Visiting from Colorado and was looking for a place to get some activity as well as escape the hustle of the city. This gym is exceptional across the board - great climbing, friendly staff, and friendly members. Didn't expect to find a climbing gym of this caliber in the city.

I’ve climbed there a couple of times while visiting NYC. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Definitely a nice vibe with a good mix of boulderers across all talent levels. Setting is great with a lot of nice problems, again for all levels. Facility is nice and clean which seems to be part of the CRG brand. Really enjoyed myself.

Visiting NY on hols and took my 12 year daughter to Central Rock for her regular "climbing fix". The staff couldn't have been more helpful and the bouldering walls were fantastic. Really nice touch with the free chalk bins - not seen that anywhere before ! Climbing routes for all levels and great gym area as well. For all you "climbing junkies" out there, my daughter and I would highly recommend you visit here

All CRGs I've been to are unique in their own way. The Manhattan gym did not disappoint!

Alex Peacher

This gym is AMAZING!! You walk in and think, wow it's in a very nice building, then you get to the climbing walls and they have a 40ft rope section!! The bouldering is really high quality, the setters know what they're doing. I can not recommend this gym enough! The staff are super friendly too!

Great gym— lots of toproping routes and bouldering too. Regular route reset routine. Staff is always quite nice. Fun place to climb at!

Tim Bariev

My favorite part is unlimited free rock-climbing classes. The groups are small, the participants are of different levels, and instructor answers all the questions and comes up with moves for every individual participant.

Lia Q

Their staff were wonderful! I bought a Belay class Groupon at the first time and the instructor, sorry I forgot his name, he was very nice and helpful though. It was a great experience. Then I brought my friend there this Thursday. She loved it. One of their staff even stopped her cleaning to help us climbing. We had a lot of fun together. And when we left they were also very very nice to say goodbye with smiling face and passion. Definitely I will go back and bring my friends there again! Thank you sooo much all Central rock staff!

The gym is super clean, setting is varied and interesting, community is fun, and staff is friendly and helpful. I climb there as well as my two boys. The breakfast club on weekend mornings is a great low-commitment introduction to climbing for kids and they can transition to recreational and competition teams if they catch the climbing bug. The instruction for both kids and adults is top-notch whether group classes or privates. We have learned a ton from the thoughtful staff. I also love that they have adult-only hours so I can enjoy some climbing time without my kids! Great bouldering gym!

Maria Amell

Clean facilities and friendly staff!

Heiko Gehrig

Very nice new bouldering gym. Staff are friendly and very approachable. Not to be too picky but I did find the day pass somewhat expensive ($30 at time or writing), although in all fairness the facilities are new and clean. Best of all, there’s free chalk!

Joseph Ham

Started my membership this month (transitioning from Cliffs LIC) and definitely looking to continue! Pricing: Standard for any rock climbing gym Top Rope: Primarily a bouldering gym. Pros: Routes cater to climbers of mostly all levels (5.5-5.12 I believe) Cons: Coming from a location that had a huge variety of toprope options, it is definitely a big transition with being limited to 8-10 routes at a given time. Boulder: Despite the amount of routes available/size at CliffsLIC, I would say that the bouldering routes here are much more interesting and provide variety as to types of problems available. From climbing here for a couple of weeks, it is evident how much thought the routesetters put into the climbs in providing problems that are technical, endurance-building, and, most importantly, fun. Staff: VERY accessible, VERY friendly. There is always a staff member present on the floor of the gym to provide help with any questions, comments, etc. Overall/Comments: Gym is always well-maintained (clean) The free chalk is a HUGE plus. Would like to see: Bar/Weights for the gym Showers Guest passes/1 per month are only free for first-time visitors and is half-off anytime the same guest comes the following month. It would be nice if guest passes can be applied such that it is free for any guest regardless of previous presence.

The gym finally opened and my expectations were blown away. The staff is friendly, when I have been, there has not been a wait for any of the climbs. The gym is spacious and quiet (great for an after climbing workout)

Paul Leclerc

This is the Best Rock Gym by far in Rhode Island. The routes range from 5.6 - 5.11+ and get changed on a regular basis. If you are into Bouldering or some awesome Vertical Routes, this is the place to go! The gym is always clean and the staff is super friendly and helpful. Time to get out of the house and have some fun "Playing with Gravity".

Henry Goldberg

This gym is an enjoyable experience. Signing up for a membership could not have been easier and the cancellation policy is so respectable it has other gyms in the dark ages. The facilities are clean and the bouldering routes change enough to keep interested. They have rope climbing, but if you are interested in going regularly to the NYC location, you should know it's primarily a bouldering gym.

I've had a gym membership at Central Rock Warwick for almost half a year now. I love this place. They offer so much, the staff is awesome, helpful and friendly, and they offer so many styles of climbs and levels. Always keeping things fresh. 5 stars for sure

I went during a promotion they had going where it was free for college students. It was beyond worth it. They had a free tutorial on how to belay, they gave us free rental of shoes and a harness. The staff was the best and super helpful with walking my girlfriend and I through everything. Jaime my instructor was a super cool dude as well. The place was pretty big and spacious. They had some good music playing while you climb or workout. Definitely a great time to just hang out with some friends, or get a good work out in. So much to offer. Definitely worth checking out if you're in the area.

This is my new goto climbing gym (and it's finally officially open). It's mostly bouldering with a hint of rope climbing. The setting has been spot on and walls are reset with enough frequency to keep things interesting. The staff is friendly as well.

Amazing rock gym for bouldering, top roping, and lead climbing. Very big and their hours are by far tge longest. Love it here!!

Jason Caballes

The facility is fine. Some of the setting seemed dangerous, a lot of the moves felt risky (slabs with not great feet up top with big volumes right below to break an ankle on and holds from other problems right in your face before a dynamic move). There are definitely some fun problems here still. There isn't much of a ropes section The one thing that put a bad taste in my mouth for the session was that after the orientation to see if I knew how to fall, the employee giving the orientation told me to ask her if I had any questions or "needed beta". The rest of the night was filled with other climbers giving unsolicited beta. This is not the way to talk to other climbers. This gym should focus on etiquette before giving falling lessons.

Wow! Is all I can say. I came tonight with not a clue of how to rock climb but always wanted to try. Allen, was so kind to walk us through how to use and do everything correctly and even gave us some one on one beginner training. We had the most epic time! Such a great, fun way to work out, have some laughs and learn the ropes - I hope to be a professional one day :). Definitely coming back here and 10000% recommend. Thank you so much!

Josh Goldberg

Great spot

Anton Gorshkov

Good gym, but they kick out the kids under 12 at 3pm on weekends, even if you get in before 3. A slightly more lenient policy would be to allow kids to stay so long as they entered before the 3pm cut-off, which would achieve a similar result. Believe this is the only gym in the city that has a 3pm cut-off for youth.

Matt Hipp

Super friendly staff and an incredible atmosphere maintained by all gym members! Highly recommended!

CRG is such a great facility! The space is functional and beautiful, the community is very open and noncompetitive, and I had a great time trying out the climbs. The volumes were all color coordinated which made the problems easy to read, and I appreciated how easily identifiable the warm up climbs are. I'm definitely going back!

Courtney Lind

They have child-free hours - AMAZING!!

Paulo

Great climbing gym. I believe, at the time of this writing, it is the newest gym in the CRG group. I am decreasing 1 star for, what I believe, is a silly design choice in the gym: They have a concrete walkway between the mats that separate the bouldering and top rope walls. It seems insignificant, but when you are wearing agros you do not want to be walking on a hard floor.

Elizabeth Rosenberger

I had a wonderful time with my friend here last week who had never been climbing before. From both our unique perspectives, our belayer Oliver catered to us and made the experience so much fun! We highly recommend him. Upon arriving, he was finishing a session with a 5 yr old girl (who could out climb us). It was really nice to see how great he was with the kids and how much they took to him. Wonderful to see someone who can work so well with kids and adults. Excited for our next climb and will be requesting Oliver! -Elizabeth

CRG Warwick is the best climbing facility in the Rhode Island area for three important reasons. The staff at CRG Warwick are extremely friendly and welcoming to all climbers of all ability levels. The staff actively interact with members, ask for feedback on the facility, and maintain a safe and fun environment. Jamie and Sean are always willing to put down whatever they're doing to help you out. This location is where I learned how to climb and by the end of my first visit, I already felt like a regular. The climbing at CRG Warwick has something for everyone. Boulders range from V0 - V12 and top rope climbs range from 5.5 - 5.13. The setting at CRG Warwick is perhaps one of my favorite parts of the facility in contrast with other climbing gyms in RI and other CRG facilities. The routes are fun to climb, varied in their styles, and have wonderful flow. The routes do not rely on gimmicks or overly parkour-esque movements to generate interest, but rather task the climber to employ good technique and body position to send a route. If you do enjoy more competition style setting, CRG Warwick does offer this style too, it's just not the majority of routes. I also feel like I'm improving as a climber when I climb here--Steve, the head route setter, knows how to set high quality routes and boulders for all ability levels, shapes, and sizes. Boulders and roped climbs are reset each week. CRG Warwick also has a lot of modern and new holds as well as a large assortment of volumes and wall shapes for a variety of climbs. Finally, the facility is wonderful. It's spacious, very clean, well lit, and constantly updated. About once a month CRG Warwick is improving something. There are clean, spacious bathrooms, a fitness room with plenty of equipment, a yoga studio, showers, a kitchen area with a fridge and microwave, and a kids climbing area. The other climbers at CRG Warwick are friendly and welcoming. Every time I climb there it seems like a make a new friend. If you're new to climbing, new to the area, or looking for a new home gym--I strongly recommend visiting CRG Warwick. The staff is nice, the facility is new and updated, and the climbing is fun, varied, always evolving. Come check it out!

Devon Murphy

Friendly staff, good route setting and it seems like the gym has a fast turn around so new routes are getting set all the time! They also have a nice weight room if you are into that sort of thing.

Was a super fun hour for my 4-year-old and looks like fun for adults too. We’ll be back!

Very welcoming gym - got a good deal on Groupon to check it out, and it was totally worth it. If you aren't coming with a partner, they do have two auto-belays with a decent mix of routes in the top rope area. I'm not into bouldering, but they put a LOT of effort into their bouldering wall so if you are into bouldering there are some interesting problems. Also, I appreciated the yoga mats, free weights, and other weightlifting equipment. On the weekends there are lots of kids activities in the gym but even during parties there's room to squeeze in on the top rope wall. Overall I'd say this is much better than I was expecting, and I'll be back.

Excellent rock gym with a regular gym and yoga studio built into the membership. Staff is friendly, and the routes are quite nice. It can get busy on weeknights, but there's usually enough for everyone to enjoy.

Jackie Goldman

I love this gym. The staff are super kind, the setters make cool routes, and the facility is well maintained. Highly recommend this gym for both newbies and seasoned climbing veterans

Nate Grygo

The CRG gym is a great gym for seasoned climbers and raw beginners! The gym offers top roping, sport climbing, and bouldering at a challenging and appropriately distributed grades.

Fun safe place for all to climb at recommend it to anyone an everyone

Bill Shubert

The bouldering here is fun, plenty of problems and some interesting setting (I was bouldering at the V4/V5 level). The facility was clean, the changing rooms and lockers were nice, etc. The only minus is the top roped climbs: There aren't many, they aren't very tall, and the setting is pretty simplistic, surprising since the boulder setting is so fun. Hardly anybody uses them. I think this might do better to just use the bottom half of the roped wall as extra bouldering space.

jennifer carpio

I was having a great time here until I fell and fractured my tibia when bouldering. Of course they make you sign a waiver because accidents like these can happen and do happen. The reason im giving them two stars was the way the staff handeled it and the 10 minute instruction on "how to land". If its your first time here, careful, doesnt matter if there are mats laid out, if you land wrong, it would most likely result in an accident.

Grace Berg

CRG is one of the first rock climbing gyms I've been to, and so I didn't even realize how lucky I was to live near it until I got more into climbing and explored other (not as great) gyms. The walls are clean and spacious, there's lots of variety, the staff are friendly and make an effort to remember patrons, and I've never felt like it's too crowded. Sometimes when it's warm they open up this big door in the back of the gym, and it's wonderful to climb with all that fresh air. Most climbers are courteous and fun to be around, and there's a whole range of ages. I bought both my shoes and the beginner package with a harness, ATC, and chalk bag here, where members get a discount their first month. CRG Warwick has been a fantastic place to climb!!!

Good, yet challenging experience. I love the different difficulties, "bouldering," and the workers there have lots of patience! Would go again if given the chance.

By far my favorite gym in the city. Very spacious, indoors/AC, easy cubbies/lockers, friendly staff, tons of events, amazing hours, holds are very clean compared to other gyms. And there are constantly new holds, sets are very unique.

I’ve been to plenty of rock climbing gyms, and this has been my absolute favorite. Admittedly, other gyms have better facilities (bigger lead walls, more boulder walls, etc.), but when climbing at those I always find myself missing the CRG in Warwick. Everyone who works and climbs there is incredibly friendly and caring, and that’s a huge part of why I love climbing. Below are some more specific pros and cons I’ve observed after climbing at the CRG in Warwick for over a year and a half. I’m a college student who will graduate soon, and I find myself worrying about finding a new gym I love as much as CRG Warwick. I originally chose between Rockspot and CRG, and I’m so glad I ended up at CRG. PROS -The climbing is great. Routes are reset regularly; they’re reset well and with care, and I can always find something both challenging and engaging. This should be one’s main consideration in climbing gyms, and CRG Warwick certainly ticks that box with ease. -Routes align with colored plastic holds. I hate routes marked with tape with a passion, so this is a plus. -The social atmosphere at the gym is wonderful, largely because of the wonderful people who work there. -The lighting in the gym is great at all times of the day. This can seem like a minor detail, but for me a well-lit gym is fundamental for winter training. -The walls and holds are very new, so the friction is great (prepares your skin for granite really well too!). -The fitness room has everything I want, from free-weights to a tension board, from treadmills to circuits and campus boards. -The bathroom is always clean and there’s a great shower if you need it (bring your own towel). -There is a sufficient variety of overhung and slabby walls, for both bouldering and ropes. -The membership has tons of free classes that I’ve never used. That option is wonderful and it’s cool how many options I have. Also, as a CRG member, you have free access to climbing gyms all over the north east. I went to NYC for a weekend and climbed for free in their Manhattan gym. CONS -The grades are pretty soft, particularly for the boulders. This is fine, so long as they are consistent, but sometimes the grades feel on par with outside, and sometimes they feel like CRG Warwick grades. Overall, a minor issue. -The majority of the boulders finish by grabbing the top of the wall. This is fun (if in doubt, dyno to the top!), but hasn’t prepared me well for more technical outdoor top outs when climbing my limit (more air starts would be great). -I believe there is only one route setter. Others help him, to be sure, but I find that I’ve gotten pretty accustomed to his overall style. Of course, I love all the routes and have no complaints about the climbs themselves, but some more variety in setter-vision would help me progress as a well-balanced climber. -The lead wall is not as tall as other gyms, and the boulder walls miss out on more extreme overhangs. That being said, I don’t find myself wishing for them.
