I had previously written a review disappointed in the work of a stylist here and the next day the salon called requesting that I come in and have it fixed at no charge. They went above and beyond to satisfy me. The owner even spoke to me personally to be sure that I had the best experience possible. When you’re spending 100s of dollars, you really want to go to a place like this that takes responsibility for their work. My new stylist, Brandon, was extremely skilled and personable. I felt 110% pleased with my hair when I left and he definitely earned my trust. My hair feels so healthy and the color looks so natural now. I’m so glad that I gave the salon a second chance, and I will definitely be returning.

I'm seriously obsessed with Katie! Went in DCS for the first time today and walked out with the MOST gorgeous hair color ever. I decided to make an appointment at DCS after a disaster of a time at another salon here in Raleigh. When I say disaster, I mean chemical burns all over my scalp. Katie eased my nerves and corrected the prior mistakes the other salon had made plus much, much more! She made it look even better than it had looked before. I was so worried that after all the prior damage my hair would be damaged but Katie took amazing care of it and left me with the soft, long, healthy, bright blonde hair that I had missed. I can't recommend Katie enough. The entire salon was blown away with my transformation. Yay! Yay! Yay! After 11 years in Charlotte, I've finally found my Raleigh hair stylist and couldn't be happier! :):)

I went to get a Keratin treatment, which I have successfully had at several other salons in the area. At $200.00+, it didn't "take". They redid it, for free. ( I still tipped my hairstylist) That one didn't take. I went back in to try a different "kind", and it still didn't take. $600.00+, and a $40.00 tip each time, and I still have no keratin treatment in my hair. At my other salon, a treatment would last 8 months to a year, since I wash my hair only weekly and use all of the proper shampoos and products. I contacted Douglas personally, and he never responded. I have to say, as a loyal client of 2-3 years, I really don't feel like I matter that much. I am moving on to another salon. Oh, and I contacted him to work this out before writing the review. A no response tells me that he doesn't care.

I love Jenn A! She knows exactly how to cut my hair and the color she does is always perfect. Plus, she's fun to talk to and very nice. She is also great at referring me to products that I might like, and I love that the salon lets you return products that you don't like after trying them. The price is expensive, but it's well worth it to me! I have gotten cheaper cuts and color and I could definitely tell a difference, so I'll pay the price.

As someone who 100% agrees with the statement “You get what you pay for”, I am extremely disappointed! I made an appt at 1:45 for a partial balayage and cut. I was taken to the stylist’s chair and sat there for 30 minutes before being seen, which I was okay with since she was clearly running behind. Once the stylist came over, I showed her pictures of what I wanted & we agreed on a partial balayage that consisted of face framing highlights & highlights dispersed in the back. She was excited and said it was going to be easy since I had virgin hair, nothing complicated about it. 1 ½ hrs pass and she still hasn’t started coloring my hair. I was supposed to go to a concert that night with friends, starting at 7:30, but wasn’t too concerned with the stylist running a little behind since my appointment started at 1:45. Once she finally started, it took her no more than an hour to actually color my hair. I left my phone in my bag thinking it wouldn’t take long to rinse and come back to the chair. During that time, my friends and family were frantic because hours passed and they hadn’t heard from me. They never thought I would still be getting my hair done. My friends were just as confused as me about how I was still there because they all color their hair and have never spent close to that amount of time at a salon. After 7 and ½ hours and I was finally done! I have never heard of anywhere taking close to that long for very subtle highlights, no roots, no color correction, no texturizing, nothing drastic at all! I didn’t leave the salon until 9:15 pm. Everyone was gone including the stylist who colored my hair because SHE LEFT TO GO TO THE BEACH while I was there….after I had spent my entire day in the chair waiting for people to work on me. It would be one thing if the time I spent at the salon was time the stylists were actually working on my hair but it was time spent waiting for someone to come back. To top it off, I go to check out and am charged $335 for what I thought was a partial balayage and cut. I was actually charged for full foils which is not at all what we agreed on or what I got done. I did not know that was what they charged me for until the next day when they processed my payment (since the receptionists were gone when I was finally done at 9:15) and I received an automated survey with the two services that were completed: “foils-full” and haircut. The morning after, I called the salon to share my experience and try to respectfully let them know what happened because I don’t think it is at all acceptable to have someone in the salon that long unless the work they were getting done required that. After speaking to the manager, she was understanding, agreed with my concerns, and said she would have Douglas call me. 40 minutes later, I get a phone call thinking it would be Douglas and it was another lady, Dina, who said she was also the manager. After discussing for another 20 minutes, she said she would have Douglas call me but it wouldn’t be until Tuesday when he returns to work. Tuesday comes and goes, no word from anyone. I call first thing Wednesday morning and they say once again that Douglas will call me. Never heard back. I didn’t complain while I was at the salon because I wanted to be respectful to the other stylists while they had clients there. But after spending my whole day there, not being able to eat, missing a concert, being charged WAY more than expected for a hair coloring technique that I didn’t agree to nor did I receive (full foils), and not being able to talk to the owner for him to at least hear my concerns so it doesn’t happen to anyone else….I wish I had spoken up. Unfortunately, I will never go back and I will make sure everyone knows my experience if they are searching for a salon in Raleigh. Every other salon I’ve ever been to has made me feel like a priority. Not Douglas Carroll.

The people at Douglas Carroll are fantastic, from the front desk girls, to the assistants and of course, Michelle. Their care and attention from the beginning of the appointment until the end is incredible! Michelle's artistry and eye for what looks good is flawless. I promise you won't be disappointed if you visit Douglas Carroll! It is well worth the effort, time and money!

Seems like a nice place but I did not have a great experience. I had “master stylist” Luis Rios (that is what he called himself). I had a coupon and he did not like that. While cutting my hair he barely talked to me and when he did I felt like he was looking down on me for my choice of shampoo to where I worked. He also kept hitting me in the eyes with my own hair. My hair was shorter than I wanted and was uneven in the front, I had to go and get it fixed somewhere else. The store seemed very nice but I did not like the experience I had. I still tipped him but I do not plan to go back.

I spent a lot of time researching colorists in Raleigh - it was my first time having my hair colored and I was very nervous! After weeks of scouring reviews and Instagrams, I stumbled across Taylor. She had a track record of happy clients (with gorgeous hair), so I made the call and she did not disappoint! Taylor made me feel SO at ease, despite my nerves. She is incredibly methodical and made sure I was completely comfortable with the game plan (for my first appointment, and for those that followed), so I knew exactly what to expect. I'm a natural blonde, but my hair has gotten darker with age (bummer, right?). Taylor did such an amazing job of bringing life and light back to my hair that my own family didn't even realize I'd paid for the color. They just thought I'd been spending more time in the sun! I am obsessed with the work she did, and cannot speak highly enough about how talented she is! 10/10 would recommend.

ATTENTION: I am writing this review to forewarn and likely save many people from making the make mistake I did. I wanted balayage done so the search began for a stylist in Raleigh who I could do balayage and had before and after pictures from previous work to prove it. I searched for weeks on google, instagram, and facebook. I finally came across Douglas Carroll Salon on instagram. I really liked the before/after picture and they had of a girl with similar cut and style that I wanted. In the caption they said Yousra was the stylist who did the girls hair. I looked at Yousra's instagram and there were many before and after pictures that proved Yousra did amazing work. I knew that getting your Raleigh done in Raleigh in not cheap. I was well prepared to spend $200-$300 for cut and color (bayalage). I had never met Yousra or been in this shop before so I was definitely nervous when I came in for my appointment. I debated if I should first ask Yousra to give me a price before the cut and color but decided that would not be necessary because heck it cant be more than $300 right? I showed Yousra a picture of what I wanted and she said she could do that and go the process began. She ended up first trimming my hair, then colored my hair darker, then washed my hair, then she began the bayalage process which is essentially strategically putting highlights in the hair to give the hair a natural highlighted, thick textured look. She let the highlights sit and then told me that she needed to do a second process. I said okay, that took about 15 more minutes. She then washed my hair and cut it and styled it. She made the comment that I could come back in about 6 weeks and get the balayage touched up and I could go darker if I wanted to. She took an after picture for her instagram and it looked amazing.I then went to check out and the front desk girl informed me it cost $435 dollars!!!! I wanted to cry. I have NEVER heard of a color and cut EVER coming close to that price! I feel this was ethically and morally WRONG not to forewarn a new customer that what she was asking for was going to be more than $400 dollars. That is just common courtesy!! I feel taken advantage of and screwed over. I am not here to bash her work I am here to say that it was wrong to not to forewarn a new customer that was she was asking would cost X amount. I hope this saves someone from going through what I went through. -Jessi

I had the best experience at Douglas Carrol Salon. My stylist was Yousra and she is phenomenal. She took my lifeless boring hair and gave it life and color. I would say I am not very good at picking out styles or colors so I let Yousra decide and that was the best decision I’ve made. The mixed beautiful tones together and I just love my hair. I had a Brazilian Blowout as well. I normally have very curly dry hair and after the Brazilian Blowout it was silky and smooth. My hair never felt healthier. Yousra is worth every penny. I will only see her from now on.

This was probably the worst experience I have ever had with service and color at a professional high-end salon. They advertise the balayage technique, but it is quite obvious, by my hair, that they have not mastered the technique. This visit was bad on many levels. Because of disorganization or overbooking, 4 different people worked on my hair; and while in the middle of the balayage bleachng process, one of the stylists stepped away to put color on someone else's hair and left me sitting there. I could tell by the look on the stylists face that my hair had gone terribly wrong, as he frantically walked around the salon asking several other stylists what their opinion was, and asking for suggestions about what kind of toner to use to correct the color. After 3 applications of different toners, it still looked hideous. The owner told me that I looked beautiful, which was pretty hilarious, because it was about 6 different colors along the same strand of hair, with abrupt, straight lines cutting through most of the sections. Completely unlike the way balayage is supposed to appear-natural, blended and progressive colors. I have to say that the cut is good, as far as I can tell, but the entire experience was awful, cost me 255.00, and a trip to Walgreens because I dyed it back to a chocolate brown to remedy this disaster this morning. I feel taken advantage of and cheated. I will not be back to this salon.

I have been going to Luis for a few years now. Having tried other Salons and Stylists in Raleigh, I would never go anywhere else now that I have located Luis at Douglas Carroll. I have red hair and it can be difficult to color however, he has never had difficulty with it and I get so many complements on my hair since I started coming to Luis. I also struggle with curly hair and he does a great job styling my hair and always suggests the right products to use. The entire staff has been friendly and very accommodating to me!

Because of their expertise, I consider my hair care, health and style an investment in myself. I buy well made shoes. I invest in nice clothes. I take care of my skin with good products. And I buy talent, expertise and creative artists when I turn my hair over to Douglas Carroll Salon. I trust this salon to make me feel beautiful and they certainly do. I trust them to give me a current styling with the best in service and with impeccable judgment and advice. I wouldn't go anywhere else! Really bad experience here. Completely messed up my hair. The person I was seeing was overbooked and so he was frantically running around between me and two other girls. Wouldn't listen to me about what I really wanted and just said what he wanted to do instead. Ended up sitting too long with color on my hair and messed it up. The staff was not friendly at all. The person I was with kept telling his assistants what they were doing wrong and was really rude to them and didn't talk to me the entire time. They rushed through my entire color treatment. On top of that, while they were coloring they pulled my hair so hard and weren't gentle at all on my scalp. If I could give this place zero stars I would. Save yourself the time and go somewhere else

If y’all have any hair needs, I highly recommend Natalie. I swear I haven’t had a bad hair day since I started seeing her. She always has good suggestions and is very friendly and professional. She definitely knows her stuff and is very helpful with styling tips and tricks of the trade! (Seriously - she recommended an anti-frizz spray that has been a lifesaver) I’ll definitely be going back!

I have for the longest time searched for someone who could highlight my hair to the beautiful ashy tone beige highlights you see all over pinterest/instagram and he was able to achieve that! He gave me the chicest cut and got me to the color I wanted in ONE day. I am so excited to continue my visits at this salon with him, end even though he was my main stylist, the entire team was extremely great, from Lila who helped in assisting, to even the front desk receptionist who so graciously helped fit me into his schedule! Had such a great experience here! Everyone in the salon was so friendly and it had such a great atmosphere. My last color at a different salon had me very nervous to get color again but Rachel did such an amazing job! The brown to blonde balayage looked so natural and it was EXACTLY what I asked for. Worth every penny, I will definitely be returning in the future.
