I was visiting Az and was in need of a color touch up. After much research and evaluation of reviews I decided to trust ROOT. Believe me when i say I was nervous as I do not trust my hair to anyone As it turned out I have Never had a more pleasant experience . From the minute I walked in I felt comfortable and special. My stylist Meghan was Knowledgeable and professional .. my biggest surprise was how much I loved the color And how healthy my hair felt after and since my treatment ...I have been coloring my hair for years and just figured dry brittle and hair loss was normal after processing...NONE of that happened after my treatment at roots—- I usually need to color every 3 weeks I am into my 4th week and only now Do I need a touch up...unfortunately I am 1500 miles away. Wish I could fly back for a touch up

I went there with my 13 year old daughter. Ana did my daughters hair which turned out beautiful. I had my hair done by Shane.AWESOME JOB!!! I WILL continue ta take the drive from Anthem 2 your salon as long as he is working there. He has a great personality, easy ta talk 2, down ta earth person and gifted hands. I found this place online and every aspect of it was better than expected. I thought that my project might be a bit difficult for them. I had not been to a professional in years and my cut was bad. It was a mess. However my color/toning and cut project was no problem at all for Emily and she was awesome and funny. Great Experience, will be back!

I had hair color recently at this salon and it was the worst experience for me ever. I clearly asked for titanium blonde and the guy working on my hair has no idea of how to achieve it.. He bleached my hair thrice and applied hair color without using the toner and it made my hair mix of colors. I have it completely shaved of because of him... Zero rating. But they did reach out to me and gave me full refund.

Shana just colored and cut my hair today. This was my first visit. I was greeted with an offer of a beverage and reading material while I waited. Very nice staff. Shana had the perfect recommendations for warming up my blonde a bit with toner. It turned out exactly how I wanted it! She also did just enough of a twist on my hair cut to modernize it a bit. I love it! The best compliment I can give is from my husband. He doesn't always recognize my hair updates, and when I got home he said he really liked the hair cut AND color, and that it was the best cut I've had in awhile! Shana, I will definitely make the long drive back down to see you! Thanks!

I temporarily relocated to the area. In the past I have found it difficult to find a stylist who gets me and listens to what I say. I met with Marla for a consultation and then returned to her a few weeks later for a cut and color. She was extremely professional, knowledgable and I was able to chat with her like I had been going to her for years. I cannot say enough good things about her and her talent! She was able to provide me with exactly what I wanted. If I am ever back in this area, I will definitely be returning! I must also mention how friendly everyone in the salon was. It seems like everyone is happy to be part of that team.

Beautiful salon, wonderful Staff, fabulous products and services. It's in a cute area of crown plaza in a cool neighborhood. Stylists were very knowledgeable and do amazing work. Cannot recommend this place enough! Although I was never very impressed with my previous stylist, I was nervous to let anyone else touch my hair. Well, after he made a mistake, I went to Root Salon to get help! I looked at the stylist work and decided to see Shana. I could tell right off the bat she knew what she was doing and I instantly trusted her! While I was at the sink, getting my color corrected, she was providing education to another staff there on coloring techniques. Not only further evidence that she knows what she doing, but I loved seeing the fellowship and sharing.

What a solid experience. My stylists weren't juggling 3 people at once. They made it about me. I felt heard, understood, and taken care of. I cannot say enough about this place.....do yourself a favor....go let them make you feel important. Other salons should be taking notes on The Root Salon!

Once, I forgot credit card,after my appointment I called immediately with the correct card from home. the young girl receptionist was unsure what to do but it was handled I presumed. I was disappointed to be asked to hold a n/c Appt w a cc. Sorry but business is business but it's a PEOPLE business. I can't fault the real entrepreneur, owner who grew this business. I can only the owner's "money handler", (not financial manager,strictly a bottom line, non customer service guy), but that handler could have just been focusing on the bottom line. Whatever the case may be, the guest service just went down the toilet. Also, high turnover with staff. Unfortunately, business Unfortunately impersonal "business is business " attitude sucks for Guest Service.

I have curly hair and came here after looking for a place with great reviews and someone who specialized in curly hair. I traveled over 30 minutes just because of the reviews and because of what the website says about the stylists' experience with curly hair. I was experiencing what curly haired people call "triangle hair." I also wanted to get some color in my hair to give it some dimension. When I left, I was so unhappy with my haircut AND color. I showed the stylist a picture of how I wanted my hair to look and when I left it looked nothing like the picture. I showed her a picture that had an ombré style to it... everywhere I go I get told they look like highlights and they do. I have also been told that the color is too yellow for my skin by another hairstylist. Not only that, but the cut was not what I wanted either. My hair was straightened so I couldn't really see the shape my hair had. When I got home and styled it with my natural curl, I still looked like I had triangle head. It seemed like she barely even cut it. I thought to myself, maybe I just need to get used to it... well, it's been over 2 months...and I still hate my hair.

The employees are friendly and the salon is clean. I went here to get a pixi cut and dye my hair blue. My cut looked just as good as I thought it would. They also donate the hair that falls to animal shelters so they can make dog beds.

There's a reason this place gets a lot of good reviews. They earned them! I stopped by to "scope" the place out and inquire about what they could do with my hair. I was spoken to with care, not hype. No one tried to sell me on services or products. Made an appointment with Brittany for the next day. To start, I'm lady of a "certain age" which means that my hormones (or lack of them) have not been kind to my hair. Arizona water did the rest. I have been subjecting my hair to bad cheap haircuts at bargain places and it showed. I needed a deep cut, conditioning, and re-vamping. Brittany spent lots of time getting to know me and my problems before she touched my hair with a scissors. She gave me the best deep conditioning I have ever had. I could actually feel the silkiness return to my hair even at that stage. We agreed on how much needed to be cut and felt that a color correction needed to wait until my hair was healthier and a style was settled on. She had me check her progress with a mirror at every stage to make sure I was happy with what she was doing. Who does that? Someone who cares about their work, that's who. The end result was a total transformation. My hair actually moved! It was so fried prior to this that it was just stiff. When I came home my husband said that the difference between my bargain cuts and this one was that she sculpted the hair to my face, rather than just cut it. In addition to Brittany being amazing, the staff was friendly, accommodating, and helpful. Thank you Root Salon and thank you big time to Brittany.

YMMV depending on your stylist obviously, I followed Shana here when she moved from Dolce to the Root. She certainly seems happier, which translates to the overall experience. I dig the vibe. My rating probably is more indicative of Shana than The Root.

This place is fantastic! Open setting with great natural lighting so your stylist can really get your color right. Located in central Phoenix, you can get here in about 30 minutes or less from most parts of the valley. I really recommend trying them out, you won't be sorry! Just returned from my second visit--still very happy with the atmosphere--friendly and welcoming--and especially with Meggan. She is highly skilled, friendly and an incredibly good listener! This is a high-end salon but so very worth it. That said, I spent $45 less here at The Root Salon than my local salon. I consider it both money well spent and saved! Meggan at The Root Salon in Phoenix is hands down the best stylist to touch my hair since leaving the Midwest 3 years ago.

Megan has been coloring and cutting my hair for over a year. Megan is very talented with color. Also, her cuts look great the first day and grow out really well. And talking with her is like talking with an old friend. She is authentic and kind. The price of a color and cut is not cheap, but in this case you get what you pay for and then some.

I called to set up my wife an appointment to get her hair colored and cut. We are from out of town, and we were searching for a good place. The Root Salon has lots of great reviews, so we decided to give it a shot. They were extremely nice when I called and scheduled her in on the date and time we requested. She had her appointment with Shane and he was absolutely amazing. He was extremely accommodating and did an amazing job on her hair. We will definitely be coming here from now on!!

Firstly, the salon is beautiful. It's in an interesting sector of Phoenix, plays great music, has remarkable ambiance, and is quirky in a bright and fun way. I scheduled a same day haircut with a particular stylist. When I came in, a stylist at the register told me I had been moved over to another stylist named Mariah. I was kind of upset and irritated that they would switch me around when I had specifically requested someone as a first timer at this salon, BUT OMG. I AM SO GLAD THEY DID. I literally told Mariah to make my hair look like a "Free People" ad and she delivered. I have had such a hard time finding a stylist in Phoenix that really listens to me. Mariah was calm, gave an amazing scalp massage, textured my hair, and made me feel really good about myself. Everything a stylist should be - all while being professional. I will be going to her from now on. The universe wasn't playing today when it gave me a different person. PRAISES. Thank you so much, Mariah!!!

I am a 41 year old guy and wanted to get my hair colored. I decided "anything but conservative" but my girlfriend told me to stick with whatever the stylist recommends. I met with Katie, told her I wanted something in "candy apple red" and told her I trusted her. At first she was hesitant so she started looking at conservative colors (brown, auburn - and I said nothing) but finally Katie went bold. Katie picked a bold, dark red color that looked light bright hot pink cotton candy. After it dried the color turned this beautiful dark red. It came out amazing! My girlfriend said it contrasts with my blue eyes perfectly and said she might go see Katie herself. Several friends have said it looks great. Thanks Katie!

I came here on a whim while on my trip down to AZ. I decided to take a huge risk and go to an unfamiliar salon to cut off at least 10 inches of hair. I came in on a Sunday right when they opened, and they managed to fit me in! Mel, the assistant, was super friendly and easy to talk to as she led me back to wash my hair. Since I was a walk-in, I did wait a little while but it was so worth it! They specialize in "dry styling" which means they cut your hair after blow drying it completely. This means more precision and a realistic picture of your haircut. The stylist, Chelsea, listened to what I wanted and I even showed her a photo of what I wanted. She was very precise and wanted to make sure the length was right since it was a short bob. Overall, I had an amazing experience here! I'll have to check out their SF location to see if it's comparable!

The Root Salon is incredible!! It is immaculate and inviting. The owner Nancy Hart, front desk personnel, assistants and my stylist McKenna are professional and personable. McKenna knows her craft inside and out. She aks the right questions and listens. She offers color and cut solutions that look and work best for you and your life style. I constantly have people complimenting me on my hair and asking for my stylist information. A first is recieveing a hand written personal thank you letter in the mail from Mckenna. Thanking me for my service and how was I loving my hair. Yes, McKenna I am loving my hair!! Trust me you can't go wrong with this salon and McKenna you are the best!!

i am just not sure how anyone could give less than 5 stars cause i was treated so nicely and just the entire place is filled with happy people that work there who are just so great and sweet which is awesome but what's even better is how skilled these people are. they really did an amazing job and i went here cause of the ratings and i hope everyone goes here cause they really are the best. people working there absolutely are the best. thank you for having such kind people working there it really was such a great experience. and it's so open and lots of daylight coming into the building makes a great atmosphere.

I met with Mckenna to take my level 8 ombre down to a rich, chocolate brown color. I am obsessed with doing my own hair research, especially when I decide to get it done professionally, and Mckenna was very educated about the tint back process! She understood that even though my ends were lighter, she needed to fill in the color first with the pigments that were taken out from lightening (gold tones, orange, red) and then go over it with the actual chocolate brown color. I showed her my inspiration picture, and from that, she knew exactly what I wanted! A rich, dark brown tone that was NEUTRAL. Some people who want to go to a chocolate brown show pictures with red undertones, and from one picture Mckenna knew exactly what I wanted! I am also very impressed because although she was balancing multiple clients at once, she managed her time very well, and she still made me feel important and took time with the process. I liked that she was very confident in what she was doing, but still took the time to check on the color throughout the process. I can't rave enough about Mckenna (since I've had several bad experiences at other salons), but I also appreciated the fact that she took the time to discuss and book a follow-up appointment with me! Some stylists just pass you off to the receptionist afterwards and don't have these conversations, but because she knows I want to keep my hair healthy and beautiful for my wedding in October, she made a point to schedule out with me. Oh, AND I also loved that she took the time to educate one of the apprentices (I think) of the tint back process when doing my hair. Again, it showed her confidence but also her passion to educate and share knowledge with her colleagues. Go see Mckenna!

I have a hard time with my curly hair and hate the whole experience because I'm always disappointed. I badly needed a trim and poured over reviews and websites for weeks, finally decided on this place, and made a appointment with Desiree. It's been well over 10 years since I've been happy enough with a haircut to want to come back to the same stylist a second time. My hair is super fine, and very curly. It finally has a great shape and volume without being pouffy and a healthy bounce to it. I was even comfortable enough with her skills to ask her to go shorter than I had initially asked her to go and I couldn't be happier with the results. Desiree, you've done good girl!

Let me just start off with saying that Emily and Hope are the best!! I walked into that salon with a very bad at home bleached hair and damaged super curly hair. Before finding this salon I was just at that point of debating on going bald. I can’t tell you how happy I am that I found these two lovely women to help me through my troubled hair! It turned out better than I could have ever imagined it from what I started with when walking into that salon. My advice if you have curly hair this is the place for you and these two are the ones you need to ask for. Ask for color from Hope and a cut from Emily. I couldn’t be happier with how it turned out! I went in for just a tiny trip and a blow out, when I got in they greeted me just fine and the front desk was very welcoming. An older lady called me up and sat me down on her chair, she asked me what I wanted. So I told her take about half a inch off all over. She kept on insisting taking more off and I kept telling her only half and inch. She turned me around showed me the back of my head and said it looks bad and the ends are dead. I told her I know I just want a half inch off and a blow out. She took her sheers out and randomly without even asking cut a Chunk of my hair off. I was in shock and upset I didn’t know what to say. After she tells me to touch it, I touched it and said yeah the dead ends are off but you took more then I asked for. She finally agrees on half inch and took me to the shampo bowl, she scratch the hell out of my scalp and left me with conditioner in my hair for at least 10 minutes. She came back, rinse my hair off and asked me again are you sure about only half inch because I don’t want to charge you twice if it’s not. I told her just do the blow out and forget about the trim. The back of my shirt was all wet and my face was soaked! I asked for a blow out and that woman just dry my hair with her hands and a blow dryer. First of all she made me felt bad about myself and kept on pointing out my hair looked horrible and she didn’t listen to one thing I said. I am a hairstylist myself and I WOULD NEVER TREAT ANY OF MY CLIENTS THE WAY SHE TREATED ME! I would never go back to this place and I’m upset my friend recommended this place. It might be good for others but it was horrible for me.

First, Meg is really the best and the sweetest. I wasn't too sure what I wanted to do with my hair, but she listened to my rambling and gave me the most beautiful haircut/color. She paid attention to the fact that I'm a college student with limited time and I appreciate the low amount of maintenance my new hairstyle requires. I have never walked out of a salon so happy with the result, it gave me a total boost in confidence that I needed. All of the other staff was very kind and accommodating and the salon itself is immaculate and beautiful. I will definitely be recommending The Root Salon to everyone from now on.

I can honestly say Mariah did not listen to a word I said about what I wanted done. I even showed her a picture of the exact color & highlights I wanted. I asked for a dark brown and it came out a medium brown which I called her out on but she told me it was the darkest brown they had. Bull***t. The highlights I asked for? Not done. The girl is a joke to be honest. She should be working at a supercuts not a professional salon. Zero stars for her talent & listening skills.

Thank God I found a go to place and person for my hair! Moved from another state...here we go on the quest of finding a stylist/colorist! Read the reviews online and chose Lizet. Lizet is my girl! Besides knowing her stuff she is really nice. Went in for a cut and I have curly hair. Lizet cut my hair and I let her blow it straight for a fun and different look. It looked great. I wore the style for 4 days because it looked so good. After shampooing and going back to curls I realize the cut needed way more layering for my curls. So do I go back and complain (hate to do) or do I go somewhere else. I look on the Internet for other options but ultimately decide to suck it up and call to see if it was possible to get an adjustment on the cut without paying for another cut. The policy is within 2 weeks. I also needed highlights. Lizet did a great job on both! The salon is very clean and very professionally operated. Everyone is really nice. Lizet served me wine and even my fiancé was offered a beer while I processed. (My car was being serviced that day) We had good conversation while we sipped our beverages. He used a provided IPad as Lizet finished my hair. He said he enjoyed it! What? I couldn't be happier with the whole experience! Thank you lovely Lizet!!

Owner is mean, rude, and was yelling horribly at a staff member outside. Very unprofessional, I'd quit. 9/28/18 Update...nice try with your response Cruella, but I wasn't referring to my daughter being yelled at...you were screaming at some poor girl out back about what an idiot she was over how she had washed the towels and how she was attempting to dry them, and she was in tears...and my understanding was my one free haircut was allowed per your salon's policy for relatives.....now go ahead and claim your account has been hacked or that I'm a fake, as you've done on previous negative reviews....bad form "boss lady"

Sooo expensive! $70 for a hair cut is crazy. It wasnt a great cut to boot. No texturing, just basic, cant do much with it. Wont be going back.

Moved to Phoenix and searched for a hair salon. Found The root salon on Google. I absolutely love this place. It's about 30 min drive for me. Friendly staff and warm atmosphere my stylist is also extremely friendly and helpful
