I had some difficulties with a recent (complicated) service, but after speaking to a manager I am happy to say they heard me out and immediately fixed the problem. I never aim for expecting perfection, because that's a great way to be disappointed. But having a salon that has the talent to do the tricky coloring I want and that's willing to hear out any issues I have and work with me to fix them? Yeah, I'm definitely keeping my business at Hugo Salon!

Setting an appointment is easy with the online scheduling tool. They respond quickly and verify time and date. You receive texts reminding you of your appointment. The staff is super friendly and knowledgeable. Rosa always makes my hair look fantastic and pays attention to my "hair personality" (easy management, limited style time, etc). I have also had Katie do my bridal updo for my wedding. She is an awesome hair artiste - she created a look that seemed effortless and not overdone, while still making it intricate and interesting. Originally I went to Hugo on a whim because it was near my house, but now I wouldn't ever go anywhere else!

Nicer on the inside compared to the outside. The stylist dedicated a lot of her time to take care of my wife, and make sure she left happy. They have a nice waiting area with magazines, water, and hot drinks. Very spacious in general, which is something not very common in hair salons.

Only one star because the young lady who cut my hair was very nice. Got a hair cut in anticipation of a perm to make dealing with it at 4:45am easier. Got passed to another person to do the perm and she forgot to check the condition of my hair BEFORE the cut. No perm. Too damaged. Now I have a cut that will take me more time in the morning to deal with than before. If a client wants a perm checking the condition of the hair FIRST should be what they did. So a $73.00 haircut to make my mornings more of a pain. I shouldn't have to ask they do their job right at those prices. Had I been told BEFORE the cut I would have had them be less aggressive in the style.

HUGO'S DOES NOT DO ETHIC HAIR. I AM A WOMAN OF COLOR. Stylist, Athanasia (Thana), quoted a specific price point with me over the phone days before my appointment. Once I arrived at the salon I was informed that the priced wold be 40.00 more and Athanasia (Thana) refused to honor the price she quoted or make any effort to speak with a superior on how to comprise the issue. I expressed I felt uncomfortable with her cutting my already blowed and pressed hair , at this point, and Athanasia's response, " I already have 3 other clients here.." (implying she doesn't need my money)" ..and looking at your hair it would take me more than 30min to cut.."(implying she no longer has time to perform the service I discussed and scheduled with her) When I scheduled I specifically requested 1 full hour for my hair cut with her, because that is how long it has taken Athanasia to cut my pre-prepped hair in the past. I left without service and will never use Hugo's Salons services again.

I got my hair done with Marcela and I'm super happy with the results. I came in with terribly damaged hair and she was completley honest with what can be done to my hair without causing further damage. I wish I went blonde the first time with her. I have dark curly thick hair and my hair still feels soft after going lighter. Thank you guys so much!!

In 15 years I haven't left this salon without a smile. I have seen several stylists there and particularly love a few, Athanasia, Doug and Janet are all great. No awkward chair moments. All of the stylists work together and provide feedback so that you get the best treatment and look your best! I pray this salon never leaves because I would be a hot mess.

Katie was so nice, helpful and willing to work with whatever I needed and wanted. And the woman at the front desk, Michelle, so incredibly professional.

It's not for black hair. I wish that I could give 1 1/2 stars. 1/2 star - I walked into the salon and straight to my stylist Toni. I appreciated that. And 1 star for Amanda, the assistant. Amanda was the sweetest and God bless her for trying, but I won't be back. Nope. Yes, I knew it is an Asian salon. My salon back home is Korean and a black lady referred me, so I was truly excited to experience Hugo Salon. I thought I had hit the jackpot. Turns out I was disappointed and now I am down-right pissed. I am African-American and I get my hair pressed (up here they call it a blow out) - been doing my hair like this for more than a decade. I made the appointment for a blow out and curls. I got the blow out - no curls though. When she washed my hair it looked like I had been swimming - it appeared dry, matted to my head with dandruff flakes clearly embedded throughout. I made them wash it again. When it was time to blow me out Toni was visibly overwhelmed. She asked for help, so there were 2 hands in my head at the SAME time. Where I'm from this is a no-no and considered bad luck. It took them more than 30 minutes to blow me out. Yeah I'm black, but my hair ain't that nappy. Toni, the stylist that I made the appointment with, spent approximately 30 minutes or less on my hair. I was there for nearly 2 hours and majority of the work was done by Amanda the assistant. As Amanda was blowing out my hair in the back, Toni bumped my ends in the front. I asked for curls with body and volume and instead I got a few ends bumped. And my hair is mainly straight, dry to the touch and look. Now that really pissed me off. The old me would have just walked out of that place without paying - cause the opportunity was surely there. Luckily for Hugo Salon, the Good Lord has been working on me so I'll just write scathing reviews instead.

Two years ago I had my first haircut with Thana. It was also my first time at Hugo. Thana did exactly what I wanted with my hair after I explained what I was going for. She was friendly and made me feel comfortable. She gives the best haircut and always make sure it was a perfect and even cut. She’s my favorite stylist there. Due to her very busy schedule Rosa did my hair a few times and it always turns out the way I wanted. Both ladies are fantastic and friendly. Two years later I still go to Hugo- everyone is friendly there! Thank you Thana and Rosa!

I cannot overstate how awesome this salon is. I have been to 9 salons since moving to the DMV, and have never been happy....until now! I came in with a botched color job and cut from another salon. It was terrible. The staff jumped through hoops to fix it. Doug did an amazing job with the cut, and Janette took such care and patience to fix the color. Everyone was so incredibly friendly too! I will never go anywhere else as long as I live here.

I have been going to Hugo's for as long as I can remember and it is doubtful that I will ever change salons. I dont think I've ever left unhappy and the staff is extremely knowledgeable about their craft. The stylist I went to for years took a different job and moved to LA and I have since been seeing Mimi. She is an all-star! She has worked closely with me to create the look I imagine in my head and the finished product always turns out better than what I had pictured. The only downside I have experienced is that some of the newer employees that I believe are in training just don't seem to know what they're doing. I get that they're learning but still. One (I can't remember her name) ignored my requests when it came to water temperature and blow dry styling. Otherwise, I love Hugo's.

I've been going to this salon since I was about 13 (I'm turning 26 soon) and I still love it. Athanasia has been cutting mine and my mom's hair since I can remember. They're hair obsessed and care about you loving your hair. Everyone is super nice and super attentive. A little pricey, but I tried other salons that would feel nicer for my pocket and I could not find anyone that did my hair the way the people here and Thana do. You get what you pay for.

I've visited a few times over the past 5 or so years. I don't do much with my naturally curly hair but when I want to get a decent cut I go here. The stylists stay up to date on their craft and are pretty personable. Phenix is super sweet and pays great attention to what you want. She's realistic in making suggestions but doesn't over power you.

The owner's step daughter happens to be a manager (unfortunately I didn't catch her name so let's call her "Rude") at this salon and therefore thinks she can treat customers rudely. I went to have waxing done (I'm a regular customer who spends well over $100 every time I visit every 1-2 months) and was told to have seat while the lady I had an appointment with was told I was here. I waited 25 minutes and saw that Rude hadn't let the lady know I was here. So I went to the front desk and asked what was going on. Rude looked at me and then went and told the lady "she's been waiting 25 minutes, why didn't you come get her?". The lady (who had no idea I had been waiting because Rude hadn't told her) said "I didn't know she was here". I told Rude that it wasn't the lady's fault, SHE should have told her I was there (just like she had said she would do). Rude proceeded to talk about me in front of my face and said "your customers are so difficult!" and then left. I was livid. Just because I'm not white doesn't mean I don't have a valid complaint. I was kept waiting for OVER TWENTY-FIVE MINUTES and then told I was "difficult" - that is just ludicrous! If you want to be treated fairly, don't expect to get it from this RUDE person who has no clue how to treat customers in a service industry. I'll go back to the salon because the lady who does the waxing is wonderful, not because of this rude person's pathetic excuse for customer service!

I have been a client for almost 20 years. Don't let the tattoos and rainbow hair fool you: they do all types of hair from cutting edge modern to classic. This family owned shop operates without a hint of pretentiousness. They have a diverse customer base and speak many languages in addition to English. They are laid back, fun and always emphasize healthy hair above all. I love coming here. ❤

Very Disappointed they don't have anyone at 9:30am to take a walk in haircut but they're 3 stylists sitting around on their phones. They open at 9. Told me they could take me as a walk in at 2 pm but my flight leaves at that time. Been coming to Hugo's for years without an appointment and have never been turned away till today.

Hugo's has been my salon for the last 17 years and I have always been impressed by their services. Recently I used them for makeup and hair for my wedding and the stylists were extremely friendly and responsive to the look I was going for. They both gave me great suggestions for making my hair and makeup last throughout the evening and I couldn't have been happier with how everything turned out.

My whole experience at Hugo salon was great. I made the appointment this week via email and was in on Saturday afternoon- didn't have to wait at all. I got my hair colored by Phoenix...she's amazing!! She listened to exactly what I was looking for and made recommendations without being pushy at all. I had balayage and wanted to go back to my original color and she did a beautiful job, even mixing a few different colors to make sure my hair looked uniform and had some depth. She also had a lot of great advice- it seems like all the stylists here are experts and great at what they do. Overall I am so happy with my hair and experience...I will definitely be coming back!!
