This is the only salon I'll visit in the city!! I have been a loyal customer for three years and I won't go anywhere else. Their stylists always have the best advice for color and cuts. It's hard to find stylists who understand how to highlight/dye blonde hair well but every time I have gone (even visiting different stylists) it has been flawless!! I love getting to relax in their fun atmosphere with a glass of complimentary wine (what could be better?). I leave every time so happy, with my hair looking better than I could have imagined. Definitely recommend for blondes!!!

After coming to Laura Braunstein for more than a year, I'm changing salons. I recommended Tracy to a friend who moved to the city from out of town, and her appointment was not good: not only was the appointment 45 minutes late, the haircut was not a good one. My friend was having professional photos for her new position at Columbia taken soon after and she was really unhappy with the cut. I was embarrassed for having made the recommendation, and I'll be moving on.

I have never found a stylist or salon to be loyal to until I started to go to Laura Braunstein Hair Studio! In the past, I just stuck with whatever groupon was available, but never again. After about a year and a half and 4-5 great cuts, I'm officially a LB addict! Not only is the place convenient to the subway, gorgeous in decor and filled with personable people, but they give you yummy drinks while you're getting your hair done! Fun thing to do before a night out! Most importantly, however, Laura and her team (of which I have gotten cuts from mostly Laura but also a few others) are extraordinarily talented. They are able to follow your specifications about cut while making sure you're getting a style that is easily maintained for your level of skill and dedication -- I'm a student who rarely does her hair and NEVER remembers to get it cut for about 6 months and it still looks great every day and for months! Finally, when I thought I had ruined by precious locks with a now-defunct resolution to swim daily, Laura was able to calm my fears and nurse my hair back to health. Products: Laura has a great eye for product and importantly knows when and how NOT to use it. She has high end stuff in the salon for purchase (Moroccan Oil etc.), but can help you work within your budget when seeking out home care products. Long story, short, if you're looking for a great and versatile cut in a great location with an awesome atmosphere, look no further than Laura Braunstein Hair Studio!

I’m thrilled to have discovered Laura Braunstein’s salon on the UWS. I needed to change to salon that was nearby, since I started going to the salon every 6-8 weeks (to cover my grey hair), that is very scary to do this after 10 years at Bumble and Bumble. I’m so happy to have found such a high quality and outstanding salon at Laura Braunstien and it’s in the neighborhood. I’ve now become a loyal client to the salon (and Laura) to have my hair colored, highlights, and cut. I love the vibe in the salon, Laura is a very calming presence, the place is beautifully decorated and the feeling is always welcoming. Thankfully there is never any of the insanity of rushed chaos that I don’t like at many salons. Everyone at the salon has a fabulous accommodating calm personality Best of all Laura really knows how women want to look, she really hears what you are saying! She has been able cut my hair stylishly to enhance my wavy curls longish, and now I wanted a short more geometric modern cut. She has done both types of cutting with perfection and I now have such cool modern short haircut! I love how versatile she is, and she has an amazing great eye for color! My color and highlights are always beautiful.

This place is.... not great. I’ve gone there twice and had two different people, never had Laura. The first woman was over sharing about her personal life while coloring me, forgot me at the shampoo bowl when I had gloss on and my hair came out grayish platinum. I went back to ask if she could just tone it down and she said to leave it alone and it would be fine in a week or two. Yikes. I decided to try again with someone new months later because the color in my hair had grown out and there was a stark line between brunette and blonde. This woman was better, she said some things about how my haircut was choppy and tried to convince me to fix it ... I had just gotten it done by my favorite place so ouch. I told her what had happened last time with the color and she did do much better but after I went home my roommate pointed out the line in my hair was still there. And the bottom which I also wanted colored (I paid for it to be fixed at least) and it was still way darker than the rest when I got home. I was disappointed because I spent a lot of money, called about it, sent emails and nobody ever responded. Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me. I would avoid this place if you can. Two stars because the second woman was way better than the first and my hair is at least okay to wear out and about, it just looks like I haven’t had my hair done in months.

Look we all know I'm getting my hair colored so make it stand out! I went to see Deana and she completely understood what I wanted. She shifted my base and highlights to a shade I've not used before and the results were spectacular. She's a joy to talk to, an artist who delivers more than you're expecting. I wish I lived in the city, she would be my go-to colorists, oh yes, the haircut was just as I asked, a trim to remove the bulk, perfect. Fantastic all around.

The salon was nice but I had the worst color I have ever had. The stylist told me she had never seen happen to my hair from what she put in it. It turned red. I now have to go to another salon to have it redone. Overall they were nice about it. But I would never go there for color as they have no idea what they are doing and I have been getting my hair highlighted for 30 yrs plus.

I've been going to Tracey at Laura Braunstein for nearly 3 years now, and don't have a single negative thing to say. The salon itself is exactly what I've had a hard time finding elsewhere in Manhattan—a nice, elegant salon that's also comfortable. Other places in NYC were either so hip/trendy/aloof that I'd stress out about what to wear just to get my roots done, OR, they'd be slightly dingy and tired. If you're looking for upscale comfortable, definitely check out Laura's place! As for Tracey (my stylist), my hair has never looked better. I'm a dark brunette with premature grays, and she does a great job of keeping my color looking rich without being too harsh. She's also extremely patient/skilled at styling my fine, frizzy hair, and has consistently given me the best cut I've ever had for my medium-length, hard-to-style hair!

This is an urban chic hair salon owned and operated by law school grad Laura Braunstein who is the epitome of sophisticated business woman, artiste extraordinaire and down to earth genuinely nice person. The Salon runs like a real business -- appointments are always on time, the entire staff treats you like the customer you are, the layout is airy and upbeat, and while I have never indulged they have an entire menu of cocktails that are included with the services. I have been a patron for 2 1/2 years and have never heard a single complaint about any of the stylists and am consistently wowed by the way people look when they leave. I highly recommend this Salon.

I'm happy with the end result of my hair, and I want that to be clear. However, I booked an appointment for full highlights and a haircut. This was my first time at the salon. My stylist was a little late getting started. It happens. I showed her the picture of what I wanted and she said "that's balayage" and I said "I know, but what I want is the colors. I don't need it to be balayage and would prefer highlights" She said that what she does is balayage. I'm thinking "why did the front desk put my appointment with her then?" but okay. It seemed like maybe she couldn't/wouldn't do highlights. So in my mind, based on that, I figured there must not be a price differentiation between the two at this salon. Because, otherwise, why wouldn't she say something? I was wrong! The services ended up being $100 more than I anticipated. And I got a lot of blowback for pointing that out. They ended up taking only $50 off that price. So I still paid $50 more than I had anticipated. Plus tip. I just don't understand the philosophy of the salon. I book an appointment for something and I'm essentially upsold, except I don't know it's happening until the end! They kept talking about "well I did a gloss on you" and I a) never asked for a gloss and b) was never told how much it cost so I could agree to it. I don't appreciate spending more than I anticipate without clear warning. I do really like how my hair turned out! And if I could afford balayage again, I would consider going back. I don't know if they'd want my appointment because they felt more frustrated than understanding of how I felt. So I'd give 4 1/2 stars for results, but much lower for the rest of the experience.

I knew I wanted my first ever short haircut but wasn't 100% sure how to get it cut or styled. Laura patiently talked through my ideas to figure out the best cut for my personality and hair type. The whole experience was made extra fun by a cup of tea and a little photo corner to show the before and after effects, and I was super happy with the end result. Also, the woman at the front desk and the other staff members I interacted with were genuinely friendly and helpful. I look forward to returning!

I really wanted to like this place and had high hopes for it considering it’s wonderful reviews. Unfortunately I got an awful hair cut here. I was with a junior stylist and when she tried to angle my hair she wound up cutting a huge short chunk in the front. The staff were very nice about it and offered to try to fix it but said I would need to let it grow back for it to look good again. They did not charge me and they were extremely polite. My experience does not seem typical for the salon, but maybe stick with the senior stylists. I went over to another salon a few blocks away and they did what they could to even it out.

A 300$ hair color does not look right. I requested fixing it , and they agreed to tone down the color and it just got worse. They even refused to blow dry my hair, which is supposed to be included. Anyways, so this is what’s my 300$ hair look like, which my friends told me I got totally ripped off as it looks like a cheap work now. Not recommend this place. The stylist I had is not good.

I had a wonderful experience at this salon. Laura listened to all my concerns, likes and dislikes of getting my hair colored blonde. She asked questions and took time to listen to me and made sure we were on the same page before mixing the color. In the 9 years I have been in NY this has never happened. I always feel like I am on a timer explaining what I want and that it is always rushed. She took such good care of my hair I felt like she made sure that my every strand was going to look fantastic when she was done and it DID! I could not have been happier. Very thankful for walking out with beautiful blonde hair!

I WILL NEVER RETURN HERE. I came in for a single process - going from very light brown to dark brown. As you can see, the hairstylist only colored my hair partially - there is a large swath in the middle of light hair across the whole head that is not dyed! Even worse, she didn't tell me that this is what my hair looked like in the back and I forgot to ask to see the back!!! She also dried my hair when she was finished and I thought this was part of the single process charge, only to be charged an EXTRA $40 for the blow dry. As soon as I walked out of the studio my daughter saw my horrible hair, so I came back the next morning to the studio and complained. Laura (the owner) wasn't there, but Tracie looked at my hair and agreed with me and took another picture (it looks worse on the side) but told me that she'd have to have Laura call me back. Two days went by and I heard NOTHING. I called again and asked to speak with Laura, who would NOT get on the phone with me! She told Jamie to tell me that "they can't give refunds" but if I come back in, they'll try and fix it. She also said they won't refund the $40 charged to dry my hair because it says on their website that a blowout is $40, even though the stylist never mentioned it and never asked if I wanted one, just started drying it, leaving me to think it was part of the process. Laura passed on through her assistant that I need to take into account that this was an EMERGING STYLIST - ie, cheaper than "senior stylists"...in other words, I should expect mistakes and then pay for them myself??? DON'T GO HERE FOR COLOR!!!

I snagged what was most likely a cancellation at the end of the day in desperation of having my hair washed and dried for me since I had just had surgery and we had dinner at a friends. I’m an out of towner and had never heard of Laura so I read reviews and felt confident it was safe to also get a hair cut by her. Was I SO pleasantly surprised! She was not only extremely kind and caring in listening to my story of why I was in NYC for surgery but also she did and AMAZING job on cutting and layering my hair!! I had so many compliments!
