lot longer than a few minutes. I actually thought about leaving . I really wish I had. I was finally taken for shampoo and then to the stylist. I had asked for a master stylist. I do not think I got one. I cannot remember the woman's name but that does not matter because I am NEVER going back. I brought with me several pictures of short styles I like with side swept bangs. The styles were a little edgy. I found them on a site called "short haircuts for women over 50." I told the stylist I wanted something sophisticated and fashionable. I also told her that my neck line grew low and my hair grew fast so I did not want a style that would require my neckline to be shaved. She looked a the pictures and handed them back to me. She then proceeded to give me a haircut that was no more than a short bob with a shaved neckline and no side swept bangs. I had had a major legal incident earlier in the day and was so emotionally drained that I did not have the strength to fight with her about the cut. I just thanked her and went to get get my waxing. After the waxing I paid my $155.00 bill added tip and dragged myself away. I had specifically scheduled this appointment after my court session so it would make me feel better. It was the exact opposite results. I HATE the hair cut. I could have gotten the same hair cut at Haircuttery for $20.00. Also on Saturday, the day after the waxing, I had to pluck a hair from the side of my chin that was at least a quarter inch long. As I said, my hair grows fast so it will be long enough in a couple of months that I can go to another styling salon and get a decent style cut. Do yourself a favor, DO NOT USE THIS SALON. the service is TERRIBLE and the stylists just want to get you in and out.

Today I met Angie and she has a customer for life! I can't say enough good things about the whole experience. I love the space, I love that Angie got me and I love my hair!! The girl that did my shampoo was obviously busy but she did not rush and took her time massaging my neck. I used to work near their old space and I'm kicking myself for not trying them years ago!!
