I typically go to the black cat for all my hair and waxing needs. They're the go to place after all! Recently I went in for their October special and got my hair cut by Justin. It was so amazing that I requested he do my color as well and I was not disappointed. He may be new but he knows his way around a ladies hair like a pro. Ask for Justin next time you book your appointment; you won't regret it!

If you are Blonde like me ( but not so blonde naturally) Michelle is awesome and knows what she's doing to get your hair the exact tone that you want!

Kate was wonderful as always making my brows behave. However, it feels awkward to sit reclining in the main salon, eyes closed, loud music, trying to relax for a few minutes while she shapes and tints my brows. I much preferred the old set up in the small private office space. Just feel kinda vulnerable and weird in the current set up. Also, the fee is the same for a much less enjoyable experience.

Avoid this place. You'll be extremely overcharged. There was nothing wrong with the haircut and highlights that I got. It looked fine. But what would usually cost me $150, cost me $275. I don't feel like I should be paying for their choice to set up in an expensive downtown Kailua location with high rent. I also feel that $275 for something that I can get for $150 just damn ridiculous! They also had an issue with me bringing my baby in even though he stayed in his stroller the entire time. So now I have to pay $275 to get my hair done and pay a babysitter $12 an hour back at home? I don't think so.

I always have amazing experiences at Black Cat Salon. They're friendly, professional, and great at accommodating my ever-changing schedule. I'm blonde and I've had a really hard time finding someone that doesn't turn my hair Orange with highlights. Chelsea fixed my hair and I can now say I love it. She always listens to what I want and delivers every time. The atmosphere is very relaxing and it's a nice touch that they also give it a hand and scalp massage. I love this salon so much I drive all the way from Kapolei so needless to say I highly recommend them.

Please believe me when I say that I'm not difficult to please! However, I REALLY had a problem with this place....not only because of the suspected relationship to the infamous Lanikai cult but because the atmosphere was more "funky" than professional. The salon equipment was most uncomfortable....chairs with no place to rest your feet and washing bowls that were awful on your neck. The stylist I saw was good but I was never out of there in less than 3 hours. She had other customers she worked on while my dye was processing and I would often be left waiting in an uncomfortable chair much too long after being shampooed. For years I would have touch-ups every 4 weeks and highlights added about 3-4 times a year. I expected that it would be the same when I moved here. It upset me that, instead of adding highlights every 3-4 months, this stylist wanted to add them every time she saw me. For these reasons, I was not at all satisfied with this salon and decided to take my business elsewhere.

I discovered Black Cat because a friend of mine said I should try going to an Aveda salon. First, I will never go to another salon that isn’t Aveda. The products are first class and they have truly changed the health of my hair. Second, and most importantly, I ADORE the Black Cat Salon. The stylist are always friendly and in good spirits. Heather does my hair and it always comes out beautiful and just what I asked for (or better!) I highly recommend this salon and especially Heather!

Really disappointed, cause I was really looking forward to going to black cat, if heard good things about it, but unfortunately my experience was not up to par. The stylist was nice, but she seemed unsure of herself, considering she changed her "plan" for coloring my hair three different times. She originally quoted me almost $500 for the cost. I was a little surprised at the price, so then she suggested just cutting it first, then coloring, and said this would save me $100+. The haircut was pretty good, which is why I'm giving it 2 stars. But when I came back to have my hair colored, she insisted that a full highlight would be the best route to go to achieve what I wanted. I told her that I wanted my hair all one color and that I didn't think highlights would be the best way to go, but she convinced me otherwise. She ended up bringing the piece of paper which she had wrote my quote on from the last session, and thank goodness I realized and brought it to her attention that she had said it would be at least $100 cheaper if we cut my hair first (which at this point, we had already) so she ended up saying "ok I'll take $60 off, because my hair cuts are 60" which made no sense to me, because she had originally told me that the pricing goes by how much formula they have to use on your hair, and the fact that I had actually paid close to $100 for the cut itself, not $60. But I went ahead hoping that they wouldn't have to use as much formula as she was anticipating, since my hair was now significantly shorter. The highlighting process took forever, and this one girl kept yanking my hair SO hard that my eyes would water. Then they ended up leaving part of it to process for WAY too long. I brought this to their attention that it had been well over an hour for the lower part of my hair, and another girl said she would pull out the foils in a few minutes. Then she LEAVES to go on her lunch break! So the bleach in my hair was on for almost an extra 30-45 mins. Then when they went to tone it, they washed the bleach out of my hair, and then started brushing it with no conditioner, nothing. You're not even supposed to brush wet hair at all, much less after it's been bleached. I could HEAR my hair ripping as they yanked it all about for a second time. By the time I was done, my scalp was so sore that it started peeling the next day from the bleach being left in so long, and them pulling on my hair so hard. They also managed to ruin the back of one of my favorite shirts with bleach. I think because they got it all over the back of the chair, then didn't wipe it down before they removed my apron. My hair looks nothing even close to what I wanted, and now I'm gonna have a hell of a time fixing it myself, because of the insane amount of highlights and stripes all over my head. It honestly looks awful... ☹️ And their sketchy pricing system did end up costing me several hundred more than she originally claimed. I begrudgingly paid, went home, looked in the mirror, and literally cried.

Justin did a simple dark brown color and layered my hair but he did an amazing job and even found a brown with a purple undertone like I wanted! (but I didnt even tell him that he just knew) All of the staff were very welcoming and they make sure you are taken care of! The arm and hand massage after the hair rinse is definitely very relaxing. I would 10/10 reccomend going here!

I've gotten my hair cut by Hi'i and Michelle here. They were both excellent. The service and friendliness of the staff is amazing. I love that you get a massage with your hair cut too. It is expensive but I don't get my hair cut that often so it's worth to me over crappy cost cutter type places. Also love the AVEDA products they use!

I’d heard only good things about Black Cat and was excited to find my hairstylist since moving to Kailua. The haircut was good but the constant sales pitch on products throughout the cut made me feel like I just left a used car lot. Not very relaxing at all which is one thing I look forward to when getting my haircut.
