Best gym I have ever been a member at! It is impeccably clean, very spacious and it is huge. Amenities; Basketball courts, racquetball, 3 pools, jacuzzi, kids area, trx section, snack bar, common area, rotating rock wall, sauna, showers, lockers, and a lot of parking!

I used to be a member of American Family Fitness, until I relocated out of Virginia. The Brook Road, VA Center Commons location offers a wide variety of cardio machines, tread mills, bikes, and free weights. My favorite parts of this location are/were the hot tub, the pool, the sit-down row pull machine in the rear of the facility near the family changing rooms, and the assisted dip cardio machine at the front of the gymnasium. Some other members can be a bit brash at times, despite me never making first contact. The members are courteous, friendly, and helpful on the gym floor, never had to deal with any solicitation of personal training or etc. I enjoy the prize giveaways and annual events they have to offer such as Bingo, Board Games, Raffles, Contests, Tournaments, and more. The other pros to Am Fam is that they’re open 24/7 on weekdays Monday through Thursday and their gyms have a great layout to provide plenty of space. It never feels that cramped. The cons to Am Fam are that they cost a lot of money per month as a member $70/month without a contract, if you sign a 3 year contract, then your monthly payments are $44/month. Their locations are pretty sparse, being that they’re only in Virginia. I’m a member at LA Fitness now because they have a vast majority of gyms spaced throughout The USA and they only charge $20/month. I love Am Fam and hope it can survive at Virginia Center Commons. I’m not sure what may happen to The Mall in the upcoming years. Hopefully we can find an investor or something out of the box to get it re-vamped.

I like the variety of offerings for individuals regardless of fitness level. The North Richmond location at Virginia Center Commons is my preferred location. I find the staff friendly and enjoy the company of others who workout there on a regular basis. One of the things I can honestly state about the VCC location is there is an emphasis on FAMILY. There is a true sense of WELCOME at the location.

I’ve rated this place before and the rating disappeared. Strange. Anyway, a lot of the patrons don’t clean the machines after themselves which is disgusting. The equipment is often dirty because of this and it isn’t cleaned thoroughly by the staff. They have a lot of great equipment, but I’m very disappointed in the decline sit up benches and back extension apparatuses that they have. The sit up benches are made so that you can literally only do sit ups on them. The bench itself is too short to turn around and do any alternative exercises. Also they wobble a lot. Life fitness makes full length decline benches, and If you want to increase the difficulty you can just place a couple of stairs beneath. The back extensions have ankle pads that are tiny for some reason, and the overall sizing and height don’t allow for a good range of motion if you’re trying to do anything besides a back extension. Life fitness also makes a sturdier one with versatility. There are also quite a few machines with worn out upholstery, and spin bikes with worn out foot straps. I’m giving 2 stars because the front desk staff is very friendly. I expect more from this facility.

No towels or wash cloths for the morning workout crew who uses the facility to get ready before work. For two consecutive days the towels and wash cloths were not ready upon entering the gym at 6 am. This was a major problem being I was only in town for a week and needed to use the facility to get ready before work after a workout. The last day in town being no towels or wash cloths were ready I was advised to go to Walmart and buy a towel and wash cloth. Preparation is the key to success, you can do something great 99 times but it's the one major inconvenience that people will never forget. With that being said this facility cannot meets my needs and I WILL NO LONGER USE THIS GYM WHEN IM IN TOWN FOR WORK.

I have really enjoyed the classes, and the gym is very nice with more than I could expect. It has exceeded my expectations. I have also been especially impressed with the employees at the kid zone. They have been excellent with understanding my child’s needs and responding appropriately. I can tell he is well taken care of, and I trust that he is in good care and can really focus on my workouts.

I love the fact that the facility is open 24 hours a day most of the week. I am generally at work 10-12 hours a day being able to still go before work is great. I agree with others regarding the necessity for towels. I hate that I have to leave 2 wet towels in my car for 12+ hours a day. Other that that the facility and staff are great.

I’ve been a member for 28 years and have rehabbed two knees and one shoulder, all full replacements. Facility has strength and cardio equipment for all ages and fitness levels. Personal training, swim instruction, and diet and nutrition services are available, plus exceptional health bar. Exercise, aquatic and locker areas are exceptionally clean and ample. Staff are friendly and helpful. I cannot think of anything to improve.

The clubs are clean with modern equipment that is well maintained. The staff is always friendly. I like that there is a cafe on site and I also love the structured activities that Monique and Trae provide for the kids in KidZone. Furthermore, a large part of the reason we joined American Family Fitness was because of the karate that is included.

It was very nice to see American Family Fitness move in to Virginia Center Commons mall after the Dillards closed here. Huge space, and they use the area very well. AFF has great starter plans that our daughter took advantage of when first joining, and she likes AFF very much (though she no longer lives in this area). Nice staff. Excellent plans. Great location.

Well I loved this gym but found that because I was forced to cancel a previous contract due to needing to move away and I was supposed to pay some moving fee of a $100 four years ago my current contract is now terminated without any prior knowledge. I would have never known if I had not called to make a payment for my current membership. I was just at the gym on Saturday, and have been going regularly for the last month and a half and no one said anything. So I guess if you ever have to move they will not be happy with you. It wasn't even asked if I wanted to add the balance due to my new account so I could have a clear balance and keep coming to gym. I am so upset.

I've been a member of AmFam for about 1 year now and i can't really complain. This location is always clean. Doesn't smell like a musty dirty gym, unlike some of the other locations that i have been to. The staff is polite, they don't always look that approachable as they tend to hang with the regulars, but if you have a question they will answer and help you as much as they can. Overall I enjoy coming to this gym, doesn't get as crowded as the others that are around. It is smaller, but i think that's what i like about it the most!

Used to love this gym. Was very military friendly and would find a way to help those of us who are active duty find a good gym to use when we were away from our duty station. The membership director I spoke with today pretty much told me I was wrong and that there was no deal ever offered to military (which I in fact utilized last year). So, she pretty much told me I lied and there was nothing she could do for me, and hung up. Won't be recommending this gym in the future.

Love the hot yoga studio and especially all of Nani's classes!! I wish there was a later hot yoga class with candle light (electric) that focuses on meditation and a soft yoga flow, like they have at a lot of other hot yoga studios In the area. Also great and new-like equipment throughout the gym for training days. Great variety of machines to target every area. Very glad we heard about this gym prior to buying memberships at multiple costly studios!

Two part review. The facility reached out to me immediately but when I arrived at the agreed time to take a tour and talk about membership, it seemed my presence was an inconvenience. The representative quickly went through the prices of membership (3 minutes) then they were done. No tour of the facility; discussion of classes offered; or wellness program offerings. Glad the website gives you this information otherwise you will never receive it from the staff. The second part of my review, the facility based on my self tour not sure if I saw all the facility. It is clean, not too crowded. Wish they had more equipment like rope and tires to maximize my workout.

I've enjoyed using the facilities here. The pool is a nice extra amenity as well as the classes though I don't really use them. I wish they had a track for running....treadmills are terrible on my joints. So often I go to the Short Pump location for that. O just wish I didn't have to drive all the way out there.

The Management at this location are very unprofessional which results in a clouded environment for member who are visiting to reach goals. I personal do not expect to hear negative feedback given to associates while I'm being help. April should really brush up on professional conduct in the work place as well as her attire. Considering the environment she should be dressed in such a way to appeal to both WOMEN and men who attend this location. This is not the club. The best help i've received are from the people who no longer work at this location. I will be visiting other American Family locations before I decide if I would like to cancel my membership.

Wow! I truly enjoyed my Yoga Master Hal. I have traveled many places and met many people but Hal is the type of instructor that you wish you could hire permanently on your payroll as a personal trainer forever. As we approach a significant event in history with our first landing on the moon it’s also important to note the other piece of history. I don’t want to write a book but as a drop in from CH were I have been a member for 2 decades I have watched a young man who I admire dearly teach. He is great and strong, but he never leaves his throne. Likewise, his followers in the last 2 decades probably have gained all the weight I’ve lost. My point is I had an amazing time and If I had the capital I would grab Hal because he has a gift!
