I just wrapped up at the salon and I couldn't be happier. I initially left a negative review because of what I interpreted as a rude receptionist. Looking back, I imagine they were busy and the receptionist was under stress. I felt compelled to change the review because I am still in shock at how amazing my hair looks. I'm bi-racial so I have very curly, very thick hair. My hair is also super long - below my waist. Enter student stylist Leslie. She blew out my hair and then flat ironed it into a silky smooth masterpiece. I've literally paid hundreds of dollars for the same look at a salon in New York. I can't speak for the other stylist but if you want someone who really knows what they're doing, especially when it comes to ethnic hair, request Leslie. I will definitely be back.

Let me just say something ladies and gentlemen you choose to come to a hair school with students and you can not come with a Champagne taste on a Miller light budget. Bye

I was there yesterday for a retouch and my roots came out BLACK. My natural hair color is dark brown but I have caramel highlights. I went there to get my roots blended into the rest of my hair but I ended up having dark black on my roots instead of a lighter brown. Very disappointing!! Never going back there again.

Very happy with Nathan... the front desk staff was great and very friendly right from the beginning.. I want to say my experience was amazing, so much talent at this academy! I do want to share some information please arrive on time to you appt, regardless if it’s a school be courteous and treat it like any other appt.. just because the prices for services are all between $10-$50 DO NOT TIP 20% of that! I have worked in every type of service industry and it amazes how cheap people can be in this city... :( they do not make any commission off what we as customers pay for a service so imagine doing someone’s hair for free and it takes 1-3 hrs depending on what you get done and here people go and $2-3 tip ?????? It’s horrible and not okay in my opinion...It’s their time and to top it off their education isn’t cheap it’s expensive to attend most of these schools. So please remember and put yourself in the students shoes and TIP FAIRLY! You are already getting a deal let’s not take advantage of them and their time! That being said, remember it’s a SCHOOL people they are learning and regardless the more people like us get services done the more practice they get and with time they will get better and better at their craft! I am a happy client that encourages people to come in with a positive attiftude and come in with pictures of what you desire and communicate with your stylist/colorist so you both are on the same page, just remember be patient as they still are students and learning is a process! And we all had to learn to crawl before we walk!!!!

As opposed to what the "student" said hair I came to this place knowing I'm coming to a hair school. I've done many comp blow dries and cuts, almost all went really really well. The problem with this place is that their prices are not that cheap, and their attitude is like you've come to a high end salon and they're actually doing you a favor. So no, I came with a miller budget, expecting to taste a "miller" and came out with a taste of expired orange juice in my mouth. Never again. You can get free blow drys and cuts and you can also find descent priced stuff elsewhere

You literally get what you pay for. My hair ended up extremely damaged after they were done. They gave me a really ugly haircut. Although they rushed the haircut, it shouldn't have been this gross and choppy. I've bleached my hair before and the end result has never been this horrible (especially after about 4 inches have been cut off). Biggest regret of my life.

Paid $15 for a cut I normally spend $80 on. The student was sweet and friendly and hovering instructors were there to help her. The only drawback is that it took a long time, but that's expected. Also best deals on bedhead products I've found yet. Would recommend.

I went here to dye my hair Rose Gold. My hair was already blonde and the lady dying my hair saturated my hair in hair dye. We waited the usual 25 minutes and washed it out. It came out a lot more pink but it was nice. I have since washed it twice in cold water and sulfate free shampoo with color locking conditioner. My hair is now the exact blonde I started with and I'm out all my money. It's only been 4 days.

So I am a student here and since I don't feel like I can voice my concerns at school I guess this is the only way I can make my voice heard. Because I am sure she is sleeping with more than just this one instructor and everyone will have her back instead of listening to the truth!!! Now with that being said. I 100% BELIEVE that a student and teacher should never ever be allowed to go any further than of just that a student and teacher. Well I come on Google to tell it as it is. I know that Velita a student is in a relationship with an instructor Ben. So it is out and hopefully there will be and investigation because at this point she is being treated better than any other student. I feel there is an unjust in this whole situation. All you have to do is just ask her for her phone and the proof is there! She will most likely be at his house tonight! But there is no special treatment RIGHT!!!

We used the Tony & Guy Academy to do hair and make up for our daughter and her bridal party in March 2015. We could not have asked for more. The "trial run" for our daughter was breath-taking and the final for her and her bridal party was fantastic! Her wedding was on a Sunday, and they graciously opened the Academy to us on that day. Everyone looked lovely and had a great time. The price for the entire bridal party, mothers of bride and groom and two aunts was incredibly reasonable. I've had my own hair cut and styled here several times and always been pleased. Do allow yourself plenty of time as the instructors come to discuss things with the students several times throughout the entire process. It's worth it.

Worst place for hair cut, first they never mention appointment timing is from 10 to 4:30 only, and if you happen to make it to walk in, they'll say they arr full for today which in first place they don't take appointments on Thursdays and Saturdays.

Me and my wife wanted to do haircut and we called TONI&GUY to get an appointment and they said on Thursday and Friday it walk-in (no appointment days). It was Thursday, then went there on Fairfax Ave in Los Angeles to have our hair cut, once we got there, They said they don't have that many student right now but asked us to wait, after two minutes someone came and took my wife for hair job but I waited for an hour no one came to do my hair cut. meanwhile another costumer came for hair cut which surprisingly they did his hair cut immediately which was kind of rude!!! I know most of them are student but I think they need a better management for sure. never go back there again!

I’ve had my hair done there three times now, and every experience has been wonderful. I know they’re students so I’m always prepared for a lengthy stay. I remember when I was a nursing student things just take longer when you’re new and still learning. I got highlights and had my hair cut then straightened. I loved it! It was the first time I ever colored my hair. My stylist was Quiauna with an assist from Greg. Quiauna was very sweet and checked with me every step of the way. I know she is on her way to do great things. The second and third time she did my hair she crochet braided my hair and I decided that would be my style for a long time. My hair is growing and it feels good.

I'm in absolute shock. I had gotten a highlight, because I can no longer fly and go to my regular girl up in the bay area. I came for a blowdry mentioned it seemed a bit orange to me, one of the teachers she told me it wasn't, that I needed to except it because it was a student that they wouldn't fix it, it was not what she said it was her rude attitude and tone. Not to mention it was written that I could come back I wasn't satisfied. I was stunned and reacted, she sent another instructor, who I was very calm with and she reprimanded me for reacting to the first teacher when I was leaving. The girl that did the blowout was shocked as well, we were looking at each other in disbelief?? My haircolor wasn't that big of a detail but the way she reacted to me was. The blow dry was great, the girl who did it sweet and we had a good experience, told her I apologize getting upset ( explained what was going on) as I wasn't upset with her, gave her a big tip, thanked her, loved the blowout. I apologize to the instructor for my part( as I always do) and explained I had just gotten out of the hospital the day before, on Chemo (six hospitalizations since May 9) I've been currently diagnosed with a rare life-threatening blood disease and had four strokes since May 9 , caused by rare diagnosis and I'm young and was completely healthy before this. I called to schedule a blowout (due to the fact I can't lift my arm) because of the stroke, in the computer it said they refuse to service me??? This is going to be going farther than Yelp. This is the first time I've EVER posted a negative experience on yelp or anywhere else?

Very disappointed in my services here.I would not even give 1 star but have to to give a rating. I went here to get my hair highlighted,for one it took 7 hours to do, second it was done for a grade and she never finished my hair,she put highlights in my hair and it was getting late almost closing time and the teacher came by to look at it and even asked if she was bringing me back in which she said yes to. The blonde was NEVER toned I went home with very very brassy highlights, I was promised it would get finished and to come back in . I dont see how the teacher even gave her a grade for blonde highlights being brassy and not even able to see it cause hair was wet when I left. The girl there was my friend and I was told to contact her to set up a finish date .I texted and called multiple times for 4 months straight and was ignored. My hair was NEVER finished and those brassy highlights look worse now. I am going to have to pay to get it fixed because the school never cared to bring me back in and fix it without paying for a second service when it should of been covered as it was never completed. I should of NEVER went in and got it done because now I have to pay to get it fixed. My hair is long and was healthy before here ,like hardly dyed,barely use heat on it except for special occasions,use hair masks and everything but after going here my hair took a few months to get back somewhat healthy after the horrible dye job.. I dont know if I trust using toni and guy again not the school or the business.This place is by far the worst service I have ever got,the girl should not of got a passing grade when she messed my hair up so bad,never fixed it as promised and i left with very wet hair that day not even an attempt to dry it or brush it. Do NOT pay to get your hair done here as if they mess up or dont finish you will be told it will be covered without extra cost but when you call to come back in they say you have to pay now . Also make sure you have the full day to waste here because I was there for 7 hrs and left with,damaged hair, wet hair not even blow dried , and not even somewhat pretty . After spending the whole day here I had to go home and spend more time to dry it and style it. The teacher will pass a student even if your hair looks bad so wouldnt trust her to do my hair in town. I have never had such a bad service as I did here. Definitely wouldnt recommend this place to anyone,& when people ask for recommendations I still say do not use toni and guy academy they would have better service at cheap place like cost cutters or something which isnt a highly trustworthy place so says alot. I would trust a child doing my hair over this place because I would get about the same treatment, the long 7 hour time frame wasted,my hair ruined after done and definitely not finish what they promised. Never been so disappointed with a hair salon like I was here and I've had some mess ups with my hair before but the difference is other places have fixed it if it was wrong or messed up.If I had to go back in I wasnt charged for their mess up . And at least they finished my hair that day and brought me back in if messed up within a week or 2 at most . I would recommend if you dont care about your hair ,want it ruined and unfinished and want to waste money for a horrible job and also waste your whole day and them not fix it if messed up , then id suggest this place .

I had a gel manicure done in February by Kyong & it had been the best gel manicure I had ever had. I went in again to get a gel manicure & Mariapaz did a great job. I also got a deep scalp conditioning & style by Mariapaz & it turned out wonderful. She made sure I was good with the water temperature & that she wasn't hurting me when massaging my scalp. You have to remember going in, that this is a school. It's going to take more time. But, so worth it.

I am a guy with naturally crazy hair. If the student messes up slightly, the supervisor always has an easy fix. The view is amazing for the time you spend here, and the price is great. I feel like there is better communication here than at a regular salon. Try it at least once.

I wasn’t initially planning on going to the Toni&Guy academy to get my haircut but was out and about on Academy the other day and figured “what the heck”. I’m skeptical of hair schools and always preferred salons since students are the ones performing the hair duties (yes that’s right, STUDENTS, which you need to keep in mind, especially if you’re going to leave a critical review). I usually have high expectations going into a place but tempered them considering I was at a hair school, not a salon. Nevertheless, I was thoroughly impressed with the student who took care of me (can’t remember her name for the life of me). She did an amazing job with my hair and I was relaxed and comfortable the entire time. The instructors did a great job keeping an eye on her as well as the others but didn’t have to intervene whatsoever. No cowlicks or uneven parts were left and she gave me a perfect hard part. You might be thinking, “Sure, he’s only been there once though” and I understand that but I advised it to a couple of buddies as well and the outcome was the same success, even with different students. Perhaps that’s because they have a consistent theme there that was instilled from the teachers. Anyhow, I plan on future visits and recommend this hair school.

I recommend Shaelee Turner, she's great with dying hair and haircuts as well. This is a school, not a professional salon so don't complain about your hair when you've spent $15 on a haircut and it's not what you wanted. Just be clear on what you want and how you want it styled. Pictures are highly recommended. Other than that, it's a great school and prices are reasonable. BOOK WITH SHAELEE!!! :)

This place screams UNPROFESSIONAL from all over the place. First, a wait time of 20+ minutes Ask for some water - they bring me a dirty glass that smells like hot chocolate. Then finally THEY SAID ONE PRICE OVER THE PHONE BUT WHEN YOU GET THERE THEY DONT OWN UP TO IT. Yes, they did try to upsell which is fine. But even when I ask for the basic service which I described over the phone they wouldn't honor the price and came up with a bunch of excuses like the receptionist is not a professional hairdresser and they shouldn't have even given me a price. Also my hair is medium length (shoulder) but I wanted to charge me for long hair. FINALLY THEY MAKE YOU SIGN A WAIVER SAYING THEY CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO YOUR HAIR AND HAVE ZERO RESPONSIBILITY. No thanks

Environment? Amazing. Atmosphere? Palpable excitement. My hair cut? Way more fun than I knew a simple hair cut could be. Seriously, this place was beautiful. All the rooms are separated by glass so even as I got my hair cut I could see various groups of students gathered around their teachers as they created artwork from hair. It was inspiring! I'm not a hair stylist, but the experience made me want to just hang out to see what new thing they'd teach next! Got my hair cut and styled by a student named Gilbert. He was patient, offered a ton of advice and at my request he walked me through his various cutting techniques. (I was just curious) Awesome place. You're greeted warmly when you walk in, treated like royalty and walk out with a great hair cut and some money left in your wallet. I'll be getting my hair cut here everytime I visit LA.

If you care for your hair, please avoid this place at any cost!!! I spent 6!!!! Hours there to get highlights, which at the end came out to be just half hair died in an ugly color, and now I'm paying hundreds of dollars to get it fixed at other places. My hair lookes terrible, feels terrible, and I'm afraid I'll have to cut it because if how badly they burned it. Please save yourself from a similar experience.

Horrible experience. Cut way more then needed. I have bangs all the way around my head hair is uneven. Layers only at the bottom. Nothing like what I wanted. I now cry everyday dealing with this haircut. Please go somewhere else.

Completely dissatisfied. I was told in advance that it will take 3 to 4 hours to get my hair done. It took 5 hours to get my hair done. Stylist said what I wanted wasn't on her notes, but I told the receptionist what I wanted. I asked for ombre and blonde highlights because that is what I usually get. I already had dyed blonde hair and told the stylist I wanted it lighter. Instead i got brunette hair with dark highlights much darker hair then what I came in as. Stylist didn't get the color right. She even admitted it was wrong and it was because the toner was left too long on my hair. Her supervisor said to wait for a week and it'll fade and if it doesn't she'll take care of it. Then they took pics of me for their portfolio. When i was walking to my car i didnt realize it, but my roots werent completely touched up! Anyways I gave them the benefit of the doubt and waited two weeks instead of the one. My hair actually got even darker! I attempted to call numerous times and no one ever picks up the phone. Finally get a hold of someone and they wanted me to pay again to fix someone else's mistake. I wasted 5 hours paid full price, $17 to park my car and followed their instructions and yet they don't fix their error. If someone bought a tv or internet service and it didn't work from day 1 would they charge that client for something the company did wrong ? The stylist supervisor said she'll fix it without any additional charge. Called to make another appointment and would not help me in any way. What a dishonest company! I get it students do the hair, my problem is the customer service and not keeping your word.

Didn't like my cut at all. Wanted my hair short on the sides with a machine, the student kept trimming with scissors and went much too high. I'm going to a barber and get what I want and how I want there instead.

My experience at Toni&Guy was awful! It started with that the booked me with a student stylist when I specifically asked to get a salon ready student. At the shampoo station the student spilled water down my back and in my face, and had a problem how to place the towels. The cut wasn't what I asked for, they did the layers but didn't take of the 3 inches of the length I asked for. And the worst part was the blow out, the student janked my hair so much using a technique I've never seen any stylist use before, the hair got stuck and she kept going even if it obviously didn't work with my hair and she pulled my hair way to hard (the stylist obvisly noticed it was to hard since she said sorry every time). And last the instructor did not check the hair cut when it was finished... The stylist was very sweet and polite however NOT ready to cut costumes hair. The haircut was only $18 but for that uncomfortable experience it was WAY overpriced. I'm not going back there again...

Lataya was great! I loved how she did my hair. I will say this and it's not her fault but I made this appointment a month ago and no one told me I had to bring my own make up, the last time I went I didn't bring my make up bc the girl did mine with the stuff there so ladies bring your own make up. I was lucky a fellow student found some make up and my lataya did my make up really nice. I hope when I come again I will request her.
