Once I moved to NYC, finding a full service hair salon was one of my many priorities, especially one that specializes in hair extensions. I just wanted to get the best as I was used to getting on the West coast. After doing my homework and going for few consultations throughout New York. I decided that tape-in extensions were the best option for me. The salon is located in the Flatiron District and is specious and peaceful. The customer service is superb and the hair extensions that Liz did for me are my extensions of choice from now on. I love my hair and my new look! Liz gave me a simple but great haircut after the extensions to blend them in. I will have to return to the salon every 2-3 months and not feel guilty about it because now I have a great excuse that is my hair! lol... but my hair extensions are very important. Liz is a true hair extensions specialist.

I’ve always wanted an purple ombre with balayage highlights and even attempted to do it myself, however we all know how that works out. I decided to go to a hair salon in New York City this time and get it properly done. The salon was in the Flatiron District / Chelsea and was close to almost every subway line so it was very convenient. When I arrived, I saw how cute the salon looked. When I walked in, I was greeted by the receptionist. The atmosphere in the salon was very dainty and professional. I had previously lightened my hair to a somewhat blonde level going for the ombre but it needed much more blonde highlights first in order to achieve the hair color I wanted. Alex did balayage highlights on my hair by painting certain strands and blending it in perfectly with the bottom layers of my hair. When the color was washed off my hair, I immediately saw the results. My hair was purple with hints of pink which is what I wanted. I loved the gradual color change which was definitely a change from my natural brown hair color. My hair’s ombre looks amazing and it is by far the best hair color I've had so far. I am very happy with how my hair color came out and can’t wait until the weather gets warmer to show it off! All in all, this hair salon has great service and is very professional. I will choose it over and over again over any other hair salons in NYC the next time I need my color redone, a haircut or even hair extensions and would definitely recommend it to all of my friends!

Such a amazing hair salon. I’ve been going to so many top hair salons here in NYC but very few salons can achieve platinum blonde hair. My hair is very dark black and Alex my new amazing hair colorist was able to lift the black out of my hair and make it Jean Harlow Blonde. Alex is amazing!!! Not only is he very knowledgeable about many types of blonde tones, he is also honest and straight forward about what to expect when bleaching your hair. I'm extremely disappointed.. I went there twice and the first time the colour I asked for was right one, but my roots were orange. The Second time I thought that it will be easer to get the colour right everywhere and it was even worse. I had 4differert colours. I wanted to have ash blond, my hair started from dark brown to a weird dark grey into lighter grey and finished with my blond colour! They saved it a little, but to get the colour right really would take them another 5hours! And it started like this just because the woman told me that she doesn't have enough time to do it in the way I wanted... they agreed that they should not be paid for their second bad job

This was my first time getting balayage highlights in a hair salon in NYC. Being Asian, I have very dark hair color. I wanted balayage higlights but I didn't want it to be too extreme. I told Alex I wanted blonde highlights and he warned me that the contrast would be too severe. Instead, he walked me through what I should go for instead. I ended up having to go back in for a complimentary second session to go lighter because it wasn't light enough for me the first time, but the highlights turned out beautiful. It wasn't too light but it wasn't too subtle either, and it's perfect when the light hits or when it's wavy. It is the best hair color I've had and Alex was super patient and competent as a hair colorist. He really knew what he was doing.

These are the best hair extensions I’ve had so far in New York. I was in dire need of getting my hair extensions done right, after not so great applications in different hair salons in NYC. Of course that could be partially my fault as well when being stuck between budget and quality! Usually some of the extensions would fall a few days after having them done. I understand one or two or three but more?! I found Liz at Aerea salon and after reading her reviews. I was convinced that time had come for me to pay almost a months rent and receive the best. The hair feels like Goddesses and are reusable! It’s been two months already and only 4 have slipped of my hair but the fun part is that they’ll go right back where they belong. Oh I can't thank Liz enough, I'm finally in love with m extensions. Where had you been all my life!!

Simply the best balayage highlights and hair extensions in NYC!! The pictures speak for themselves, go check them out. The staff is extremely nice and are always going an extra step to make sure you are getting the best results possible. They give you genuinely nice recommendations and are mindful of your money (there were times when I wanted to spend a lot more and they recommended me to go a different route, which ended up being a lot cheaper for me!). So far I've done with them: Balayage highlights, Olaplex, Hair Extensions, Keratin treatment (and more to come!). I definitely recommend their services.

I've been traveling for quiet some time but now I'll be based in NYC. I don't recall anywhere around the country to have come across a better hair salon. I initially went to the salon for balayage highlights to lighten my dark hair color. The stylist explained to me that it will require more time than we had available but i left extremely happy with the light brown hair color that he was able to achieve. Few weeks later the new growth needed to be retouched and I call in for Alex again. Its was this time that he was able to complete what he started on my first visit at the salon. He did balayage highlights to re-lighten the color and matched perfectly my strawberry natural hair color. The vibe at the salon is quaint and non pretentious at al which is a plus.

I went to Aerea salon this week for the first time, I have long dark brown hair and I've never colored it before I looked into balayage and decided to get it done after a lot of looking up different salons in manhattan and doing some homework, Aerea seemed to have the best reviews. My stylist was Anissa and she did an amazing job I'm so happy with my hair she really made my hair look just like the pictures I had showed her. I'm relatively new to New York and only have been to a couple other salons. Aerea was by far the best, definitely my go to salon from now.

Very thoughtful about my situation and listened to what I wanted, and blended what I requested, with what my stylist normally does with my hair...color and cut.

They squeezed me into what I can only imagine was a packed day, wouldn't compromise the quality of service & got me out of the salon in time for another appointment I had. I am absolutely dissatisfied with the service. I went to go get balayage with Alex because I freind recommend the place, at first everything was good I trusted him, I showed him a picture of exactly what I wanted and I got the complete opposite. My hair is a mess, the color is nothing like I wanted. I asked for a caramel color he gave me a super pale Ash blonde that doesn't fit me at all. I dislike it so much that I plan on waiting no longer than a month to dye it back. Definitely not worth the hype or the money. Look somewhere else

Extremely disappointed with how my hair came out. I went into this salon because I was fooled by their 5 star rating. I left there with my head between my legs, almost wanted to cry. I have long curly hair and I wanted to get belayage highlights. I showed Alex a picture of exactly what I wanted and my hair came out looking nothing like it. I am definitely going to go to another salon in a few weeks to try and correct what he did. It looks as if I haven't dyed my hair in almost a year and my roots already grew in ridiculously. I spent almost $400 on my hair for it to look horrible. I even left with my hair wet. Complete failure!!

I have been going to Aerea for about 2 years. David cuts my hair and has been helping me grow out my layers. Then recently I had to stop in to have Alex the owner fix a bad color job I did to myself. He was great. He fit me in that same day and after a consultation he recommended on just removing some of the cooler deep brunette that I had put in my hair to warm the color up to a lovely Auburn! Perfect! No additional color added or anything. He also spent time sharing how to avoid this in the future. How to color just the roots only not entire head each time. He was great. the experience never felt rushed. He really took his time and made me feel comfortable with the process. Always confident in what he was doing! I trusted him completely and so glad I did. Liz his wife works reception and they are a great team. Great friendly people! I highly recommend them! And it’s nice to support a local New York business to boot! Thank you guys!

This was my first time ever getting extensions done! I had been looking and looking for the best hair extensions in New York for a very long time. The very sweet and accommodating front desk suggested that before I book my appointment I first have a consultation with Liz, the hair extensions specialist of the salon. That way I would decide my self which type were the best hair extensions for me and my budget as she offers different types like tape-in hair extensions micro beads and great lengths. Despite my endless questions Liz was very patient and understanding of the fact that this was my first time getting hair extensions in New York City and I was very nervous to try someone new. I opted for the tape hair extensions which was within my budget ($1200) for the length and volume I wanted. In an instant Liz had matched my hair color perfectly and happily putting down my half deposit I got my appointment reserved right before my weekend in SLC. Fast forward to the day of my appointment, once I touched the extensions before being put on I was almost in tears at the softness, shine and quality of it and the thought that it would be mine when compared to my lifeless real hair. The entire process took only 3 hours as Liz had promised with no pulling or headache. While putting in the extensions, she was very thorough in explaining how to properly wash my new hair and avoid pulling on the extensions in order to "maximize my investment" as she noted. THUMBS UP for thoughtfulness far and beyond to just doing an excellent job with the application of the hair extensions! It's been a long time to feel this good about my self or about an investment done to it. I'm in love with my new hair and Liz, the one responsible for it.

I love Anthony Payne! Best hair colorist I've met! My natural hair is jet black and thick. I was bored of having long black hair all the time and didn't know what to do with it. Anthony is a perfectionist, he understands, listens and gives his best suggestions/advice. I started with just few highlights just to frame my face. I loved it so much and got so many compliments, I went back for more! He colored my hair 4 times in a period of 5 months, he used Olaplex to prevent damage between all the processes . He gave me an amazing balayage color and cut my hair beautifully. The haircut made the color pop even more! He's very professional and talented! I strongly recommend him.

I came in wanting platinum blonde balayage highlights on my hair that had been previously subjected to almost everything, from perms to orange dye and even hair extensions. Firstly, the atmosphere of the salon is very warm, light-hearted, and friendly, with great customer service from the reception--it made me feel right at home. Alex and Liz, who worked on me and also happen to manage the salon, were very nice and patient with me throughout the whole process, disclosing to me the full risks associated with what I wanted to do--the fact that my hair might not be able to handle bleach--and allowing me time to explore and consider my options. Alex was also very accommodating and receptive to the results I wanted, and spent a long time meticulously working through my very thick hair while humoring me with conversation. In the end, my hair came out great, with a nice shade of blonde and a good ombre transition from dark to light. Alex works miracles apparently--my hair is a testament of that given that it didn't get ruined under the bleaching--and I was impressed with the outcome, given what he had to work with (my unruly hair). The people here are really great, friendly, and down-to-Earth, and I'd love to come back again for a keratin treatment later on to strengthen my hair after subjecting it to all of this.

I love this place and I love Alex! This was the third time I've come in - the two before were for balayages that made me look (and feel) like a queen. This time around it was for a color correction. I had a semi permanent green/blue under a permanent jet black color with a chunk of bleached blonde in the front. So, a LOT going on. Alex talked me through the entire process and turned my hair into a beautiful beach blonde that was close to my natural hair color in just six hours. In short, a frickin' miracle! I'm obsessed with my hair now, amazed that it isn't damaged beyond repair, and will always come back here for any blonde colors. These guys are the best!

Also the girl that washed my hair did terrible job . I had dried bleach or whatever product that was on the side of my head . Terrible . Not worth the money spent .

This is the best decision I've made about my hair since living in New York. First impression of walking into AEREA Salon was noticing how clean the decor was and it being pretty spacious. I needed to get my hair color redone so I knew from previous reviews this was the salon to go to, even when being located in the Flatiron District which is quiet a hike for me. Alex was my stylist and he was very patient and worked quickly and definitely without lacking in technique. I normally have very thick asian hair so I knew time was key for amazing hair color. He exceeded my expectations in terms of skill and I really loved the final result. He even juggled between myself and two other clients. After the color I asked to cut off my dead ends and damaged parts. He skillfully cut off about 2-3 inches of my hair. I was also very persistent on a certain hair style and he managed to pull it off amazingly! If is by far the best hair salon in NYC I've been to! Definitely loved his work and the salon so I'll be back soon.

My favorite salon in NYC! The pink color in my hair was fading away and it was turning into a brassy orange. I wanted to get rid of all the red and orange shade. Alex did a really good job at taking out the warm tone of my ombre hair color, and now it's an ashy brown shade that I've always wanted. Got a haircut as well - I don't even remember when I had my last haircut before this. Now my hair looks more put together, and the ash tone stays put even after several washes. The salon itself had a very pleasant atmosphere, with French music playing in the background and contemporary paintings hanging around from Lilac gallery. The receptionist also had extremely nice customer service, which is always a plus as it is not always the case with hair salons in New York.

I've been dying to have my roots touched up so I decided to come to Aerea salon. When walking into the salon I notice how big and spacious the place really is. The design has a simple yet fancy touch to it, this is NYC after all! I was greeted right away and helped. Alex, my colorist, hung up my coat and we went to sit down and start right away. He was very polite and professional and when I explained what I wanted, he understood right away. The best part is he will repeat his interpretation of what u want back to u a few times to make sure! I had asked to get rid of the red tint color left from my previous hair color and to touch up the roots. Then, I also asked to blend in my tip color so that it would be more natural instead of straight across. After washing and blow drying, the results were just want I wanted. He got rid of the red tint by darkening the color and neutralizing it and he blended in my tip color to a perfect ombre hair color! Overall, he did an amazing job and the curls were great! I would highly recommend u to come here! It's worth the visit !

Even after my friend referred me to this salon I still went and read their reviews on Yelp and Facebook first! To my surprise I discover this was one of the best hair salons in New York and was excited to make an appointment. I've been searching for a great hair salon in New York and was thrilled when the frontdesk was able to fit me in the day and time I preferred for balayage highlights with Alex. As soon as I walked in, I was seated and asked if I wanted water, coffee, or tea while waiting since I was 15 minutes early. I find that very nice of them to offer. I didn't have to wait long until Alex finished the highlights on his previous client. As soon as his client left, he introduced himself to me. He was very friendly and it made me feel more comfortable (I was pretty nervous when I walked in). I showed him a picture of how I wanted the hair color to be and he gave me his opinion about it. Since the hair in the picture was curly and I naturally have straight hair, he gave me some ideas on how to make my hair look more wavy like the style I wanted in the picture. I really liked that he took his time to teach me. Overall, I had a great experience in Aerea salon. I was very pleased with the service. The final result of my hair came out almost like the picture I showed him!! He was very knowledgeable on the techniques and how to apply the dye to create a light/dark sort of dimension in my hair. He did an amazing job on my hair color and I am definitely a happy client that will be coming back!

Aerea Salon is the first hair salon in New York I have been to since moving to NYC from Florida. It was recommended as the best hair salon in New York from my very good friend, Cindy who happens to be an avid Yelp user so I had to trust her! I have been to the salon in total of 3 times and love the convenient Flatiron location between my apt in Midtown and my job in the East Village. I have worked with Alex every time. He has taken my hair to new extremes in the best way possible. I went from long dark hair with blue ends to a darker gray in one appointment. I then went back a second time to cut off about 8 inches of hair. I was scared at first but Alex, again, did a fantastic job! The third time, because I'm crazy, I went in asking Alex to make my hair white so I can do a lighter/pastel blue and yet again his experience did not fail me. He is the best with blonde highlights or in general with lightening the hair, whether you want to be a blonde or temporarily blonde and then sky blue like me! I am absolutely in love with my hair, this salon and their staff. All around great salon and I highly recommend going!

I first contacted the salon through their Instagram to figure out what I actually wanted by sending them pictures of what my hair looks like and what I wanted, they were extremely helpful and responsive. Alex was incredible! He fixed my badly highlighted ashy hair from another salon and gave me the golden balayage I was looking for. Alex is a color specialist and we need to discuss that. I've tried many hair salons in NYC and I've have done almost everything that could possibly be done to my hair and I've never encountered such a skilled professional as Alex. I walked into the hair salon with 2 inches of my natural hair color at the roots, a freshly colored very dark brown ( darkest inky brown which actually looks black) and very light damaged tips from having ombre done for the last year. The hair color that I wanted was the lightest natural brown possible. I was prepared because of the situation that my hair was in that I would need quite a few visits and I was ready to deal with the ugly in between stages. My hair has been lightened, colored again and again and I knew for a fact that it would almost be impossible to acheive even results when working with so many different colors at the same time. JUST one session, yes just one session, albeit a very long one was all it took for my hair to look the beautiful natural light brown hair color I wanted and I didnt even have to deal with the ugly middle stages as i was originally thinking. My next appointment with Alex is to add highlights to it as he suggested, which will compliment the color even more and I will never have to look back at the three different hair colors again.Im extremely happy! Now isn't he a hair genius? This is by far the best hair salon experience I've had in NYC.

They cut and styled my hair exactly how I wanted, which is super rare. The master took his time to figure out what I wanted and found the best way to do it given the specifics of my hair. The effort totally paid off, I am very happy with the work he did. It isn’t a cheap haircut, but is totally worth it, especially if you are looking for a significant change. An edit - they fixed my hair after a friend screwed it up. Life savers!

Hands down this is the best hair salon in NYC!! For those who haven't been here yet, quiet frankly you may not have had the best service of your life yet. The stylist was so honest and kind and will really guide you in what your hair needs are. I got balayage highlights / ombre hair color while covering my gray hair in the roots which usually would be around $400 in most salons. It ended up being only $280. He's not after trying to break the bank which is a rarity in hair salons. His ultimate goal is to satisfy you to the fullest and have you leave the salon as his most satisfied client that has sat in his chair. Aerea Salon just added me to their permanent client list. He is the best of the best!

Usually hair salons in the Flatiron District are obnoxious with ego driven stylists, rivaling the midtown NYC ones. Not the case with Aerea salon! Down to earth staff treating me respectively, like family while getting high standard service. Alex is a rockstar at coloring my hair. I always get what I ask for. I get balayage highlights, keratin treatment and haircut: yes all in the exact order as it was explained to me very thoroughly that while the highlights open the cuticle of the hair for the keratin treatment to penetrate deeper and rebuild my hair from inside out and then the haircut to remove any split ends. I’m hooked! Salons are in abundance in New York but finding an exceptional one with talented and down to earth at the same time hair stylists that make me feel like a million bucks is a hard work.

who hasn’t had one of those really bad days days where you feel like shaving your head?! I walked into Aerea Salon with less than half of the hair I had few days ago. I had tried to go from very dark to blonde in the same day at another hair salon in New York. Everyday when I wake up I swear my hair would shed a massive amount and whatever hair had survived didn’t feel any better than something that’s been overcooked. Needless to say that all of my damaged hair had to be cut off and that I definitely wasn’t looking like a Victoria's Secret blonde! I was all the colors of the rainbow, yellow blonde, strawberry blonde and ash blonde Thank God for Alex for saving my hair. He painstakingly applied 3 different formulas for each different band of color I had in my hair while at the same time trying to preserve the integrity of my hair. It was a complete pleasure seeing those colors in my hair and at the same time resting assured that I would never see them again. Alex also did my haircut. I will be going back to the salon for a keratin smoothing treatment. After my hair gains the strength back. Liz, the extension specialist at the salon suggested she will be able to do the extensions for me so I can have the length and volume back. Sounds like a hell of a plan to me and couldn’t be happier to have met these hair geniuses.

I'm visiting from Australia and wanted to find a salon that uses Olaplex so I have ny hair colours with minimal damage. Alex, the superstar colourist was great and so was everyone else at Aerea =) I walked in and first thing, Sarah took my coat and scarf and offered me a drink. Alex consulted with me on what I wanted... we agreed on a nice cut which looks amazing, me made it look so effortless! And once the colour was done, I was thrilled. I decided to come back the next day for highlights to add dimension and Alex is a miracle worker. He gave great advice for after hair care which I'll definitely take. Also, he really cares about the health of your hair and will be open and honest about what's happening as you go =) don't worry, you'll look awesome when you walk away from this salon!
