I am a college student. I received a $25 off voucher and decided to see what a high quality, luxurious hair cutting experience would be like. After having difficulty finding a time that worked with me given the clunky scheduling tool, I decided to just try walking in. I was greeted and checked in promptly, and we got on with the hair washing. I have the sides and back of my head cut with clippers, leaving just about 3 inches of hair on top. The first time I got this cut my 16 year old sister did it. The second time, my mother did, and the third, my ditzy college friend did. I was thrilled with each of their performances, and loved my hair. I was really looking forward to having it a bit “edgier” like the salon’s advertising led me to believe would be the case. The stylist (Danielle, if I remember correctly) got to the “seam” between my short and long hair and kept trying to leave some hair in between, of medium length. When I kept telling her that that was not what I wanted, asking her to cut so that I only had two lengths of hair, she insisted that that would be impossible, even though two clipper virgins and my mom had managed to do it for me. I finally gave up trying to ask her to do it the way I wanted because she was so insistent. She took off my cape and strode over to the sinks, but I realized another piece that I wasn’t thrilled with. When I asked her if she could take a little more off there, she replied “Of course, anything you want. You're the expert here, I don’t know what I’m doing.” I was so looking forward to this experience, and was dismally disappointed.

Just got full highlights done with Martina. I came in with grown out, brassy, "ombré" curls, and Martina gave my hair a HUGE glow-up. Not only did she nail it on the color choice, but the details are fantastic-- the highlights around my hairline look beautiful, smooth, and natural. Definitely the best highlights I've ever gotten. Additionally, she really knew how to work with curly hair. Martina was very friendly and fun to talk to, and the rest of the staff was lovely as well. I can't really think of a better place to get your hair colored if you've got natural/ curly hair.

I was in absolute desperate need of a cut and color when Richard came to my rescue. I am not particular with the color or length; but Richard took my hair to the next level with his knowledge! I have never had a haircut that has looked so healthy and also compliments me! I cannot thank him enough... I am convinced to come back :)

My first visit I had asked for strawberry dirty blonde color transitioning from a dark auburn. Though this stylist did a wonderful job and was very nice, the finished product was a medium dark brown shade- very far from what I was going for. I called the manager the next day and she was extremely understanding and invited me back to redo it free of charge. Her name was Danielle and she was very diligent and really made sure I was getting exactly what I hoped for. I was extremely happy with the result, she even styled it and dyed my eyebrows for free and wouldn't even allow me to tip! Great experience, hospitable staff, would absolutely recommend.

Yesterday I had my first appointment at Salon Acote with Miriam! She is an absolute GEM and I'm so glad I found her!! She is friendly, genuine and last but not least... she knows what she is doing!! I had a terrible experience at a different salon getting my hair colored and my hair was in desperate need of help. Miriam took the time to understand my hair's history and then took time to explain what would be best for my hair to get it the color I wanted. She did a fabulous job with the color, and my haircut as well... I couldn't be happier!! I am someone who is usually so timid and nervous when trying out a salon, but Miriam immediately made me feel at ease and like I could trust her! Can't wait to go back!!! Oh and everyone at the salon was SO friendly and welcoming! Not at all snooty.

My usual hairdresser, Mihal, was busy today when I walked in. So, I opted for whoever was available, trusting that I would get a decent men's haircut. While I was not expecting a haircut of the same caliber that Mihal gives -- the end result was pretty disappointing. She cut way too much off and did not blend the length at all. I felt bad because it was clear that she was nervous and inexperienced, but her reply to the length was: "It'll grow back" and that's not something you say to a client paying $50 for a haircut.

Visiting Boston for a conference and called to make a same-day appointment for a simple updo. Was told I had to give my credit card # to book and would be charged 50% of the service ($50) if I didn’t show up (which was very strange... it isn’t as though I had even been there before, or missed any appointments.) I was a bit uncomfortable with this “policy” and the receptionist’s attitude (including sounding offended when I asked a ballpark cost of the apt...), and asked to call back to finish the booking (to call other places, obviously). The receptionist’s response was “oh, MY God” and HUNG UP !!... Needless to say, I did NOT call back or go there, and I don’t recommend anyone else either, unless they appreciate, and want to deal with nasty service.

Absolutely love this salon. My husband and I both always leave very happy. Alex does my husbands hair and is great company for my husband while he's waiting for me. Mihal always does a fantastic job with my hair. Really love the atmosphere and other employees. They are super friendly and welcoming. Definitely highly recommend.

Michèal is absolutely amazing and I only trust him to cut my hair—I haven’t had my hair cut by anyone else at this salon, but I’m sure they are great! The salon itself is great; everyone is extremely warm and welcoming. 10/10 would recommend.

I felt the need to write this review because after a couple of days walking around with THINNED out curly hair I took a full inch off the bottom of my hair and its starting to look better. My genuine inclination was to give complete trust to my stylist and I came in here seeking help to turn my bright red manic panic hair back to a more natural silver look. I got talked into this wild color scheme of colors because right away my stylist assigned to me said my hair was already quite brittle and dry and bleaching out the color or removing the color would break off my hair. I asked for black then but she kept talking me out of what I wanted so now I have a combination of pink, violet, magenta and red and it's really distracting and taking away from my normal healthy glow. I asked her to please just simply cut an inch off the back of my hair and mentioned my preference is more of a rounded shape. She basically added more layers in my hair and flat ironed it to the point where all my natural fullness was gone. I got my hair we today and the layers were not hitting right because all the curl was gone. I snipped off an extra inch of hair so this cut would lay more naturally. I am very upset right now since I was not prepared to give up so much length but since the cut was overly layered I had no choice and had to correct what she gave me. It's a matter of personal preference here. I simply wanted my hair to be silver again but she insisted my hair would be unhealthy then when I urged her to color it black I was encouraged to try a hue of different colors. I will leave my hair alone...no more bleach, no more color and no more trusting new salons with my curly hair. I paid a ton of money to be unhappy and I don't understand why they can give wonderful service here to a few lucky people and a shoddy experience to others like me. I am a pretty unhappy person right now... I just don't like the color or cut.

I got a haircut here a week ago, and I was completely satisfied. My hairdresser was excellent, the service was fantastic, and overall it was the best experience I've ever had at a salon. I strongly recommend it to everyone. And the prices are surprisingly affordable, $45 for a simple haircut, which is extremely cheap for their service.

I go to this salon for their great selection of Living Proof hair products - and it's a HUGE bonus that they are open on Mondays (vs. many other Newbury salons). The front desk is friendly too!

Miriam is my stylist and I've been seeing her for a little while now. She is AMAZING!! She came highly recommended by a friend who is the pickiest person I've met when it comes to her hair. She has moved out of state and although she's tried a bunch of salons, can't find anyone that cut and colors her hair like Miriam. I am lucky I don't have to worry about trying to replace her! Not only does she remember exactly what she did last time, regardless of how long its been, her technique is so amazing that my highlights look so natural and even grow out well, which is great since I am awful about upkeep and am lucky if I make it to her once a year. When I got married last year, I of course thought of Miriam for my updo and she was impeccable at that as well. She was incredibly patient on the day of the practice, looking through all my photos and making recommendations based on her experience. She showed up early on the day and every one of my bridesmaids LOVED their hair. Most of all, I loved mine! it held up in the hot August heat and still looked great after hours on the dance floor. I can't say enough great things about her!! The salon is fantastic as well. You can always count on an espresso or some wine while you're getting your hair done. I highly recommend going, and trying to make an appointment with Miriam specifically, she's a genius, you'll love her!

Definitely avoid here, the stylist just spent less than 25 minutes to do his ridiculous hair cut, and finally I got the worst hair cut ever in my life.

I've been going to Alex at Acote for years and years. (10 years? More?) The team there is totally personable and professional, and my hair always looks AMAZING. The ambiance is very much a European high end coffee shop... in fact, they have an espresso maker and often have snacks and wine. The music is always great--I've been sent home with a CD of Acote music before. They sometimes are running a little late, but they have a deck out back that's beautiful, and they're always very very nice. I really enjoy my time spent at Acote--it's like a little oasis on Newbury. Make sure to allow at least two hours for a cut. They take their time and it shows. Alex has cut my hair in layers, given me bangs, done a long bob, left it super long... he always does a great job and is always teaching junior people on staff how to do things--how to thin my (intensely thick) hair, how to do a better blow-out, how to cut inverted layers so the hair falls differently... It's a great spot and they're committed to making you happy and beautiful. Highly recommended! (Caveat: I don't get my hair colored, but tons of my friends do and I've heard nothing but raves about getting it done at Acote).
