I own a condo in NMB. I normally go to the YMCA in MB when I'm down here, as I'm a member at the Y at home, but I thought I would check it out since it is closer to my condo. I went in with my 3 kids and asked how much it would be to work out 3 days and have the childcare. They said my cheapest option would be to buy a month membership and add the 2 kids for $80-something. . .for 3 days of working out!!! That is absolutely insane. I only pay $65 for my membership at home in a major city and have access to 13 plus facilities. I turned around and went to the YMCA and paid $15 for the 3 days, including child care. The treadmill at the Y let me do the same thing as their treadmill would have and my children like their childcare. This place is a complete rip off.

The Aquatic and fitness Center is a great place to work out. many different classes are offered to keep one interested and the staff is friendly and knowledgeable. The fitness room has a variety of machines and the therapy pool sessions are inspiring. A wonderful place.

I'm a travel nurse and I've been all around the country. I bought two day passes to check this place out and both times, I've never dealt with more rude staff before in my life! Never have I ever been treated more poorly by fitness staff. I would advice you to take your business at one of the many other gyms in the area!

My son is gearing up for football season with trainer Mark who is so knowledgeable and offers terrific youth training with years of experience, a great vibe, and martial arts training mixed in!

Awesome awesome aquatics center. The staff from front desk to the gentleman who cleans the place are all very nice and exhibit excellent customer service. The gym personnel including their interns go out of their way to help you with machinery, learning a new position, encouraging you to reach beyond your norm etc. The class facilitators are knowledgeable and make each class fun, challenging, and a great work out for you. Their equipment is well-mannered and when something breaks, it's not down for long. They have two raquet ball courts, a walking path above the gym, basket ball court, Olympic swimming g pool for lane swimming, separate pool for classes, a steam sauna, hot tub, a water slide that opens during special times, a nursery for kiddos and excellent changing facilities. Outstanding prices for what you get too. Go for the day, the month or the year.

When I started with this organization I could hardly walk they worked with me in therapy through McLeod on their premises here the place was very clean people were very nice it was very nice to have people willing to support you in rehab and the equipment they have there and the two pools is fantastic

The place is nice with lots of equipment and clean and friendly for the most part, but like any place else there are certain people and also certain things that need to be addressed. One thing is now that daylight savings time is over, the classes seem more reasonable time wise, but from like April to Oct, if you don’t get out the door while it’s still dark, you won’t catch the best classes with best trainers, and when you’ve got dogs to walk.... well. The other thing is it is like a walk in freezer in the summer. Who doesn’t expect to sweat a little working out in the summer? Especially with the ocean breeze nearby. The other thing, Although the price and schedules might be better for retired northerners, the average southerner need to go up the road a piece to Pepper Geddings where they can workout for $5 a day (as a non MB resident) rather than $15 a day. Or to other fitness places now offering $10 per mo. Last but not least, you don’t seem to get much respect if you’re a newbie there. Several things I’ve asked they say, “well how long you been here, more than a year or two?” Translated “how much $$ have u given us already or can we trust you?” Today I tried nicely to explain that a couple of my guest passes had been lost, knowing that they Could keep track of that with the computer anyway, but front desk young man and older woman promptly gave me a no and the woman tried to lecture me about it but I told her I was gonna be late for my class and that I would just write a review. i didn’t understand some of the stuff when I bought the membership but at least when I had to go back to Indy for a few months one of the higher up ladies did suspend my account for me til I returned to SC but I have barely been able to use the place to date.

Pros: Clean, sufficient. Cons: you must provide your own towels and take your own soap and shampoo. For the cost this should be provided like my prior gym. Classes tend to cater to the retired. Those that work have no opportunity to participate in classes offered during the day.

I've been a member of the fitness center since it opened and have always been impressed with how it's been run. The personnel are always willing to help, are courteous and knowledgable. The variety of classes both in the pool and gym offer something for everyone. The hours of operation make it available to anyone looking to get in a workout. Keep up the great work! Disappointed. The rude and uncaring front desk staff have no knowledge of NMB Aquatic policy procedure or how to handle members who are upset when promises aren't kept....and for the bearded young man's information, members see you when you make faces and know when you ignore them. You aren't invisible, make eye contact, you can't hide in your little circle area....its open 360 degrees. Members also hear you when you tell your front desk co worker not to tell them the name of the prior days supervising manager who made a member (me) a promise based on policy procedure having been followed. The family atmosphere that once existed at NMB Aquatic Center appears to be gone since critical knowledgeable, and professional staff members have left. After 10 years I will be cancelling our membership. How hard is it to issue guest passes and make our family in town feel welcome as they visit for our daughter's wedding. Talking to the front desk personnel was like talking to a wall in a room with the lights off....nothing, just blank stares.

Normally wouldn’t take the time to write one of these but we have family in town for our wedding so super disappointed at the unnecessary stress created by the aquatic center - my family requested their 5 free passes for the year as part of what is included in the membership, my brother asked in person and my mother called on the phone on the same day. When my mother went to pick them up after the 24 hour period they said they weren’t processed because they had to be requested in person by her only. I checked out the policy book and it makes no mention of that. I use to work here as a fitness specialist and then a personal trainer - That being said I know that processing these passes is like a 5 minute thing that should of been completed in the 24 hour period... really disappointed. Also disappointed with the change in fitness director staffing, the gym is not the same place/environment has changed for the worse which is sad to see. And just so you know their rating is skewed - if you leave a poor rating on Facebook it hides it.*****

Great gym overall--we like it because it is air conditioned very well in the gymnasium / walking track and also in the pool atrium, which is important for many health conditions. The pools are large and well maintained. One is kept very warm, but one is cooler--great for MS patients! The therapy pool is separate and very large. Lifeguards are professional and alert. Indoor Water slide for kids is a bonus. We also appreciate the kid fit classes; several racquet ball courts, large gym with two courts; dry sauna; separate locker room for adults and younger kids; lots of showers and dressing rooms and lockers; smoothie bar in fitness center. Lots of equipment in aerobics room available for use between classes. Improvements: The women's bathing suit wringer is usually out of order and there are no toilet seat covers in bathrooms. They do not offer towel service. Water slide could be open more frequently.
