Awesome gym! Great people and all the equipment

I’ve been coming here since I moved to Charleston and have been unsatisfied. I tried most of the classes and none were really to my style. The yoga class was “just a yoga class” when I asked what type of style, I.e. vinyasa the front desk didn’t even know what I was asking. The personal training was too expensive in my opinion on top of the monthly membership so I didn’t try that. The staff turnover at this particular location is incredibly high, often leaving a very unknoedgeable staff at the front desk. On the weekends there are often no clean towels. I have been going to a Pilates and yoga studio downtown that’s a comparable cost to the monthly membership here and get much more out of the experience. The only thing I was still coming to O2 for was the cardio area. They used to have one channel that was more geared to a female audience but recently changed it to yet another sports channel. When I asked them to change it the woman in charge said she’d try then did nothing. So all 13 tvs are sports or news. Not a huge deal I know but after every other experience it was the only thing I was still coming here for. Lastly, when I went to cancel they just put me behind the counter on a computer and told me to fill out a form and didn’t know if I’d be charged for next month or not. To sum: Just another corporate gym that doesn’t cater to the individuals working out here and not worth the monthly membership.

The staff are very welcoming - actually greet you with eye contact, a smile and a few words. The only thing keeping me from giving 5 stars is there aren’t enough 5:30/6 am classes for me. I love this place.

Gym equipment is in top condition, sauna is great, locker room is spacious, I go here over other O2 locations, even though they are solid too.

Everyone has been extremely friendly and helpful from the moment I walked into O2 on James Island. Every day, I’m greeted with a warm smile and motivated by the most incredible trainers. I’ve never been so inspired to be the most fit version of myself, and honestly, have always struggled with holding myself accountable. This is the first time, I actually want to workout and constantly push myself to achieve my goals!

Just moved here less than a year ago. Joined 02 Fitness and signed up for some personal training just to get started on a good foot. I’ve continued with my personal training because I have the best trainer I’ve ever worked out with - Lou Tirado. He is knowledgeable and motivating with a great personality - making my workouts fun, yet so challenging! He customizes my workouts with lots of variety - keeping my interest every week. Overall, the gym is good. Lou makes it great

They are very up to date and the equipment is nice and so are the employees - best JI has to offer for a gym ... don’t go to stink up Golds

I love being a member here, it's always clean, has more than enough equipment, and everyone is nice. I do, however have one gripe which keeps it from being five stars; the towel service is spotty. I know it seems like I'm splitting hairs here (and again, I love being a member) but for the price point, which makes 02 a "luxury" gym I would hope they could always have towels, and more often than not in my experience there are none. It seems like such an easy fix and I'm sure they'll work towards fixing it.

While the facility is new and very nice, it is still crazy to me that they want $50 a month for a membership. Yes, I get that it's new...but when you look at it on paper it doesn't have anything special that makes it any different from any other gym in this area (besides the new factor). The sales pitches thrown at you promise the exact same thing as any other gym. This particular location actually lacks in size and, when compared to golds on JI, doesn't have some of the same things (i.e. Ladies room, cardio cinema, space, space, and space). While they claim that their prices are competitive, after calling other gyms and doing some research, they are actually on average $15-20 higher than other gyms. Again, if this gym offered something special that I could not find anywhere else then maybe I could consider $50 a month. But, as of now, o2 james island is just another gym with the same equipment as the rest.

Very responsive at all levels. Appreciate quick reply and remedy by on site staff and management. ****** More often than not we are without paper towel or cleaner to wipe down equipment before or after use. Location is heading for Gold’s status. Lack of maintenance and general attentiveness with half a dozen employees in the morning. We shouldn’t be the ones pointing this out.

I’m giving this place 2 stars because of sales tactics I’m assuming are taught. I have been a member for a few years now and really like the new gym however I do not like feeling like someone is using a sales technique that has been taught to them on how to get the customer to pay more by adding bs fees. My daughter is a swimmer and also runs track. She has a few weeks where she’s in limbo and asked if she could start going to the gym with me. I told her I would find out what there policy is and see if she could come with me for the next few weeks. I called on the phone first and explained what I was trying to do. I was told on the phone that my best option would be to add her to my membership and it was only $30 more a month. That sounded reasonable so I told her to try the gym out with me and if she liked it, I would sign her up. I went in with her and asked the question again what the cost would be to add her and then maybe transfer it to my wife if she wanted to continue. AGAIN I was told it was only $30 a month. My daughter tried the gym out and liked it so I decided to sign her up. When we came in, I told the guy upfront that I wanted to add her to my membership and asked again if it was $30 and wanted to make sure nothing would change on mine. I told him I would come back after our workout and sign the form that needed to be signed. When I was done with the workout I noticed on my IPhone a $40 charge had already been added to my account. I went to sign the form and was asked to initial a few spots. I’m over 45 and didn’t have my reading glasses so I asked if he could tell me what I was initialing since I couldn’t read it. He very nicely explained that one was saying I had to pay the monthly fee even if she wasn’t going. I completely understand that. The one that bothered me was paying a $25 procession fee AND a annual $49 fee. I said I was a little unhappy with that because not one out of the three times did anyone ever say it’s $30 a month plus another annual fee and another processing fee. It really isn’t the amount because that’s not that big of a deal. It’s the “it’s only another this and only another that” sales tactics I don’t like being pushed on me. I’m going to the gym not buying a used car. Just be honest with everyone up front and include all the “mandatory” fees. If it was only one time, I would have just excused it as being something overlooked but when it was never mentioned all three times........hmmm

They care more about your money than your health. I signed up to do month-to-month personal training and was suffering from splitting migraines during my first few sessions (and mind you I've never suffered from headaches in my life). It got so bad that I had to stop one of my sessions after only 5 minutes. After this happened a handful of times, my trainer and I agreed I needed to see a doctor to rule out anything serious. I was scheduled for two MRIs as ordered from my doctor. At this point, I was about a week out from being charged for my second month. Since I wanted to figure out the medical stuff before paying for another month, I came in to freeze my account and was told by two staff (Heather and Chris) that since it was medical, I would be exempt from the 30-day notice requirement and not be charged and that all I had to do was e-mail proof of my MRI orders to Brittany, who runs the personal training. I followed all instructions and even included in my email to Brittany that if there was ANYTHING else needed, to please let me know. Well I never heard back from her, got charged $456 a week later, and had to come in two separate times asking to speak with her before Brittany finally emailed me back, claiming she was "sorry I was given incorrect information". Had she responded to my initial email, when I asked if there was anything else she needed, I could have gone the very next day and gotten a doctor's note and would never have been charged. They refuse to refund my money even though they waited until after I was charged to explain what else I needed to provide. So now I'm out $456 while still paying off a $1,300 MRI bill. Most unprofessional experience I've ever had with a gym.

Overpriced. Requires a month notice to terminate membership, 50 dollar activation. Pivotal Fitness' 18 month membership is half the price of their 12 month membership.
