I’ve gone to this gym for years, mainly because it was a 5 minute walk. Equipment is okay And gets the work done. The staff is what makes this a bad gym. There was one time where a mentally challenge person was trying to talk to a staff member and about 3 other staff members were laughing in front of his face. Very, young, and arrogant staff. Staff members eat their greasy food, and keep in mind this is a small gym, so the whole gym would smell like onions. I would sometimes have to wait 2 mins to order a shake because a staff is on their phone or talking to other gym members. And the bathrooms... I guess no one liked cleaning them.

Great gym. It smells clean when you walk in. Plus, it looks clean. Don't follow a schedule because you will wait for the machines for a long time. People like to be on the phone between sets. I am grateful that they have what I need. I went by a LA Fitness yesterday with a day pass. The gym smelled and they didn't even have wipes to wipe off the machines. Gross! Thanks for having wipes.

Moved from the Rochester gym to the Pontiac gym and I will be leaving to find a new gym. Equipment is constantly broken or missing pieces. Benches are all torn and dirty. Mirrors are broken. Locker rooms are kept at 80° and half the lockers are broken. I’m currently on the elliptical (3rd one, first 2 were not working properly) and the bike next to me has an “out of order” sign.

Hurt my shoulder, told employee I was in rehab to stop billing me and he never did. When I noticed 3 months additional bills after, I informed them and they still MADE me pay for 2 additional months, knowing I am still rehabing my shoulder. Lost my TRUST and LOYALTY and won't recommend ever again. Bad experience.

I decided to give a review because I am SURE this has probably happened before. I give this gym no stars but because I had to in order to submit I gave it one. I joined this location when it first opened. I can count the very few times i went. My child never felt comfortable with staff in the kids room. My membership was up 6 YEARS back. Yet they continued to withdraw from my account. Once that account was closed they were not able to withdraw anymore funds. I was put into collections after contacting several times trying to explain my membership was up and to make matters worst they wanted me to personally go to their location to pay them. Something that can easily be done over the phone. After explaining i don’t even live in the area anymore. Now i see why management is desperate for every penny they can get especially with all these horrible reviews.

I have delayed to post my review here because I thought it wasn't worth my time, but after the experience I had tonight, I had to voice my opinion. I never realized how horrible the customer service was here until my former trainer Henry left as I always dealt with him directly. The staff is extremely rude & useless. It took them a while to find a trainer after Henry left, & I was supposedly owed for all the sessions I was getting billed for. The trainer they found on a whim always pulled a no show & cancelled literally 5 minutes before my session as I was coming up around the block. After inquiring who would make up for the training sessions missed, they stated it had to be a certain trainer cuz he had already gotten paid for those sessions & they were disputing the matter in front of me. The bottom line is, I paid for those sessions, I don't care who trains me, just wanted my money worth. Needless to say I cancelled my membership as dealing with rude staff here is so incredibly frustrating, the turnover rate is crazy there. So I show up tonight with a co-worker to workout together on his guest pass & forgot my ID as I was switching to my gym bag. The new girl at the counter practically smirked at me & said in the most condescending way there's nothing she can do to help me. I offered to show debit card or picture of ID & told her I used to be a member, if she can just give me this one tulle pass & she proceeded to tell me she was doing me a favor in allowing me to stay cuz former members can't be guests, & that it will be $10. I nearly threw the iPad at her face. Thankfully the other girl remembered me & was really sweet & allowed me to workout, but seriously, the scenario reminded me why I left that joint. I'm coming from a rough day at work trying to workout & blow off steam & they just frustrate me even more

Gym is a fee harvester. the only reason i signed up was because they were having a 2 month free promotion so obviously anybody would sign up. After that first month,I was charged. When asked about it, they acted like they never had that promotion.

Got charged nearly a years worth for their dumb fine print policies, their staff is unhelpful and have poor customer service. As a member of retro fitness for nearly 7 years I’m personally avoiding this particular club. Though in a Convenient location the little things are unavoidable. Do yourself a favor and go to the Secaucus and or Wallington locations for better hours and cleaner facilities.

I am a long time retro member and have trained at just about every club in NYC/NJ The 1 star reflects the following. West New York is better off not having a Retro Fitness at all. 2 major discrepancies...This place has no regard for cleanliness and Crammed Equipment . Solution is sometimes less is more you can't move around facility even during non peak hours. These gyms need to police their floor..members are all on their phones taking up the equipment. I go to the gym to workout out as do many others leave the phones in the locker. Re rack weights and deep clean their facility I'm definitely not stepping foot back in this retro. I wish I could leave a more positive review but this is unacceptable by any standard

Great drop in for us from out of town, especially the child care! Only small quibbles were no round plates (for deadlifts), and no foam rollers out on the floor. We will come back!

Very small gym it doesn't look like at all in that picture everything in there is old or broken, then if you give feedback about something they just don't care "horrible management" and yes they still charge you an annual fee, worst gym ever don't joint to their membership go to Planet Fitness they don't have a contract and only for 10 bucks monthly.

I came in out of town looking to drop in and they treated me professionally like I had been a member for years. Great facilities. Never heard of a movie theater workout room but they have one. Try their triple berry smoothie.

This place is a dump. They have a Dixie cup filled with soap in the men's room and no hot water. More than 1/2 the equipment is in need of repair. Nothing gets kept up with. Thank God Fort Lee opened.

Iba hacer una clase de zumba y me sacaron de la clase que por que tenía que tener acceso a VIP. no me permitieron terminar la clase y nunca me informaron de esto. Nice place friendly people just wish some of the patrons knew how to put the weights back in their proper spot especially the dumbbells, had to switch it up the out-of-order sign is been here since I signed up months ago good luck finding any of the hooks that go on any of the machines the ones that aren't broken and they won't fix. And just a friendly suggestion when you have a gym in that area which I don't mind you have to zip tie the hooks to the machines so they don't get stolen .

The staff is friendly At night is pretty bad. People speak super loud, scream, don't place equipment back and if they do just in the wrong place. Very rude. Tried going in the morning, but that time isn't always the most convenient due to my job schedule. I expect a level of noise. It's a gym after all not a library, but still it's just the I-don't-care attitude of doing whatever people want and that's not how's it is meant to be. The staff, although friendly, won't be checking out on those who break the rules. The rules are posted on the walls, but obviously lots of these people won't care.

Denied entry even after showing proof of payment. In addition, the billing dispute was made public in front of customers. Showing that a payment was made via the CITI Bank mobile app did not assist, and was still denied entry. Member for 3-4 years, and will possibly look elsewhere for a new membership to a new facility.

Decent considering the price. Pros: Good selection of free weights, racks, and machines. Cheap @ $20/mo. 3 min from my house. Weekends aren't too crowded especially late afternoon. Cons: Way too crowded during the week after 5PM. Some machines are damaged and have been for a few months. Staff locks the door a half hour before close, which is pretty early on the weekends, so get there by 5 at the latest. They don't care about customers, they care about bouncing ASAP after close. Can't really blame them. Not sure about their smoothies, trainers, or classes. Give it a shot if you can't fit a weight rack in your apt and aren't close to planet fitness.

If you didn't sign up with them don't expect to be treated well. Try Hackensack or Tenafly, the staff is nicer and the gym is 10x bigger. This gym is a joke, no one reracks weights, equipment is always dirty and the child care room is the size of a closet.

If you've been to other retro fitness gyms don't go to this one. Most of the good reviews are either from people who go when the doors open in the morning or they are from when the gym first opened years ago. The gym is small and cramped. The staff there, although cordial, they are not professional. I don't need to stand at the counter waiting for you to finish a conversation about a party last week with your friend before I'm even acknowledged.

It has everything you need for a good workout but it is a very small space and aside from benches(3), there is only 1 of everything. Off peak hours is great but if you get over 10-15 ppl in there at once, have to be flexible with your workout

Horrible service!!! The staff are unprofessional and rude! The workers literally eat their greasy fast food in the gym so everybody can smell their cheeseburger and French fries smh it’s disgusting ! You would think with all the money you spend there they can at least afford to have a room where the staff can eat. The owners need to be more hands on and stop hiring anybody they can find that is bi-lingual.

I moved out of state in November and have been trying to cancel my membership since. Typically call 2-3 times a month and leave messages with the “manager” and never have gotten a call back- have sent an email reply to every email they have sent asking for instructions on how to cancel membership and have never gotten anything in response. Did not want to leave a bad review because I did like working out there when I lived in Pontiac but it seems like they only respond to google reviews. Currently have been charged for 5 months plus their annual fee since moving. ($175) Update: I have sent 4 emails since my original post and have called twice and still no response.
