I'm not generally a review writer, but I'm so disappointed in my experience that I really felt it necessary. I made an appointment with Nikkia (Owner) for 4:00pm and called to have the time changed to 3:00pm because I wanted to give extra time, just in case anything came up. Initially I was told that I couldn't change the time, however the lovely receptionist called back to let me know that I could come in earlier. I made it to the salon and got checked in. I've spent my entire life in salons and should have known better, but I opted for the benefit of the doubt. However, I was wrong and should have walked away when:
1.I have natural hair and I just took my braids down and a brush was used to detangle before washing.
2. He leaves my hair and tells me his assistant will finish brushing it out. Which is fine because I didn't realize at the time that she would be doing more than brushing.
3. She proceeds to wash my hair and even though I provided my own shampoo she used something else for the first wash, even though I specifically said I had to use that shampoo.
4. I was supposed to do a steam and after sitting under the dryer for two mins, I accept that nothing is happening and call her over. I then realize that she's not aware of how it works and hadn't put water in. Another stylist came over and was kind enough to assist her. We get through that and it's on to the next step.
5. My hair is being blown out and the stylist that i booked hasn't been back to my hair and we are now 2hrs in. The other stylists have all been attentive to their clients, did multiple individulas and I'm just chilling with the assistant.
6. I've now rescheduled my makeup and dinner reservations and accepted that I'm not leaving anytime soon.
7. My hair has been tugged at, scalp hurts, left so long it dried out in some parts and I'm unsure if a heat protector has been used, but we made it and I'm all blown out.
8. I look at the time and I've officially been there 3hrs and not one bit of hair has been pressed. The young lady signals for me to follow her and I think, I'm all set and to my horror she puts me back under the drier.
This is where I officially call it quits and ask for the cost of what I've done so far. The owner comes out and I explain the concerns and he unapologetically states that this is his process. He further pointed out that they were also accommodating my request to come in earlier, while ignoring the fact that I was fine with coming in at my original time. It also doesn't mean that I should have been there for over 3hrs. I would have been fine sitting there all night, if the person i signed up with was actually doing my hair and I was seeing progress.
As a new customer, I expect the process to be explained and to be made aware that while I've booked with you, I will have someone else involved in the process. Needless to say I will not be going to dinner tonight, I will not be getting my deposit back for the makeup appt. and 3.5 hrs later my hair still hasn't been pressed and I'm on my way home.
They were kind enough to give me a hair tie to put my semi-done hair up, so I guess that's a plus. It would be unfair of me to not recommend this salon, because I didn't go to multiple stylists and they all seemed genuinely nice, but I would not recommend Nikka.
