I'd not had a haircut for close to a couple of years (since I moved here) and had no idea what I wanted except for a very vague reference image. Amelia knew exactly what it needed and I'm really happy with my new haircut. I know where I'm going for all my haircuts while I'm in Athens! Everyone else was super nice too! :)

The stylists here are wonderful! Michelle is basically a hair whisperer for fine-haired ladies such as myself. I absolutely adore her vibrant personality and hair knowledge. Stephanie, their in-house aesthetician, is a sweet soul who makes my skin so happy. I am always delighted with my experience at Model Citizen. These folks genuinely care about their craft and their clients. I realize that prices can be intimidating, but it's truly worth it. By the time you waste $40 to $50 on a bad hair cut (more than once), you would have been able to get a great cut from someone who truly knows and loves their craft (and, by extension, you!). So, treat yourself, or, rather, allow these stylists to treat you AND your hair to a great time.

I LOVE THIS PLACE! I needed a haircut asap so I called and they fit me in on a Friday afternoon with no appointment. They were so willing to accommodate me and make me feel at home. They are so professional, so fun, and my hair looks AMAZING! They offered to help me with styling it even after I left and helped me pick out what products I needed and didn't try to get me to buy what I truly didn't. The salon has the coolest vibe and so do the people. I'm a student at UGA and they totally cater to you as a person. As long as I'm in Athens I will be going to them for anything I need. To be honest I'd probably drive hours just to come back here I loved my experience so much! You definitely should go to them, you won't regret it!!!

Just had my first appointment here and I really would have appreciated being told to expect my haircut to cost $70 when they called to ask me if I could switch my requested appointment time to someone more experienced they recommended for my "hair type" based on my notes in my appointment request. My hair type is super fine and thin, like not a lot of hair at all, and I went for a very basic short style - nothing complicated. I almost died when I was given my total at the register, but I'm not the type to make a scene and I appreciate quality salons... But really upset about the price not being disclosed as a new client and being switched to a different stylist that charges the max.

I went here because i couldn't get an appointment with my regular stylists. They booked me with, Elyse. She seemed genuinely interested in getting my hair right. The trim she gave me was Okay, but I left with two different colors on my hair. She didn't event come close to matching my roots with the color red that I have on the rest of my hair. Purple red at the tops, orange red at the bottom. Now I have to find someone to correct the color. ugh.

At first I was hesitant because the salon is pricier, but after reading other reviews, I decided to try it. It was so worth it! I had my hair cut by S-Jay and for the first time in my life, I was happy with the amount of weight that was taken off of my hair. My hair is super thick and curly, but she did an excellent job! It was not only the best haircut of my life, but also the quickest. I will definitely get my hair cut here again.

Saw Michelle for my wedding hair and she was the BEST! First, the salon is a beautiful, airy space with plenty of sunlight - can't go wrong with that! Everyone was super nice and personable and then Michelle just did an amazing job! All I had to say was "Old Hollywood" and Michelle went about curling and pinning for three hours until my hair was perfecto! Great price, great experience, highly, highly recommended!

This is the best place to get your hair cut in Athens, hands down. I can't speak for everyone who works there, but if all of the hairstylists do as good of a job as Nathan does then this place can't be beat. 1. I never have a problem scheduling an appointment, and when appointment arrives he is ready to go! 2. He knows what he is doing! I can't say for certain, but I am fairly sure he schedules an hour slot to make sure you are taken care of 3. To top it off (if you didn't start with the shampoo), you finish with shampoo and massage, yes massage. I leave this place and should get pulled over for Driving too relaxed! Lastly, as if you can put a price on this experience...it is extremely reasonably priced. That's why it's important to tip! Located in Normal-town next to the Grit with plenty of parking!

I needed a new salon when I got a permanent job in Athens. I had heard awesome things about Model Citizen from people around town, so I made an appointment online. That was super easy and fast. They had great hours to work with my schedule. Everyone was super nice walking in and made me feel welcome. My stylist was John Presley for a cut and color. He was really knowledgeable about what I wanted and walked me through exactly what we were going to do for my color. I also made a pretty big change to my hair, cutting off a lot of length, and he handled it very well! Definitely am coming back and would recommend 100%!

I absolutely loved this place as soon as I walked through the door! There is such a cool atmosphere here and everyone is so nice. I previously had a rough experience with a former hair dresser at another salon so I met with Kasey for a consultation and she immediately made me feel so comfortable. She and I talked and she came up with a gameplan that was best for me and my hair. She worked around my schedule and even stayed late in order to do my hair. She is phenomenal! I'd recommend her in a heartbeat! If you're looking for a salon in the Athens area I would definitely suggest going here.

I have been going to Model Citizen ever since they opened and my mom has been seeing Elizabeth before she opened this salon. The staff is amazing and can fulfill any of your hair dreams, and they really know their stuff. I've had quite a few hair colors, including purple and rose gold, and they've all turned out beautifully!! I refuse to go anywhere else! I've lived in Athens my whole life and whenever my friends ask me where they can go for a great cut and color, I always recommend this place. Hands down the best hair salon in Athens!

Fun and funky, the salon atmosphere is bright and inviting, with eclectic background music that has tunes for young and experienced alike. I'm a fan of Nathan, but everyone here seems to be having fun making people beautiful. Parking can be challenging some days, but it's a short walk from Bottleworks so eat local and enjoy a constitutional to your appointment!

I needed a haircut for an update to a grown out pixie and called to schedule something same day. I was told they were full but put on a cancellation waiting list. Later that day, they called and informed me they could fit me in. Yay! Anyway, when I arrived, I met Kate, my stylist. She was attentive, friendly, and did a great job interpreting my vague requests for "shaping" my hair and wanting bangs and volume. I left with a GREAT haircut! I will definitely be back to see her! I've been to several other high end salons in Athens over the years and like those, this one felt hip, but without that exclusionary and "cold" feeling. I recommend it highly.

I drove from out of town to go here, hoping for a good experience (based on the reviews and photos), but left disappointed. I specifically called and made an appointment that would include time for a consultation, cut, and color. About two hours into it the girl proceeds to tell me she is double booked and now has to go back and forth between me and another client. On top of that I showed her photos of the things I liked and wanted blonde highlights added with pink as well. She put in highlights, then added a bright pink on my whole head, and when it was rinsed, the color was super bright on my roots only, which obviously looked bad. After all was said and done, I left with bright red hair and NO blonde highlights or pink. Unfortunately, I am sorry that I drove almost two hours to visit this salon. Update: The business did call to inquire about my problem and did invite me back to try to make the situation right.

So I was having a hair crisis AND in the middle of my fantasy football draft. I came to Model Citizen and got treated by Mary Rose. She was super accommodating of me having to use my phone to draft whilst getting my cut. She's very talented and was able to get my temp fade down. Mary Rose is the real deal, gifted, personable, and it didn't hurt that she's very easy on the eyes. Ha. The salon staff was very friendly and cool. The building looks really dope on the inside. Overall just good vibes and I will definitely be hitting them up when I need to get a fresh cut again.

Last time I saw her I got some peacock highlights in my hair and they loll amazing. I've gotten so many complements. The staff is are all wonderful, professional, and super friendly. Always offering water or coffee/tea when you arrive. Atmosphere is very different cool, modern and eclectic. If there is one "criticism" (for lack of a better term) is that it is sometimes hard to find a parking spot.

My balayage appointment yesterday was the second time I've been to this Salon, and I left so happy I'd chosen to invest in Jordan's talent. She was honest and up front about what my hair could safely do in one lightening session, and then outperformed both of our expectations with a gorgeous honey coloured balayage. I have my follow-up appointment already scheduled, but love this colour so much I just might keep it for longer!

I'm not normally one to review places, but I just had to leave one after my experience here! I went in the other day and I was a little nervous about getting 8 inches cut at first but Lisa was amazing! When I told her the style I wanted she really listened, asking me about my styling habits and general experience with shorter hair. She explained to me what she was doing and why she was doing it throughout the whole process, making sure I was comfortable with it, and gave me a ton of styling tips so I could maintain the look she was giving me. Everyone there was so welcoming and accommodating, and the whole salon looks amazing, with a unique and creative style you can only get in Athens! I can honestly say this was the best salon experience I've ever had and I would seriously recommend checking it out!

Lacey was amazing! I went in with a mess of faded red and copper hair, and I just wanted to go back to my normal hair color. She did a great job blending together all the different shades I had so I could go back to a chocolate brunette color. I've just had the most ridiculous experience. I'm so done with this salon. They have cancelled on me several times INCLUDING the appointment I had set for my WEDDING hair with almost no notice. They offered another stylist to do my hair for my wedding but wouldn't book me a consultation with the different stylist so I could see if she was any good. Then today I forgot about my appointment and called 40 minutes after it was set to reschedule and they wanted me to put deposit for my next visit! Now, I would understand if I was a habitual no-show but that's not the case. I no-showed ONE other time almost a year ago. They have cancelled on me 3 times and changed my stylist once without asking if it was ok with me. What a hypocritical policy. You have lost my business due to this. If you want stability, go to another salon.

The world needs hair like yours in it!" As long as they are around, I won't let another pair of scissors near my hair.

I was disappointed with the results, and the price of my second appointment was very questionable- she did it very quickly & hardly used any dye. I initially asked for a consultation so Kasey gave me some great pointers when I explained how I wanted my subtle balayge/sombre. I've had some horrible experiences before so I was a little nervous. But Kasey took great care of me. She explained each step along the way and was insanely patient with my very long hair. When she got done I couldn't believe it. Kasey is amazing! She did a tough corrective color on a faded vibrant red that was growing out into a copper orange. We weren't sure how it would turn out (I wanted a bright pink) but her intuition and talent was awesome and I ended up with exactly what I hoped for. Super friendly, but will also be honest about what might not work on you. I highly recommend her.
