My experience training with Zach Zyzyk for three months has been AWESOME! Throughout these few months he has taken great care to tailor workouts to my needs. He is easy going, friendly and his personality creates a relaxed and comfortable atmosphere. He makes each workout fresh, challenging, creative and most importantly FUN! His positive attitude keeps you motivated even when you're not, Zach is a great trainer but an even better person. I highly recommend him to anyone at any fitness level!

Great Club. Hidden gem right behind the new Costco. The club is huge and well managed. Staff is professional and courteous. Top notch personal trainers, spa, and they have new equipment as well. They have included day care, and are open late. I don't play tennis - but they do have quite a few inside tennis courts.

Great environment!

Great gym! Excellent customer service and always clean! Any time I go work out, I don't have to wait for an elliptical, treadmill or bike as there are many and it's not too busy. The weight machines are usually free too, and if you have to wait, there's something else you can use in the meantime. I get great massages in their spa and have found their personal trainers to be very helpful as well.

Three months ago we joined MTVAC and we are so happy to be part of this community! Jaime and his staff goes above and beyond for their members. They are truly dedicated and knowledgeable. It was very soon after we found out what a gem this place is. The facility is inviting, humble and clean, and members are friendly. Whether training or playing tennis, we get to drop off our son to the most caring and genuine staff members. We tried to tip a babysitter one day and she refused to take it. Basically, this shows their commitment to values and high standards. Some of the best tennis pros anywhere on the midatlantic region can be found here and as someone who's taken many lessons here and elsewhere, they're worth every penny if you're serious about your game. In addition, they have classes for new or seasoned players. Currently, we are taking Fit 2 Hit and highly recommend it. I never particularly enjoyed exercising, but Lauren makes strength training fun. She really listened to our goals and drives us to achieve them. She focuses on a customizing exercises for our needs and easily adjusts to address any problem areas members may bring up. We are most impressed by how knowledgeable she is about the underlying science and theory of the exercises she puts in our workouts. She always pushes us to do more than we would do ourselves. Chris is a truly gifted teacher. He is diligent and enthusiastic. He teaches finesse and consistency. He is a pro that's going to give you a combination of technical instruction and repetition/practice. He loves tennis and loves what he does, and that shows in the effort he puts into his lessons. He'll feed you excellent balls that are fine tuned to the pace and style that you need to get that repetition you need to steadily improve your game in an efficient manner. He's like a unstoppable ball machine that's constantly adjusting to your needs/skill, and offers technical instruction. It doesn't get better than Chris...trust me. He gives his all and we rely on his constructive feedback to improve our tennis game. We will warn you, he is so observant, he sees everything, so don't you dare take any short cuts because he will make you start all over. In such a short amount of time, our experience here has been so positive. We also enjoy attending their free stroke of the week classes taught by talented pros. DB and Jeremy will identify your weaknesses and give you quality instructions. Patrick coordinates a must attend social on Friday evenings, where you meet and play other friendly tennis players. He goes above and beyond to make sure you have a good time and play good competitive matches. Overall, this club deserves all the credit in the world. They did not tell us when we joined that we would have experienced and supportive team of top certified trainers. They also hold fitness classes at all hours to accommodate your schedule. Last Friday, I brought a friend to the club and they insisted on generously waiving the guest fee. Customer service doesn't get better than this! My expectations are to just to be greeted upon entering, but you happily offer me free benefits like massages for working out or attending a free dietician seminar...really? I love MTVAC, you keep my family fit and happy!

Love this club. The staff are very friendly and helpful, the trainers are great. There is a lot of equipment, and it's in good working order. I don't play tennis, but the courts look nice. The club is never too crowded, you can always park and there's no wait for machines. The club also offers massage and nutritional coaching options. I'm in my second year of membership and would definitely recommend MtVac.

Beware trying to cancel your membership!!! i moved out of the area and kept a low cost membership for awhile in hopes of visiting occasionally. When i realized that that wasn't practical i decided to cancel my membership. i called the office and spoke to several people and they said they were canceling my membership. They assured me that this was happening. Well guess what!! That didn't happen. Four months later I was getting club emails. I checked my bank statement and realized they were still billing me! I called, complained and got no apology, no refund, and just a policy document. They din't even try to work with me - just said, 'too bad'.. The club clearly takes no responsibility for the actions of their staff. What a rip off!!!

It’s Sunday, the door says 6am, google says 6am. It’s 705am currently, and the doors aren’t open. No special sign stating “oh, we’re not opening at our publicly posted hours today.” No lights on, nothing. This is the third time this has happened. The front desk staff is mostly teenagers, and I’m guessing whoever is supposed to open didn’t feel like rolling out of bed this morning. Why continue to pay for this?

I have had a membership for nearly a year, but I had a rough pregnancy and didn't get to work out like I wanted. I recently started back. I really like this gym. I have to drive 30 mins to get there and 30 to get home, but the price for what you get is exceptional. When I originally moved here I looked into Gold's, but some of their policies were ridiculous and the price was way too expensive for what you get. I would've paid over $100/month because childcare is $12/kid per day and in then fine print an infant counts as two. The manager didn't even know the fine print stated that. At Mt Vernon I get childcare, access to a dietician if I want it, they have personal trainers, classes, a massage therapist, and a military discount. All of that for $35/ month. It's worth the drive. The staff are nice and professional. The building is well kept and clean. It feels cozy. The gym is never packed. They have a decent amount of equipment. I love this place. They go out of their way for their members. I highly recommend Mt. Vernon Athletic Club.

I am not a member of the club but I buy massage packs here. The reason is because Tyra McKinzie, the area's most gifted massage therapist, is here. This is not a spa, but you will get a professional sports massage at a fair price. Tyra manages to find all the little places that are bothering you without you ever pointing them out. I weight train, ride a road bike and practice yoga. I find Tyra an essential part of my health regime. She is amazing! I have had many massages from professionals and from friends in massage school. Tyra is the real deal.

The Mount Vernon Athletic Association can't be beat. The staff is friendly and helpful, there is equipment for everyone and it is always available, and the trainers are great. The cost and location are also great.

I was surprised by the square footage of the property, its plenty comfortable and all put to good use. Its busy, but I'm always able to use the equipment I come in to use. One unique feature is their Fitness on Demand class. You and others can walk into the studio for group classes and select from a menu of pre-recorded workouts and simply press 'play'. A large screen comes down and the class begins. The video and workouts are high quality and have the Les Mills endorsement just to give you an idea. So to sum up, I'd recommend the place because 1) plenty of equipment 2) lots of space (1 studio for group classes, another for simply doing workouts that need lots of space) 3) good ambience and technology 4) good staff

Houston... we have a problem! First off, the members and front desk folks are AWESOME! Only reason they got a single star. This club is fine if you don't actually want to play tennis. We joined almost a year ago and it has been ridiculously hard to get court time during normal hours. If you don't work for a living, you will be fine. You might get to play on Friday night when they have social if you sign up early enough. But to get a court time in the evening (before 10:00pm) or on the weekend, you have a better chance of hitting the lotto. We kept thinking it would get better. We even tried complaining to front desk and management. We told them we were going to leave and join another club. It was that important to us! Here's the kicker... after we told management (Dimitris) about our concerns and that we wanted to leave, we didn't even get a phone call!! He just sent an email telling us that we signed a one year agreement and we would have to pay. He did not even mention the lack of court time problem. His concern... make sure you pay me the rest of my money. Thats all I needed to hear. He will get his measly few dollars for the next 3 months because unlike him, I honor my commitments. Steer clear of this place until he is replaced or his boss reminds him of what it means to manage and take care of your customers. If you actually WANT to play tennis. Join at your own risk!

I have been a member now for a couple of months and I am so glad I picked this gym! The treadmills with TVs and headphone jacks are awesome. The yoga class was comfortable and invigorating. The variety of video classes offered is larger than any collection out there. I cannot wait to meet with a personal trainer and take a nutrition class to meet the requirements for a free onsite massage. Great Perk! Eventually, I would like to see a regular TRX class.

My experience with Nosa Evbuomwan, my personal trainer, has been excellent! I began working with him in August 2013. I had been diagnosed with MS (Multiple Sclerosis) earlier that year and had been working with another trainer who moved away. Nosa seemed like the right person to work with as he has experience working with other folks like me who have chronic illnesses that impact their movement and strength, like Parkinson's Disease. Nosa understands how to help me with issues such as balance while also continuing to improve my strength. He pushes me to work hard while always being ready to modify routines when needed. He encourages me to try things that I never thought I could do and always celebrates my successes with me. Recently I was able to complete a 5K Walk for MS due to my regular workouts at MTVAC with Nosa. He helped me prepare for the walk by including new exercises and suggesting what I could do in between our sessions. He is dedicated to his job and works well with a variety of clients, with just the right mix of pushing and encouraging while always being watchful for signs of stress and pain. Thanks, Nosa, for all you do with me and all your clients!

This gym is located just behind Costco, off Route 1, right smack dab in the middle of a trailer park. Parking is usually available at the front, but there is overflow parking in the back. It's a small gym, but an excellent tennis center, which are the majority of their patrons. They have three full sized indoor tennis courts, great tennis pros, and very friendly staff. If you want to learn to play tennis or check out some nice indoor courts, this is the place for you. I would not recommend this location as a gym, however. It is not their primary focus, and it shows. Their gym equipment is serviceable, but it's a small area and frankly feels like an afterthought. There are no windows, so it feels more like a warehouse. Because it's not popular as a gym the equipment is always available. There's one large multipurpose room where they have a few classes a week, included in the price (the tennis stuff is extra). There is childcare included in the price; the childcare room is small and windowless but there is a video camera that you can access from the exercise machines to look in on your little person. Unfortunately, the television is always on, and there's not much in the way of interaction - it's just a place to park your child while you work out. The ladies' locker room has two rather nice showers and a dry sauna. There is towel service and provided shampoo and body wash. My two problems with this gym - the place has zero windows, so you feel like you're working out in a basement or someone's garage. Also, the childcare room is small and windowless, the television is the primary source of entertainment, and there's not much incentive on the part of the workers to interact with the children. MAC is the cheapest option for a gym with childcare in the area, so if that's a priority for you it's a place to consider. I would not choose it for a gym otherwise - there are just too many other cheaper gyms with fancier equipment and, well, windows. But as a tennis center it excels!

I miss this place! It’s a gem and I wish we could have taken it with us when we moved. Clean, up to date, never crowded in my experience. The classes are geared toward older people, which is fine. There are lots of video workout options when classes aren’t in session as well.
