Service was friendly and my hair looked great out of the salon, but after my first wash I realized that the color and bleaching of my hair was pretty uneven. Later edit: upgraded from 3 stars to five. It has been several months now since I had a balayage done here, and even though my hair is light brown and was bleached light enough to hold pastel colors, it is not damaged and the bleached parts still have a healthy sheen and texture. I feel that the person who bleached my hair really knew the best way to avoid hair damage. Several months down the line, I reapply color to myself, but I am still very happy with the bleaching and health of my hair.

Update after my hair growing out for 3 months and it still maintained its style and shape perfectly. Went back again to see Leo because the length was getting too long and he cut and styled it into perfect messy waves. Amazing experience! Leo revived my hair which was bleached and had not been cut in 8 months. He recommended a style that would make my hair look fuller and healthier, and gave tons of easy tips on how to style it based on my hair texture and effort (I'm super lazy with my hair). He also helped counteract the thinning hair cut that I had previously gotten which made me lose all my volume. We also worked out a plan so that I can grow my hair out enough so that I can color it again!

Friendly staff and great service. I highly recommend coming here if you are looking to get your hair colored. I got a blond balayage and my hair was silky soft after the 3 hour process. I naturally have dark hair so I had to have my hair bleached. Hair Philisophy also sells products to care for your hair (colored or not) in the salon.

One of those really good, dependable salons. Staffed with very talented and motivated people, this salon offers their clients snacks and tea, and an intense head scalp massage ON CHAIRS WITH BOTH FOOT AND HEAD RESTS. I had a terrific and thorough hair cut with Nico, who I highly recommend if you can schedule him. He explained the whole process with me and made sure I was satisfied every step of the way - he even went through a few different ways to style it.

I have been hesitating on writing this review because if too many people find out about Nicholas Timberlake I am afraid I won't be able to see him anymore because he will be booked solid for all eternity. Seriously!!! I was terrified of going to a new colorist/stylist because I am rather particular about my hair. I had a bad experience elsewhere and was made to feel foolish for asking that stylist to correct what I didn't like. Needless to say she was the reason I sought out someone new. I looked at Nicholas' work online and scheduled a consultation with him, which was free. Nicholas put me at ease, heard my concerns, and gave his honest opinion. I booked my first visit with him where he colored my hair and gave me a cut. First - the color IS spectacular!!! His technique is flawless and he actually LIIIIIIKES what he does. Nicholas has an exceptional eye for detail and the creative skill to accomplish anything his clients ask for. If there are limitations, Nicholas will professionally and graciously explain them, setting a reasonable expectation up front. Second - the cut he gave me was precise, even, and exactly as I had asked for. I was so nervous because of a bad experience and yet this guy, Nicholas, was able to get past all of that and give me an overall experience that was and is consistent and exceptional. Mr. Timberlake has a lifetime client in me and Hair Philosophy is very lucky to have him in their shop.

My friend recommended me this spot and I went in with her for her hair appointment. A staff approached and was really nice to talk to me about the services. She was available to talk to me even though I wasn't sure I wanted an appt. Eventually, I schedule my first appt with her and she still helpful during the check out session. My old phone was acting up with my outlook, which then I forgot and missed my apt. Great customer service and I look forward to get my first cut there!

Took a chance and was wonderfully surprised! Was thinking to try a Blowdry and opted for a cut as well with Nicholas. He really took his time, put me at ease and gave me true time estimate then totally over delivered on the quality! I am not too adventurous with trying different hairdressers and he walked me through the cut, took only the dry ends and had excellent communication skills as well as technical . His Blowdry was beautiful and gentle( did not kill my hair nor the scalp ) and lasted for 3 days! He really listened to what I wanted and is very talented. The place is clean, reasonable and easy vibe to it. Definitely coming back to Nicholas and highly recommend him!

This is a hair color review. While they can certainly do good hair color, they could polish up on color technique (put my hair through full head double process bleaching THREE times, which destroyed my scalp). To be fair I had a difficult color challenge (take dyed brown hair to platinum blonde) and their pricing is below average for this level of hair service. I now spend a little more on seasoned hair stylists who will never get it wrong.

Look for Jay!! I came in for a summer change, he and his assistant Kayden did a great job the first time AND the second when I came back to retouch the roots. They made double bleaching work without drying/damaging my hair! Happy with their service above all and we always have fun conversation throughout the process which is another plus.

1s 1s 1s cross the board. This place can’t place a highlight if it was on a highway in the middle of the country! Needless to say don’t bother paying your $400 here when these people don’t even know brown from blonde. Go to Redken school or something...get some teaching. Good lord this is bad. Literally DO SOMETHING else BUT hair!!! Ick....in FACT message me for before AND after photos of with hourly receipts. These people DONT know HAIR! I’ll also recommend you to my top stylist. This makes me mad as a friend. Friends don’t let other friends pay $400 for bad haircuts.......

Patrice is the best! I have had him do my hair for a few years now and he has accumulated a bunch of my friends and relatives as clients as well. If you are looking for a change in style, edgy cut, or bob, he is your guy. He always chooses the perfect cut for me - he has the best eye of any of my other stylists in the past. Patrice is also great at keratin treatments. He was very knowledgable about the process and I didn't go home confused after my first time, so I was eager to go back again this year. My hair is shiny and is holding up in the humidity very well! Patrice is respectful and timely and you won't regret making an appointment with him!

Roy was awesome!!! I've had long hair all my life and really wanted a change, but was pretty nervous. After doing some research and reading tons of reviews I decided to schedule an appt with Roy Ren at Hair Philosophy. HE WAS INCREDIBLE!! I showed him a lot of pictures of what I wanted but admitted that I wasn't sure what would look best given my face shape and hair texture (mostly wavy/ some curls). He talked through the options with me and made recommendations. I couldn't be happier with my cut!! He also gave me tips on how to maintain it or style it differently in the future. He and his staff were all extremely friendly and wasted no time. Sooooo glad I came here and sooooo coming back for any future hair changes! Thank you Roy!!!

Hair Philosophy was my WORST HAIR NIGHTMARE EVER!!!. I went there as I read many good reviews in yelp, they might be very good with the scissors but they're the WORST COLORISTS!!!. First to ask for an appointment on the phone is challenging as they had trouble understanding english and I could barely understand the receptionist but we set up the appointment. They were aware I was traveling from Boston to NYC on monday for a job interview. I was on the train and they called to change the appointment. I told them the appointment was set and I could not change it. I got there and the hairdresser KAI told me he was such a great colourist. I told him what I wanted but he completely IGNORED MY WISHES!. I only wanted to retouch the highlights in the roots and I ended up completely blond and the wrong blond!. I PANICKED when I saw the result and instead of listening he left me with someone else who told me I didn't explain myself right !!!. Whaaaaat ??? They guys kind laughed at my face and was gossiping in whatever language they were talking to each other, it was VERY HUMILIATING!!!. Then to fix it, he did some darker highlights and I ended with hair patches!. I came to the salon at 4pm and I left at 9:30pm!. On top of everything they charged me $280 and they had the courage to ask me for a tip!. Now I regret so much to having paid that amount of money, I shouldn't but it was late and I had to take a cab to Oboken!. Overall an extremely awful and humiliating experience!. DON'T GO TO HAIR PHILOSOPHY FOR COLOR!. They're not respectful, they ignore the client wishes and they don't care about customer service!!!. Now I will need to spend $200 more to fix the problem somewhere else. I went there to retouch the roots and I had a really beautiful colour and I ended up brunette with patches of blond!!!. I have no words to describe how disappointing and awful the experience was!. I'm still waiting for the Manager to give me a call as he vanished and I could not talk to him at all.
