Here we offer you all the reviews of people like you who have information of the products and services of The Works Health Club (Gym) near New Hampshire.
To this day the business has a rating of 4.1 stars out of 5 and the rating has been calculated on 205 reviews.
You must have seen that the average score it has is quite good, and it's based on a high number of opinions, so we can be pretty sure that the assessment is very credible. If people have bothered to value when they've done well, it works.
As you know, we do not usually bother to place tatings when these are positive and we usually do it only if we've had a problem or issue...
This Gym corresponds to the category of Fitness center.
A very good place to exercise with plenty of machines, a variety of machines and helpful staff.
Awesome club! I joined the Healthy Care 90 program and really love it. They have lots of classes, indoor and outdoor pool and the club is always clean.
DON'T EVER TRY TO CANCEL WITH THIS PLACE BOY OH BOY WILL THEY MAKE YOU JUMP THROUGH HOOPS AND ALL OF THEIR ASSOCIATES WILL BE UNAVAILABLE AND THEY'LL ALL TELL YOU DIFFERENT THINGS. SO GLAD I NEVER HAVE TO DEAL WITH THIS RIDICULOUS PLACE EVER AGAIN.
Has everything you could need!
This is an amazing gym! love it here!!
Okay, the gym itself is fairly nice. Good amenities and space to work out. However, there are two main reasons why I am giving this place one star... First are the silly policies they try and enforce on new members. Want a swipe card so you can quickly walk into the gym? Oh, you need a 2 hour consultation with a fitness trainer before that can happen. Why you ask? Because basically they want you to spend more money should you decide to hire that trainer. We never wanted the consultation and were rudely told told by even the trainer herself she wouldn't let us have a swipe key without her consultation. This is despite the fact that we informed her we are extremely busy working parents who don't have 2 hours to casually spare. What a slap in the face after plunking down a couple hundred bucks. Next is the cancellation policy. We ended up moving out of the area due to a job relocation and had about 4 months to go on our membership. We cancelled March 3 and were then told that our last day would be April 30, plus an extra $125 early termination fee. Ouch...I understand we signed a contract, but you would think they could show some good faith. What a joke. I hope anyone reading this reconsiders their decision to join this place.
I like the going there when I can actually use stuff. The gym is always being used for other things then basketball its annoying since i want to do stuff and they dont let you. I pay 125/month to be able to use stuff sometimes
Awesome facility, would give 5 stars if the pricing was a little lower.
My club, great place.
The Works is fabulous. The staff are friendly and helpful, they have all kinds of amenities like a smoothie bar, childcare, personal training, and a sauna while also having a great variety of equipment and classes available. And while it is looking a little worn, they have been updating the facilities.
Great equipment and classes available. The pool areas are nice and there is something for people of all ages. Having the Juicery on location has been awesome!
Great!
While somewhat upscale, they have excellent, clean, and well maintained equipment, and a good selection as well. They also offer adult swimming lessons. Both of my kids learned to swim here.
Best gym
Great facilities. Slightly odd layout, but otherwise worth the investment, especially for families.
I enjoy being a member at The Works mostly because of the outside pool in the summer and inside pool in the winter. I have a 15 month old daughter and she liked the outside pool last summer, but I have a feeling this year will be a lot more exciting for her! I do wish that they offered some sort of play/tumble area (not a class, just available to members) to play in during the winter for younger children. I feel like if we go there as a family all we can do with her is go swimming or bring her to the daycare service they offer.
Going for PT
Great place
This place is a ripoff. The monthly rate is over 60$ a month to join. All of the equipment is extremely outdated and never cleaned. When I went to cancel my membership they charged me 40$ to cancel. None of these fees were explained when I signed on. This place is a scam join planet fitness and save your money because this place is not worth it.
Great gym with indoor pool and different class like yoga available
I've been a member for 7 years now and couldn't imagine not having The Works in my life. I go there to see all my gym friends which is great taking classes with them. I don't want to exercise alone, misery loves company and we all suffer and support each other during them. It is wonderful being in a positive upbeat environment where everyone is trying to improve themselves. Everyone there is encouraging, supportive and helpful for meeting personal goals if you have them. I would recommend this facility for everyone. I was never a gym person and I still don't really feel like I am one. I really don't use any workout machines, I go to the fantastic classes offered. The instructors are amazing, the variety of classes is remarkable, you won't be disappointed
Pretencious. Rude. The Jonses. Told me "this isn't planet fitness" during a phone inquiry. Broken email links across the page. Unprofessional. Elitist. Non-inclusive. I will be at "planet fitness" with people who don't deserve oxygen.
Love the classes on Sunday mornings & Wednesday nights!
Great gym, good clean facilities, childcare offered ( for a fee regardless of membership). Parents night out babysitting for members and non for a fee 4pm-8pm normally, lots of classes, ok staff, multiple locker rooms, showers, great pools! A bit on the expensive side but the amenities are there.
I am a new member. I was given some passes for guest and forgot them at home. Since I live 30 minutes away, my daughter paid so her two kids could swim. Mind you she didn't swim but had to pay for herself as well. The front person wasn't the nicest either. Well we went swimming but now the water slide was closed. So we went to do laps and sit in the hot tub. But we were told children under the age of 16 couldn't be in the hot tub. We left because there wasn't anything that the kids could do. Oh yes, my daughter paid $34 for nothing.
Great club.
I've been going to the Works for a number of years (about 5). The staff is friendly and the facilities very well suited for my needs. I will not be renewing this year, however, due to a lack of transparency on membership prices. I am currently paying $15 more per month than another member despite paying for a full year in advanced and with a corporate discount.
Rebecca is a pleasant, encouraging instructor
An amazing facilities always very clean. Employees work very hard and know what they are doing.
I wish there were more group fitness classes very early in the morning and/or later in the evening. It seems like most classes fall during family dinnertime. We really love the pool, both indoor and out. The kids always have a blast.
Love the trainers and the hot tub, but they don't offer much programming or facilities for my pre teen and social events too slanted on selling to new members rather than improving the social aspects of the club. Better pools in the area for the lap swimming that are more competive price wise. Signing up can be a pain since it has to be done in person. Online services are clunky with still a lot of manual paperwork or intervention going on behind the scenes. Good assortment of fitness classes. Lots of staff turnover the past few years.
The works is great, but I am not happy that they no longer support veterans by offering a veteran discount.
So I joined just 3 months ago... I wanted a family friendly place to spend time with my Wife and one year old daughter ... I use to go to the gym and I had a past balance due so I was wary about trying to rejoin but I stopped in anyway I let the man know I had a balance .. he sat there ! And said okay ! Well I can put you on the family plan and your balance will not be an issue, it was long ago and your on a family plan now ! Wow this place is awesome ! Sure I'll pay you the Full upfront fee to join now !!! So ...I paid in full and they took my money for 2 months I continued paying my fees and it seemed OKAY before contacting me with " The Problem " So I ask why I have not received a card yet and they took me out back They said Oh you cannot join this account ! I said "well you guys recommended and placed me on your account and iv been paying for months what's the issue !? "Sir in 2009 you have a previous past balance " LOL I cannot believe I just got scammed by the works.. I have a one year old .. they did not have to LIE
Pools walking track all exercise equipment you desire
Hard to believe that I'm reviewing a Health Club, but The Works is more than just an exercise or fitness center. There are great resources for your kids, too.
Great place for swim lessons
It's ok.
I have been coming here for a long time. Great facility
I learned after paying the 150 up front fee to join that most of the members I spoke to didn't pay. It seams they run specials many times thru the year so be mindful as to when you join. Also I got hospitalized only a month after joining and they sprung a $15 per month freeze fee to freeze while I am sick. Yes, it has everything however it is no where near clean enough to be this expensive.
Very friendly, great classes lots of options
The Works is an all inclusive health club with great personal training!
The work has been a tremendously awesome place. a little crowded at times but theirs so much to do. Waght training, different classes to join swimming ect
High quality fitness center. Wicked friendly staff
I have never been here. Wanted to workout here so I called to see if they have a "day rate". Ridiculous. One visit was the same cost as two months membership at my club back home! Weights must be sprayed with gold flake!
Great
I love going to this gym. There are a lot of options, people are friendly, and the staff is very helpful.
I just joined the works and i love this health club, i go swimming it has 2 indoor swimming pools one for laps and one for just swimming and it has an out door swimming pool and a play out water play area ,it has 6 racquet ball courts a tennis court an indoor running track and it has indoor basketball courts it has a food bar and a store to buy all kinds of stuff for the gym you also have martial art classes and spinning classes and lots of other stuff to do it also has a great weight lifting area and a good resting area if you just want to relax so its a fun place, come try it
It's a fitness club and summer water park kinda check it out if you want to know more
Very tight space. Not that much gym equipment. For the price you pay monthly you would expect there to be at least more equipment and more space. Also they shut down the women’s locker room upstairs for “renovation” after many months, all it looked like they did was paint the walls... Currently on the lookout for a larger more equipped gym
We had a birthday party here, the staff is really great and there is so much to do for all of the kids. The indoor pool is really fun with a water slide and plenty of areas to swim for everyone. Birthday parties are really well organized highly recommend.
Great facilities, equipment is well maintained and modern, clean showers, pools are great, lots of resources, staff is very helpful. It's pricey but understandable given what you get. Wish it were open an hour later each day (closes at 10pm weekdays & 8pm on weekends).
A very well maintained facility with a variety of group training classes. Definitely worth the money!
Great environment for self-improvement, both the facility and the folks.
Love the facility, super clean, helpful friendly staff. Only a bit pricey, though they do offer a ton of classes, multiple rooms for different machines/style of workouts. Favorite place is their outdoor pool/splash pad for the kiddos. They also offer ChildCare!
Have been here several times, for birthday parties, with my grandchildren! They are very organized, helpful and always around keeping watchful eyes on the kids in the pools! Highly recommend for a fun activity!
Great idea, some sloppy execution. For the rates they charge, they should do better than having the slide closed but for an hour at the end of a 95F day
Great place to exercise.
best place ever really nice pool i have been there one day it was really fun
Great Place
I'm a lap swimmer and the Works puts our interests last. They spent beaucoup dollars on a family aquatic center but left the lap pool as is. There's only one or two lanes available for laps because they have aquatic fitness classes that use multiple lanes, they schedule private le$$ons at a time when people would like to swim laps, walkers use lap lanes, etc. There's another indoor pool that could be used for classes, lessons, and walkers. The Works should leave the lap pool for lap swimming!
Prices are too high
Cool Expresso bikes! See if you can beat my high score
Very expensive and disturbing things happening in bathrooms.
My MD referred me for the 60 day medical RX program due to my poor balance and gait. I chose this over PT so I could go more often. Jess was great at setting me up with an exercise pgm. I've been going every 2 days and am gradually increasing my reps, weights, and cardio length. I'm feeling hopeful I'll be back to normal in the 60 day program!
They have everything, great place to find any exercise you need, people are so nice and helpful. Beautiful outdoor pool and good snack bar.
Sick and tired of feeling ripped off at this place. For $125/mo I would expect many of the "extras" they make you pay for to be included at a significant discount or for free. Instead, the pricing you are paying for classes, camps, and childcare is only about 10% cheaper than the general public! Want to play racquetball? Just rent a racquet for $10! Want to bring a friend to play? That will be $15 more! The kicker was when I tried to cancel my membership after I stopped going. Tried over the phone and was informed that I had to physically come in to do so. Really? You can't email or fax me something I asked? No, it can only be done in person. Had to take an hour out of my day to go in and sign a sheet of paper. What a joke....
I recently signed up again after having left the club for a few months (due to unemployment). After getting a new job, I looked around at all the clubs in the area, including in Portsmouth. I wanted to make sure we joined the club that worked the best for us. For our family of two working adults and three young children (ages 4, 6 & 8), I'm convinced The Works is definitely the best choice. It's certainly not the least expensive choice. But you get what you pay for in this case. The Works has the most options for us to fit exercising into our busy schedule. Child Care runs most evenings until 8pm and on the weekends. It costs about $3 for 2 hours. All other places end child care at 6 or 6:30 - not very helpful if you get off work at 5:30 pm... The two indoor pools are great. One pools for laps and the other for open swim, which includes a waterslide. During the summer there is a wonderful outside pool & water slide that the kids love playing in. It's great to bring a picnic dinner for early evening swims after work. They have a parent's night out a few times each month. And during holidays and school breaks when my wife & I have to work, they have vacation camp. My 8 year old loves the Kids Fitspot. They have a wii, and other Nautilus-type & electronic exercise items for kids older than 8. He's enjoying Dance Dance Revolution and the wii sports the best. There are a few family bathrooms near the indoor pool which help keep our youngest ones under control a bit better and not running out the locker room in their underwear...*rolls eyes* There are also swim lessons, other classes including Mr. B's martial arts but we haven't participated in them yet. Surf the web site for more info - it's mostly accurate. Always call to confirm though. And for when you're at the gym by yourself, they have nice, quality facilities. Steam room, sauna, whirlpool, showers with complementary soap, hair dryers, swim suit dryers, healthy snacks & juice drinks (you pay for), etc. And of course, they have all the cardio & weight machines you could ask for along with seasonal tennis, racquetball, sports trainers, etc. But from my point of view, every gym has that stuff or similar. It's the services geared towards kids & families that we need. The other club that would have worked, although not quite as well, is the YMCA in Portsmouth. They also have good childcare and a pool and their rates are very reasonable.
My husband & I come here at least 3 days a wk sometimes more. We have had a great experience w/staff being really helpful as well as meeting a great group of people.
Best health club around, they have everything! Hours could be earlier on the weekend
Bad front desk staff, a little bit expensive. Pool staff took a noodle away from my 5 year old daughter despite being the only one swimming. They asked her to bring her own and not to use theirs that were stored at that time.
Needs more options for college students on breaks.
Nice place. Pretty expensive.
Get a membership here if you like to be treated like a toddler. The front desk workers look at you like you are interrupting a giant circle jerk every time you walk in. You know that “what are you doing here? please go away, now is not the time look” and groan any time you ask them a question. They hate helping people. They discriminate against young people. Their equipment is elementary compared to a gym like Iron Empire which is more affordable and more of a bang for your buck. I have been approached for sexual activities on several occasions in the men’s locker room. It is not a pleasant environment. Besides all that it’s overall a great place!
Everything you'd need for a work out and more. Well maintained stocked weight room, clean locker room with a dry sauna and steam room, and a juice bar on site. My niece loves their pre-school program, too.
Great staff and clean facility
Great facilities, nice indoor pool and programs, kind of pricy
Great place to workout. Friendly staff that make you feel welcomed. So much extra to do, including; swimming, racket ball and track.
MD suggested I join program for rehab of knees replacement after completing PT. Initial visit for consultation and tour. The physical part of consult was too much for my knees to handle but I blame myself for not stopping. Won't be able to go back for a week due to pain. The staff seems friendly and knowledgeable. Facility seems fairly clean. Many studios with weight machines and free weight. 2 indoor pools appeared clean. Not too busy at 2pm midweek. Not sure if I will join club for a year. Expensive.
Great gym.
This place is pretty dang awesome they have everything here
Love it!
Although the membership and day passes are pricey The Works has a lot to offer from a decent sized weight room to multiple swimming pools and racquet/basketball courts. There is also friendly and helpful service although for the first month of my membership there were technical issues with my account they seemed to have difficulty solving. I also wish there was some sort of rule to not be walking around Butt as* naked around the locker room like it’s your home bathroom because if you’re just doing a quick change it’s fine but when your strutting around with what Gad gave you for everyone to see it just gets uncomfortable. That is all.
Great facility and even better people
Seriously overpriced which is a shame because if they didn't charge $150 sign up fee on top of $75 a month ($60 if you sign up for a year), I'd have considered joining. I would have thought a fitness club affiliated with a hospital would have tried to be more affordable to encourage health and fitness. Had read there was a swim only option and called to ask about it, however this does not exist. The facility overall is nice, but when you have no interest in the machines or classes and are just looking for an adult lap pool not full of children, the cost is just too high. On the plus side, the lap pool is adult only and there are adult only changing rooms upstairs and they do have steam and sauna and are clean and spacious.
For the entire family. All the time. Every day.
I cancelled my membership with The Works today. It’s a good club with competent fitness staff and lots of extra options on offer. It has even upgraded recently to good effect, but I just wasn’t using it, no matter how I incentivized myself. It is unlikely I will ever join again, even if I receive a “no enrollment fee” offer, like I did for this (the second) time I joined. One too many interactions with staff members left me feeling that I was regarded as an income source rather than a thinking person.
I got a good workout at the fit spot
I first called to ask some questions. The program director never called me back. The membership was hurried and unfriendly at best. I decided to go in and speak with them in person. I spoke with a different memberhip person. She was abrupt and very put out to give me a tour of the facility. Focused mostly on rules and fees. I also spoke with the program director in person amd she was very unpleasant. She told me about the programs they didn't actually have available and offered no alternatives. I don't think it is unreasonable to expect good customer servise when shelling out that kind of cash. It was a huge turn off. I will research all my other options before heading back there. It will be my last resort.
Very clean only downside it gets really crowded in classes
Great place! So many different places and ways to get your work out in. I love my personal trainer.
The whole family loves it.
Wasn't real impressed. More for a younger generation.
Best gym for families
I "cancelled" my account back in June/July of 2018. I get a piece of mail in December saying my membership price was increasing in February because I was turning 26. So I go in during January 2019 to figure out what was happening. I thought it got all figured out. Nope, I got charged $61 in February and then $79 just yesterday, March 7th. Since the time I "cancelled" my account, they've stolen $350 from me. Absolutely terrible accountability and business practices.
I very much enjoy the Works. Staff is extremely friendly ospecially at reception area, great equipment, great for socializing. It has a theme of everyone just chats and is friendly. If you would prefer not you do your own thing and people leave you alone. ***One MAJOR PROBLEM. They allow boys under the age of 4/6 in downstairs ladies locker rooms with their moms. This is TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE. There is a womens only locker room upstairs also but both should be female only. Thats why they have Family locker rooms. Why are moms sooo damn stubborn and allow their boys in with them. There are FAMILY LOCKER ROOMS. Use those. And sinage is sooo confusing. "Boys under the age of whatever allowed only in ladies locker rooms in company of moms." should be plain and clear. **** "WOMEN ONLY" **** "MEN ONLY" **** FAMILY LOCKER ROOMS DOWN THE HALL." New members Beware of this ongoing problem that is never addressed and frustrating when mom is in showers and kids (boys) are running around whipping other shower curtains open or crawling under toilet area doors. Other than womens privacy issues, its all around a good place.
Not at all member centric. Program desk scheduling is a nightmare. It also seems their rules and policies related to pricing change all the time with no notification to members. The staff members at the desks are not the most helpful and don't seem to ever want to go the extra mile for anything. Poor Customer Service in general. The facilities are ok. The quality of the swimming instructors is the only reason we go back at all any longer. There are much better club options on the Seacoast if you are looking for just a nice health club for yourself.
SCAM!!! This company is extremely unethical and has committed fraud and misrepresentation. I cancelled my membership and they are charging me 3 months of dues. When I signed up they rushed me through the contract and were very misleading by telling me I could cancel at anytime. They raised the my dues in February and I called to cancel. Now in October I received a collections letter for over $500. I called the business to find a resolution and spoke with both Tanya and Doug. They were both extremely rude and disrespectful. They told me I was an idiot for not reading the Fine Print in the contract. I repeatedly explained the situation and asked if they would be willing to help me. Again they told me I should of read the contract. I stated that I would be posting on the BBB and other sites if they were not willing to help me. Doug laughed at me and told me "GOOD LUCK"
Fun place to have a birthday party with active chuldren. Spacious gym and nice swim area indoors. The staff is polite and keeps things moving.
Wonderful family gym
Great equipment, great staff, good hours. Epic pools. Often busy.
I've been with the works for about 2 years now but have been a member in the past also. Everyone is smiling and happy to greet you when you first walk in the door. Everyone is extremely courteous of others. I love the aerobic classes there are so many and such a variety. The pools are awesome and the aquatic classes are fantastic also. At one time I thought $59.00 was high for a membership but for what you get it is worth every penny that I pay ! I'm sad to hear some of these reviews, as I haven't seen any of the issues since I've been there.
I started a membership, very impressed with the appearance of the gym. I became dissatisfied with several things. Especially with the "preschool" which is really a glorified utility closet. It is in a very small room, containing several mops and full mop buckets, a couple of mats (seated next to the mops) for children to play on, and a small table for kids to have snack. I decided that I was spending too much money on a membership I wasn't happy with and wrote to inform them that I wished to cancel my membership. I was given a sales pitch to "suspend" my membership for four months. During those four months I would be billed $15 instead of $94 and then after those four months, my membership would resume along with the $94/month payments. I reminded Doug Eason that I wasn't interested in maintaining my membership and that it wasn't about the money, but if it was, that $15 to not use the gym is more than an active membership with full personal training at Planet Fitness. At this point, he stopped responding altogether. I clearly stated that I was withdrawing my consent to automatically withdraw money from my account and, again, got no response. Normally fees are withdrawn on the fifth. So, I was surprised when I saw that the fees were withdrawn on the first of the next month. I emailed Doug again and told him that if the money was not returned to my account, I would file a complaint with my bank and with the BBB. Again, I got no response. I waited one week and then filed a complaint with my bank. On the eighth, I found that The Works had withdrawn the membership dues for a second time in one week. Totaling $188 for one month after I withdrew consent to automatically withdraw funds. I have now filed a second complaint with my bank and a complaint with the BBB. My advice is to look elsewhere. The pools are beautiful, but no one is ever on duty and the slides are almost never open. The rooms are massive and often house very little workout equipment. The childcare room is okay, but directly beneath the big weights room. The "preschool" is not a "preschool".
Great place, but it's expensive. Indoor/outdoor pools, indoor track, sauna, steam, tennis courts, weights, and machines. Equipment is always in good shape. Locker rooms/ rest rooms are clean.
