I would not sign up for yearly until you have tried this place a while. The sales people will be very accomodating to get you to sign up for the year don't do it!!!! Try it first I wish I had. The cross training classes they offer cost extra and are not up to par with what I have experienced elsewhere.. The equipment too I found dirty, cheap or out of date. Its a corporate run membership so there is no getting out of it. Much better options for gyms in the area!! Try others!!

DISHONEST, SHADY BILLING PRACTICES. BE WARNED!!! Had spinal injury due to an accident. Provided them the needed medical records to freeze my membership which went in to effect. With no prior notice the gym changed their billing company. The new billing company does not honor the freezing of the membership and continues to charge my card while I am still in physical therapy and receiving cotizone injections. BE FOREWARNED OF THEIR FINANCIAL PRACTICES!!!

Everybody is complaining about the customer service and I'm over here just wondering why it matters in a gym. You show up, you exercise, you leave. I signed up for a monthly membership at a reasonable price, the guy told me what I needed to do to cancel my membership if I ever left. I also see comments about lack of a military discount and I also don't see the point in that. I'm former Navy, every base has a free gym that's available to service members if you feel like lack of a 10-15% discount off your membership is not worth it.

It's a standard gym. People are nice. Clean. Variety of equipment. I dislike glitzy gyms because money is going into flare instead of maintaining equipment. I haven't seen equipment broken down here.

Stephen Wyatt

Increasing fees and decreasing cleanliness and service, the gym went down consistently throughout my 5+ years as a member!

Krysta Martinez

I wouldn't even give this place one star. My membership has been canceled since September and they continue to charge me. I cannot get anyone to respond to me! DO NOT GO HERE!!!!

Bryan Korte

I use this gym only out of convenience and in spite of the absolutely atrocious customer service. They would be better served to create a keyless entry for customers and eliminate the front desk staff entirely.

Amy Zinicola

The staff at first are very helpful and nice however do not be fooled. This a buisness and they do not care about you or the community. All they are focused on is money. They give nothing back to the community, the members, or their families. If you want to be treated as a person and not just a monthly pay check this is NOT the gym for you.

Have been sitting here waiting on a Sunday for the gym to open at 7. It’s now almost 7:30 and still nobody here. Probably the easiest thing to do in a business is to be open when you say you’re gonna be open. If the hours have changed, then make sure they’re updated everywhere.

Arielle Schilling

Disappointing. The gym is nice enough, but they only care about getting their money. I moved to a new state and still had to pay for the next month even though my contract from 2010 said you could cancel at any time if you were moving. Not to mention they raised prices 20% in the time I was there without notice and without my consent. What's worse is they said they never make an exception on the 30 day notice when my BF cancelled and didn't have to pay the next month and then they lied about it on the phone. Worse than a corporate gym. At least when you call out a corp company they do something about it.

Caleb Jordan

Average gym. Staff are nice and friendly. High price for what you get. Looks like they are trying to turn things around for the better. Only issue is that $50+ a month is steep if all you want to do is squats and pull-ups. Average gym prices are $20-30. They include some yoga and group classes in that membership but offer nothing cheaper for those that want weights and no classes. Something is usually wrong in the men’s restroom unfortunately (paper towel dispenser broken so rolls just sitting on the counter).

Miss my eco fitness :( The entire culture in the gym changed. Classes aren’t as good, equipment is out of order and the whole place is filthy!

Shannon o'hagan

5 years ago, I was rating this gym 5 stars consistently. Unfortunately, that is not the case anymore. Equipment is always “out of order.” The same treadmills have been broke for months. (5 out of 12 in one row). The place is filthy. Management is rude. I’ve personally witnessed this for months. The entire environment has changed in the gym. With so many other options close by, I’d encourage anyone new to the area to explore those. They are much less expensive, include childcare and staff knowledgeable, experienced trainers. If you are looking for a friendly, clean, safe place to workout where the cardio equipment consistently works, Pivotal is NOT the place.

Jessica Volbeda

Fair shouldn't even be included in this raiting, they are terrible! The gym in Mt. P, looks nice but it is small. There is not enough parking nor equipment if you are there during prime time hours. I also had a billing problem and even after proving that they overcharged me and saying they would refund it, I was still charged the full month after I cancelled and never refunded a single cent! The worst part of this expereince though was cancelling when I told the guy that I shouldn't have to pay the extra month to cancel since I cancelled on the 16th of the previous month, after not even acknowleding me for a full 10 minutes I told him that I could just reverse the payment, he told me they would sue me for a million dollars, what a moron!

Ed Cott

I am not sure if the negative posters are talking about the same gym that I go to. I have only been a member for 3 months so cant speak to what the equipment or staff was like 1-3 years ago as many of the negative posts were dated. The cycles are all BRAND new, i.e, less than a month old. The equipment and weights are in great shape. There are free classes of various types throughout the day. I don't do much yoga anymore but did do one there as a guest a year or so ago and had no complaints whatsoever. Regarding complaints about the staff, everyone I have interacted with has been friendly and helpful. The trainers who work there don't hesitate to help out and offer tips when you ask them. My suggestion to the people who posted about unfriendly or "arrogant" staff is to stop looking at yourself in the mirror long enough to say hello or "good morning" or whatever and see if things improve.

This review is for Mt. Pleasant only, I've never been to the W. Ash one. If you're shopping around it's worth a look, but keep shopping. The woman who signed me up was very kind, but I haven't seen her since the month I joined. I haven't had any interaction with any other employees other than an occasional hello or goodbye from a select few at the front desk. I dont even know the managers names. I dont use child care here because its pricey, so I can't speak on it. I also dont take classes (extra $10 each). I've heard redzone is great ($30 extra). My biggest complaint is one that is repeated throughout recent reviews: its dirty and not well maintained. What sparked this lengthy review was the 'last straw' of the womens bathroom sign. WTH?? A month or so ago the sign read closed from 2:30-3, well I wasnt changing so I went in to put my bag away. There was a man sitting on the couch and appeared to be fixing a soap dispenser. He told me they were closing the bathroom daily for repairs. Okay, great. But EVERY DAY??? I'm no gym manager, but wouldn't it be possible to do ALL repairs in a day or two AFTER hours? And why say "cleaning" when there was clearly no cleaning going on. Hmmm... The restroom they suggest ALL the women use is a unisex bathroom by Redzone. One bathroom, it was beyond filthy the only time I used it, no place to set your things other than the dirty floor, so if women are expected to change in there they should have excellent balance. What's wrong with the female cleaners I've seen? They shouldn't need to completely close a restroom, especially for an HOUR! This morning (I'm writing this on the stairmaster) I get here at 5:30am and notice the sign now says closed from 2-3pm for cleaning!! One whole hour women are expected to NOT use the facilities, can't put their belongings away, change out of workcl othes, shower, etc. We are literally paying to NOT use what we're paying for. All pics I attach (if allowed) are from 5:30am on a Monday. You would think a gym that closes early on Sunday and probably hasn't seen more than a member or two would be sparkling. Right? Definitely wrong. Trash all over two counters. Sinks have not been cleaned. Hair ties on shower floors. Again, 5:30am. I have to shower here before work and I usually grab paper towels to grab chunks of hair and to set my stuff on the little ledge. Yuck. The repairs that were supposedly being done are worth it right? One sink hasn't had a handle in months. Apparently ALL soap dispensers are broken because there's bottles of soap at sinks. One shower has had an out of order sign since I joined 5 months ago. Paper towels are consistently out in restroom and throughout the gym. I've never been in the mensroom but I hear it's way worse. No shower curtains. Broken showers, theres an actual futon in there! Sanitary?? Gross. It's not all bad! The functional area is spacious enough. Most members rerack their weights so it's usually tidy. And I mean, it's a gym, not a spa. Gets the job done. Its lightyears better than O2 (all locations, even Ginormpus Park West). With Crunch opening today and Golds coming soon, there are (better?) options.

One of the most expensive guest memberships I have ever experienced for a very average gym. The girl at the desk was rude and did not offer military discounts. I would never recommend this gym to anyone in the Charleston or Mt pleasant area. Terrible experience.

Chris Steidinger

They charge more but they have every thing, every body is nice, its clean and spacious

I used Eco while living in Charleston the facilities were nice but the customer service is awful. I cancelled my membership with 30 days notice and the appropriate paperwork when I got my orders to move. They continued to charge me for the next 3 months, it wasn't until I changed my mailing address and they were no longer able to charge my card did they contact me. I informed them I had cancelled months ago and they stated the charges would be reversed in 90 days, this has yet to happen. Every time I call the staff is rude and passes me around and states they will give my info to the general manager who has never contacted me.

Emily Anne Souther

The gym overall is pretty darn good and I love that they open at 4am! But, they have an app they use for updates, key cards, classes and so on. Today (Easter) I went to the gym around 655 knowing that they open at 7am. Other cars began to pull up and we all sat and waited...and stared...looked around and then one member checked the facebook page and there it was posted that they were closed. If you have an app for notifications why not send out notification that the gym will be closed? Also, there were no signs in the gym stating the gym would be closed for Easter. I understand being closed for a holiday but not everyone is on Facebook or friends with pivotal on FB. Use your app so that your members aren't stuck sitting in your parking lot waiting for absolutely nothing.

Definitely over priced. I like it here. I did sign up for a second year. The biggest flaw is the fact that they do not enforce re-racking your weights. It drives me crazy seeing weights all over the place. Members need to start holding other members accountable if the staff won’t do it

Christina Orso

Alexa Gray

Pretty pricey and when you go to buy your membership (as I did) they spring a $99 enrollment fee on you that they don't tell you about. Nice gym but should be more upfront.

Christopher St Paul

A pleasing gym, in my opinion. I visited Pivotal Fitness lately, on a three-day pass while shopping around for a gym in the Charleston area, and my experience was fully positive. The attendant was friendly and professional, and I found the gym clean and comfortable (as well as huge - rooms and rooms, with plenty of space to do your thing). The equipment was equally impressive, with about any machine and free weight and cardio apparatus imaginable, and all other manner of training gear. The men's locker room, too, was roomy and well maintained. Really, the only thing they didn't have (that I wanted, anyway) was a sauna of some fashion; and, of course, this was just personal preference. All in all, I had no problems here, and though I'm still undecided on where to join, Pivotal remains a candidate. Big thanks to everybody at this gym. Keep up the good work :D

Mark DePietro

In town for work and i was familiar with the old Eco gym that used to be there so I went to work out. EXPENSIVE!!! I travel for work all the time and I've never had anyone charge me so much. $20 a day. $10 bucks is typical. Then if I'm here for any length of time and I get a month to month it's $64 a month. When I told the young lady that I might need to look somewhere else she said "yes, you should". But paid and for my workout in. Won't return.

Good layout and good energy. Hopefully the new owners invest a little in the equipment and building.

Remy Watts

The gym at Mt. Pleasant is better than the downtown gym, but the yoga studio downtown is superior to the Mt. Pleasant studio. The teachers in the Mt. Pleasant studio are quite exclusive and will make you feel unwelcome in their class. The only reason I gave this gym a one is because of the downtown Blue Turtle--- I loved all of the teachers! However, when I went to cancel my membership because I was moving, they informed me that I was too late to cancel for the upcoming payment period (even though I thought I was three days early). Since I started my membership on the ninth of the month, I had to cancel it before the ninth to prevent being charged. I was told that if I canceled before the 15th that I'd be fine. I'm quite upset that I'm wasting $50 on a gym that isn't even eco friendly!! SOMEONE TELL ME WHAT THEY DO FOR THE ENVIRONMENT (where are the recycle bins, at least??)

Katie Grinnan

This gym treats you like they're selling you a car - they do not have a set rate for memberships. Some people are paying $800 for a full access package for the year while others are paying $350 for the exact same package. I have 3 different friends who go here and all of them have the same membership at different prices. Of course the pretty girl pays almost $500 less than my two guy friends. Also, they will tell you you're getting a deal by getting $$ knocked off the total, then hound you to sign up with them. Do yourself a favor and join Crunch Fitness where the prices are fairly listed on the website.

Justin Hopson

Member since 2007 and in MTP - Eco is the only show in town. The owners continue to make improvements so I'll continue to pay the price...

Katherine Sluder

Horrible customer service experience. They don't tell you that you need to cancel membership after contract is over. You have to go in to location to cancel and they will not refund excess charges. Stay away.

Rachel Walls

As someone unfamiliar and slightly intimidated by fitness, I went to this gym looking for an inexpensive way to get fitness classes and a welcoming environment. The man who greeted me at the door asked a lot of questions that, as a non-fitness guru I struggled to answer. I found it slightly invasive. He showed me the many offerings of the gym, boasting about their low prices and bewailing the few offerings of Planet Fitness. He tried really hard to have me sign up immediately, but each class was going to be an additional $10 per month to the $40 (sometimes $60) per month rate. The gym is too expensive for someone (me) who is looking for a decent elliptical and yoga class. He did, however, offer me 30 days free. I eagerly went in for a yoga class, but the instructor never showed. I heard excellent things about Pivotal’s West Ashley location, but this one was a disappointment. I am taking my business elsewhere.

Gerald Tanenbaum

I gave this business a one because I did not know how to give it a zero, In the summer of 2018 they offered me a special price of $500 for ten training sessions. I was spending the summer in New York and told the person who was trying to sell me that package that I was having a problem with my back and legs and I did not think I could make use of the training sessions. He told me to buy it since it was such a good deal, and if I could not use it I could get my money back. I could not use it. Sending a letter to them, sending an email to them, telephoning them and visiting them did no good. I had to take them to court. The Magistrate ruled in favor of me and I finally got my money. If you use this gym you deserve anything that happens to you.

Bradley O'Mara

Great gym with amazing trainers

Daniel O'Connor

They charge the most money in Mt Pleasant, yet their gym is the dirtiest. They don't clean the equipment or repair worn equipment. They rarely re-stock the paper towels or hand sanitizer. Then you go to cancel and they of course make it difficult to do so.

Simon Schuster

This is clearly the best gym in Mt Pleasant; it's not even close. It could be a tad bigger, but that's a small complaint. The gear is great, and that's what matters. Can't believe the tripe about arrogant staff and "service to the community" or whatever. Are you there to work out, or make a social comment? I could give a frock about that; just make sure the gear is stocked and working well and I'll do the rest.

Mila Rad

Nice staff but the moldiest carpet and flooring ever in the women's locker area. Ironically unhealthy.

Louise Mc Cullough

The staff are all lovely and really helpful but the gym is so unclean, its very worrying as in such an environment it is imperitive to keep everything sanitized to prevent the spread of bacteria and fungus.. The floors and mats are full of dust and balls of fluff and hair everywhere. Prity gross

Gina Johnson

I'm giving this Pivotal Fitness location a 1 star because of the customer service. I am never greeted by the staff when I come in for my workout and never do I hear 'have a good day" on my way out. In fact when I do come in, I say "hi" to the women working the front desk and I get a sense that I am bothering them for saying hello. This genuinely upsets me because I think the location of the gym and the equipment provided is great. I also think there are many great exercise classes available. However, the people working the front desk are the face of Pivotal. They see everyone who enters and exits the gym. Please make my daily visit something I look forward to opposed to something I dread. I have a bad taste in my mouth every time I enter AND leave the gym. I hope this gets better because it is something simple to "fix" and would make a world of difference to every patron who comes to the gym.

Spiro Telegadis

Gym is great for someone who is right downtown or doesn't live close enough to MUSC. Their pricing is only 5 less then MUSC and the quality of the gym is just ok downtown and slightly better in MT Pleasant. They continued to charge me past the membership cancelation and I had to send them a copy of my contract in order for me to get a credit. Thank God I keep good records and F#@% them for taking that type of tactic.

Troy C

This location is very spacious! This is a gym, not a trendy pop up gym. Plenty of weights and equipment.

Charles McLendon

Your new website is really poor, very hard to pull up schedules, and not intuitive at all. Should go back to prior version or get someone to work on it.

matt allen

**WARNING**ABSOLUTE NIGHTMARE. This place is fine until you try and cancel your membership and that's when their shady business practices kick-in. My wife had to cancel her membership THREE times yet they still kept charging our credit card. Literally every person she spoke with blamed someone who wasn't there and we never received a returned phone call until I left nasty reviews everywhere. That's what it took to receive our refund and that's really unfortunate. They've also asked me to remove my reviews. I've removed the names, but the review stays.
