Here you will see the feddbacks of real people who have information of the products of Coastal Climbing Gym (Gym) in South Carolina.
At the moment the firm gets a score of 4.7 stars over 5 and that rating has been calculated on 55 reviews.
As you can read, its rating is nearly the best one, and it is based on a very large number of opinions, so we may conclude that the evaluation is very accurate. If many people have bothered to value when they are happy with the service, is that it works.
You know that we don't usually stop to give tatings when they are good and we usually do it only if we have had a problem or incidence...
This Gym corresponds to the category of Gym.
I've climbed at multiple gyms and crags throughout Colorado and the mid-west and am quite delighted with the quality of Coastal! The owners and route setters are clearly strong and knowledgable climbers as the routes are stellar. The ratings are on point and routes mimic what I climb outside. The walls are a bit shorter than what I'm use to, but I'm impressed with how the space is utilized (lots of sit starts). I most enjoy the overhang walls and traverse routes. To speak on the pricing, climbing is becoming extremely popular and Coastal prices are affordable and fair. I'm happy to contribute to a professionally run gym and to be part of the Charleston climbing community.
Overall I do appreciate the layout of the gym. They're out seem to be set pretty fairly. I wouldn't mind if they got to reset a little more often but my big quarrel that leaves me at 3 stars is the fees. $55 a month isn't a bad cost for a membership and I was a little hesitant with the extra start-up fee that came along with it. But now two months later after my workload has gotten heavier coming to the realization that I won't be able to climb as often as I want to, when I went to cancel my membership I was informed that there would also be a $30 cancellation fee for canceling before you had had a membership for a year. That seems like pretty sleazy business tactics to me. Edit: they were incredibly understanding when I explained my case. I'm sorry for being so abrasive earlier. These are good people and it's a great gym.
Great atmosphere and great people!
Best bouldering gym I have been to in the southeast. Gets you prepped to climb outside, great community, and awesome people to connect with. I used to miss out on climbing whenever I visited Charleston, but not anymore. Great gym to get strong at, and a great gym if you are just getting started.
Love coming here. Great for all skill levels and the routes are regularly reset.
I'm a beginner, and I've come climbing here five or six times. There are a ton of routes at all difficulty levels, and I doubt I could ever get bored. The owners and the regulars are all very friendly, and are quick to give you pointers and encouragement. It's a great atmosphere, and there's an opportunity to be part of a community if you're looking for that. They make it possible to do the initial paperwork online, which is awesome, and there are a couple other nice little touches that show they know how to leverage technology for your benefit. Go check it out, and enjoy the easy parking.
Only place to climb in Charleston. I mean I guess James Island has a wall, but why bother when Coastal Climbing is around? Super friendly staff and people that climb here
Amazing gym, amazing community, and a very kind and helpful staff. Everyone here loves what they do and are willing to provide tips if you ask nicely. Never had a bad time
Kensie and Jenna get a big thumbs up for bringing bouldering to Charleston, SC. Now, when I visit Mt. Pleasant, I can stay in shape for climbing thanks to Coastal. They have great bouldering and a tread wall, to work on endurance! they work hard to keep the routes fresh and fun.
Most climbers wouldn't even imagine there would be a climbing gym of this caliber, nor a group of climbers that are this psyched to pull down in a place such as Charleston SC. When I first heard about this gym opening up a few months back I was PSYCHED (there IS a community of climbers here!). When I met the owners (Kensie and Jeana) and saw the actual facility I was still excited but I was unsure if the place would keep my attention for more than a few weeks/months at most. I wanted a way to stay strong so when I traveled out of state I could keep up with my hommies who live and train where there are mountains and rock. Well I quickly realized that getting bored at this gym is pretty much impossible. The routes are extremely well thought out. The variety of wall angles are perfect for the size of the space, and since their recent renovation (they colored/textured the walls and added a bazillion holds, more roofs/volumes), I honestly can't see myself ever getting bored here. Oh and they keep this place SUPER clean, the prices are totally reasonable, the routes appeal to all levels, they ALWAYS keep the routes fresh, and the people who frequent this place are amazing. I've made a ton of friends and everyone cheers each other on. The music is always bumping/motivating... (thankfully), and the owners are very advanced in their use of technology to manage the sign in process/waivers etc. (which is really awesome - i.e. they've got ipads and wifi etc.) and are always surveying the members for what we want to be added to the space, so we get to feel a part of helping to create our 'home' away from home. I'm incredibly grateful that I don't have to give up my love of climbing since I moved here 2 years ago luckily now that this place opened up. I'm back at about the level of strength I was 15 years ago when I was climbing full time (bouldering makes you strong!) and I frequent this place 3x per week and NEVER have gotten bored. I can't even imagine it actually. I'd be over there 5x per week if I could fit it into my schedule. Whether you're a seasoned climbing veteran or a newbie, young or old. You gotta come down and check this place out. Whether you become a core member of the community we're building at Coastal Climbing or you just come hang with us and use the workout machines and weights... you'll dig the vibe and meet some amazing people. (Oh and I have a secret motive writing this review as I want the place to get even more busy so they have to EXPAND! Shhhh.. :)
chill vibe, good crew, nice problems.
Facilities aren't bad but terrible customer service. I felt like my money was welcome but I wasn't. I was a long time customer and my concerns were first treated like an annoyance and ignored then later taken personally and met with yelling and insults. Rock climbing is amazing and this facility is pretty good for a city without a climbing culture, but the attitude of the owners makes me feel like it's a shame that this place doesn't have any competition on the peninsula.
An incredible business. The owner is a really nice guy, and he makes the customers feel special. I had never tried bouldering before, but had been on a rope. Now, all I want to do is boulder in the gym! There are tons of great routes, and we went to return to Charleston for another vacation, just to climb there again! :)
Having started climbing at Coastal Climbing just a few months ago, I couldn't be any happier with the experience. It has a great location, great facilities, and great people! There's an amazing community there, and you can enjoy the rare combination of meeting cool people, getting a solid workout, and having a good time all in one place! The owners are constantly working to make Coastal even better. Recent examples include a treadwall, a complete renovation of the climbing area, and the addition of weekend clinics. I would recommend Coastal Climbing to anyone in the Charleston area, regardless of age, fitness level, or climbing experience (I started coming as a beginner).
This is the best place to climb in the Charleston area. It's jam packed full of routes and features and the atmosphere is great. At the moment there are V0-V7. Great beginner routes and awesome traverses, and if V7 isn't challenging enough and you ask nicely, I'll bet the owners would let you help set even harder stuff.
This place is so great. It's a different and fun workout in an environment full of friendly people. If you show up and have no idea what you're doing (like I did when I started), there are plenty of people ready to help you out! Great climbing products as well, and great staff. Go CLIMB!
Fun environment
I love Coastal Climbing! I have been a climber for 15 years, and when I first moved to Charleston, I had to build a home wall because there was no climbing gyms. Thanks to all the hard work of Kensie and Jeanna Whitfield I have moved out of my hot garage and now have a great place to climb and build community. I am stoked by the positive people who motivate me to try harder and improve my climbing. I am encouraged every time I see so many new members (of all ages) who are hungry to learn and grow in the sport. They have a joyful spirit and bring me back to my first days of enjoying climbing for the purity of movement and the challenge. The member mixers are great and help us relax and enjoy the vibe of sharing something we all love. My daughters (Rayna 10 & Chloe 8) love coming to Coastal with me. The door greeters (Shadow & Diesel), the resident canines, bring them such joy! So grab a friend and come join me for a great workout! I am the guy with the big beard and a smile :)
An incredible bouldering gym typically filled with awesome people, tasty treats and of course, awesome climbing. Love this place, including the chill/homework/jam area. Coastal is run by some great folks, definitely recommend it.
3.5 Compared to other gyms in other states its super small, so much that routes are basically on top of each other and the starts are super low. Parking is also hard. But points to them because they are like 1 of 2 indoor rock climbing gym in Charleston and the surrounding area! - ps: thanks for the response! You get extra points for that!
Love it
I honestly don't think this place could get any better. The owners really know just about everything there is to know about climbing and it shows! The routes are changed up routinely and the place is always spotless and in order. Definitely one of the most consistent businesses in the Charleston area.
At Coastal Climbing they really go the extra mile to make it not just a bouldering gym, but also a community and gathering place for many of us. The owners are incredibly friendly and down to earth people who are passionate about climbing and making sure you have a great experience. The gym was recently repainted and all of the holds cleaned and reset keeping the experience fresh even for those who have been coming since they opened. A truly great place that makes all feel welcome.
Lots of fun - patient staff. Worth the trip!
Super expensive for the size and quality. Also have seen the owner argue with a gym member. Haven't been back and let my membership lapse because of that.
Excellent pebbles. Was passing through from Boone NC and had to check out the stone-slappin goodness while I had some time. Ratings are set pretty steep but just don't climb for the number. Feeling pumped and satisfied.
Great small bouldering gym. Walls changed often. Friendly people and good vibe.
amazing facility and wonderful people!
Great little gym!! They have super helpful and friendly staff, a close-knit climbing community, and some great climbing. All bouldering, training area, treadwall, and co-working space. All-around awesome atmosphere. If I lived here, I’d be here always. The range of grades was excellent, and there were lots of challenging comp style problems. Everything is top notch and professional.
Great place for indoor climbing. They have plenty of games to play while your muscles take a break. They even had bottled yerba mate for a good energizer. Warm environment and friendly staff.
It's nice that since there's no mountains, at least there's still a place to climb. Makes me feel a bit more at home.
The climbing is well set and the routes are awesome. If you're looking for a place to get stronger, look no further!
A good crowd and accurate grades for the bouldering. I appreciate the use of the limited space they have.
Love this place! You can get a fantastic workout and have fun and the staff is great! Moved here and thought I had nowhere to climb...I'm a spoiled climber from out of town where there is bouldering and sport climbs around every corner, this place is amazing. Reminds me of home!
Coastal Climbing truly is THE premier bouldering gym in Charleston. I would say that the opening of this gym has increased the amount of climbers in Charleston tenfold and this is because of the friendly staff, fun atmosphere, and the great bouldering. This is a gym that makes it easy to grow as a climber and meet new friends in the process. The interior is chic and modern and the bouldering is top notch. If you are in the Charleston area and want a great workout while having a fun time, Coastal Climbing is the place for you.
Great gym. They make fantastic use of the space. Creative and on-grade setting and a friendly, supportive group of climbers every day. Always make time to stop in when I’m in the area.
My favorite place to climb in SC! I've really enjoyed all the experiences we've had in interacting at Coastal Climbing! Don't think I've ever heard anyone say a bad thing about the place!
Highly Recommend to any fitness enthusiast looking to get outside the box and try something new and exciting!
