I love West End. I always get my hair cut and colored by Tracie. She is fun, does a fantastic job, and makes the experience relaxing and enjoyable. I have super long hair, so I end up spending a lot of time in the chair. West End Salon has refreshments and their stylists always make sure you’re taken care of. I won’t go anywhere else. Highly recommend, worth every penny.

Alex is absolutely the best stylist I have ever found! I have terrible hair: it is thin, and fine, and curly but not uniformly curly. For years I tried to grow my hair out - always giving up when the stylist inevitably said, "You should just keep it short because it will look thicker". No, no, no. It just looked like short, thin hair. I discovered after I stopped coloring my hair that it is actually wavy / curly. Alex not only brought out the best in my hair through her skill; she taught me how to take care of my hair so it would stop breaking and grow long, as I wished. She's A GEM!

1) West End did not inform me of the prep I was supposed to do before my service 2) When it was obvious I hadn’t done that prep, the stylist didn’t offer me any chance to address the situation. 3) I expressed to the stylist three times I wasn’t comfortable with what she was doing, and she brushed me off each time. 4) The cut is five inches shorter than what we talked about, and has a terrible shape This was the worst salon experience I’ve ever had, and I absolutely HATE the cut the stylist gave me. It’s a good five inches shorter than we discussed, I can’t get it into a ponytail (something I told the stylist was a must,) and it is ABSOLUTELY a triangle, mushroom, flying saucer, etc. I was informed AFTER the stylist started cutting that I was supposed to come in with my hair washed and air dried, and since I hadn't, she just cut it in it's frizzy, flattened, creased state.

I regret choosing this salon. The stylist, which was theoretically the most expensive in the salon, seemed un-patient, busy and in a rush. I came in just for a refreshment of my existing hair style, while my hair color ended up being exactly what I told her I do not want! I do not fully dislike what she did, but I don’t love it. Importantly, I was more than happy with my previous hair style and feel very disappointed I lost it during this treatment because it took me years to achieve that look. Furthermore, I was not completely satisfied with the haircut, and tried very politely to explain why. I received a rude answer, in the lines of: look, you want me to cut it, or not, I can’t do anything else. With that attitude, I don’t want anyone cutting my hair. Even though she noticed I am not fully satisfied she didn’t gave me much option but to leave, and she run to another client. Paying 270$ and leaving disappointed and unhappy with the final result left me with a feeling they don’t care about the end result of their work or feedback of their clients. I left the saloon feeling completely stressed, which I think no one expects for that price! Next time, I will most certainly go to a place where I will feel taken care of.

I have the best hair stylist. His name is Josh. He is creative , keeps you current and he's cute, to boot. He is the best colorist I've had, and I've seen numerous over the years. Josh also cuts my husbands hair and it always looks good. The Salon is in a great part of downtown Boulder where you can shop or go for dinner after you get a fantastic cut and color by Josh.

I am reviewing a single stylist and the service. I am not one to write reviews, but I was extremely disappointed with the service and lack of care at this salon so I feel the need to voice my opinion. I was charged, no joke, $265 without tip for what was booked as an “ombré touch up”. Stylist rang it up as a “full balayage” plus a $65 5 minute trim. My hair is one solid auburny color when it was supposed to just have the blonde brightened. Stylist seemed rushed and irritated with the appointment. Will not be returning to this place or recommend it to anyone I know in Boulder. Huuuuuuuge bummer. Warning to all Boulderites. Take caution or go somewhere else.

I came to her with a nightmare haircut and color from another salon( think 90's Billy Ray Cyrus with horrible brassiness), and she completely transformed it while really listening and truly caring about what I really wanted. Really disappointed, feel completely ripped off. Let me first start of by saying I went in to fix a attempted ombre that was highlighted from roots and darker on bottom. I normally ombre my hair myself with great success but I have a special occasion and wanted to get it done by someone professionally. Anyway, the reccomended stylist was not familiar with ombre unknown to my knowledge and created a mess of highlights at the top of my head and darkened the bottom with some blonde left over. I went in off of reviews and Nine was my stylist. When i called to get an appointment the receptionist told me that a color fix was around 60 to 70 dollars. When I arrived I was treated very nicely and got helped almost immediately. I told Nine how upset I was with my hair, I wanted to get the white thick streaks off of my roots, tone it to an ashy color, and make the bottom more blonde again. Nine was VERY unfriendly in wanting to do what I wanted. She said she only had to darken the top, add one bayalage highlight and didn't need to lighten anything o the bottom because the other stylist "did all the work" already. This made me nervous because I do not see how the bottom of my hair would magically get lighter. I paid more money for a product (forget the name) that helps bond back the hair after lightening it specifically for this reason. I pretty much got totally upsold on this product because she refused to lighten my hair. I expressed my concern before, during, and after the blow-dry that I wanted the blonde highlight to start and my eye length and frame my face. She kept saying that we can do it after if I see it and if I still want to once it is styled and dried. Well I could tell immediately that it was to dark and said many times that I wanted to lighten by my face and she literally told me no and said she will not do it. I would have made sense if that area of my hair was recently bleached, but it wasn't. I was simply asking her multiple times to brighten area around my face with a few simple highlights to my brown hair. After this she also said that she was charging me 115 for the "ombre" when all she did was darken my roots and add one bayalage high light to the back of my head. Upsold me on buying a mix in for bleach to lighten the dark areas of my hair with some highlights and then refused to use it. The whole process only took one hour of time. I am just really disappointed and really upset. If I am paying $135 for an ombre that you want to charge me then I expect to get my moneys worth. Really upset, wish I had more costumer experience friendly situation that was warm and inviting and did not get completely ripped off. I do want to say that my hair looks better and has a very subtle highlight at bottom. If that was what I wanted I would be very happy with the result.

This is my second visit with Tracie. I am so happy to have found a salon and a hairstylist who can cut curly hair. They have DevaCurl products and a cool DevaCurl dryer that really cuts down on frizz. I would definitely recommend West End for curly hair!

Stephanie is so friendly and warm, and very easy to chat to (none of the "soooo where you going on holidays" inane chat that normally happens at the hair dressers). Discriminatory Against Ethnic Hair If you have thick, long, curly hair that is in any way different from the clientele they prefer to serve, they do not want you at this salon. DO NOT COME HERE if you are a mixed race person or an African American. THEY DO NOT WANT YOUR BUSINESS!!! I made an appointment at this salon for my 16 year old daughter to have her hair blow dried straight the night before getting on a plane to attend a national awards banquet. I dropped my daughter off at the salon and went looking for a parking space, and before I found one, I got a frantic call from my daughter telling me that the salon turned her away, telling her that they can’t do her hair in the time they allotted for a blow out. I asked her to put the hairstylist on the phone and asked what the issue was, and was told that they only schedule 30 minutes for a blow out, and it would take them 60 minutes to do my daughters hair, and also let me know that she would have to charge me double the price ($110) if we decided to come back in the future. To add insult to injury, Lucy Pew (the hairdresser) didn’t even offer to schedule her for that one hour, she simply said “I don’t have any other openings today.” When I asked if there was someone else in the salon who could do it, she let me know that she hadn’t even asked, but put me on hold so she could check (this is something they should have immediately done to try and rectify the problem, but instead they just shamed my daughter for her hair type and turned her away from the salon). She came back on the phone and said nobody could do it. Lucy offered no alternative options, but continually made excuses that it was the fault of the person who answered the phone and it was out of her control, even though she went on to explain that she’s an independent contractor at the salon (meaning she should be able to control her schedule and has the autonomy to have offered some sort of resolution). She should have taken on the burden of explaining to her later clients that she was delayed because of a scheduling issue, but instead cancelled my daughter’s appointment in favor of her next client. She said she’d mention the problem to management, but we never heard from the salon again. This was absolutely unacceptable. First off, a salon that only schedules enough time for a blow out for one hair type (simple, straight, basic hair types) is absolutely discriminatory and shows that they are not open to or interested in serving clients who have other hair types. The assumption that everyone who walks in their door has hair that can be styled in only 30 minutes is discriminatory; they should schedule enough time for all hair types, period! And if they say a blow out costs $55, it should cost $55, period! To charge someone double because of their hair type should be illegal. If they said they charge $55/half hour, and then asked everyone who called if they wanted to schedule a half hour appointment or an hour appointment, that would be different, but that is not what they do. The fact that the hairdresser, as an independent contractor, refused to delay her next client in order to honor her appointment with my daughter, or even to stay late in order to get it done for her, shows that she has zero interest in serving the African American/Mixed Race population, and really just wanted to turn away the business and blame it on the front desk. He lack of care for the predicament her salon put my daughter in was disgusting, and we will NEVER come back here. Thankfully we found a really nice woman who owns a salon around the corner called Salon Liquid, and when we explained what happened, she was disgusted and apologetic, and offered to stay after her salon closed, and fit my daughter in for her blow out at 10:30 at night, AND, she only charged her $35. It took her 45 minutes to blow dry and flat iron, and my daughter’s hair looked beautiful. God bless Joy at Salon Liquid and her top rate customer service. She has earned our business as well as our referrals.

If you want your hair done right the first time go see Nine Stevens! I have gone to Nine for over 2 years now and she is absolutely a delight to have my hair done by. I continue to drive all the way from Denver to see her because she is the only person I trust with my hair. I had my hair ruined by another hair dresser and Nine not only fixed it to make it beautiful again she also cares for the health of your hair and continuously works to making it healthier than ever before! Nine is amazing at EXTENSIONS! I have had almost every kind and none look as good as the tape in ones that Nine does! I would highly recommend her to anyone looking to get their hair done exactly the way they want it!

I have curly hair and if you do too you know how hard it is to find a stylist who knows how to cut and style it. At the West End Salon all the stylists are certified to cut curly hair with the Diva Cut. Janina, my favorite stylist, introduced it to me and the salon a few years ago and I am so thrilled with my curly locks I have not blow dried my hair in years! The cut takes a bit longer but the results are worth it. Janina takes her time and really looks at how your curls flow. The products used are also great. Not heavy or sticky and not pricey either. I highly recommend The West End Salon and Janina, as well everyone in the salon is friendly and helpful.
