My wife states: Very cool atmosphere with original art works displayed throughout the salon. Apparently, it is rotated throughout the year to highlight several local artists. Trevor (one of the owners) assisted the very talented Alice with my color selection. She did an amazing job and I left very pleased with my experience. I am traveling through the USA and don't have the opportunity to see the same stylist more than once. The staff was very kind to print out the color requirements and a picture for me to present to future stylists. If you are near or live in Bozeman, MT, I highly suggest you give yourself the opportunity to experience Theory.

I saw Sarah today, and not only was she attentive and understanding, but she was communicative and very gently with my hair. Katie is the best!!! I have been stuck in a rut and decided to go out on a limb and am sooo glad I did. I feel for the first time in a LONG time I was actually heard. Katie took the time to listen to what I wanted while keeping in mind what would actually look good with my skin tone and age. She was knowledgeable and professional and am so glad I found her. I was nervous to try a new salon here in Bozeman after negative experiences elsewhere but I'm so glad I did! 1 1/2 months later I still get compliments on my hair almost daily. Holly was friendly, knowledgeable and obviously up to date on the latest and greatest techniques for cutting and coloring. I did pay more than what I'm used to, but as others have said, you get what you pay for and it was definitely worth it to me. If you're looking for a new salon in the area give Theory (and Holly) a try.

I started going to Theory a few years ago based upon good reviews on various websites. As a regular client, I was surprised that my rates (for a short haircut) increased 18% in the last year. I was told by the manager that the reason is that the stylist has more clients now. It is interesting that Theory management considers their profession as a demand/supply commodity. The more demand, the higher the price. Most concerning was that they forgot to tell the client about the price increase and simply assessed it one day out of the blue. I have gone to hair salons/spas in major global cities and have never had this experience. The price is not commensurate with the service they provide. I've moved on to another convenient place for a significantly lower price and a great stylist. By doing so, perhaps lower demand will bring prices down for another faithful client.

I’m giving 3 stars as I didn’t actually have an appointment, however went for a consultation. I was disappointed with how I would have needed to come in for multiple sessions in order to achieve the color I wanted. I am naturally blond, and was looking for an icier blond- I have had my hair done like this for maybe, 5 years now, and have never had to come in more than once for a process of color. I explained how I had a bad experience in the past with another salon in Bozeman who only used foils because the color came out right away after a week, and said it was okay (and that I actually wanted) to bleach my hair to achieve the look- but was disregarded. I felt like I wasn’t being heard, even though I was taking into consideration everything she was talking about- such as hair health. I know my hair, and it is healthy as it has always pulled through after a bleach. I have even gotten many compliments from former hair stylist back in my home state who have said my hair is extremely healthy for everything it’s been through. It’s been through a lot health wise, as I had had radiation treatment and surgery which changed the course of my hair, which did kill it for a little while, but it has never been healthier, presently. I also understand my natural hair (dirty blond) looks darker when compared to a lighter color on my head (dyed part), and people have mistaken me for a brunette. I am an artist (degree in painting) and understand color theory- which was another reason why I meh about needing to come in for a process- since I know stylists have mistaken me for a darker natural color. (Not saying AT ALL that I know anything about the process of dyes, but I do know how color work next to each other). This review isn’t to bash on anyone, as the woman I met was wonderful and I’m sure she does an amazing job!! Just the process part doesn’t work well with my schedule and I also felt weary about the whole thing. I feel like you should feel confident in what your stylist is telling you, they should have confidence in what they’re doing as she didn’t want to promise me anything, which scared me since I’m SUPER cautious about who does my hair, and have them listen to want you’d like as well, with a compromise (since I’m obviously not the hair professional). Hopefully this helps other naturally blond people as well.

I badly needed a haircut to fix a previous hack job and decided to take a chance while in Bozeman. I found Theory, read the great reviews below, and gave it a shot. AJ did an incredible job. She was immediately able to figure out how to cut my wavy, slightly poofy hair so it lays nice and straight when blown dry. The salon also has a nice modern, slightly eclectic feel, prices are reasonable for a good cut, and everyone was very friendly. Go! You won't be sorry.

I was referred to Theory by my boss, and I drove up to Bozeman from West Yellowstone every 6-8 weeks to get my hair cut for a year and a half or so.. Alice was amazing!! I moved to Boise a little over a year ago and have been through 4 stylists and still have not found someone as caring, respectful, and intuitive as Alice.. She listened to what I had to say and offered great insight. I'm seriously contemplating having an appt made for when I visit Montana this winter! Lol but seriously!
