DO NOT COME HERE!!!!!! The lady was very nice who did my fiancé’s hair and kindly did her hair twice even tho they both turned out bad. After two fails at doing a balayage. She just could not get the blending right and we had people telling us to get a refund because it looked ugly. So then we proceeded to talk to the owner who’s name is Gary, who is the most disrespectful, uneducated, and most rude person we’ve ever spoken to. And this guy is so uneducated about hair and literally knows nothing haha. We told him that the hair wasn’t blended right and he had no idea what that meant and kept asking us what we mean by blended. SO WHATEVER YOU DO, DONT GO TO J SALON.

I checked out many places before making an appointment. I drove around to different locations, read reviews, consulted friends and ultimately chose J Salon. The salon is beautiful. Sleek, modern, inviting. The receptionist was kind enough to show me around when I popped in. I wanted a cut and balayage. I like my fine hair to look healthy and natural and the sun lightens it too much. I brought pictures, I am not a difficult case. I just expected the result to be similar to what I asked for. I did not complain. My time is valuable, just as yours is. If you can't do it right the first time, I won't be back.

ask me to pay $110 for reservation for single process roots because 24 hr cancellation policy. $110for one color root is twice as expensive as most places but asking me to pay $110 and come back next time I visit was absolutely rude and ridiculous

The best haircut I've ever gotten in Hawaii! I love what Joe did for me with my thick, curly, crazy unruly hair. He listened to everything I asked for then thoroughly explained why my approach was the complete opposite of what I wanted. I am so glad I trusted him because he understood my hair more than I... and I've lived with it for 39 yrs! I have never seen my hair so healthy and shiny with all this humidity EVER! No frizz, just soft smooth moveable hair. Oh and the service is the cherry on top because they are on top of everything including the awesome scalp massage during the shampoo. Highly recommended and I'm utterly grateful that I've FINALLY found my go to salon and stylist since moving back to Hawaii.

Gerry Brown is the most professional and knowledgeable eyebrow, make up and tinting artist I've ever worked with. My brows were badly shaped and sparse when I first went to Gerry for a consultation. Over the past four months, she's carefully worked to reshape my brows to better accent my face. My face looks more balanced and my eyes larger ( I have really small eyes ) after Gerry's help. The salon is tucked away in a corner of Ward Village. You are greeted warmly as you enter, offered a beverage, nice waiting area with reading material and leg room. I am always notified in advance of appointment dates and times by call and text. The J salon and Phil's Barbershop share a sleek, bright, airy space. Parking is free either in front of the building or in the parking garage. There are bathrooms on site. Prices vary depending on what you want, reasonable for a salon of this caliber. Very happy to have discovered this place.

I have been going to this Salon for a few years now, and I truly enjoy it. The prices are completely acceptable, especially considering the amazing qualities of their work. I honestly suggest that others who are interested in having a professional hair cut in a great environment should check out J-Salon. The stylists are great in providing positive feedback when discussing hairstyle/dye ideas. I have walked in there with 'THIS COULD BE AWESOME IDEAS' which can be a bit wild, but with my idea's and the suggestions and tips provided before hand I have always walk out of the salon feeling great and truly enjoying the work provided. Recently I decided to have fun with some layered dye, which I was rather nervous but excited for. Not only am I truly adoring it, but it didn't cost nearly as much as I assume it would.

First hair salon I’ve gone too since ive moved to hawaii and it was the best decision ever. The shampoo was amazing, i came in with a headache and the massage made it go away. Kennedy is amazing, she listens and does exactly what you want to your hair. My hair feels and looks amazing after leaving that place and im never going anywhere else. 10/10

Kennedy did my hair.color and cut earlier this week and I can't recommend her enough! She was able to take the somewhat vague ideas I had and make them materialize into a cut and color I am very happy with. She was friendly and carried on a good conversation too, which is very important when you're sitting in the chair for a while! The gentleman at the check in/out desk was also friendly and professional. I considered giving J salon 4 stars because of the late afternoon sun blazing through the glass wall and covering the whole salon (but Kennedy was just.too awesome to only give 4 stars). I found this very distracting as a customer - requiring sunglasses inside for a little while - and more importantly, I felt the owner/manager should have addressed this with some window coverings for the comfort of their employees, who are already on their feet all day and needn't be covered in sweat as well. I believe they've been in the current location for about a year and a half. I asked about this and understand management is working on getting some window treatments. I do hope to see those next time I return. Kennedy is great, go see her!

This place is the most horrible experience I've ever had in my life due to the owner, who is supposed to be customer care!!! Lena I suppose did my hair the first time, and I'm sure she did her best. However, was unable to cut my hair the way I wanted it, even with pictures. I walked out of there devastated, because I work hard for my money. I still paid my bill and tipped her out of the kindness of my heart because of her great personality which was noted. Wish I could show the picture. Lena not very good if you want a short haircut. Decide to grow butchered hair out and try out the owner, he was so rude, and instead of doing an honest assessment to the damage done, he aggressively pulled random pieces of hair telling me "look you see this" "It's even" "well maybe the sides is a little off" because he felt offended that I complained. I thought the first time with Lena was devastating but leaving there the second time without a cut and being attacked by the owner was more traumatizing then the cut I got!! Rather than trying to get in the solution, he kept trying to defend his ego very rudely, and would not be open to any possible mistakes. I did my best to be honest in a most tactful way wanting to leave out the past damages to my hair and start fresh! All I was looking for is a good cut. Very poor customer service, and very poor client care, worst poor poor communication. Thank god I did not let him touch my hair, he looked like a demon if you ask me!!! Whatever you people do, just know that he is not good at admitting mistakes. God forbid you have any complaints!!! He's wolf in sheep's clothing!!!

False advertisement, poor customer service and very rude manager. J Salon promises every customer a complimentary bang trim between haircuts, but beware and make sure you know the fine print before you are charged and treated with disrespect. This advertisement of a complimentary bang trim in my experience was not honored for the hair cuts I have purchased and was paired with a very negative interaction with a rude Manager. I have had two haircuts with J Salon with different hairdressers. I did not take advantage of the first bang trim I was owed, so after the second haircut I made my appointment for my “complimentary” bang trim. Please note it was NEVER explained to me that the bang trim had to be with the hairstylist most recently seen, so my appointment was made with the first stylist as I was unaware it mattered. What I thought was complimentary I ended up being charged for AFTER THE FACT, as my bang trim was with the first hairstylist I had seen (who I never got my complimentary bang trim from) instead of the second stylist. Might I add this explanation and charge was done in a very rude manner by the Manager himself. I recently called to schedule the “complimentary” bang trim that I am stilled owed per their advertising. The same Manager said that since I have had a bang trim in between haircuts I no longer can have a complimentary bang trim and I would be charged if I come in. This salon charges way too much money to have such poor customer service paired with a pretentious attitude and false advertising. I will be taking my money to a more pleasant experience where I don’t feel manipulated and am treated with the respect that every customer deserves.

Second time going here, going from box color black to a now very light brown and couldn't love it more. My stylist was Melvin both times; and I plan on going to him again.Professional, funny and did an amazing job. Would recommend to anyone.

I highly recommend Catherine for hair and Gerry for eyebrow shaping as well as makeup consultation. Several of my friends who live on the mainland always make it a point to schedule an appointment with them.
