Great experience. Melanie was great- she was very intuitive and knew how to accomplish exactly what I was looking for (color correction). I knew I was in good hands right away. This was probably the best salon experience I've ever had. I felt like Melanie, and Patrice (who assisted because I came in just before closing time), were both passionate about their craft and good at tuning into what the client actually wants. I find that often times the stylist is hardly listening to what you want- they have their own idea in their head. This is why I generally just avoid salons and have my cosmetologist friends cut my hair. This was an entirely different experience though- these ladies were tuned in and had no other goal than to make you feel pampered and to flawlessly create the look you want. Would recommend this place to anybody I know. You might pay a little extra but it's well worth it. Thanks guys!

Could not be happier with this salon. I called on a Tuesday, got an appointment on a Wednesday with Surena who is an honest to god ARTIST. I had a complicated hair situation, since I've been DIYing my own colors for years, she was unfazed by the hot mess on my head and completely transformed my hair. The salon is incredibly cozy and welcoming, with snacks and drinks while you wait. Surena goes over costs with you before hand so you're not blindsided by anything at the end. The Color Bar has all the colors displayed and they mix them right in front of you which is a cool way to display the process. A really unique place; if you're looking for any sort of hair services (especially coloring) I HIGHLY recommend Art of Hair. Follow them on Instagram, the proof is in the posts!

They were great! I went in because I was looking for more than one of those mall get you in and out salon's. This place was great. The stylist talked with me beforehand and really got to know what I wanted and then took great care into getting to know my hair (which can be very finicky). Even the shampoo was amazing and the massage they gave my scalp was the perfect way to start off the weekend. I am definitely looking forward to my next hair cut there!

Art of Hair is my absolute favorite salon, hands down. The salon offers a tranquil atmosphere that cannot be beat by any other salon in Howard County. Katherine, my go to stylist mixes up hair color right in front of me at the "color bar" and then applies it, she also gives a phenomenal neck and head massage. The other sylists are amazingly friendly and interact with me during my color process and hair cut, offering coffee and complementing Katherine, they are all clearly a team and family that support one another. Every color and cut has been perfect and I would highly recommend visiting Katherine and Art of Hair anytime for a color or cut!

About a month ago, I totally screwed up my own hair from a box color one night (around midnight...terrible idea when I had work the next day). I immediately Googled hair salons near my job. I found Art of Hair, which had amazing reviews, so I e-mailed them through the e-mail form on their website in hopes of them having an opening the next day to fix my hair. I didn't expect a response because most companies take forever to reply to the e-mail forms they have on their websites. The next day, I had no choice but to go to work the with bluish/purplish hair (blonde) and hope to hear back from Art of Hair. It was as if they called me as soon as they opened and received my e-mail! They called me on my way to work to try to fit me into their schedule to fix my hair as soon as possible. They were able to take me at lunch time, so I only had to be embarrassed at work for the first half of the day. I was greeted by Patrice, who gave me a tour of the salon and made me feel extremely comfortable and respected (different from other salons I've been to where they have immature disrespectful young adults working at the desk and treating you as if they could care less to have your business). I'm a young adult myself, so I'm surprised I had to be treated that way at a professional salon. Patrice worked with my budget and most importantly my time limit (because I had to get back to work). She did an amazing job taking the blue/purple out of my hair and choosing the perfect toner based on the tone I described. My hair was an easy fix, but I'm still extremely satisfied with the service and treatment that I received at Art of Hair. I highly recommend this salon. I'm returning today for my first cut and actual color with Patrice. Thank you Patrice and Art of Hair for providing such outstanding service.

ATTENTION TO ALL THOSE WITH CURLY HAIR!!! DO NOT GO HERE!! If you do your worst fears will come true!! First, I have curly hair and only wear my hair curly because I did love my hair! So this is for only curly headed people! So it had been about a year since my last hair cut because the last place I went to also messed up the cut but I need a TRIM! So I was hopefully about this salon. After telling numerous people about what I did not want, like cutting the hair way, way too short, no layers, frizzy, not using the correct or enough product, using a brush, and using a hair dryer, you know all of my greatest fears. Sadly I don't think they listened to a word I said. When they were washing my hair they gave me some sorta of "massage" which gave me horrible pains in my neck and head later that day. Then they processed to brush my hair! To people with straight hair might not sound like such a big deal but it's a major no no for curly headed people! I wanted long layer in my hair. Their idea of a layers are all the same length except for one single long curl in the back. My hair curly was about 4 inches below my shoulder, it's now above my shoulder and huge because it has no layers in it. So after they were done chopping off my hair they only put leave in conditioner along with one other leave in product. Twisted my hair into curls with her fingers but never once placed any sort of gel or mouse in my hair. The worst thing was when I was put under the dryer then she ran her fingers through my hair after it had dried ! Right then and there was when I knew this woman had never really worked with curly hair before. She kept running her fingers though it trying to make it less frizzy but it looked horrific. The worst part is there is really no fixing this mess they have created until my hair grows. Maybe in 2 years I might get another hair cut. I only wrote this review to try to save someone with curly hair from this greatly unjustified torture!

What a cute little place! So, it’s been about a year and a half since someone dealt with my mop and I just had a baby, so I desperately needed a to do something with all this hair. Everyone was so welcoming when I arrived and was immediately shown around the little areas of the shop. When I met with Katherine, she went over everything with me - what I’m currently doing to maintain my hair and figuring out the style I was looking for. She then told me how she would go about cutting my hair and then we went over pricing. I decided on a haircut and style, because #treatyoself. Anyway, so she initially chopped off maybe 7 inches of what I didn’t want, then went to shampoo. I was also treated with a nice head massage. After pretty much falling asleep from it, we went back to the chair and that’s where she really worked her magic. About a half an hour later we were done. She also recommended some products that she thinks I would like to go with my new haircut. I haven’t felt this good about myself in a hot minute. Katherine made me feel AND look like a human again! I seriously can not recommend this place enough!!!

I'm not originally from the area and wanted to dye my hair for the first time. I got an appointment with Kendra, and everything was wonderful! The salon really makes you feel pampered. The entire staff is very friendly. Kendra really took the time to figure out what I wanted, and to give me advice on styling my hair on my own (not something I've spent much time on in the past). I am very happy with the results, and definitely plan on going back.

I was very fortunate to come across this salon almost immediately when moving into the area. The atmosphere it welcoming, relaxing, and inviting, and the people who work there truly understand their craft. Though at first I was nervous because the price was more than I was familiar with paying for a haircut, I also happily found quality far beyond what I was familiar with! I got a seriously good cut that lasted and styled well for a long time. Melanie has done an amazing job with my hair and really listens to what you want and offers great suggestions. (She's great for ladies like me with big ol' long and thick hair) She remembered my past appointments and what I liked done with hair. Great haircut by Surena! I appreciated that she took time to get to know me (and my hair) as well as what I was looking for. She was able to give me the look I wanted while working with my natural waves. She also kept in mind my desire for low maintenance styling. The salon has a great vibe. You can try out products with their product bar and you can get a sample product of what they use to try at home before committing to a full size. Look forward to continuing to get my hair styled here and try a color service. I’m really glad I tried this salon and I definitely recommend others do as well.

This post is way over due because I have been going to Art of Hair (The Salon) since last November, and have always left there feeling and looking amazing!! Patrice- Had my 1st cut and experience with Patrice in November 2012. My hair was super damaged from a previous salon's poor perm. Patrice introduced me to the Awapoi line, and treatments. After my first treatment you could literally see and feel the difference. I had long hair at the time, and Patrice gave me fabulous layers and a fantastic blow dry! (Not one single strand of hair was wet, it was nice, sleek and it looked so pretty that I didn't want to wash my hair for days!) The next time I went was to get Victorian Rolls, and I was not let down. The style was great and I received lots of compliments on the up-do. Melanie- Melanie is a godess with scissors! After growing out my hair for 3 years and nearly down to my waist, I decided to cut if all off to an A-line bob! Melanie was very patient with me, asked me a lot of questions to make sure she understood what I wanted and even gave me suggestions on what may or may not look good for my face. At the end I left elated! My haircut was so precise and perfect. And to make things even better, I just went last week and cut my hair to a pixie short Rhianna infused style cut. Melanie worked her magic and I left feeling fabulous! I really really love this salon. The prices and products are moderate to high, but I can honestly and truly say you are paying for quality cuts, blow dry, color, and salon service. They have everything you want, and are professionals! I even got a cut once which was perfect, but I didn't necessarily like how it looked on me; I called them and first thing in the morning, I was right back in the chair with a new do, free of charge. They really aim to please their customers! I would refer them to anyone and everyone who is looking for quality hair cuts, styles, product and service. The team at Art of Hair (The Salon) is awesome!!

I've been going to various hair cut places for years in Maryland, trying to find someone who can cut my hair in a way I like it. At many of those places, I was just another hair cut, so personal preferences didn't really matter. Even when my wife convinced me to "upgrade" to salon-level hair cut establishments, I had trouble getting someone who would cut my hair while accounting for its (what I call) stubbornness. Recently, my wife got me an appointment with Melanie, and she's been great. She remembers the length I like my hair and more importantly, how to cut it according to the style I want. That makes styling it between appointments so much easier. She recommends products that she knows can help, but she isn't pushy about it, so I don't feel like I'm being forced to buy something. She listens to what I want my hair to look like and works with it to bring it out. Overall, I think Melanie is the best person I've had cut my hair in years, if not decades. The salon itself is very welcoming, and you can tell everyone that works there is like family. I highly recommend the Art of Hair salon, and ask for Melanie!

I moved here from VA and I was looking for a decent haircut then I found Art of Hair. It's PERFECT! They have drinks for free and a friendly staff. Katherine gives a perfect haircut and crystal cleaned me up with a shampoo to top it off. I always leave feeling relaxed. I had an amazing experience at Art of Hair in Savage. I moved here in October and needed a haircut BAD. After looking up reviews of local salons, I decided to try out Art of Hair because they seemed the most impressive. I am SO glad I made that decision. I was a walk-in and didn't know if they'd have time for me. Not only did they make time for me, but they gave me the best experience I've ever had at a hair salon! They gave me a tour, offered free refreshments, and had me describe what I wanted in a haircut. I got a consultation and haircut from Melanie and will definitely be requesting her when I go back. She really listened to what I wanted, taking into account my lifestyle and hair type. I am very laid back about my hair so she made sure she gave me a cut that would do well without product and can be pulled back at work. I have very curly hair too, which can be challenging. Hair stylists love to cut it like it's straight and blow it out to make it look good, which is not very complimentary (curls are pretty too, jeez). Melanie cut my hair to enhance my curls. I have honestly never had a better haircut in my entire life. It's been a day and a half and I've already gotten several compliments! I'd also like to mention that so many times, a hair stylist tries to push product on me that I don't think is realistic for me. Melanie only told me about a couple of products that actually suited me. It felt great to know that she was offering only what she felt was best, not just for the sake of making a sale. I will definitely be going back and referring them to any friend who wants a great haircut.
