They did not tell us that by signing up we were committing to a year. When I called to cancel after 6 months they said I couldn't and that I was obligated to pay for the entire year. When I told the front desk staff that we were never informed of this, her response was that they're required to tell us and that if we stop paying they'll send us to a collection agency. Just because they are "required" to tell us doesn't mean they actually did. Deceptive practices and uncaring staff. I enjoyed my actual use of the facility but will not be returning.

Nothing surprises me at this "health" club anymore. My buddy and I came to expect uninterested customer service, filthy equipment, equipment failures, and disorganized weights at every free weight station. I've never been to a gym where the 10 lbs disc weights are behind the 25 lbs and the 45 lbs disc weights on a rack. We would laugh often when we found weight locks wedged between these constant messes as we sorted through them to get the right weight on our bench or squat barbell. None of the dumbbells are in order. You can find the 10 lb dumbbells placed juxtaposed to the 70 lb dumbbells. So you search for the right weights constantly in order to use them. The worst part about all of this, is when you finish a workout, you have to remember to wash your hands immediately. When you do, you'll see the black dirt spatter on the sink and run down the drain as you clean them. At least they have soap on the bathrooms!

Capital City is a great club! In my opinion, it’s the best in Helena! It’s a Great place for individuals or a family! The staff is the bomb! Super friendly & just a great group of people. They do a great job of welcoming people and answering any questions you may have. The facility is clean and has so much to offer: 1) spacious gym with plenty of weights, benches, equipment and machines; 2) full size basketball court; 3) swimming pool, lap pool, jacuzzi, sauna, steamer; 4) kid’s club for your kids to play in while you workout (call for available times). My kids love the pool, basketball court and the kids club! They offer so much more too: classes, cardio equipment, smoothie bar.... You can’t beat Capital City!

While I like this gym, the staff tends to lack knowledge, doesn't support its clients - nor the rest of the staff. The training or floor staff are never around to help with equipment. My biggest complaint - NO FACIAL TISSUE 99% of the time (to blow your nose you must either use TP, paper towel, or your sleeve - gross!). The equipment is often VERY dirty and I wonder if the equipment is ever CLEANED by anyone other than a patron wiping off their own sweat. The lockers are never cleaned (well, maybe not never, but not for the past 2 months -I tend to use the same locker every day and they bottom is covered in outside dirt tracked in). A positive: I HAD a great trainer who was forced to quit. Why? Because she was TOO FRIENDLY with her clients..... I canceled my training contract.

Beware, and don't expect reasonable negotiations here - in fact, it might be good to bring your attorney to review the contracts! During the course of a move out of town, we attempted to cancel our membership after over a year of use. We were told to fill out paperwork, which we did, and to also provide supporting documents as proof of the move. The staff informed us that we could bring these supporting documents in whenever it was convenient, however when we provided these a few weeks later, they informed us that we were now too late and that we would be billed for an additional month. I reached out to the manager to discuss this situation, and instead of working towards a solution, she postured behind the language of the contract and is refusing to provide any concessions towards reconciling what was bogus information provided by her staff. While its expected that we all be held to account on the contracts we sign, we also expect to be provided accurate information and for management to strive for good customer relations - even when customers are ending contracts as a result of a move. My experience with the manager at this location proves to me that good will is not a top priority, and that it's more important for Capital City Health Club to squeeze another month of billing from our situation than to send a customer out the door with a good opinion of our experiences at the club.

Someone took pictures of me when I was on a machine waiting for my friend to arrive. I don't know who but someone short and buff, a regular and definitely someone rude who told me "don't worry about it". Also, when you're cancelling, there is a mandatory one extra payment for the next month so plan accordingly.

Josh

Awesome atmosphere, plenty of weights around in the weight room. Lots of cardio equipment, great place to work out. The 49.99 a month is definitely worth it.

I've been a member for a little over a month...and so far, I really like it. The staff has been very friendly and helpful...although I was a pretty disappointed with my "free" training session that came with my membership sign-up...it was basically just another tour of the facility and an opportunity to pitch their personal trainers for an additional fee. I guess I was hoping they would weigh and measure me and give me a starter routine, so I knew what I should be doing in order to reach my goals...hence the reason I joined. Then I wouldn't mind paying for some follow-up training to make sure I'm staying on the right track. Oh well. I attend numerous classes throughout the week and use the circuit and machines frequently. Zumba kicked my butt and I didn't think Yoga would make me sweat so much! I was really concerned that it would be too crowded, as the parking lot is always FULL...but the machines are always available and the place never seems to be that busy. Not sure where all the people are hiding... Reading some of the other reviews...I'm not sure if CCHC has made some improvements...but I have yet to find a dirty machine...and I'm pretty sure if I did, they would be willing to wipe it off for me. Also, the contract seemed standard...like any other contract you would find at a gym, You're locked in for a year and then month-to-month there after...UNLESS...you make changes to your membership, then the 12 mo commitment starts over. For example, I started with a family plan consisting of 5 people...but I thought my sister might want to join as well...the CCHC Rep suggested that I add her sooner rather than later, to avoid extending my 12mo commitment. I felt he was very upfront about the contract details. If you have concerns, just ask the CCHC Rep to explain. I would recommend this gym!

Lost my hold paperwork this last October and now lost my cancellation paperwork... Tried to leave a message for the manager and her line cannot accept more messages... The only problem they don't have is taking the membership fee out whether it's cancelled or on hold... Poor management.

Best gym in Helena.

Smax1well

Great all in one gym. It's got a basketball court, two pools a 24 access area sauna and steam room. Staff is very helpful.

Barry Obie

I have tried getting rates and information about this gym through several emails and Facebook messages. I know, I could try just calling, but that's not my style. I finally got response to a Facebook message that if I send my phone number they would call. "Fine, " I thought. If you insist on phone communication... So I sent my number. But after 2 days, still no call. This would be the most convenient gym for me, but if they don't feel the need to answer my questions, I'll just go somewhere else that has.

I had my membership for over a year and then decided to cancel due to the fact I use the gym at work more since I moved across town. I thought that I had fully canceled my membership but instead they had only canceled the other name on the account because I hadn't listed my name also. I was the primary account holder and wanted to cancel all of it. Because of this I ended up paying for an additional three months under a one person membership that I didn't even know I had. Also the front desk manager Nicole made it seem like it was my fault and gave complete bs answers as to why it hadn't been canceled and put the blame on her staff. (The kid I had talked to the night before had apologized and told me it happens all the time.) Bottom line- if you want to cancel your account be sure to list every single person on your account otherwise they will keep billing you. I'm out $150 and I didn't even get a fake "I'm sorry sir" from her.

Camera phones in shower room, perverts and rude employees

I have had a membership here for over a year. Come to find out that the whole year and some odd months I was there they did not once give me my discount for being a student(15$) which I told them about and they then returned only 30 dollars back to me. The staff is also very rude and stuck up. They do not greet you when you come in and nor do they offer assistance when assistance is required. They need some serious new hires or a staff meeting on how to treat customers..... worst gym experience ever.

Hunter Green93

Wayyy overpriced. Good gym to go to if you live with your parents still and have money to piss away. In order to use the "24 hour section" which is basically the small basement you even have to pay extra for that on top of your regular membership which is under contract. This place is for people that like to post their workout selfies on social media or who just want social status. When the employee gave me a tour around the place I basically laughed at everything, I've worked out and have been a member of a lot of gyms but this place looked like a joke with a juice bar.

Steve Gascho

Great staff and great equipment. Have not had the issues described by older reviews. Equipment is well-maintained and clean.

Argon Smith

Beautiful facility, broad range of equipment, good programs, good food (especially the smoothies), fair pricing, polite staff.

Jessica Christensen

I am a relatively new member and I like the club a lot. It's always clean. The front counter staff are always friendly. I always get a machine with no wait. I can say my only complaint is that at least once a week there are no sweat towels. Why? I run a lot and it's super inconvenient for me to be dripping sweat all over the place. I go at 1:00 m-f because its directly after work. I'd love to have a clean towel every time.

The members drop weights so loudly and hard it knocks out the lights in the stores below. I go into those businesses and I get a headache before I leave, from the weights dropping. I have called to ask them to calm down with the dropping but nothing has been done.

One of the cleanest health clubs I've ever been to.....

DStang

I went in there today to play basketball with my son for an hour. The guy wanted to charge me $15 dollars. I wasn't even in shorts, had no shoes to play in. I said, "dude I'm not even really playing (basically just rebounding)". Guy behind desk "doesn't matter sorry". 15 for my son to shoot hoops basically... Hell no. I've had a membership here before. While in roam. The gym isn't properly cleaned. Wash your hands in and out of the place and watch massive amounts of dirt wash off your hands. The hot tub is always poorly maintained. The saunas never work. People that work out in this gym will slam weights down hard and staff will do nothing. Staff is always hard to deal with.

I've been going here since 2014 minus a couple years I didn't live here. I think it's a great facility. It has its ups and downs on staffing, but who doesn't. I see people complain about the price point. I agree it's a bit high, but the perks make it worth it. I don't just lift weights I also use the sauna, steam room, and hot tub. If I just wanted weights I'd go somewhere like Tiny's, but I want the whole package. CCHC has it.

Evie Davis

Way too expensive. Definitely not worth it.

Andrew Elford

The staff lacks integrity and the management of the basketball league in the club has no clue what its doing.

I can't say enough about my family at CCHC.They are a network of people who have a"got your back "attitude. I use the word family, as it is undoubtedly the core of what I believe Capital City Health Club represents. They are a family of individuals with a sense of caring commitment and knowledge.Along with all that comes the amazing facility with any kind of fitness equipment at my disposal. It is a club that caters to me with the goals I set, to give me the outcome I desire.Who could ask for more. Without all of the above, it would be just another club! Kudos to all at CCHC for making it the best of the best!

The entire lower floor of the gym has two barbells. It’s been that way for two years now, with continued promise of additional equipment “in a couple months,” which has never happened. Had to wait 40 minutes to get a bar today ... if you’re looking to use barbells or free weights here, they are in short supply.

Christopher Rossi

I checked this gym out and was a bit disappointed. The equipment is nice but was not maintained very well compared to other gyms I’ve been to do. The Stairmasters were covered with dried sweat running down the sides. It was a bit yellow and hadn’t had a wipe down in a while. The cardio equipment is also very basic and rudimentary. I jumped on a treadmill and the TV didn’t work, then I jumped on another one and that TV didn’t work! Third time was the charm but the belt on the treadmill definitely was not adjusted properly and was a little loose under the feet. The gym does have a pool and basketball court which is nice but not sure if that justifies the 50$ a month plus the activation fee. The gym sure does look good from the outside.

Alicia Reber

Unscheduled adult classes in the rec pool and the basketball court always booked for adult leagues made it so my kids could never enjoy this gym. Very expensive place to just work out.

Dhinesh T

Clean locker rooms and good number of machines for cardio and weight section. Have cycling room, basketball court and swimming pool. I really don't like their one year contract policy.

Dr. Curtis Peterson

I have been an avid gym goer for over 18 years, and in my experience all gyms have a certain bias towards their young and health patrons, and is almost to be expected no matter where you go. BUT in end gym staff tend to be there to do their job and assist all their clients. That however has not been my experience with Capital City Health Club. Unless you are in your early 20s with a nice fit body don't expect the staff to help you at all. I have tried to get assistance five times from their staff now and have been ignored all five times even though they helped the young ladies before me and immediately started helping the young ladies behind me after I decided to give up and leave. Ever since these experiences I have noticed that staff really have a bias to helping only a certain clientele at the gym. It is a beautiful facility, with great equipment, but I would highly recommend asking the management if they have provided training with their staff about customer service before signing your contract.

I just finished my free week trial I like the selection of weights and machines but didn't care for how busy it gets

Capital City health club is bad, very bad. I first walked in and had a question about my membership, I stood there for 10 minutes waiting for somebody to come over... nobody ever did... so then i turned around to talk to the manager and he was just sitting there playing on the computer on his Facebook. after all that i went to work out and the machines were all dirty and filthy... DON'T EVER WORK OUT HERE!!!!!

Amy Roeber

Love this place!!! Especially for the pools, I swim everyday and there is always enough room. The front desk associates are amazing. I never come out or in without a greating! Keep up the great work capital city!!

Jennifer McKenna

A nice, reasonably sized local gym. There are several rooms for a wide variety of classes, and a good selection of cardio and weight machines. The locker rooms are good sized, and the staff was always friendly.

Lauren H.S.

Love this place! Friendly staff, a variety of machines and enough of them as well. The locker rooms are always clean and the sauna and steam room are a huge plus.

Shantel Hosking

Best club in Helena. I particularly enjoyed all of the Yoga and Piyo classes.

Nicole Nettleton

Misti Nettleton

Spartan Training, Group Classes, lap pool and therapy pool. Sauna, steam room, hot tub! Best deal in town! Oh yeah, weights and machines. 24 hour access as well.

Nicholas Salveson

Well, this place is not so well organized, nice equipment but the TV screen is not fitted properly due to aspect ratio, and not a single HD channel, they have a better gym downstairs and the TV's there have expanded cable and they have HD channels downstairs too, i have talked to the front desk and they said the same darn thing, stretch it. i wish this place was modern, and this place was built in 2011.

I have been going to this gym for 8 months, about 3 times a week. I am mostly in the free weight section. I was not sure what to expect, as this is my first gym experience, and I was very overweight when I started. I am happy to say that I look forward to and love using the facilities here. Not sure why there are so many complaints about the weight mess, I only see problems when the occasional person does not rerack, and I don't mind pitching in once in a while. But the best thing about this gym is that, even though I started out as "the fat old lady" in the weight section, I have NEVER had any problems from staff or fellow customers. I have been lifting for 3 years, so I am not just fooling around, but I was a bit hesitant about going in and doing my routine lifts. Now I am a more average person in that section, and I still have zero problems, just the occasional polite question about using a weight or if I have seem anyone using the rack next to me. The front desk people are always friendly too.

John Wilkins

The idea of a functional steam room is one base solely on fiction. Really makes you wonder where all that generated revenue is being allocated.
