I highly recommend this salon to anyone who wants more than an ordinary haircut. The atmosphere is incredibly comfortable and classy. My hairstylist, Sam, was very friendly and took her time in the consult to make sure that she understood what I wanted done with my hair. I will definitely be going back to her. This is no ordinary men's hair salon. It's a niche business that nicely fills the gap between the ordinary barber and the women's high-end salons. I accompanied my partner to his very first experience with 18.8 at 20 Pine Street, Lower Manhattan. When we arrived we were shown to a sitting room with soft lighting where you can chill-out with on-the-house Nespresso, soft drinks, sparkling water, beer on tap and whiskey. We were early so we asked for coffee. After a short wait, my partner was ushered by the master stylist to his chair. A short consultation later, his hair was styled the way he wanted. After a wash and hair-dry, he had a quick facial and nail treatment. Services offered besides hair styling are colouring, waxing, blade shave packages, scalp and face treatment, manicure and pedicure. There are also memberships on offer and prices start from $585 for ten classic cuts, consultation, scalp cleansing, conditioner and hot towel finish. Included are ten cleanups between visits. There is no time limit on the membership - so you can choose to space out your cuts and cleanups over, say, 18-24 months. Why Eighteen Eight? The numbers 18.8 are so auspicious to the Chinese. To the owners of the business, the name is synonymous with transformation. Well, 18 per cent chromium and 8 per cent nickel transforms steel into better looking and better performing stainless steel. Equate this to Eighteen Eight, it wants to help transform men to looking and performing their best.

I fly a lot of places and do business globally, but I'm very meticulous about my hair. Once I find someone who knows what they are doing I go out of my way to ensure I utilize them. Amaro is that guy--his haircuts are precise and always spot on. I quite honestly will save getting a haircut till I'm in town because I know I can rely on him to make me look my best. Proof is in one of the common questions I get from friends and colleagues---"who cuts your hair?" And then the asking for the number. The other upside is he is accessible. He works a friendly schedule and is easy to make an appointment with since he's flexible. Some people look at the price and would rather have a cheap $20 haircut. And that's fine, but you get what you pay for. Amaro's haircut is worth every penny when I am always getting compliments on it. I mean...who am I though? Do you want to be known as Mr Perfect hair or the guy who checked the block and had his hair butchered by some Jackson at some other place while I'm busy having a beautiful woman notice I know how to take care of myself. (And probably take care of her too) the choice is yours. Level up my fellow men. Visit Amaro. Your welcome.

Let me start off by saying that I don't just let anyone cut my hair.... But I'm glad I did. This place is top notch! I get my haircut by Michael and he's truly a master barber. He takes his time and really knows what he's doing. Definitely the best cut I've ever gotten and I'll seriously never go to anyone else. I travel from Brooklyn to see him and it's definitely worth the trip. He does beard trims too which has been making me want to grow my beard out just to go back sooner. Lol

Always feel very looked after at this place, and Apani's attention to detail guarantees that the haircut (which after all is the most important thing) is just what I wanted.

Can't say enough good things about this place. I have been a regular for about 18 months and they have some of the best men's stylist in the area. The salon is upscale and they even have a complimentaru mini bar at the back where you can chill before your haircut. All the staff is super friendly and so helpful. It's top notch service. I have been getting my cuts from Samantha and she is the best in my opinion. Definitely worth a try.

Can't say enough about my experience at 18/8. As a former barber, I take my haircuts very serious. I had been going to the same barber for 12 years when I now decided I needed something more refined than what worked for me 12 years ago. The local shop offering the same old run of the mill 15 minute haircut for $15, had been leaving me feeling like something was missing. I needed more, I needed the expertise and care of a salon, but for grown men. I set out on my search for more and after a few underwhelming experiences in Brooklyn, I came across 18/8. After reading some great reviews and seeing how it is easily accessible, just a few steps off of the 4 train, I decided to make an appointment. Ah an appointmen! Something you just don't get at those other places. Well the reviews that I read didn't do this place justice! From the second I walked in, I was welcomed as if I was the most important person in the place. The woman at the reception desk, Diana, has such a pleasant, welcoming disposition and a great beautiful smile that really made me feel comfortable. I arrived a few minutes early, so she asked if I would like a drink. She began to explain the options of drinks which, to my surprise, included things like flavored teas, distilled water, and even something a little more stiff, if that's what you prefer. By going the extra mile to explain these options, she was showing that her goal is to make me happy. Now, being a former barber, I know a good cut when I see one. I had my appointment with one stylist, but I happened to see someone that just had finished getting their haircut from someone else, and it was similiar to what I wanted for myself and was done very neat and clean. I asked Diana if it was too late to switch, which she explained of course it wouldn't be a problem, but I could tell she had to do some juggling around to make it happen, which included speaking with the person i had my appointment with originally, and now fitting me in between appointments. Again, really going the extra mile to give me what I want and make me happy. Diana explained to me the many options for a haircut at 18/8, all that include a shampoo and conditioner treatment, as well as express services such as a manicure, eyebrows, a facial refresher as well as others. I've never had the option to be taken care of so well! I went for the executive cut which includes 2 express services, I chose the manicure and facial refresher. The barber, Amaro, really took the time to listen to what I wanted, my concerns about how I wanted it, and even what I didn't want and he offered his opinion. I wanted a low drop fade, but not a skin fade as my skin is easily irritated, with a trim on top, sort of a comb over look that is very popular right now. He understood and after a shampoo he began to work his magic. Each station at this place has a sink built in, so you never leave your chair. The cut was exactly what I've been looking for! Amaro made it look so easy. He knows what he's doing and is very confident in his skills and he should be. I enjoyed the manicure and really loved the facial refresher which are both done while you're in your chair. The manicure was done while I was getting my hair cut and the facial refresher had my skin feeling extra smooth and , well, refreshed! I literally felt like the best looking person walking down the street after I left there and some of looks I received seemed to agree ;). I have now been back to 18/8 four or five times ( I told you I take my haircuts very serious!) The haircuts from Amaro are consistent every time! That is a major component to retaining me as a client. I went ahead and purchased a membership as I know this is the place for a man that takes his grooming serious. The membership comes with 10 haircuts, 10 cleanups inbetween haircuts, an express service everytime, and 2 gift cards for friends to experience their amazing service. The value is well worth the membership.

I came here with my boyfriend when we were visiting NYC for the weekend. First of all, this place is super luxurious and classy. All of the staff were very friendly and accommodating. Such a disappointing experience. I figured I would try something new and interesting. I made an appointment and arrived on time. I was taken to the back where coffee and beer was offered and I got an espresso which was very nice. Then (Employee A) took me in for a cut and wax and she did a great job. Up to that point everything was great. But then I was informed the beard trim would be done by (Employee B). I don't get why the same person could not do it. I waited about half an hour and was about to leave, but they convinced me to wait a little more. Then (Employee B) did a razor shave but I had to tell him to do the trim. Why? That's the basics of the service. I had been there for 1.5hrs so I didn't ask anything anymore and left. When I got home I saw myself in the mirror, and the shave (non-shave) was awful! Patches of hair all over my neck. I had to shave myself. All of this for $110. I'm definetlty not returning. UPDATE: the manager left me a voicemail and offered a free shave. I'm still not going back, but I do give them credit for contacting a customer after a bad experience.

Terrible terrible shave... First he used electric razor all over the beard.. skin was already irritated with this... Then he used single blade razor only with some kind of lotion on face, without foam,.. cuts all over the chin.. who would do such double shave....did not like that all, never going back.... courtesy, lounge, friendly behavior, high price all is not worth if you are laving from there with a bleeding face...

18|8 is a nice salon downtown Manhattan. The prices are on the steeper side, but they’ve got some great stylists who take care of you. They also take care of you when you walk in and show you to a small, but comfortable lounge in the back where they offer you coffee, tea, whiskey, or beer to enjoy while you get your hair taken care of.

18|8 is my favorite Men's saloon in Financial area. It's a bit overpriced but hairstylists very skillful and young. They are suggesting best style for your hair kind and face type, before hair cut. After that complimentary hot towel feeling relex. Finally, talented hands cutting your hair. They offering membership (12 hair cut and complimentary clean-up), If you want to visit frequent, I recommend yearly membership.

would give two stars for the service, but the cut itself was so terrible I can't even do that. My stylist did whatever he wanted without asking me if it was what I wanted. He texturized the top which basically meant chopping everything off including my bangs - by the time I noticed it was too late to say anything. I had a perfectly fine undercut going in that needed some TLC on the sides and ended up with hair that's basically the same length on top as the sides - I don't know whatever in the world made you think I would like that. Once I got home the "texturized" top was completely uneven - as in patches of hair that stuck out two inches longer than the rest. Won't be coming back. Absolute worst haircut I've ever gotten.
